The problem with Modern Warfare 3, is that it's essentially Modern Warfare 2.5. It's not that it's too much of the same thing. I would have been fine with that if it wasn't for all the little changes that make varied styles of gameplay in this version of MW downright unenjoyable. I've read complaints comparing MW3 to an overpriced expansion pack; those comments may well be deserved. But my biggest beef about this game is that the little perks that made varied styles of play work in MW2 have changed or are gone completely (too many to name here). Further, with the style of maps created for MW3 and with the aforementioned changes in perks, the game is now a "gift" to campers and snipers (what I always thought was a lazy and boring style of play). I was a 3 or 4 to 1 K/D player in the previous versions but if I'm going to even come close to 2 to 1 in MW3, I have to camp or snipe. That goes for EVERY map, not just two or three. I'm glad I didn't sell back my copy of MW2. I may just go back to playing it until the next big thing comes along. Expand

To be honest I feel pretty bad giving this game such a low score. If you were to come into the game from a completely neutral standpoint, having never played any COD game before, you'd likely think I was crazy. The game is at least solid, and has no major gamebreaking glitches. For most of us here however, that's just not the case. I started my COD experience on MW2, and it didn't take me long to figure out that OMA Tubing was the way to go. The game was severely broke due to this, yet nothing was ever done to fix it. A simple patch could have been released that would have fixed this in a variety of different ways, but never did. It infuriated me that they pushed DLC but never took just a little time and fixed the gameplay itself - I guess there was no money in that since people were taking in the DLC hook, line, and sinker. To me it's comparable to putting rims on a car that won't start. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. When Black Ops came out I let my friend buy it to see what it was like. Although the tubes were not infinite, the maps were still small and corridor based. They left in last stand, and the p2p latency issues persisted - including the dashboarding. If you're not aware, on the Xbox 360 if the host hits the guide button and then hits Y to go to the dashboard, it will drop the game and not migrate host. Spawning was still terrible, too, with people spawning behind you or vice versa. I had my share of unfair spawns on the enemy and I just cringed as I knifed them in the back after spawning less than 5 - 10 feet behind them, knowing that the same would later happen to me. Anyhow, this is a review of MW3 and it is pretty much the same as MW2. If you ask someone who plays MW2 and MW3 they may say the difference is night and day, and I'm sure it can be since comparisons are always relative of the scope. If you open up the comparison to include all games, the two are nearly identical. Sure there are no infinite tubes and the killstreaks are different, but what else? The core gameplay is completely unchanged, to include the horrible spawning from MW2 and Black Ops. And unfortunately the maps are actually getting smaller. Sniping was never great in MW2 except for possibly quickscoping, which is just a childish concept anyhow. Now that the maps keep getting smaller it is getting ever more useless.

I have not played the campaign. I did play the MW2 campaign and from what I've read the MW3 campaign is pretty much the same. If you thought the MW2 campaign was good, then... you should probably do a swan dive onto cement. It was so bad it nearly made my brain explode just playing through it - and that's just the silly over-dramatic cutscenes. The gameplay is quite honestly the most childish, unbelievable, super-charged piece of trash I've ever played. I don't know how much experience any of the kids that play it have had with the military, but as a veteran I am appalled. Some of the missions from MW2 would have you running and gunning as one man killing nearly a hundred other soldiers. All with completely scripted events and no real need for tactics. Pathetic. If you want to play a FPS that has a good single player campaign on the Xbox 360, then play Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. It's $20 on games on demand, and worth every penny. Do not confuse it with Operation Flashpoint: Red River, which is in fact a fresh steaming turd.

So after having played MW3 it didn't take me long to realize what they are doing is actually just trying to cycle out a game every year like sports games. I suppose they realized what a cash grab those were and that there was an audience dumb enough to buy those games that could also be exploited for FPS games. Just save your money if you aren't interested in annual installments of the same rehashed game. In the case that you do want annual installments of the same old stuff, then I'm assuming you fall into the 25% of Americans that are retarded. In which case I doubt you made it past the first few sentences without stuttering, and certainly haven't read this far, which makes the point moot.

