Far Cry 3 is a fantastic game with a brilliant villain, who is just badass. It´s a MUST have for everyone, the story has a perfect atmosphere, coop mode is much fun, but i admit that multiplayer could be better !

Far Cry 3 is a unique experience that you won't forget in a hurry. It is an open world first-person shooter, and it's got so much content that you'll want to play for hours and hours at a time to discover all of it.

The story is incredibly interesting, as you play as an American tourist who travels to Rook Island, and after escaping a pirate camp you must save your friends, avenge your brother, and escape the island. Half the game you spend fighting Vaas, and his pirate gang. The remainder you spend fighting the less interesting Hoyt, and his soldiers. The game gets a little bit muddled in the middle as the game becomes less about stealth and more about action, but after a few missions you get used to it, and it becomes an over-the-top action-packed shooter. The missions? Meh. They are incredibly linear and can get dull, but if you obey the rules like a good little boy then you will enjoy yourself thoroughly.

If you grow bored of the missions, you can explore the huge open world. A unique selling point which sold the game to me was the outposts, which are dotted around the map, and are filled with 5-10 varying enemies. There's the standard mercenaries, the Molotov-throwing and sometimes irritating chargers, the snipers, and the big lads who are covered in thick armour. Some outposts also have dogs, and by the end of the game, let's just say you might become more of a cat person. You can take them over however you want; with a sniper, the awesome bow, with your machete, or with an LMG. You can scout the base by tagging enemies which allows you to see them through walls, even mountains, and you can also disable the alarms to make your life easier. When you do take one over you unlock a fast travel location, and get rid of enemies in the immediate area of that base.

There's also hunting, which allows you to kill pigs, boars, leopards and tigers, which allow you to create bigger weapon holsters, syringe kits, wallets etc. It's incredibly satisfying, and the rewards mean it's worth doing again and again. On top of all this, the game looks incredible, even on the 360. Everything from the lighting and water, to the vegetation and weapons. The graphics and aesthetics are top notch. The game options are also more than enough, with the ability to turn off parts of the HUD, and annoying notifications. There are some problems, however. The game crashed just once, and you take fall damage from a one inch drop, but not from sliding down a 30 metre cliff?

On the whole the game is a must own. It's different from every other fps out there, and it's totally worth the money.

The start of the game is intense, When you are escaping you felt like you were in that moment and it was a really good opening, But after that opening it feels really boring, The second mission till the fourth felt so lacking and I had a friend who gave up at this point as theses missions don't show how good this game gets, They felt like boring forced and not exciting and I think this is farcry 3's only let down

I loved this game and would have well over 30 days played on it, But I wouldn't have so many I didn't get through those boring early missions, This is why I give it a 9/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Even up to date, this is one of the best games on Xbox 360 which I've played. The framerate is sometimes terrible, and that's why I only gave it a 9/10. The sound of the game seems sometimes not the best, as if it were rendered at a low quality, no clue if that's not just on console but it looses points for that too. Finally, the game at times would show bugs in the map rendering, sometimes I would try to jump on a ledge and make character would get pushed off. This is probably a problem with the movement system in the game, so not just this version. Other than these two facts, the story is very good, the ending satisfying yet over hyped... I feel like if they explained how Jason came back to the island/didn't die would've helped me convince myself to continue playing the game. The characters sell the game very well. co-op mode is very well structured and still fun up until now. Multiplayer is great yet getting smaller every day. Expand

Far Cry 3 is a prime example of how to do an open world shooter correctly. Far Cry 3 is a prime example of how to do an open world shooter correctly. While not without its own flaws, this game has stood the test of time and I write this review at the end of 2017 because there honestly has not been an open world shooter since this game that improved the formula. Sadly?

So as I wait for Far Cry 5 to release (after a delay of a month was just announced), I feel like a little retro review is in order. Quick points to get out of the way, I have not played Far Cry, Far Cry 2, or Far Cry Primal, I have only played 3 & 4 because of interest in the setting and locale of the 2 games.

There are two main things I have to get out of the way for this review that I cannot quickly put into a pro and con list because they stand out way too much.

One, this game has one of the best villains I have ever seen in a video game, movie, etc. Vaas was exceptionally well done and the voice actor did an excellent job in making his personality believable and he truly was an amazing antagonist to fight with through the story. Like many other people, I believe his role in the game was too minimalistic and he definitely should have been utilized more as the other villain was not very memorable.

Two, quick time events are an absolutely bull**** way to lazily transition a boss fight that the game has been building up to with its story. One of the main reasons I cannot give this game a 10. Dying Light did this too and it just irritates me so much. I don't want a damn cutscene finale developers!!!

