Batman Arkham Asylum set the bar very high .Suprisingly this installment clears it . The new moves in the combat system such as stunning an enemy first and then unleashing a lethal combo was a nice addition . The bigger open word map and the plot is great . This is one of the best games for 2011 and one of the best for the generation . Well done Rocksteady

I don't like giving anything a 10/10 unless I'm sure of it, and I am sure that Batman: Arkham City is one of the greatest games ever made. From it's extraordinary combat system and beautiful open world, to superb voice acting and a fantastic plot, Arkham City has absolutely everything. That's it. Play it.

Everything that Arkham Asylum amazed with, this game perfects. In my Top Five of All Time, Arkham City takes the open-world aspect and multiplies it by five. While it doesn't fill it with as many important events (Asylum used every area to it's full potential, City touches on each of them maybe once or twice max), it provides so many areas to roam, explore, and clear of hostiles. Endlessly impressive and entertaining, City prides itself on it's large map, unpredictable story, and perfect gameplay. Customization is limited but with a character you don't want to alter, the lack of options is in no way a detraction. You still get new weapons, abilities, and tech to ease combat and make the game more fun. You truly feel like a superhero when playing this game which makes the game fairly easy to beat, but it's even easier to spend more time than necessary beating the story. The gameplay is more fluid than any other game I've played even after nearly 7 more years of game releases. I tried to beat everything in this game, extras and all; it's difficult. There are puzzles, challenges, and feats to overcome which all prove to be challenging. Without a doubt, what all this game offers is much more than 95% of other games you could spend your time with. Arkham City is well worth every second. Expand

Even though they have pretty much have the same combat system this game seems to do it the most justice though. Then we get to Batman, the man the game is based on. He is done perfectly from the voice of the fantastic Kevin Conroy who never misses a beat. He is wonderful, he's menacing and threatening when he needs the great thing about Conroy. Is that he doesn't sound like he wants to break everybody's bones 24/7 he just did a fantastic job all around. The Riddler's challenges are very plentiful and although they do get pretty annoying sometimes I still liked them. I always loved it when I solved one that was hard to me and feeling a sense of accomplishment. The side missions are very well done as well, from the mission where you are tracking down the sniper to hunting down the identity thief. This game just was all around amazing, it's easily the best superhero I've ever played and also might be the best video game I've ever played Expand

All the game is a masterpiece, that deserves the glory and attention. A great game with a great development team behind. You will need all you intellect to make strategies for this game.
The only thing that i found "bad" on this game is that maybe, just maybe, it will be kind of frustrating, each death comes with a little anger made by the current villain; this makes you want to play more but if you die many times in a row well... could make you hate the game. And also it has many collectibles, so many, maybe if there were a few less collectibles, the game will make the trophy hunters come to it to give some fight.

I really enjoy Rocksteady’s darker more psychological take on Batman. As he and Catwoman fight their personal demons and the rouges gallery of villains. I really enjoyed how Rocksteady choose to portray the villains especially. Mark Hamill gave one of the best performances of his career as the joker and cemented his place as the definitive animated joker. The ending of this game is hands down the greatest video game ending of all time in my opinion. It’s a dark sad and gritty game. I definitely recommend. Expand

    - Arkham City is a great sandbox. The cleverly placed grapple points and environment will have you swinging, climbing, and gliding with satisfaction.

    - You get a chance to work in the same interests as some villains, which is a nice twist compared to Arkham Asylum.

    - Gadgets are unique and their applications are very cool. Every playable characters have their own unique upgrades also.

    - Conversations throughout Arkham City between the inmates give more information about the plot as it is updated through Batman's actions.

    - The cries of the political prisoners are gruelling enough to make you want to save them.

    - Combat has improved from Arkham Asylum. There are more variety of skills you can learn to handle enemies with new equipment.

    - Many villains are featured. In the main quest, without DLCs, most only appear for a short duration. With DLCs, they will appear again for the side quests.

    - The precision in selecting the gadgets, located on the diagonals of the d-pad, have been improved from Arkham Asylum.

    Cons:

None (nothing major), in my opinion.

Following up on one of the best action games in recent memory, Batman: Arkham City manages to up the ante in almost every way you can imagine.

While it loses some of the focused and contained psychological elements of Arkham Asylum, this sequel makes up for the loss in sheer scale and ambition in its story, side missions and extra DLC content. Not only did Rocksteady create a bolder and more ambitious game story, but they also created more memorable villain boss fights, multiply Riddler challenges by 5x, and just smash so much more content and things to do in the game.

