Official Xbox MagazineIt starts to get a bit mind-numbing by around level 20 if you play solo, but when you bring some friends along for the adventure, your evening will quickly disappear in a puff of fun. [Jun 2006, p.61]
-
Dropping five bucks on this arcade classic, which now has online support, is a pretty safe bet.
-
A long game in that there are plenty of dungeons to fight through and the fact [is] that it’s not easy if you don’t continually add credits.
-
If multiplayer coin-op games that can be played over Xbox Live sounds appealing, then Gauntlet is surely worth the few bucks it costs to download it. I’m warning you know though: Gauntlet isn’t really about skill - it’s more about having enough credits to finish the entire game.
-
Whether you’re a young RPG lover who wants to see where it all began, or an elder who wants to relive their glory days, you need to immediately dish out five bones and give Gauntlet a whirl.
-
Gauntlet is a blast with friends Xbox Live, just convince at least one friend to get this and you'll have a good laugh.
-
Right from the start you're surrounded by creatures that suck away your life. The only way to get ahead is to learn a novel's worth of tricks and memorize the mazy layouts - something only the old-schoolers may have the patience for.
-
Four-player online support makes the Xbox Live Arcade version of this fantasy arcade classic a worthwhile, inexpensive indulgence for nostalgic fans of the good old days of gaming.
-
Visually and aurally the game is pretty much the same as before. Of course, running the game on an HD set will make it sharper, but this game still looks and sounds much like it did in 1985.
-
Hardcore Gauntlet players will probably buy yet another copy of this game if for no other reason than the ability to play multiplayer over Xbox Live, which is admittedly a good reason to play what is otherwise a very dated and boring game that will try your patience rather than test your RPG skills.
-
X-ONE Magazine UKIt's repetitive. [Issue#5, p.120]
-
360 Gamer Magazine UKOf all the Midway arcade games, this is probably the weakest. [Issue #16, p.77]
-
The game is priced right at 400 points (or $5) but then again, you can find "Midway Arcade Classic" titles in bargain bins for $10, and they include more.
-
The worst part is, you can basically hit a button to get more and more health, as opposed to adding quarters in the arcades back in the day.