    Anyways, here is the list:

    Pros:

    - Excellent & gorgeous setting/location
    - One of the best villains ever (Vaas)
    - Vast array of wildlife
    - Large open world/sandbox
    - Lots of side quests
    - Long list of available weapons
    - Good RPG elements in class building (Herron, Shark, Spider)
    - Allows you to play your own way (stealth or guns blazing)
    - Some interesting characters
    - Simple crafting system
    - Great skill trees
    - Fun over the top action
    - Signature weapons are a blast to use and unlock
    - Fast travel
    - Short load times

    Cons:

    - Fu**ing QTEs (Should have stopped this back then)
    - Awkward ending?
    - Jason, as a main character, goes from a pu**y to a jackass instantaneously?
    - Fall damage
    - First person driving
    - Enemy AI can sometimes be really dumb, or notice you in the bushes from 2 miles off

Despite some flaws, this game is the last open world shooter I thoroughly enjoyed because it combined all the elements that make video games great. It had over the top action, it took some basic rpg elements, it had an amazing adversary in the form of Vaas, it gave you the freedom to play how you wanted, a vast number of side quests and missions to complete so that you could build up your character and spend hours sinking your teeth into the environment and explore it at your own pace, some cut scenes that weren't overly intrusive, and just gave you a giant sandbox to screw around in.

Overall, this game gave you everything you wanted in an open world shooter, and easily stands the test of time. If this game used Vaas more than they did, and did not use QTEs in boss battles, I would have easily given this game a score of 90+. As it stands, this game, for me, is an 87.

This is truly the last open world shooter that I would give a score above 75 and it is actually a real shame to think that. Too many games nowadays focus on over the top cinematics and graphics in the form of intrusive cut scenes that strip away control from the player and turn the game into a movie, when it should be interactive all the way through.

Before this turns into a rant on modern games, I'll just say that I miss games like these and I hope Far Cry 5 can replicate some of the memories that this game was able to give me. Cheers!

"Far Cry 3" is the highlight of the series. While the previous titles were highly-acclaimed, FC 3 marked the moment when the franchise found its footing. Every "Far Cry" released since has followed its formula. This is one of Ubi Soft's best games. It's like "Skyrim" with guns. I would rate it with a 9 out of 10.

I liked how you had to work to open up the map and aim to make targets show up. I felt cheated every time I died due to the game breaking it's own rules. The enemies are a little funny at first, but they only said a few lines, so I got pretty tired of them fast. I spent over 50 hours in the game because I went after absolutely everything, and I can say that there is no reward in getting every piece of loot, so resist being a completionist. The driving should really have been third-person because walking everywhere got very tedious. My car would either explode or get stuck on a twig within 20 seconds of getting in it. The choices of the open world made the game open-ended for different styles of play. For example, I took an outpost with only two bears when I could have used bullets or bombs or arrows. Overall, this title is a good open world game with so much to do and good memories to have, but little short on the story mode and gets slightly repetitive. Expand

Alot of the time the game struggled to display things far in the distance and they occassionally just appear from nowhere. You would spot a huge mountain in the distance but the game does not think so. to be fair I looked past this, it did not take away from the game but was a slight niggle. I was a bit unsure of the human enemy AI. It was not bad but it was not great either but when you think of the size of the game world plus the fact that animals in the game are pretty impressively written and add some real tension again this can partially be looked past. I found the story really really engaging until one moment happened. From here the story is not bad but noticably takes a dip (You will know the moment when you play).
I would say this was in my top 10 games of 2012 and would recommend anyone to play it. you can waste hours just hunting animals!. Don't be put off by anything bad written about it as the game is EPIC. Its just not perfect but when you play it you will see past the same niggles I did.

Truth be told the actual story missions, while usually passable, are far from the most interesting aspect of the game. All too often they fall back on video game clichés with the use of QTE’s and escort missions being particularly irritating. What truly makes Far Cry 3 the game it is, is the fantastic open world that allows for all manner of unique, and totally unscripted, events. Talk to anyone that has played the game and they will tell you of events that only they will have experienced. Fortunately the actual gameplay mechanics are also very good with weapons having a real sense of weight to them as well as the welcome freedom to choose from going in all guns blazing to taking a more stealthy approach thanks to the use of 'Takedown' moves that can be unlocked.

All in all this one comes highly recommended.

