The Wii control additions really do add to the experience and the game looks pretty good, too. The end product is not exemplary, but it is a step in the right direction and it's also entertaining, particularly when you're jumping from ledge to ledge or swinging across chasms to the beat of moody music.
-
Lara Croft's transition to the Wii is not an entirely smooth one.
-
Now that it has moved to the Wii, however, Tomb Raider: Anniversary's magic has been lost due to crappy waggle controls. Although some of the Wii exclusive puzzles are mildly enjoyable, aiming and shaking the nunchuck leads to imprecise movements and lots of headaches.
-
Nintendo PowerThere are also framerate and hit-detection issues (both in catching ledges and in targeting enemies) that just shouldn't exist. [Holiday 2007, p.82]
-
In many ways, the controls are dead-on, but the awkward shooting controls hamstring the action.
-
With improved graphics, solid sound and pretty good gameplay, the new control and re-imagined levels make for a game that is much more superior from the original.
-
The real lesson here is that if you can take out one of her twin sisters for this Anniversary date on another platform, then that's the route to go. Otherwise, while it remains a grand adventure, traveling by Wii makes it a bumpier ride.
-
The game still provides a compelling adventure, albeit a frustrating one. The camera and aiming are deplorable, but after some time it is manageable.
-
Tomb Raider: Anniversary is the video game equivalent of giving your old car a new paint job and a spoiler and claiming it's as good as new. The combination of the dated Tomb Raider areas, mixed with the uninspiring and boring Tomb Raider: Anniversary alone, feels like a patch job, and the addition of the Wii elements to the original versions of Tomb Raider: Anniversary only serves to increase the feeling that most of this game is just new elements stapled haphazardly onto a prettier version of a 10-year-old game.
-
BoomtownIt’s not a perfect port, however, but much like my breakfast this morning it’s still good enough to keep you planted on the sofa for a few hours and bask in its goodness.
-
Tomb Raider Anniversary is still a great game. However, the Wii version is by far the worst version of that great game
-
Those expecting a more action heavy experience will feel a little let down, but as a puzzle heavy action game, Lara can more than hold her own.