I loved the Catwoman and Robin DLC challenges and options in-game as well as the introduction of new skins to play with and of course the much larger map Batman has to fly across. Also important is the slightly refined combat mechanics from Arkham Asylum. One of the very few complaints I had with Asylum was its occasional combat mechanic issues and clunkiness that made it less fluid than hoped for. All those issues were fixed in the sequel.

If you're a fan of Batman games, this might be the definitive Batman game out there (still need to play Arkham Knight). The story, challenges, gadgets, content, and overall experience make this simply one of the best games I've ever played.

Gameplay: 9/10 Once you get used to the controls, gliding through the city, performing silent takedowns and taking on a dozen thugs at once is second nature and tons of fun. As for the environment, it's Gotham City. A piece of it anyway. As you have seen is in the comics, movies, and animation. It's Batman's play ground and every alleyway, overpass, and roof top feels the way it's supposed to. You are Batman. Graphics: 9/10 Beautiful and dark in a dirty way. The city looks and feels like it's seen better days and that's a good thing. It rains and snows in places as spotlights scan the night sky and it all looks so saturated in the Unreal Engine sheen. Texture pop-in is rare but present but when everything looks as it should it's easy to forget. Sound: 10/10 Countering a thug with his own baseball bat makes an expected crack, that's just one example that comes to mind. Sounds are never recycled and there a hundreds of them. Voice acting is some of the best in any video game and the music is moody and appropriate for Batman with obvious nods to Tim Burtons 1989 score and Hans Zimmer's latest from the Nolan films. Value: 10/10 The side missions alone feel like there own game. If the developer was greedy they could have cut this game into 3rds. They could have sold the main story for $60 and the others as DLC and you would still be getting your moneys worth just the base game with it's collectables and challenge maps. The new game plus, upgrades, and achievements make sure that the game isn't over just because you finished the main story line. You could sink a good 15 hours in your first play through without collecting a single Riddler trophy or trying your skills in a challenge map. Expand

Wished the main story and side missions had been a bit longer too. Some of the side story villain missions seemed to cut a bit short. Also I have to say how unhappy I am with the Catwoman content unlock pass. I think that really wasn't necessary and it annoyed me a lot that I couldn't share the full content of this game with family members, or that in the future if my profile ever becomes compromised, I may not be able to access the Catwoman content at all. At the very least a PC style revoke tool should have been implemented so that we can move the content to different profiles and xboxs if we encounter problems. And don't believe it doesn't happen, my brother lost his profile to hackers and lost all of his GS and purchased DLC. But apart from that I thoroughly I enjoyed this game and would recommend it to any gamer, even if they aren't a Bats fan. Fantastic game. Congrats to the developers. Expand

Batman Arkham city is a very good game and has alot of great side missions and collectibles that will keep you busy for day's.my only complaint has to be the games end which like the first batman game was kinda lame and didn't make me feel like there was enough thought put into the closing of a great story.but this is a great game none the less.

In the end, Rocksteady did it again with the release of Arkham City. The game is beautifully impressive and the shift to the open world gameplay really makes a big difference as players can now explore and enjoy the dark streets of Gotham City. Despite the easy boss fights, the game is still phenomenal and simply the greatest Batman adventure you can imagine.

The Storyline really straightly taken from the comics so not only it would satisfy all Batman die hard fans but it also could make non-comic fans interested to follow the story because of the easy to understand story -telling style and the AWESOME yeah i say it once again AWESOME acting voice from all the cast (esp: Mark Hamil as Joker and Kevin Conroy as Batman). a lot of improvements are here and there in this game such as more famous Batman villain like Two-Face, Penguin, Mr. Freeze, etc. and for the first time since Arkham Asylum, two former Bruce Wayne's love interest make debut their debut in this game: Selena Kyle (Catwoman) and Vicky Vale. besides the main mission, u also can play a ton of side mission which available during the game (by meeting someone, a police call or a civilian who needs help). the environment and the view of Gotham City in this game are much.. much bigger, badder, better (oops i borrowed the WWE 12 tagline LOL... :D) the only minor negative thing in this game is the fighting system.. is not that bad but, it can make your hand a little stiff after the fight is over.. o yeah one more the graphic is so detail so it would make you feel that you're a Batman and you're really in Gotham City.. What really sets this appart from its predeccessor are the side missions, which feel much more like side stories, as they have you hunting down gotham criminals in episodic installments. Visuals and combat haven't changed much, but the map size and the amount of on screen enemies are very impressive. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Amazing game, with a terrific story and varied, compelling gameplay. Much more freedom than Arkham Asylum, allowing Batman to sail over the city and go pretty much anywhere. The open-world feel suits Batman's ethos to a tee, and you get the feeling you are the caped crusader himself doing his nightly rounds as you come across a poor helpless hobo being beaten up by a thug, knowing that only you can take him down.