The story in Far Cry 3 is epic and one of its bright spots. Most shooters have a lame to semi lame story that feel like they are there just to connect one level to another, but with FC3 the story drives the action forward. I don't want to give anything away, but at the end of the game you have a hard choice to make, and the reason the choice is hard is because you have become attached to the characters and the different sides... this is testament to the great voice acting and spot on animations. I actually cared what happened. Graphically the game is beautiful and adds to the immersion. The combat is a lot of fun... personally I like the sniping and stealth aspect which works very well. I was worried about the predators like the leopards. I wondered if they would pounce out of every other bush. I am happy to report that run-ins happen, but the encounters are random and do not happen all that often. The autonomous A.I. makes for some interesting and random action. For example, one fight I was trying to move into position to knife kill a target when some friendlies in a boat caught the attention of my prey, thus giving me the distraction to go in for the kill. My main gripe with FC3 is in the middle of the game, before you are allowed to go to the second island, you have to do a series of main missions that are a grind at best and really annoying at worst. One mission has you doing a kill free corridor stealth run, another starts you out with only a knife and a set area that you are confined to, while another has you defending a position while a friendly AI does a repair... and failing the mission five times because he keeps getting shot from multiple angles. These quests were stripped of the very thing that makes the Far Cry series so great... choice. Also some of the real time events were just frustrating... and if you do not hit the right button at the right time you have to start over and do it again. But despite some major mid game annoyances and a couple of the more challenging real time events, the rest of the game is amazing... albeit a bit busy. I did not do the hunting, racing, collecting items (unless I ran across them) I stayed to the main and side stories and the outposts, assassinations and towers. Expand

The graphics on this game are beautiful some of the best I've seen on console, heck they might even rival those seen in GTA 4 and Crysis 2. The animals, trees and setting things on fire is pretty decent. Gameplay wise it's your standard first person shooter/RPG but it's actually fun (Unlike some other shooters .... yes you know who you are!). I really love setting things on fire, but the recent update has broken the fire spread .... seriously I used to be able to cause massive forest fires and now I can only set a small patch of grass on fire.

Audio wise ..... main characters are fine but enemies sound very poor, like they were recorded back in the early 90's.

Also after you complete the game, there is no New Game+ mode which also hampered the score a little bit. If/when they solve some of the issues then this game would get a 10 from me. Far Cry 3 is the only game where you can do stupid **** and get away with it. PARENTS! Do not let your kids play this game there are a few ........ adult (and very nice) scenes in the game.

It really is like Skyrim with guns. While the gunplay isn't as solid as some of the more popular FPSs of today, everything else is. While the gunplay isn't as solid as some of the more popular FPSs of today, everything else is. It has all the expected aspects of an open world game, but the modern tropical setting gives it a new punch. I haven't played any of the previous Far Cry games, but Red Dead Redemption with assault weapons sounds just as promising as Far Cry 3 delivers. Graphical prowess is prevalent throughout the game, with every area of the map available without a loading screen, and a new fantastic checkpoint system that merely marks an opaque square on the map that can be seen from any angle and through any mountain. Its remarkably simple, but somehow, and unfortunately, this mechanic is relatively unused. The co-op of Far Cry 3, however, is remarkably unpolished. Much unlike the single player, it is glitch-ridden, and death via moving vehicles or falling through the ground is lasting until a partner reaches a far away checkpoint. The objectives are unforgivingly repetitive, and the difficulty is un-scaling, independent on the number of players. This makes completing any of the 3 hours missions with 2 players on any difficulty above easy a tedious task. The multiplayer is also extremely generic, and isn't even worth touching. Finally, I touch on the single player. The story starts off with you, and your douchebaggy pals, living on the wild side, skydiving and island exploring. Your group is kidnapped, and after you escape, you must rescue your friends. Despite this underwhelming start, Far Cry 3 winds an engaging story told in fantastic ways. Symbolic psychedelic cutscenes are scattered across the game, where you actually take control and traverse these trippy environments to really story twists and hint at future events. This mechanic works really well, and feels unique and original. The loot system, once understood, is complex, and balanced. Animal skins are used to craft equipment and healing syringes, and other equipment is sold for ammo. As areas are unlocked, guns become available for free, and you become more and more powerful. Completing objectives nets you "skill points" that you can use to attain new "skills", like faster reloading and increased health. One of the best skill mechanics allows you to perform certain actions while still sprinting, thus giving you the power to avoid what has been a video game staple. Far Cry 3 could have been a generic open-world FPS, but small details and advanced story telling bring it to a new level. It proves another step in pushing out the stereotypicals (Homefront, ..yeah, mostly Homefront) that are continuously produced and sold in the FPS market. Expand

Far Cry 3 is a great game, but its flaws keep it from being an amazing game. The story definitely could be better but the gameplay is superb. The game will captivate you for around 5 or 6 hours in but after that, things fall apart in a not so great finale.

