An outstanding game that can be played in a more linear fashion or allows for exploration. The only minor complaint I have is that the use of the Wii remote doesn't really translate into the kind of swordplay you'd expect.

Its a fantastic game, but it doesn't have the same amazing feel that OoT and Majora's Mask have. I go back and play those games and I get goose bumps they are so good. I don't think another game that good will ever come along, but then again, maybe its just cause I'm not playing the game as a 9 year old...

The game is stunning and the play smooth A must for all Zelda fans. Gave it a 9 because it seem overall too easy. The time spent in between dungeons was way to short. Wish there were more games and prizes to win. Exploring seemed not as necessary or a waste of time compared to previous Zeldas. There was also nothing to waste rupees on buying. Ruppee collection was way to easy.

As I was nearing the end of this game I was debating with myself whether the problems were significant enough to mark it down to a nine instead of a ten. There are many moments when it really feels like a ten out of ten game. In fact, certain moments feel like the best game you've ever played. However, in the end I decided that I had to acknowledge the flaws, however much my heart wanted to ignore them. I had more camera problems in this than in previous 3D Zelda games. Not loads, but when they happened they were very annoying. A lot of side quests and diversions reward you with money, which is pretty useless in this game as there's little to buy. There are some parts where it feels like you are forced to go backwards and forwards on a fetch-and-carry quest simply to extend the game's (already more than long enough) play time. The difficulty is pitched as low as I can remember in any Zelda game, it's really quite easy, but because it is very long it sometimes feels like an endurance test more than a skill test. And for most of the game there's a feeling of "Oh, that bit's nearly as good as [some previous Zelda game]." The music is great but not quite Zelda at its best. The dungeons are great but not quite Zelda at its best. The environments are great but not quite Zelda at its best. The side quests are great but not quite Zelda at its best. There's a feeling hanging over the whole game that most aspects are just one step behind whichever Zelda game realised that aspect the best. So, it's not the best Zelda game ever. It is, however, a phenomenal game by any normal measure. The graphics... oh, the graphics... I can't believe that some people are criticizing it as being "not next-gen enough". The fact is that Wii is not "next-gen", it's a GameCube with more memory. This game is proof that that is enough. It has more beauty in one frame of cut-scene than most games ever achieve in their whole lifetime. The art design is simply stunning and the game looks absolutely gorgeous almost all of the time. The boss and set-piece design are also amazing. It has the best selection of bosses I can remember for a long time, often huge and very dramatic as bosses should be. None of them are particularly hard but they are so varied and interesting they are well worth the time it takes to reach them. This game could teach Gears of War a few things about scale and variety. The controls also work well. There are moments of frustration but generally everything feels natural. Combat works really well, apart from one or two of the "hidden skills" that you learn being a bit awkward. Long-range targeting no longer needs an artificial wobble because you have your own wavering hand to worry about - when you have to shoot an arrow through a wooden pole several hundred metres away you'll see what I mean. Overall then, it's fantastic. It's slightly short of being the best game in the series but that's like saying that Madonna of the Rocks is not Da Vinci's most interesting painting. Expand

If you come along with the control scheme (it took me an hour), it is a great gaming experience. In comparison to WW and especially OOT (beneath RE4 the only game i would give a 10) there is a huge lack of freedom, which I really missed. Nevertheless it is a masterpiece and a must-buy for wii-players.

A dazzling game. smooth controls and so far a great story line. Graphics are a repackaged gamecube but a true gamer looks for substance... not graphics. Much smoother than any of it's predecessors but a true homage to both Windwaker and Ocarina.

I loved the game and I wuz playin it fur like 4 hours a day. The game had a slow start but it gets a lot better towards the end. To beat the game you would need a guide to help you as you play which I found out about in the middle. The boss battles could be a bit harder too like the battle against Ganandorf which I beat in about 5 minutes. It is the best Zelda game yet.

As it is Twilight Princess is a good game. It's lengthy and appealing. The reason it gets a 9 though it's it's a direct homage and love letter to Ocarina of Time. There's too much been there done that. It relies heavily on the fact of whether you played Ocarina or not. It's still a great game but, not worth playing more than once.