The combat is exhilarating and you have many more options than in the previous game as to how you nail your opponents. New gadgets such as the freeze grenade and the shock gun add spice to combat, while new enemies like the armoured thugs and the shielded thugs mean you have to approach each encounter in a new way. Some of the ways in which familiar enemies were realised was refreshing and thrilling, particularly the Penguin with his 'monocle', and (to me) new characters like the Mad Hatter and Deadshot added to the richness of the backstory. After finishing the main quest and the various side quests, there are still the 400 Riddler challenges to cope with, some of which are infuriating but many of which are a pleasure to take a few minutes to take stock until you work out the solution. It's this constant change of pace and tack that makes BAC such a great game, eschewing the monotony than can so often be the problem with any game, particularly button-mashing combat game, of which it would be easy to discard BAC as one. Don't be fooled: this is a mixture of combat, stealth, detective work, puzzle solving and some lite RPG elements. Something for everyone. My only two gripes would be that (1) the main story felt as if it could have been longer, and too many crucial moments (e.g. defeating major characters) are handled by cutscene, which is no-one's idea of fun, and (2) some of the villains don't get enough screen time--Two Face in particular is mishandled (apart from a brief encounter if you play as Catwoman). I hope some DLC is released which expands the adventure and allows us to wear Batman's cape once more and kick the snot out of some bad guys.

The variation in villains in this game compared to its predecessor, Arkham Asylum, is very well thought out and they tie in with the story almost perfectly. Although people say that this is just a larger version of Arkham Asylum, I cannot disagree more. Sure, it's an open world game (almost like a sandbox style) whereas Arkham Asylum was almost on a linear, bottleneck path but Arkham City is so much more than that. There are tonnes of things to do such as its side missions that introduce some less heard of villains into the game, the Riddler challenges and even another characters ability to free roam once the story is complete. Speaking of the Riddler, no Batman game is complete without the Riddler and his challenges.
Challenges also make a return with more variation, characters and tasks to complete to earn those precious stars.
Robin also makes an appearance in the story but sadly, it's only a brief moment. A robin section in this game would make it a whole lot better and add on more precious hours of gameplay.

It improves upon the previous game immensely. the sheer size alone is aw inspiring when you first set your eyes on Arkham City it can be a tad overwhelming but the first time I grappled along the rooftops and started zipping along the city taking out thugs and finding those freaking riddlers trophies I felt right at home as Batman. The voice acting of all the major players is top notch and the story is pretty seamless and flowing. Yes you can do the plethora of side quests along side the main one but I did find myself always getting drawn back into the main story line wondering what happened next and who I would run into next. I won't spoil anything but its hard not to run into some bat villain either main stream or obscure to the bat universe. The boss fights are more varied and a much improvement over the last game and the ending just wow which is all I will say. After the game is done there was still plenty of to do and finish up. My only real criticisms of the game is are minor ones but its what keeps the game from being a 10 in my opinion. The catwoman stages are not bad but they feel a bit tacked on and detract a little bit from the main story and that last part is a giant pain in the rear. Actually most of the voice cast does a great job voicing the heroes and villains. There are some unpolished character models and areas and at times it feels like they put too many villains in for you to wrap your head around. Either way this is the best superhero game to date! Arkham City is great game, the graphics are second to none, the acting is oscar worthy, the game play is just fun. Everything that is Batman is depicted in this game and the one before it. Combat is satisfying and uniquely rhythmic, as it was in Arkham Asylum, but additional combat moves make free-flow the best melee combat gameplay in any recent game. My only other complaint is that many characters did not get the time they deserved. Expand

Batman: Arkham City is a very good game. It's not great such as a Batman: Arkham Asylum, but this sequel is maybe one of the best games of 2011.It wasn't made for money. It was made for gamers and players. I really recommend this game.