There are some parts of the game that are not so good the story, whilst ambitious, falls short of it's own ambitions and feels a little forced, the main character's personal journey does not really feel plausible, the guns all feel very similar and lack realism, there is not real feeling of survivalism as money is plentiful and you can unlock all the weapons without having to pay for them. Having said all that, Far Cry 3 is a lot of fun, has a long campaign by the standards of other FPS' and at least tries to have somewhere deep storyline. Well worth a look! Expand

The money system and store system is easily the weakest part of the game. Every store has the same thing, so it's really just a mobile backpack. Also, exploring is nice, but there isn't enough incentive for me to lose myself on the island like you can in Skyrim. There aren't any great accessories that improve your character in any RPG way. The skill system is nice, but it's mostly an afterthought (especially since you can unlock all the skills). The reward of exp and money from getting relics, letters etc. aren't enough of an incentive to explore. However, all that said I do HIGHLY recommend this game. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Before I start this out, I have to say: Vaas is a mother******* badass! He is the most menacing and psychopathic villain I've ever come across, he's deranged and creepy, yet still unpredictable because of his calm attitude. But then.... BAM! He backlashes while Jason Brody is soiling himself. He is so good and so developed that you'll wish he was in more of the game. It was a total disappointment when I had to kill him half-way through the game and we encounter the other villain: Hoyt, who I totally forgot about and is not as memorable as Vaas. There are also genuine moments in this game where I was like "OMG! I did not expect that to happen!" It's also interesting with all the subtle details of the story: The character's bickering over how they're going to get off the island and then Jason's build-up as a character when he gradually starts to like killing people. He even begins to enjoy this so much that instead of leaving with the others, he chooses to stay on the island just to kill Hoyt. A testament to how motivated he has become. Despite all this I didn't know what to make of the ending option where you kill your friends and have sex with Citra. What's the point of that? You already had sex with her earlier in the game anyway. I'd rather he escaped off the island with his friends. Both options leave hardly anything of an impact on me.

The gameplay is diversified, allowing you to select your own options of whether you want to go in stealthily or guns-blazing. This adds variety to the game and allows you to play how you want to play. Vehicles have this free-flowing feel to them, while also reacting to uneven terrain which gives them a realistic feel. The whole island is vibrant and enriched with detail, it is interesting to explore, especially with the gliders and air-wings at your disposal. Wildlife further solidifies it as a living, breathing island and they're not too many of them so they never become an annoyance. Skinning animals to sell in shops in exchange for resources like superior guns and equipment is well worth doing, especially when going on a rampage. You earn experience points by doing side-missions, getting collectables, outposts, main missions etc. These help upgrade your skills and there are some pretty unique things to unlock here. The side missions are fun aswell, some keeping with the theme of massacring everybody that's near you, traversing the island in an efficient time by vehicle, stealth takedowns, helping random strangers out. The last is clearly the worst as I had no reason to care about the inexplicable dilemmas they got themselves into, whereas the rest focused on what the game was about and I loved it for that. The mini-games are a fun diversion but they could of implemented them better. Poker was just mediocre. See "Red Dead Redemption" to know how to make a real poker mini-game.

The co-op is nothing special as it just feels like a severely watered-down version of singleplayer. Needless to say, I didn't care for it much. The multiplayer is nothing note-worthy either, it's essentially a COD clone but atleast it's functional which is more than I can say for a lot of other games. The Collectables have detail surrounding them, from what the guy who wrote it was doing in a past life or what it is about. It adds more depth to them but they're still not all that interesting and a chore to collect, I may add. Last final gripe I have is with the over-usage of quick-time events for boss battles. It's extremely lazy, they already a cool concept with the all drugs thing but it wasn't really expanded that much and they missed a massive opportunity for some incredibly creative battles. Overall, Far Cry 3 despite its flaws is an unforgettable experience and should not be overlooked.

Really fun game play, OK story. The game world is beautiful and assassination are a new feature in a tired fps genre. MP however is very underwhelming, with a cool to use map editior, the MP could have been great. Unfortunately the lack of vehicles or CTF make Far cry 3 MP a cod clone. Get it for the Sp, the MP is useless.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. this game was amazing. the graphics, world, exploration, gameplay, and variety were all superb. however, the story had many problems. the game was supposed to be a satire, about an american rich, white teen who dreams of killing. so he conjures up this fantasy about some island whose natives are being attacked by evil pirates and they desperately need his help to defend themselves. so he dreams of rescuing everybody, killing vaas and hoyt, and becoming king of the warriors. at the end, when citra kills you, she is basically like "take that, you misogynist, racist dude!" that's the deal with the alice in wonderland quotes, you being called snow white by the locals, and the story so heavily revolving around dreams. Unlike Grand Theft Auto, the campaign in Far Cry 3 keeps on bringing me back for more, and not teasing me with pointless missions and objectives that make no changes to the game whatsoever. This game is also massive, and has lasted me almost an entire year without fail. The map just gets bigger and bigger, and the story never seems to end; when you defeat what you thought was the final boss, an entirely new island is unveiled, it really is enormous. The only problems I had with Far Cry 3 were the graphics that failed to impress, and the score that did get slightly repetitive, but apart from that the game was perfect. Expand

This is the only first person shooter open world RPG I know of and its very good. Gameplay is a little repetitive and they could use some more weapons and equipment to use and craft, but overall I enjoyed playing this game though and through. Towards the end the side quests and collectibles become pretty useless but the main story is long and there's lots of things to do in the open world outside of the main storyline.

