Same old same old. If you played MW2, you've already played MW3. A new coat of paint, and you have yourself the exact same game. Just like bad music, it sold like crazy. Doesn't mean it's good. Sick of the same product year after year.

Very disappointed at mw3, maps are very small , gun selection is low and the worst parxt is the quick scope is worse then ever, at the moment playing bf3. The only decent thing was campaign...and I don't play the campaign unless multiplayer sucks

The story behind the campaign is awesome and I love that it picks up right where it left off. The multiplayer is also worth the purchase. It may not seem a lot different than prior Call of Duties but it is different enough that makes it really fun and the things that are different are what you probably wanted to be different originally.

Same game as last 3 years, I don't know why anybody still buys this awful rehashed crap. Game play is virtually untouched from MW2 and apart from new maps and new guns, there really isn't any innovation, originality or creativity that made COD so popular in the first place.

This is my honest review based on how I feel about MW3 after playing it for 20+ hours, not based on the manufactured rivalry between MW3 and Battlefield 3. The rivalry was made up by EA to sell games. If you want to hear about their game, go to the BF3 review page. If you want to hear about MW3, read on. They're both perfectly good games, so play whatever you like.

This review is based only on MW3's multiplayer. At the time of this review, I'm still only a few hours into the campaign, I haven't touched Spec Ops, but I've invested 20+ hours in multiplayer. That's how I play every Call of Duty game. I bought the game specifically for the multiplayer, and for me that was worth the $60 USD. I personally wouldn't advise anyone to buy a COD game only for the single player campaign. I always play the campaign eventually, and enjoy it, but I don't think a COD campaign is worth the full $60 USD investment. Most of the campaigns are a 10 hour, very linear, but very cinematic experience.

MW3's multiplayer is the most balanced and fully realized of all of the COD games that I've played. While we all have a particular iteration of the series that we've put the most hours into and feel the most attached to, MW3 feels the most clean and equitable after years of tweaking in the series. If you can still burn hundreds of hours on the multiplayer, or if this is your first COD game, I highly recommend it for the multiplayer experience alone. If you're burned out on COD multiplayer or never liked it to begin with, then there's no reason to buy this one.

I thought they made a big deal about how they were trying to remove campers etc from the game.. so they made each map like a maze and provided plenty of dark places to lie on the floor and wait for passing trade.

Compared to some other titles which have just come out this is a weak, poor game. Cashes in on previous success.

Game is no different from modern warfare 2, seriously this is an expansion pack DLC. Very stupid of activision to use some of the same buildings, items etc. As mw2.

I gave up on cod after the fourth one, was always a Halo and BF fan anyways.

On with the review. The campaign picks up almost immediately after MW2, and it's bang bang, boom boom start to finish. You toss in U.S. Army's Delta Squad in the battle for New York, then on to France, Germany, UK, it starts to feel like the COD we remember from the WWII shooter era. The problem, is other than Soap, Price, Makarov, and company we have seen since the original MW series started, all the other characters feel very disconnected, I found it extremely difficult to connect with any of the Delta, SAS, GIGN, or any other organization portrayed. But our heroes from MW, and MW2, are back. I wont give away the story or any plot points, but it ties the series up nicely, and ends it, no cliff hanger, no BS, the story ends, but it just didnt feel satisfying, now mind you, I don't know how you can turn up the heat any higher than 11, but other than the Price/Soap/Makarov characters, I was just shooting anything that was on the other end of the hallway.

The multiplayer is a level of balance not seen since the first MW game, the GL's have been toned down, the maps feel much less claustorphobic, and much less obvious choke points. Yes, the other team can still pin you down if they are effective, but that effectiveness degrades quite a bit. I still found myself spawning next to the guy who just killed me, or stabbed in the back by the guy I just killed, and am still performing the reload for, but even thats small potatoes. You will spend much of the first portions of multiplayer getting award after award, and it's nearly rapid fire, but it feels like a ploy to keep you interested rather than actually award you for an accomplishment. It is still satisfying when you hear the noise, or rank up, but when you see some of the reasons as to why you got the award, you just think to yourself "THAT was it?".

Our friendly neighborhood Nuke is gone, all the modes are in tact, including a new super addictive Kill Confirmed mode, everytime you get a kill, you collect dog tags from your enemy, however, you begin to wonder if risking your own head is worth it when you see the golden tag in front of your face, when some jerk with a rocket launcher is waiting on you to go for it, or should you get the red tags and save your team the death point? I find it fun, and keeps me focused for hours.

I was lucky enough to get the game before a lot of people stateside got it home (Japan), I spent the first few hours or so thinking I was hot stuff killing everything that moved. After work ended, I got a really nasty awakening, aside from continual deaths and frustration, screaming kids were back to let me know what they were planning on doing with my mother that particular evening, and how much these puny voices claimed they could pound me to a bloody pulp if they saw me in person, yep, MW is back, and mom didnt look at the ESRB rating again.

I don't hate MW, or any Modern Combat games, they are well done, and polished well. I was more turned off by MW3 that within the first 3 hours of playing online, I ran into 6 hosts that were cheating/hacking/exploiting, 8 people were ALREADY 10 prestige, and maxxed out all around, and the leaderboards had already been screwed with.

One more note, I am disappointed that COD Elite service to date (21 November) has been either hit or miss, or just broken. The companies know how wildly popular this series is, but they werent "prepared" for the overload? What did they think was going to happen? To the biggest entertainment launch in history, great work, now please go back to the drawing board, and get something new out there.

7.5 at an absolute push, MW3 to me was a disappointment, and unless Activision allow the developers to take some innovative new directions, will be sign posted as the beginning of the once great COD franchise's decline.