The new weapons are cool and all but once you prestige 1 time the game is very ho-hum. You basically have to pick a couple weapons and use them the entire time if you would like to max them out. Respawning drops you into a lot of situations where you get spawn killed. Also the usual "drop you into a match where you are on the losing team and the other team needs 2 kills to win" scenario is still very common. If COD games send your blood pressure through the roof maybe pass on this one or get you doctor to give you some xanax. I rate i low because I will probably sell it in the next few days. This game proves that Infinity Ward is stubborn and is now the inferior development company to Treyarch. Treyarch had a lot of good ideas that were implemented in Black Ops that are totally ignored in MW3 and are very obvious. The first one that comes to mind is the point reward system for assists and last stand kills. Assists in MW3 are not subject to how much damage you did to the enemy before they were killed. This means either the Development team at IW either had their head so far up their asses that they didn't know that Treyarch changed this system, or they are stubborn and had to have it their way which now is a huge step backwards. Also last stand kills were changed to the old annoying system where you miss out on the kill if you don't shoot the person while they are on last stand. IW needs to get with the times and make these changes or they are going to loose fan base and ruin the COD name. Many of the broken aspects of MW3 aren't even fixable via updates now. The maps in MW3 are much inferior to BO. There are no good vantage points, no interesting indoor combat, and no sense of a battlefront on the map anywhere. Spawning has to do a lot with this as well, but the maps need to be well laid out for the spawning to work properly. The only thoughtful addition to this game is the Support Strike Package. Which I think offers a good alternative to people who are less serious about the game and like for their kills to tally despite a death. This addition is a good idea, but its a feeble attempt at trying to cater to these types of players. MW games are becoming too run and gun and too fast. Many people are impatient with this game, and COD is loosing a lot of players due to the anxiety attack this game can give players. Between the small maps, offensively close proximity spawning, and "quickscoping", people are dropping their controllers in favour of TV programs and movies. The speed and spawning of this game is actually offensive to me as a FPS lover. Its like IW wasn't sure that their new game was going to be good so they simply made the spawning closer together and the maps even smaller so you could get even more kills. What they didn't realize is that their insecurity actually killed the fun and creativity of the game. Its like IW thinks that us consumers are so retarded and so ADD that we can;t stand to have one second of gameplay where we aren't shooting at someone. When I play this game all I find myself doing is yelling "**** off" at my television. What i mean when I say that is I don't want to see an enemy on the map every half second, I don't want enemies spawning right on my ass constantly, and that despite what IW thinks I actually have the patience to move to a battlefront or take 10 steps before I have to defend against another damn submachine gun. Thanks for being retards IW and ruining what could have been a great creative game. If you treat your customers like retards, they will eventually stop giving you their money. COD is now on the decline thanks to this **** game. Expand

They failed to fix nagging issues from MW2 which have now carried over and are in fact worse. The balance of weaponry is pitiful in my view and the maps are absolute crap. When I first put in the disk I thought I was playing MW2. The graphics are the same, the weapon unbalance is the same, and the killstreaks are still overpowered. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. the reason mw2, BO, and? mw3 suck is because they flood the games with stupid **** that nobody wants. cod4 was good because it was straight-forward and simple

If you're comparing it to the other Modern Warfare titles, it sucks. The graphics have somehow gotten WORSE since Modern Warfare 2. They made the maps bigger...which is a fail because Call of Duty is all about fast paced action, and there's nothing fast pace about trying to find enemies. None of the maps even seem well thought out...most of them are random buildings, cars and pipes randomly thrown all over the place. The game is just a mess. This is my last Call of Duty game and I'm strongly considering selling this game. I thought Black Ops sucked, but honestly, it was better than this game.

No, this review is not because I suck at the game. It is based on the fact that I've played Cod 4, Cod 5, MW2 and Black Ops prior to this.

Of course EAdrones never actually played the game for longer than 4 hours, so their "experience" comes from screenshots and videos, which can look a lot like MW2 - the artstyle hasn't changed, but thanks to that, the game can run smoothly on old computers, and also - games are about gameplay, not about the graphics.
And the MW3's gameplay is amazing, like in every CoD. Every multiplayer game you'll play will be packed with action, explosions and firefights, and after every one you'll feel exhausted by the amount of pure fun you just got.