The other thing that could be improved are the controls. Aiming is a little difficult and the overall FPS shooter experience is lacking making large firefights frustrating, but easy healing capabilities make up for this.

Stealth could be improved as well, especially in the main missions where you are often forced into firefights. They do a good job giving you bonuses for taking the time to be stealthy, making stealth "worth it" for reasons other than your own enjoyment.
Far Cry 4 is coming out for next gen, I'm expecting they will be able to address the few things that were wrong with FC3 and it should be one of the best next gen games.

Overall, a great game in my top 10.

Far Cry 3 is a must have for anyone who likes FPS games. If you like non skippable cutscenes you'll like it even more. Personally I could do without them, especially after knowing the storyline. This is a game you'll want to play again and again. To hear the story again and again gets repetitive and unnecessary. If it wasn't for the cutscenes I'd give this game a 10.

Expand

Getting a close up kill or searching a body reveals horrible textures and the see through effect. Oh yeah, the water is horrible too. It barely moves no matter if you're looking at it from the ground or swimming on the surface. Hardly any animations. Now if water didn't play such a large part in the game environment I would forgive this but for taking place on a huge group of islands you can't help but notice how bad it looks every time you play. Bioshock from 5 years back has water that looks lightyears ahead of FC3. The animals are cool but their sounds get annoying really fast. If there's a big group of them together it sounds ridiculous. The enemy chatter is repetitious, all you hear from them is complaints of the heat and getting VD. Hate to continue the negatives here but there are many. The menu system is poorly designed and convoluted. The game is constantly throwing messages at you on screen which is distracting. Compared to FC2, FC3 has made some improvements. No more respawning enemies and easier fast travel to name a couple. Overall, it just feels rehashed and tired to me though. I actually prefer FC2 overall I think...call me crazy I know. Expand

where the single player is so good, the rest of the game lacks, which is sad because the multiplayer in the game is some of the best this gen, simple and elegant the vs mode puts 2 teams vs each other in one of a few game modes including team deathmatch, transmission ( sort of like headquarters) domination, and a mode called firestorm.
the multiplayer is pretty simple, there is a form of killsteaks that hark back to the COD4 days, there is nothing extraordinarily powerful and things like "scouts" don't last very long the best part about the streaks in this game is you don't lose it when u die. Camping has been a minimum since I got the game.

now for the issues with the game. lets start with the obvious, bugs in single player are game breaking. unlike most games, you cannot save in more then 1 file, so if your file gets a bug no reloading to last save, some bugs include the inability to use your camera ( can't progress in the game). The multiplayer matchmaking is CRAP, there is no party system, it's hard to play with friends. it's frustrating that in this day in age a game is released without a way to play with friends easily.

map editor- the map editor was the sole reason farcry 2 was worth it, player made maps were amazing and better then the developer made maps...the map editor in farcry 3 no longer allows vehicles, ammo, or AI. there used to be race maps and many other kind of maps in far cry 2, but they are now impossible.

co-op, it's an ok mode but not free roam at all, the only real complaint is that it isn't as good as it should have been...

if ubisoft fixes the multiplayer and map editor this game would be amazing.... but sadly, the best features of the series are not present in the newest game
that said, far cry 3 is the best shooter this year..

However the words "Its like Fallout, except in the jungle" shattered any anticipation for what was to come. The story of a man turning almost to insanity as he tries to save his friends from captivity on an island full of maniac pirates seems like an idea that would interesting a film where all attention could be focused on the characters. Though in the form of a game, the story is quite boring and felt like it dragged on but it certainly wasn't bad. Many people will probably enjoy as it suprisingly has much depth. The gameplay makes the game which in itself is a good sign seeing as the presentation seems to overshadow it at first glance. The shooting mechanics are fun and theres a variety of upgrades to suit. The combat situations are interesting and the game allows you to choose how you go about fighting. Story missions are more to guide you through mechanics in the game and further the story as doing your own thing in the sandbox area is where most of the fun comes from. At the same time, the island may look nice to look at, there isn't much actually out there. The presentation is beautiful. The island is wondrous to see, and there are many gorgeous set pieces. It even has a sort of slight cell shade style added to give it an extra gleam and not to mention, the facial animations are great. Overall Far Cry 3 was a great game which was really fun and interesting while also not submitting to modern shooter game cliches. However it failed to keep me interested the whole time and at times it felt like a skip button should've been added as I had no interest in the storyline at all. Okay people, lets ignore these Hyped-up-Fangame-Hippies" with their +10 joy ratings and REALLY give this game a review. With an author that's an actual critic, not someone who's played the game for 10 min.

