This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A last whimper from the once great studio known as Neversoft. It is obvious they knew they were fired when they started this project, but some contract obligation required them to put out this half hearted addition. The power ups that affect gameplay in a music game is a bad idea. It reeks of desperation and lack of ideas. These games should be about the music and not about some bad take off of Brutal Legend. They also did a terrible job of charting for everything except the guitar. I see no reason to play anything besides guitar even when playing with 4 people. Vocals are still horrendously bad and the song studio has not improved. I give it a 1 because the game should not have come out. Expand

The worst music game ever made. So cheesy it made me want to stab out my eyes and ears. The song selection starts of fairly relevant but the story progression and game modes make no sense. Quite possibly one of the most bland games I have ever played. The new features are nothing but gimmicks to inflate scores and give the illusion of meaningful progress. The story mode is a travesty of inane tropes and the setlist is as uneven as they come. For every '2112' by Rush, there is a 'Bodies' by Drowning Pool. The keyboard and pro modes look like they will breathe new life into a genre that has, quite frankly, become stale. Expand

The guitar hero series has been very popular for many years. out of all of them this is the worst. it almost seems like neversoft is desperate to make more guitar hero games. its basically a guitar hero game with abad gameplay and bad characters. Guitar hero has run dry. Move on to Rock Band.

Sadly, the addition of a so-called "quest mode" does nothing to hide the same old flaws that have been present for the last several iterations of the Guitar Hero franchise. Activision continues to simply milk the brand name for all its worth, and does nothing to innovate, improve or expand the game into something worthwhile. Activision continues to simply milk the brand name for all its worth, and does nothing to innovate, improve or expand the game into something worthwhile. If this has been their first release...perhaps the game would warrant a 5 or a 6, but they've been in the business of making rhythm games for too long now, and should know better. Their stunning lack of quality and polish, the narrowly-focused playlist, the overcharted tracks and general disregard for the music itself...not to mention the focus on nothing but getting a high score... This new Guitar Hero is just a sad copy of the last few that came before it. If you honestly enjoy music (and not just high scores), then save your money and pick up something like Rock Band 3. You'll be much happier for it in the long run Expand

One for the rhythm-action hardcore crowd and those players who don't mind playing keyboard parts on guitar, then. [Issue#102, p.122]

Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock is a much better game than we had expected, and the devs have actually managed to use the overall theme for something more than a new coat of paint. The quest mode is one of the most fun additions to the series in ages, even if it's just a re-ordering of elements we've seen before. There's enough standout tracks and new ideas for Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock to be worthwhile, even if you skipped the previous game because the series was growing stale.

Great story driven music game at first glance reveals the fact that the new Guitar Hero is actually boring and a so-many-times-seen piece with an odd music list and unbalanced playability. [Issue#197]