I had no problem with the lack of voice acting however, seeing it more as a stylistic choice by Nintendo. I would call this an excellent game, but not quite a proper "next generation" Zelda game. It's got some of the best, coolest and weirdest dungeons in the series I've seen thus far, like for instance one isn't really a dungeon, but a mansion with a friendly yeti family living inside it! Also half way through the dungeon, before you can get the dungeon item, you fight a mini boss, which is a lot of fun to do. The bosses in the game are really cool but also dark and creepy fitting the darker setting excellently, but I found them to be shockingly easy to beat, the only tough one being the final (four part) boss battle, let's put it this way the mini bosses are more difficult to beat then the main bosses. You also get some really cool sections where you can transform into a wolf. The puzzles are as always fantastic, and I found the game almost impossible to put down. This game is also massive, it has a huge world to explore filled with side quests, hidden secrets, and treasure just waiting for you to sink your teeth into, I played it for roughly 36-40 hours and still could go back and find stuff to do. As this is the Wii version it also uses motion controls, aiming with the Wii remote never felt better, and combat is also more fun even if it is just controller waggling XD. And it's a completely mirrored port of the GameCube version, so there's a reason for GameCube owners to test this version out. The soundtrack is fantastic although it's not as great as other Zelda game's. the graphics are awesome most of the time, with fantastic character animations and beautiful locations, but sometimes you looking at dated and bland textures or blurriness. In closing it's a Zelda game so obviously it's fantastic. It's story and setting will suck you in like no other game in the series, and the gameplay has some great new additions. It's just a fantastic game that I recommend to any and all gamers. A must play. Expand

    Graphics (8/10)
The graphics were, and to this day; probably the best graphics in a wii game of all time. The textures are sharp, the polygons are plentiful and lighting is accurate. Although the bloom sometimes make it TOO soft; blending foreground objects with background objects.
    Gameplay (9/10)
There are many chests of goodies to find around the game, many tools that are gained throughout the story, and the wii-pointer controls bring a perspective of accuracy no other game can accomplish. The only problem is that you have to swing the wii remote in order to do attacks with the sword; which i think makes the combat a bit clumsy.

It was bewildering to see the world of Hyrule in a different light. The story progresses nicely, there is plenty to do and explore but not an insurmountable amount of item gathering, which is good for my tastes. It is decent in length especially if you try to get 100% and it does boast some challenging levels. To me this was the best Zelda game in the series. The task of getting the master sword was so awesome and unique, it was a lot better than just walking into the temple of time and removing it from the pedestal. The art style is one of my favorites, but what kept this game from receiving a 10 was that it was ported from the GCN and the graphics weren't what they could have been.

The story in Twilight Princess is epic as hell, again revealing a darker side to the series. If I could give this game somewhere between a 9 and 10 on metacritic, I would but I can't so, I will settle for the lesser of the scores, because again the game, at least for me is not considered a masterpiece, but is an amazing experience. People love to complain about the simple score and lack of voice acting, but to be honest, it wouldn't be Zelda with voice acting, and as long as the music is well written it doesn't matter what instrument is playing it. There are several instances, especially outside of the dungeons where I got stuck, and I even put the game down for awhile, but trust me it is worth looking on the internet for help in these instances because there is so much great content, beautiful environments, and expertly designed puzzles in the game to pass it up. I recommend any version of this game to literally anyone.

Nearly every reward was rupees and there wasn't much interesting you could do with all your rupees. My wallet was constantly full. Big landscapes with little secrets, just some treasures with worthless rupees. With that said the rest is all wonderfull, awesome and thrilling. Definatly the most epic Zelda experience I've had. They didn't offer a lot new to the game except the wolf aspect, which wasn't really special. They played it safe and made it a traditional Zelda, which is fine with me. But it won't go down as the best Zelda ever. It's still the best game for the Wii though. 9/10 Expand

The story is a bit dicey in places but still holds together well with its other elements and doesn't seem to sour the experience at all.