That being said, lets get down to business:

Far Cry 3 pulls you in! Right away! The first 15 minutes of this game have been some of my most astonishing gaming experiences. Almost instantly you realize the situation you are in, and the things you have to do. Some things happen that are believable and feel legit. And that's exactly what's wrong with this game.

I've spend a solid 20+ hours playing this game and the story line (though many people say is "good") I find to be quite...unrealistic. First of all..Jason Brody. Now, this guy is maybe an adrenaline junky not a stranger to racing cars, jumping out of planes and other things some of us might not do on a regular basis. So I guess the things he does in the game in forms of transportation are plausible. But he goes from being absolutely clueless about what to do, to an expert-stealth-bush-stalking-take-down-accurate-shooting-killing-machine almost overnight! This is no exaggeration.
Using Knifes, Machine guns, Grenades, Rocket launchers, LMG's, Mines, C4, and not to mention shooting an bow and arrow without flaw.....this all becomes available to you in the first act of the game. If they really wanted to create a believable scenario in which someone grows from normal guy, into a fighter. There should have been some sort of builldup in the form of learning how to shoot and learning how to sneak up on people.

The story itself is kind of this-and-that. Making you feel like you're doing what you're told rather then making your own decisions. And though I understand the game has to steer you in some direction as in regard to progress of the game. It would have been nice to have atleast been able to make some form of choice making. I did not feel any emotional attachment what so ever to my friends" You don't really know anything about them, untill you save them, and when you do, you just leave them somwehere in a safe area while you go back killing things. Sure, there is some dialogue....but even the woman portrayed as your girlfriend gives me this feel of annoyance and detachment. (well, I guess thats nothing new to some of you guys ;)

    THE GAMEPLAY:

Like I said, you wield guns well. So you should'nt have any problems finding the gun that suits your particulair need. SIlent approach? Sure, just silence all your guns and stay out of sight.
More of a rambo kinda guy? NO problem, just pick up that LMG, attach an ammo mod and you're good to go.

If you really wanna give yourself a challange, I say go with the knife. This is by far the hardest approach. And also in someways advocated by the game. Since knife kills yield the most experience rewards. (Sometimes stacking up to X5 the normal exp for a kill)

Jason's combat abilities, (if overlooked that he is just a normal kid) do feel good. He responds well. Moves around with ease, and going in and out of combat is quite easy thanks to all the jungle foliage.
I guess it comes down to personal taste here. Myself? SIlenced sniper to get rid of the lookouts" then go in and clean up with the knife.

    THE MISSIONS:

The whole game is riddled with little things to do. Hunt animals. Deliver Cargo. Look for a person. Look for ingredienets. Kill some bad guys. Etc etc...
While the variety of side quests might be plentifull, fun to do and sometimes challanging. I couldn't help but think they where a waste of my time. Tedious repetition just to keep you busy from your main objective. Which is ...ow, I don`t know, trying to get the off a pirate invested island full of people who wanna kill ya?

    SUMMARY:

The only thing really fun to go through, even with it's little implausible setting, is the main story. You'll end up wanting to know what happends, where it goes, and how it all ends. The bad part is, to fully enjoy the story line, you`ll need talent points and upgrades you`ll only get for actively spending time doing side tracking. Such as hunting, clearing outposts and crafting gear.

I think that if you`d focus on the storyline. You could finish this game in less then 8 hours.

I enjoyed Far Cry 3. It isn't a classic but generally, a decent and fun game. One thing I found to be a little tedious in Far Cry 3 was the same environment throughout the entire game, I did start to long for some different scenery. It also really doesn't feel like an open world game, because, even if you're doing it in a big open map, all you've got to do is going from A to B. The characters are well developed. Generally, it is a funny game, but definitely not the best. Expand

The story is truly top notch, voice acting is excellent. The arsenal of guns at your disposal is equally as large, and each one is customizable in the way of attachments, and paint jobs. There are quite a few upgrades to get by hunting and skinning animals (one of my favorite parts), and generally the controls are excellent. Unfortunately, there are a few problems with Far Cry 3 that convey a huge lack of attention to detail. After liberating outposts, more and more side quests open up for you to do. Each one is one of two types, Path of the Hunter, or WANTED dead. Each mission of these type are awfully similar to one another, and need only to be done if you need money. Go find this group of 5 guys, kill one with a knife, rinse and repeat in another area. Also, liberating outposts gets extremely boring after you get about a quarter of them, and by the end I was only doing them to get the achievement, otherwise I would have stopped after about 10 of them. One of my favorite parts of the game, hunting, became completely worthless to do after I got about 20% through the game, as I had already upgraded all of my equipment (except for a few extended pieces). Blue exclamation point side quests are also equally pointless, as each one is so unimaginative it was painfully obvious they were just there to add some sort of filler. A complete playthrough took me only 20 hours, doing everything except collecting the relics and most of the side quests. This is an EXTREMELY short amount of time for an open world RPG, and there is little reason to play it all over again, unless you want to use different guns or approach outposts differently. I had fun, but it was over way too quick, and I wish there was just a little bit more variety. Good job Ubisoft, just not a great job. Expand