This game is great. The visuals, gameplay, story, and characters are great. I wish some of the other villains had more screen time, but it all adheres to the DC Universe quite well. I'm playing through for a second time, and I found a ton of stuff that I missed the first time. It's a linear open world, but I like games with a story to be a little bit linear. Overall great game.

Rocksteady went through a hell of a lot of work to bring this one. Batman: Arkham City is essentially Batman: Arkham Asylum on steroids, with a bigger world, side content besides picking up trophies, and an amazing story. Firstly, the game play. As with Arkham Asylum, Batman will be going from hand-to-hand combat against thugs, and criminals, and stealth based game play against armed men, both of which employ a variety of gadgets, and strategies to overcome the intimidating odds. While that was the majority of Arkham Asylum, this time around Batman has even more gadgets, and a massive open world to run around in. Before, the transitions between combat, and stealth were obvious, but Arkham City does this with smooth transitions, that unless prepared for it doesn't appear as a change at all. This serves to create a very believable environment, adding to the realistic, grittiness of the game, which is one of the reasons Arkham Asylum was so popular. As well as this, for this instalment, Batman is not the only playable character as a very attractive, and curvy Catwoman is playable for a few missions of the game, and indefinitely once the story is completed and a "free play" mode is possible. While this serves for a change in game play (slight, but still refreshing), it also serves to feed all the hormone pumped geeks, like myself, hungry for some virtual boob. The game is also stunning in the graphical, and sound department. I encountered no obvious game bugs, or glitches during my playthrough, a very shocking, and unlikely thing to occur in an open world game. The voice acting, like the the last game is spectacular with the voices from the last game such as Mark Hamill, aka Luke Skywalker the most notable, being The Joker. As well as that, there is a ton of content in the form of radio communication, and audio tapes that do nothing, but add to the amount of basis on the original Batman comics. Now with all the good there must also be some bad. Many of the added features, such as the new gadgets are unnecessary beyond the one or two puzzles they're needed for, and one can still easily make it through the game without many of the upgrades you can get. That being said however, the game does have a significant amount of upgrades for Batman, and very few for Catwoman, making it apparent that she was not put into the game beyond the occasional switch up to keep interest, and another selling point. My biggest gripe however is the addition of downloadable characters. Catwoman, Robin, and Nightwing all can be currently bought, and used in the challenge mode of the game, but that's it. Robin does make an appearance in the campaign of the game, but both him and Nightwing are only usable for a quick combat or stealth section of the challenge mode, making them again just an addition for more money to be made. This is a huge disappointment to me as I would have enjoying roaming the entirety of Arkham City as either Robin, or Nightwing, and onto that, why bother have Robin appear in the game at all if he wasn't going to do anything? But I digress, Batman: Arkham City is by far a fantastic game, and had a fantastic... well everything. A game with such a emphasis on the original comics, with such entertaining content, and riveting story make it a must buy. A well deserved 9, and indeed almost a perfect score. Expand

Not a single time I looked around and found something that I didn't like. The gameplay. A little sketchy at some points to be honest because the gadgets are sometimes a pain to get to in time of need and at certain times, overall movement isn't all that responsive. But believe me, the game makes up with everything else for these stupid little things that I'm pointing out. Through out the campaign, the game does a great job keeping you busy with secondary missions and side objectives while the game progresses. A nice way to keep you entertained without finishing the campaign in 2 - 3 days (general time I complete the base story for a game). Batman: Arkham City does a relatively good job keeping you entertained and on track with the story with the story, but I find myself walking through the same hallways over and over again during a primary objective. But like I said the game always makes up for it afterwards. Arkham City blew my mind, it's not good, it's not really good. It's amazing. It's Batman: Arkham City. Expand

Arkham Asylum was good, but in this you are the Bat! Either engaged in street level combat or soaring above the rooftops and chimneys of old Arkham City every inch of this game is perfect

Arkham Asylum is a near perfect game, the only flaw being low re-playability value. It has something to offer to every type of video game player, so if you don't already own this gem, make sure to hurry out to pick it up!

Improved gameplay, new mechanics, and an even stronger story denote whether you care about Batman or not, it's still a game worthy of your time. With some easter eggs possibly hinting at plots for a third game, let's hope Rocksteady isn't quite done with the Dark Knight.

All in all, outside of a few minor issues, I couldn't ask for a better Batman experience. If Arkham City was a graphic novel, it would be considered a classic.