What they've done is taken a great shooter franchise that's quick, accurate and FUN and added a "drawback" to just about every aspect of the game. What I mean is that, in order for them to come up with more new useless perks they had to make that particular aspect of the game slower. Reload times suck so here's sleight of hand. You can't draw your weapon fast enough so here's quickdraw pro and on and on. Throw in the occasional glitch and the game offers up some truly frustrating sequences. Not to mention that the campaign still doesn't crack the 8 hour mark, even on hardened, and Activision proves once again they are full of garbage when they say they focus on both campaign and multiplayer. I'm gonna start out by saying that this game isn't as horrible as all of the negative reviews make it out to be. There is fun to be had in this game but it can get old rather quickly but this varies from person to person. Modern Warfare 3 is not a horrible and nearly unplayable game but at the same time it is not fantastic and was mostly over hyped. There is fun to be had in this game but it can get old rather quickly but this varies from person to person. Modern Warfare 3 is not a horrible and nearly unplayable game but at the same time it is not fantastic and was mostly over hyped. Let's start with the single player. As with the other Call of Duty games the single player is fairly short, lasting about 5 hours (maybe a little less) if you are playing on Recruit or Regular difficulty. On higher difficulties it could last about 6 to 8 hours. The story is a pay-off for the fans who stuck to Call of Duty since the first Modern Warfare. This is the last Modern Warfare of the series. The story for the most part is decent although there are some plot holes that may leave you asking some questions. The campaign is very linear with you being told to follow Captain Price or other people. This is basically the game holding your hand and telling you what to do instead of finding your own way of getting from Point A to Point B. There is some variety however as you will sometime get to control a new weapon or gadget of some sort so the game doesn't feel like a shooting gallery from start to finish even though it is for the most part. The campaign is mostly a thrill ride. You will see and do things that to others seem awesome while others will feel that these epic moments simply fall flat on their faces but there are some "wow" moments that you may like a lot and will remember fondly from the campaign. Next is Spec-Ops. These are basically a series of challenges that you can do alone or with a friend. There is also a new endurance mode called Survival, which is similar to Nazi Zombies from other Call of Duty games except the zombies are soldiers and you must buy weapons from a crate with money you earn from killing enemies and vehicles instead of buying them from a wall. Like most endurance challenges from other games you must survive waves of enemies that continuously get stronger and harder to kill while the player must also make himself stronger by buying weapons and other things such as armor and killstreaks. However, most of these things are locked until you achieve a higher level. Your level in Spec Ops is separate from your level in multiplayer. So you must rank up by playing Spec Ops missions and playing Survival in order to access new guns, killstreaks, armor, etc. As for the missions, they are entertaining while at the same time frustrating. Some missions even let you play a bit of the campaign but from a different perspective. Overall, they are good. Especially when you're with a friend. Now for the meat of the game. The multiplayer. This is probably where your gonna spend most of your time playing this game. Take note that if you've played most of the other Call of Duties from Call of Duty 4 and after then don't expect a great deal of change from the other games. Multiplayer has improved in a few ways but has also become worse in others but the core of the game remains unchanged for the most part. There are plenty of varied game modes to play such as Team Deathmatch, Free-for-All, Headquarters, Domination, Search and Destroy, Demolition, Sabotage, and the new Kill Confirmed gametype. There are also Hardcore Mode and Mercenary variants of each gametype. Along with private matches which have a decent number of gametype customization options so that you can set up gametypes to have fun with friends. Theater mode makes a return from Black Ops where you can record film clips to share with friends and such. There is also the weapon proficiency which let's you level up your gun to earn new attachments, camos, and perks. This is better than Modern Warfare 2's way of getting attatchments and camos since you just have to level up the gun itself to get attachments and camos instead of using the gun in a specific way to get what you want. Such as killing people through walls with FMJ to get extended magazines for your assault rifle and getting headshots for camos. At the same time this is worse than Black Ops since most of the attachments and camos are preference. In Black Ops you could spend CoD Points to buy the attachment or camo that you want instead of leveling up for it. Killstreaks are split into strike packages. You have Assault, Support, and Specialist. Assault and Specialist work similarly where if you do good then you do better with momentum. Assault has killstreaks that work in an offensive manner while Specialist will give you additional perks of your choosing with kills. Support is self explanatory the only exception is that you have point streaks which carry over even after you die. There is some weapon imbalance but this can be fixed through patching. The multiplayer is enjoyable and sometimes addicting but you won't find much new. Expand

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