Allow me to backup ever so slightly and elaborate on why I believe this was such a let down. I will start by saying this review applies to about 87% of the total content of the game, which is the multiplayer portion. I did not touch the campaign, as i suspect the majority of players buying the game will not either.

Graphically the game is just fine. Users on this site claiming it looks poor or outdated are over exaggerating, as the game looks perfectly current (in terms of console comparisons) whilst not as impressive as i found in BF3 or Crysis 2. It's smooth and runs at the staple 60fps although does feel a incy wincy little bit like a MW2 re-skin, however this is not a bad thing as that game looked great too.

The overall game play is your standard COD fare, which is great if your a hardcore COD fan, that is to say guns kill quick (faster than BLOPs and appears slightly quicker than MW2), customised classes, kill-streaks (slightly revises and coming in 3 flavours essentially offense, defense, show off) and cluttered maps that allow your usual run and gunners or your "tactical" campers.

What i found lacking was only a couple of new game modes; kill confirmed is a variation on team death match and involves picking up a dog tag to score a point after killing someone. The maps were all mediocre and not nearly appealing to play the first time around as was the case in MW2. Having perks that remove recoil also reduces the competitiveness when using that weapon as you essentially have a weapon that is easier to aim with than a low level player new to the game.

In summary, i will say that the majority of you guys interested in supplying yourself with another COD fix will be satisfied and will find loads to keep you busy. If your after something different and more competitive, then get battlefield 3.

Mabye not revolutionizing FPS's, but has the most detailed and balanced multiplayer of any COD. A good solid campaign and return of spec ops mode make this a package with enough features to keep coming back to in the next few months. But this perspective has subsided with MW3, but before I continue I have to admit that I have already played and completed Battlefield 3's campaign, and I have to admit both BF3 and MW3 impressed, but I do prefer BF3 overall - but this is my review of MW3 so I'll highlight what I enjoyed during my latest Call of Duty experience, and also what I feel lets it down.

My main criticism of past cod games is that they never seem to have memorable characters, and even though the primary characters in MW3 are for the most part familiar I think during the course of the campaign they are far better developed, which helps immerse you deeper into the story and gameplay. Lets face it the story is so far fetched beyond comprehension, but it had me wanting more and keeping me on my toes with the different surroundings and locales - which were very impressive.

From a technical perspective MW3 doesn't break any new ground in the visual department, but that's not to say it's not a pleasantly looking game. It is however technically sound with regards to textures and non existent screen tearing, plus I didn't experience any slow-down during the more epic battles, but I do think the overall pace and weapon sounds need some work. I like a well presented game and feel the menu system, as with previous cod games, lack in presentation. The font used in game and each of the menu screens is related to the series but I feel it needs revamping as it feels cheap and outdated. But this is a minor criticism and doesn't impact on the gameplay whatsoever.

I'm not big on multiplayer these days, but what I have played is pretty much what I expected. It's solid, although like with many other people it is the habits of other players rather than the game itself that make the experience less enjoyable. The term 'camper' is what i associate with any Call of Duty release with regards to muliplayer, and yet again I have had to put up with their lack of gamership. I'm sure they could devise a playlist or gametype that could eliminate this plague and make the experience a more fulfilled one?... On the positive though the familiar ranking and experience system remains, meaning if you are unlucky enough be listed with a bunch of gamers that can't rack up the kills for the team, then you are not penalized too heavily for carrying your team to another glorious defeat.

All in all I enjoyed the campaign and have the need to play through it again on the highest difficulty, so I will certainly get the full value from the £25 offer Tesco sucked me into!

To be honest I expected more form this sequel. I personally feel let down, there could have been a better campaign. The campaign had to many over the top actions sequence that left a bad taste. Multiplayer could have been so much better. I feel as if this game was more of a content dump then a true sequel. Don't get me wrong survival is really nice addition to the game. I feel at this point they rushed the product out before making big changes/fixes. I guess Activision know if they put the name "call of duty" on any of there products people will buy. Expand

What can i tell about this Game?!? Its the same as the last one , nothing new , same stupid running shooting point, running shoot point, running shoot point. Nice vid Sequences but nothing spectakular.
The best of the Game you have seen 1000 times before in any Trailer.

Im sorry I already bought COD:4, MW2, WAW and Black-Ops...... Seems I draw the line at buying the same game at 4. MW3 is a truly undeserving lack of innovation by infinity ward and sledgehammer games. Reviews like destructoid(worst game review site ever) that bash BF3 and love MW3 and make stupid points are whats wrong with the review system these days. Reviews like destructoid(worst game review site ever) that bash BF3 and love MW3 and make stupid points are whats wrong with the review system these days. They've all been paid off, as anyone who is a REAL gamer(i.e. doesn't play cod) can blatantly see. The user score here reflects how PEOPLE are feeling and not the "critics". Hell what makes their opinion greater than ours, cause they've a website??!? Thats why I look at websites like imdb to get a proper meta review of the general publics reaction to a movie. I tell you now, I was a cod fanboy in cod4..... but I've now had enough of this. you cant release a yearly game like this, it just doesn't work. Its also the reason why I'm not buying assassins creed this year. Its unacceptable and an undeserving distraction from truly amazing games like uncharted 3, batman arkham city, BF3, Skyrim and dark souls(bought them all). this game deserves a minus score, 0 is too good for the insult to gamers everywhere this game brings. Oh and infinity ward, dont **** about users boycotting your game on metacritic, maybe this time you'll listen. You actually begged for users to vote the score up. CHANGE YOUR GAME AND WATCH THE SCORES CHANGE YOU JOKE OF A COMPANY!!! Cant pay off everyone, although how about this, pay me off and i'll take this review down :P Expand

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