The biggest thing is they tried to copy COD (understandable) in a few areas, such as the dogs jumping on you and etc. IMO, I came to this game to get away from COD. You can still knife people through gunfire in this game which is a big reason people get angry at the other shooters. Another downside is the lack of multiplayer games and game-types; it is easy to get bored with the small maps and even smaller teams. The killcam is excessive and horrible, and the final cutscenes when you lose a map make you want to rage-quit (it's bad enough that new players have to try and level up against people who have all unlocks). Finally, the damage is so unrealistic, and this is coming from someone who plays COD and BF. STK in this game is excessively high.

Far Cry 3 is like a bag of those chemically over saturated sweets that come in many different shapes and sizes but ultimately all taste the same. The experience is satisfying but after the deeds are done, there is little to go back to, especially since the main quest tree is so short that you are better off carrying out side missions in tandem with the story.

The experience is satisfying but after the deeds are done, there is little to go back to, especially since the main quest tree is so short that you are better off carrying out side missions in tandem with the story.

The voice acting is strong but the plot and especially the script are terrible. The characters are all caricatures and the protagonist is definitely not someone you can sympathize with. Whiny and always overreacting. Admittedly Jason Brody is up creek and I would definitely have emptied my bowels countless times, were I in the same position. Brody is sadly insfufferable. Perhaps it was a conscious decision for the emotional scope to be so on-the-nose but above all the plot is centred around the dehumanisation of the protagonist... That's serious b! Sadly, you might as well have had high school drama students try and re-enact The Pianist. This is a big deal since FC3 is not Serious Sam. It's not a random guy who goes and pillages space-monkeys but a fragile boy who turns into a ruthless beast. The plot is supposedly central and is meant to grip you, yet it merely gropes you and hides.

Most importantly the shooting mechanics are solid and naturally the source of all things fun. The game is EXTREMELY easy even on the hardest difficulty and beyond. You can hunt animals too RD: Redemption style although I always felt guilty killing the bears and big cats.

Far Cry 2 is a bad apple for many players but it's odd qualities made it challenging and above all made you think about how you were going to survive. FC3 bears no resemblance to FC2 whatsoever but it would have been nice to see some of the nihilistic and unsettling atmosphere of FC2 back around in this release.

The murdering is great fun, the world is big and bright but upon completion it felt like wasted time.

There's also a little bit of mysticism involved, and an upgrade system which greatly reminded me of both Dead Island, and the new Tomb Raider series. This game has a lot of action, and there is an upgrade system, but a lot of different things held this back for me.

It's repetitive. I hate these grindy type games, where you have to do boring missions to improve your stats. I don't want to climb up a million radio towers, and I don't want to hunt animals, and collect plants, and do all that. This should be optional. Technically, it is, but you can't really progress through the game without doing these things. You have to do this rubbish to be strong enough to face the baddies.

That's another thing -- the bad guys. It seems almost all video games have this flaw. Even though this had a stealth system, the baddies were able to detect me, and know where I was, even when I ran, and hid. It didn't work as well as I had hoped. It's especially frustrating when there are a million clones chasing after you, and you have a piece of crap weapon, and low health.

Third, the general geography of the world was annoying. It's going up, and down, and around, and it's hard as f*** to know where you're going. The map doesn't provide much help either. The quest system is extremely flawed. This game, in order to provide a sense of variety, just confuses the average console gamer. How many hours in am I, and I can't store more than two weapons? They have these crappy tutorials, but they actually prove to be annoying. It should be straight forward.

However, this game does have its merits. Like mentioned earlier, there is a good story line that motivates you to carry on. The characters are likeable, and there's lots of stuff to do, and a world to explore. Plenty of action too, more than anyone needs.

But this game just doesn't bring together all the elements I like in a game. The Halo series seems to be the gold standard in first person shooters. They give you lots to do withotu overwhelming the player, and it's fairly easy to follow.

Of course this game is worth a look; however, I believe it is far from perfect. It could've been an 8 or 9, but it didn't quite make it. Clunky interface and repetitiveness held it back for me.

