Good campaign, with metagame and 4-player online co-op giving it high longevity and replayability. Amazing mulitplayer with extras like the Forge map editor. Insane online stat-tracking. My only concern is the small number of multiplayer maps which will be remedied soon with the first of what will certainly be many map pack releases.

A run of the mill shooter inferior to just about any full priced FPS that has come out on the PC over the last 3 years. An extremely average game that while not horrible to play offers nothing of interest to anyone but FPS fans with a spare afternoon. The singleplayer is very short (5-6 hours) and the multiplayer lacks cohesion and excitement.

The online multi-player is highly addictive and is very fun, though the 4-player online co-op doesn't work as well as you may want it to. Forge is a neat idea, but won't hold your interest for very long, but the saved films feature is very good. But, the campaign mode is very disappointing, and leaves you hanging at the end.

I saved up for months to buy XBOX 360 for one reason--Halo 3, and boy am I disappointed. The game is just extremely boring. It's seems it was just thrown together to make money. There was really no new characters or weapons, just modified old stuff. If you love Halo like me, then of course you have to beat it, but don't expect much. P.S. What happened to the Halo 1 pistol?? Best part!!

Really fun, I rarely enjoy console games. The multiplayer is about as much fun as I'm going to have with a gamepad/controller. Still, in terms of single player gameplay, it really isn't a glorious achievement in the FPS world. Solid, shiny, pretty, fun, but not really deserving of the massive hype machine that seems to have driven the series since the first title started to take off.

Well the graphics were horrid compared to lets say half-life 2 which was released 3 or so years ago, the single player was so bad that I don't even know why they put it in the game, and the multiplayer was average at best, still not as good as battlefield 2142 or any of the unreal tournaments.

The last 2 levels were a joke and left a bad taste in my mouth. And what's with all of you fanboys creaming y'alls pants over the Legendary ending? Not surprised to see all the hate by users. Dissing backtracking? Try Metroid Prime 3! Mad at the short campaign mode? Multiplayer is the main draw here! This is a decent single-player console FPS and one of the best multiplayer experiences in gaming. The feature set in Halo 3 is incredible, the graphics are sublime, and the music is epic.

I've played all 3 and this last one is the biggest letdown. Backtracking through levels, a couple of new guns and items, the last level which has no creativity. All this money spent on this and this is what we get as gamers. The Halo developers should have studied the Half-Life 2 franchise to see how a game is suppose to be.

Ask any Halo 2 and 3 player - sure, you got angry at 2 sometimes, but deep down knew you were just mad because you were losing. Not so with #3. A lot of what people complain about it is (surprisingly or not) legitimately the game's fault. Halo 3 is a sequel. If you were expecting a completely new game then you are lacking in intelligence. Halo 3 does exactly what you expect from a sequel, it improves upon the formula and adds new stuff. What makes Halo 3 so good is it's action. No other shooting game does it better in my opinion and I've been playing them for years. Bioshock, The Orange Box and COD4 are all Halo 3 is a sequel. Bioshock, The Orange Box and COD4 are all excellent games for different reasons but Halo 3 just nails the formula of guns, grenades and melee. The gameplay is action packed and the online play will get your adrenaline pumping like you wouldn't believe. There's nothing like scoring a triple kill and then getting all tense and excited as you desperately try to find that overkill in time, or making a comeback from 20 points behind to take the game by one point. The multiplayer is absolutely phenomenal, it is super exciting and at times even hilarious. However, It can be very frustrating and, at times, very unforgiving but that is no fault of the game, though it is easier to blame it. The campaign is Halo 3's weakest link, it is great and is fantastic in 4 player online co op (if you've got a good internet connection) but it is graphically disappointing. The cutscenes are quite ugly and the second to last level is just awful. The game keeps a solid framerate throughout though, so it is to be commended for that. The story is terrific and the game does a good job of finishing the trilogy, whilst leaving the door open for possible expansion. Also, the music and sound effects are outstanding, the attention to detail is astonishing. The two newest additions are the Forge and Theatre modes and I could go on for hours about how ridiculously awesome they are, they do an absolutely fantastic job of adding more value to this incredible package and make for a refreshing break from all the action. All in all, if you are looking for a social gaming experience, you cannot go wrong with Halo 3 as everything about it has more than one person in mind, if you are looking for an incredible, competetitive online mode then no other game does it better, but if you are looking for a deep and involving single player experience then you would be better off with something like BioShock. Hype should have nothing to do with the way you rate the game, but for some odd reason, how a game was hyped is now as important as how a game plays or what it looks like. I'm giving Halo 3 a 9, not because I'm an emo child who has beef with everything that's popular or because I think "Marketing is duh devil." It's a jampacked package and each piece is relevant, polished, and fun. It's Halo 3, the sequel to Halo 2. What the hell were you expecting? Way way way overhyped. Single player feels like a kids game. The multiplayer is like a bad version of unreal tournament 2004. The public reviewers must have been paid off on this one. It's really nothing special and many 360 games have or will eclipse it.

Halo 3 was what I expected, nothing more. That being said, It is still one of the best games for the Xbox 360. However it seems like Bungie could have done something more...

