  1. You’d be extremely hard-pressed to find a more complete tennis package on Wii – Virtua Tennis 2009’s offline and online career modes offer the most engaging representations of the sport on any console.
  2. What Virtua Tennis lacks in panache or style, it makes up for with substance, including a comprehensive World Tour mode and the best tennis controls on Wii. [July 2009, p.62]

A quite good tennis game. The MotionPlus-support makes all the difference. Without it the game feels clumsy ja awkward. What's with the constant and annoying MotionPlus-activation, though? [July 2009]
  4. It’s a solid step up from what’s been on the Wii so far, and it’s addictive enough that we kept playing well past the point where our arms got sore.
  5. The best version released this year. Wii MotionPlus turns this game from average to excellent.

Virtual Tennis 2009 is definitely a more detailed experience than what we’ve seen in Wii Sports.

A beast of a tennis game, with MotionPlus support and more options than you'll ever use. [Aug 2009, p.79]
  8. Virtua Tennis is easily one of the better tennis games on the Wii right now.

It's not the prettiest looking game, and it does have some minor issues, but the motion controls make all the difference, they do take a bit of getting used to, but once you get the hang of them it really makes it feel authentic.
  10. A really good tennis game, primarily due to its variety of satisfying game modes. Unfortunately, the game is weighed down by several glaring flaws.
  11. Virtua Tennis 2009 is probably the best tennis game on the Wii.
  12. As a first attempt at Wii MotionPlus controls this is a decent effort, but it's not quite the definitive article. [July 2009, p.88]

If you’re looking for the definitive version of Virtua Tennis 2009, look no further. The Wii affords players the best tennis action around, despite lacking game design and aesthetics.
  14. Without any doubt, the Wii version of Virtua Tennis 2009 bests its Xbox 360/PS3 counterparts The lacking visuals and sound may be a disappointment, but the awesome online and intuitive controls make this well worth it for any fan of the sport.

The controls of this game are working well, although at first you have to practice a little. Wii MotionPlus is supported but the difference isn't groundbreaking. Fortunately Virtua Tennis 2009 from itself is already a strong game.
  16. 75
In conclusion, Virtua Tennis 2009 shows up as what it is, without experiments in its gameplay. It just modifies the control to adapt itself to Nintendo's machine, and makes use of the Wii MotionPlus to optimize its control.

A good tennis game for the Wii. However, I can't say that I got super-excited from the gameplay.

Awful. Do not buy. The graphics are pretty poor. There are frame rate issues which make it difficult to play when using Motion Plus, which is Awful. Do not buy. The graphics are pretty poor. There are frame rate issues which make it difficult to play when using Motion Plus, which is surprising because it's not a pretty game. Animations seem to bear little resemblance to the shot actually being played. The game itself is rather shallow, offering little beyond what you'd get playing Wii Sports Tennis. Motion Plus certainly doesn't help, since what your player does seems bizarrely disconnected from your actual motions - to aim your shots you sometimes have to swing well before the ball even reaches you, and it just feels really strange when you swing and then sit and wait for a second before anything happens. Also, as mentioned, the stuttering frame rate can make it difficult to time shots properly when using Motion Plus. Full Review »