I havnt played far cry 3 before, and with it being released for current gen consoles, being included in the far cry 5 season pass I thought I would go back and play the ps3 version..
after hearing such great things about how this game was robbed for game of the year 2012 by releasing in December.. I was even more excited for what is supposed to be the best game in the far cry series…
And im sorry to break your hearts, but I just don’t see it..
And lets be real.. 2012 we saw the likes of dishonored, assassins creed 3, the walking dead season , lollipop chainsaw, borderlands 2, and journey… get out of here with that robbed nonsense…
Is far cry 3 the best game in the series?
If we don’t count far cry primal, it actually probably is.. that much I agree on.. though Ive never touched far cry 4…
right off the bat, my eyes needed some adjusting.. im geunuinely surprised how bad this only nearly 6 year old game now looks.. I had to get used to the old school graphics to really immerse myself into the world.. thankfully after a couple of hours my brain and eyes did adjust and the negative critiquing ends there..
Because Far Cry 3 while is insanely overrated is stil la really good game
what makes far cry 3 so great is that its so simple and linear… youre placed on a giant island is towers to climb to reveal the map.. its crawling with plants and animals to hunt so you can upgrade your gear, posts to liberate for fast travel points.. and the story is delivered with emotion and great design that we don’t get in the more modern far cry games
I much prefer this delivery style over the recent separate regions, go do things to challenge the region leader nonsense they do now, it pulls everything in and makes It feel personal..
here youl lbe doing a variety of queststhat as you could guess involves a lot of shooting, with the occasional annoying stealth missions thrown in here…
But it never feels like just busy work, I had fun through the whole campaign, and my favorite moments much like in far cry 5 were the moments where youre going through weird hallucinations…
it’s a clever way to create unrealistic levels and bring them into reality and I appreciate that..
and completing quests will reward you with xp that goes towards skill points you can throw in your skill tree
world design however is just okay, not much incentive to explore…
it’s a bunch of greens and blues.. I didn’t feel like much care went into crafting it, but works as land in between missions, and does a great job of coming to life during the main story line..
A story that was again just kind of okay, none of the characters blew me away, there are some surprised in the story.. but nothing that really drew me in or pulled me through to the end..
the pure fun of the gameplay, the shooting, the tower climbing, the hunting.. that’s what kept me going..
there is also co op maps and online multiplayer here but beign a 6 year old game as you would guess theres not many people still playing and there isn’t much to say about it.. its just one of those tacked on multiplayer modes that every AAA ps3 game had
Ultimately I enjoyed Far Cry 3
Its not as great as everyone remembers it being.. it doesn’t hold up..
    but its still decently fun
    I give far cry 3
    a 7.5/10

Far Cry 3 throws an abundance of activities at you and yet non of them or their mechanics are particularly satisfying. You play as carefree fratboy Jason Brody, who along with his equally model-perfect chums, get abducted on an idyllic paradise island, by a group of pirates headed by cliched loony, Vaas. Even before the prologue is over you'll be struggling with who you hate more. The aforementioned cartoon villain, Vaas, or the nauseating protagonist and his 1-dimensional cast of apparently lab-grown wasters. actually, that's a lie. It's the latter. By a long way. This leaves you with an interesting motivational conundrum: It's hard to play as the 'hero' wanting to save all his poor friends, when you really want nothing more then to aid Vaas in helping him skin the lot of them and sell them back to their parents as designer handbags. But the game doesn't let you do this. So much for choice!
And while we're on the subject of choice, don't expect it when it comes to the main story. If you're a stealth player expect the game to remove that option for you in favour of explosions and scripted set-pieces. This is particularly galling when so many of the environments are teeming with great ambush possibilities. But even action fans will be disappointed by how little of the environment is actually accessible due to the maddeningly awful and illogical jumping mechanics. Guns feel pretty weak and hit-detection is spotty. The much vaunted animals provide amusing ad lib moments, ruining your or your enemies plans, but quickly become tiresome, particularly as they appear virtually and comically indestructible. Bears and tigers will barely break stride when confronted by such inconveniences as 3 sniper rifle bullets to the face and animals as small as dogs will shrug off petty attacks like being run over by a 4x4. The save system is awful, and the whole island feels plasticky. If all you desire from a game is a huge map, loads of stuff to do (and by that I mean shoot and blow stuff up) and aren't particularly bothered how well it does it, or by how painfully, insultingly vacant the plot and characters are then I can guarantee you will love this game. I found one that constantly teased greatness,, only to waste a whole lot of design potential, to the point where it became an infuriating, vapid bore.

I was really hoping for a better game based on the reviews. However, I like games with good story telling and more variety and this game simple didn't have enough of that to justify a better score...however it did hold enough of my interest to play it until the end, which obviously means I still enjoyed it to some degree.

The freeform combat, gorgeous locations, and excellent multiplayer are strong, and Far Cry 3 does a fantastic job of putting the player in the middle of a lawless, chaotic world and letting them get up to whatever they please. Yes, video games are capable of achieving much more than Far Cry 3 does, but it makes a persuasive argument that there's nothing wrong with a guilty pleasure now and again—especially when it's as slickly presented as this is.