Nothing like a little hype to bring out the haters. Reading some these comments you'd think this game is the worst game in the world. It's not people, it isn't disappointing either- Bungie took what was great about their previous installments and took it to another level. Its great. After playing this thing, I poked at the box to see if Bungie didn't paste a #3 over the 2 in Halo 2. Apart from the mediocre 5 hour campaign and Forge, this thing is Halo 2 with a coat of new paint. Don't try to sell me a 1980 Porche with a fresh coat of paint and tell me it is a brand new 2008 model. Bungie dissapointed me with this poor effort.

Multilayer leaves a lot to be desired. Not many maps, gets very repetitive. For some reason the buttons have changed around from Halo 2. No real new features to speak of. Lets hope Bungie puts more time into the Halo 4 multilayer. The story mode however is very good.

However, one decided that an enemy breathing more than twice a minute was hostile and opened fire. I was killed brutally by the hyper-intelligent AI. The rather brief campaign and hard-to-follow story are the only flaws on this gaming gem. Graphics are beautiful, vehicles and weapons are fun to use, environments are expansive and believable, and so many innovative features (saved films, meta-game, forge) add incredible replayability.

And as always, Halo is the king of online multiplayer. With so many unique modes and excellent map

Over-hyped and overrated generic FPS. Almost as bad as HAZE and LAIR. Story mode is short and repetitive, however, this appears to be a trademark of Bungie and the Halo series. Awful shooting mechanic and boring selection of weapons. MP is laggy and unintuitive. Don't buy into the hype. This. game. sucks.

Halo 3 is a good and very popular game, in fact I think it actually suffers from the fact that its popular. Internet trolls who must masturbate to the opening credits to CoD4 or wipe their pimply fuggly faces of tears while playing Bioshock hate Halo because its an every-mans game for adults. The replay value is great, the story is interesting and the gameplay is simple. By no means is it gods gift to man, but neither is CoD4. The only reason I can imagine why Halo gets so much crap is because Gamers are frightened that people who enjoy the company of women, drink occasionally and don't live in their parents basement can pick up and enjoy this game. Its a socially acceptable game where even 'frat dudes' can play it with out being considered nerdy. It is this social acceptance, which it seems many gamers never attain in their lives, that I can only attribute to its unpopularity with an internet community obsessed with anything non-halo as being SO much better then Halo, even though it still ranks up there with games like CoD4 in online play and popularity.
Halo isn't a perfect game and the whole game plays like the first Halo game, but that's the point. In a world where it seems there needs to be something jaw dropping and eye catching like 'perks', 'plasmids' or 'frame rate' Halo remembers what old fashioned video game fun is. Its not realistic, but when you win a duel with a well placed grenade on Live or beat a 10 foot ape alien to death with a pistol you feel good. that's a feeling that is hard to get with CoD4's easy camp levels, broken tru skill system and defective 'perks' (which are complained about by even the most hardened Call of Duty 4 fan. Note that I said Call of Duty 4, not Call of Duty, there is a significant difference between the two.) Now Halo does have issues but where as logically I would give CoD4 an 8 or 8.5 as a result of those issues Halo gets a 9 because its problems aren't nearly as game breaking. Halo's issues, with nearly worthless equipment and at times nerfed weapons and maps, are problems but you can still play the game without those things affecting your experience at all. You can get around those problems and still have a fun time unlike Call of Duty 4 where you can only tolerate its problems just so long before you want to throw the controller across the room.
In short Halo brings the fun, and lets you have all kinds of it, something most other games are hard pressed to do.

Generic is the best word to describe this series. Halo 1 took all the best parts from other games, and put it all into one game. Shoot all the bad guys, run over here, shoot all these guys, ok now run over here, kill these guys. It was FUN, and the story was actually engaging, involving twists, dramatic moments and a common hated enemy that you actually enjoyed killing. But then the sequels came, and the series started to lag. Its like Bungie didnt even try to top themselves. the sequels do nothing new or exciting, and do nothing to enhance the series. Overrated is also another word to describe Halo 3. The critics absolutely praise this game like theyve never seen it done before. I played this game 10 years ago when it was called Doom, Half-Life, Tribes, Medal of Honor, Wolfenstein, and every other fps created before this game. This game is overrated, overyhyped, and has been done many times before, and better. Expand

Actually I would give it a 9.8(doesnt give me the choice, but anyway). Halo 3 is endless hours of entertainment. With may modes such as forge, x-box live and custom game ssuch as forge. This game in my opinion be Game of the Year. My only negative is the story, just like Halo 2. A slight cliffhanger. Otherwise it is well one of my favorite games of all time.

  1. It's the addition of the Forge level editor and the saved films that give the game an even longer set of legs, legs that will probably keep you running at full speed until Bungie figures out where, exactly, to go from here.
  2. Halo 3 is the best Xbox 360 game to date. The single-player campaign and storyline are both very strong, but it's Forge and the Saved Films features that will likely go down in history as Bungie's crowning achievements. They've basically taken everything great about the series and improved upon it in every way, then added some amazing new features that we'll be using for years to come.

It's solid gameplay, immense replayability, online functionality and incredible production values will ensure its place in video game history, and it is, without a doubt, a satisfying and fulfilling close to the beloved trilogy[?].
