Call of Duty seems to have an inverse relationship between sales and gameplay. The better the sales, the more basic the gameplay. Gone are the expansive maps that offered strategic gameplay. There is not even a need for sniper rifles in the multiplayer because the maps are boxed off into small areas. I'm going to take a pass on the next one. The game is just overhyped and over marketed. I purchased 3 of the elite versions because 2 of my sons and I used to like playing multiplayer with each other. It's good for running and gunning but that gets boring on these maps. I also think that Activision's money grab is going to force future releases to require external activation like the elite to bypass XBOX Live. That was a complete disaster and ruined my experience. It was a real hardship to register and I couldn't for a month. What did Activision do? Give an extra 30 days, no consideration for the grief of their customers. They should have given 90 days or an equivalent compensation. This forces me to give them a goose egg. I still feel bitter about it. Expand

I love COD yet I honestly find MW3 is just disappointing. While it doesn't deserve an F, it never reaches the heights of MW3. The campaign, while intense, is just full of cliches and plotholes that make no sense. If the Russian president is traveling over for a peace treaty, who gave the order for Russia to invade Europe? Also what's the point of showing a child die? War is bad? That's already been expressed a billion times and it doesn't further the plot unlike the nuke and massacre in MW1 & 2. Given the new standards in storytelling set by shooters like Blops and Bioshock, COD should provide both a good story AND good shooting gameplay. The multiplayer feels a bit better and has an interesting pointstreak system yet it's a bit stifled as there's no match making for gun games and infection mode. Also the Juggernaut pointstreaks are too powerful because they have both regenerative health AND near-impenetrable bull**** armor. The Treyarch's creative run-and-gun zombies mode is replaced with a boring cover-based survival mode. Listen devs, the reason why zombies was well loved because it was a refreshing change of pace that offered some old-school fun reminiscent of that of Painkiller. It's not horrible, but if feels like the lazy combo of multiplayer gameplay and maps with single player enemies. The environments appear as if smothered in a grayish wallpaper paste vomit and the original dev team and Hans Zimmer are all gone. This game is more obligation than inspiration. If it were a $30 expansion pack, I would've tolerated it, but MW3 is just underwhelming. It's like RE5, the game I love is in here, but its creative spark is gone and it's not amazing. Expand

Activison is a spammer, they spam the same game at you every year. It's funny how they do not take long to make CoD games, it's because they copy and paste everything... from sounds, guns EVERYTHING. By the end of this year we will have 17 or 18 Call of Duties... They will come out with A PS Vita version too, they are comming out with Black Ops 2, Pretty soon you wont know which Call of Duty came out first... Why don't all games just be called Call of Duty? Pretty soon you will buy a different game, and Call of Duty will be in the box.... there's no escaping Call of Duty. Activison is ruining the gaming industry, and you guys are letting them... How about we have a kinect version aswell? Call of Duty needs to die, and if it doesn't we probably will have another videogame crash, like we did a long time ago when E.T came out for the Atari... Everyone should take there CoD games and fly them to a hidden desert and bury it. Better yet, how about we take all C0D games and spend a few billion dollars and fly them into the sun. I'm guessing that wouldn't work either, the sun would get sick of playing C0D all the time too and explode... Mark my words... I bet when everyone gets tired of Call of Duy..Activison will keep making them, but call it something else. From now on they should just call it Re-call of Duty... And on the box it should say " Now with more of the same" 2 weeks later out comes Re-call of Duty 2 Pink Ops. And Super Call of Duty brothers. Expand

Game's been the same and never ever changed, do yourself a favor and do not buy this game. It's filled with children, rehashed content, the only thing that changes from game to game are the perk, maps, and killstreak. Even the weapons are just re-skins because they never introduce something new.

Lots of us who have given it a bad score have said what many others can't. Our opinions!!!! It shocks me how you can say that it has improved. A 10 year old can think of some guns and kill streaks. Now for the single player. What a muddled mess this is. A sheep could predict, the storey soap dies and you kill makerov. This is more like DLC MW2 or MW2.5. No effort put in at all. And it is so sad that in 2 years time 10 million more people will go and buy it just because it has Call of Duty or MW in the title it upsets me to be honest. I will never fall for it again.

Trash. That's what this game is. Call of Duty: A franchise that has set the standard for all FPS games to live up to. MW3 continues it's already bland story by spicing things up with an old threat with a new plan to destroy the world. With that said, let's look at the campaign. 'This game delivered no shocks, no surprises that I haven't seen before or anticipated. At least in MW2 'No Russian' was a shocking thing to play through. And of course CoD4 had the nuke explosion. The campaign was lackluster and under prepared. It felt rushed and like with all CoD campaigns now, you have no earthly clue what's going on. Single player gets a 1/10 because it did bring everything full circle and now maybe Infinity Ward can get back on track to making a great single player experience. Multiplayer was just as awful as MW2. It's become an arcade game with horribly overpowered guns and people that make use of the ability to camp 24/7. The maps aren't all that enjoyable to play on and they don't feel like new environments that I enjoy from video games. I get that it's hard to build on past success but Infinity Ward has really let itself go by appeasing to the masses with their multiplayer experience. Multiplayer gets a 0/10. I'm glad people are finally realizing that this series has gone down the hole from it's glory days, but as long as it has a Call of Duty title, it will make MILLIONS of dollars. An Expand

The only thing about this game that might be worth paying any attention towards are the Spec Ops missions and the newly added survival mode (which is essentially the same as Treyarch's Zombies installment). Even then, only a hand full of the Spec Ops missions are interesting enough to hold my attention, mainly because they feel like a pain to even do in the first place. The missions should be creative and "outside of the box", so to speak, but they end up feeling like a household chore instead. The multiplayer is the same as always, and a predictable storyline throughout the campaign really spoils most of the excitement for player. So all you get with MW3 is a stale and half-assed attempt at a game, with one of it's newest feature (Survival Mode) being a stolen and spent game type made famous by Treyarch. Not one thing about this is new or original! The original MW was a breakthrough, it had great story and gameplay, what I didn't expect however was that same game to be released again two years later with litle more than a texture pack and some campaign DLC. Considering this my attitude to MW2, imagine my surprize when the thinking caps down at Activision went into over drive and made MW3. Once again all I can say is wow thats a nice texture pack and DLC. Fair enough the mutiplayer is fun, but its no different from the first two. The only thing worth a penny in the call of duty series right now is the Zombies mini-game, considering a lack of that in this title to me it is worthless. Want some fun, go out and buy something you have never played before, because in about ten years time your going to look at your game collection and realised that for those ten years you spent just over £1000 on the same game every single year.

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