It's good because the game is near perfection, with no aspect lagging (except for the music, which only has 2 or 3 good tracks). It's bad because the game doesn't feel very different. The graphics are, in my opinion, rather bland as compared to other games, such as the gorgeous Wind Waker. They attempt to make the graphical style very dark in order to add to the whole twilight concept of the game, however it feels more boring than it is dark. Take for example Majora's Mask, a game that had a very dark plot while having great multicolored graphics. Twilight Princess attempts this same darkness, but seems to fail.
This game is near perfect, and in my opinion it may just be better than Ocarina of Time from a technical and formulaic standpoint. However, it's lack of creativity and ambition seems to hold it back.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Twilight Princess is an amazing game. It has a couple flaws, but it's still fantastic. It won't last you thousands of hours like Skyrim or something like that will, but it still takes an easy twenty hours to beat, and that's without going after any of the Poes or Heart Pieces. The gameplay is solid; there are no bugs or glitches to be found anywhere (without seriously digging for them). The swordplay is a lot of fun, especially once you start finding skills. Every item maintains some purpose throughout the game (except the slingshot). The music will get stuck in your head; it's pretty good for being synthetic. The story is easy to follow and will capture your interest. There's a pretty large world to explore, and you have a variety of ways to do it, from horse-riding to boar-riding (if you can steal one) to teleporting around. The environments are diverse, and so are the dungeons.

Definitely the best part about the game is the combat. In essence, it's the same Zelda combat you're used to in a 3-D Zelda game. It is focused around targeting your opponent and figuring out some way to bypass their defenses. However, unlike other Zelda games, the swordplay is a lot more diverse. Ocarina and Majora's Mask had the jump attack and all the basic stuff. Wind Waker had the parry. Twilight Princess has many different sword techniques you gain throughout the game, which really make the combat diverse and entertaining.

There are two major flaws, though (major being a relative term... there's not that much wrong with the game at all). First of all, there's hardly anything to spend your Rupees on once you've gotten the Magic Armor. That armor will slowly consume your Rupees while you're wearing it, but unless you really feel like cheating through the game and have serious trouble beating the enemies, you probably don't want to wear that too much. This issue is magnified by the facts that you have a limit to the amount of Rupees you can hold based on wallet size (unlike the DS games, where you can have something like 9999 as your limit from the start), and that it's so easy to get money in this game! Small Rupee quantities drop from monsters very frequently, which isn't a really big deal. However, just about every bonus chest you find has Rupees in it, ranging from yellow to silver. Most commonly, though, you get purple Rupees from chests, which are worth 50. You start with a limit of 300, I believe. Find 6 chests... well, you can't get any more money. Arrows are too easy to get to make them worth buying. Bombs are more scarce but you still probably won't need to buy them very often. Potions aren't worth the cash, when you only have a few bottles and you can just kill a Chu to get them anyway. You'll end up wealthy as can be very quickly with nothing to buy (what a quandary!).

The other main issue is that the game is just too easy. That's in comparison to other Zelda/Nintendo games mainly, which can be notoriously difficult, so if you're coming from other games on other systems, you might not feel the same way. Nonetheless, I finished playing this game through for about the third time in five years today. I didn't die once. I was careless with the final boss and had to use a fairy, but overall I burned through the game without running into much trouble at all. Even the puzzles are pretty simple. If you're like me, and you manage to walk past something ridiculously obvious ten times, you might have trouble occasionally, but compared to other Zelda games, Twilight Princess is a walk in the park. The bosses are epic but some are just so simple... If you're careful, and you know what you're doing, you'll finish this game without much challenge at all.

That being said, I have finished this game like three times now. I don't replay games that often. This one is a lot of fun for me to play it so many times. I definitely recommend it.

This story was great! However it was maybe trying a little too hard to be dark at times even the atmosphere is dark enough to the point where it may even be a bit unsettling. I like the wide open space in this game and the many different locations, this is definitely one of the most elaborate worlds seen in a Zelda game which could also be a problem because of all the walking; of course you do have Epona, but she isn't much help until later on in the game; so I think that if this wide open space is ever used again, There should either be more things to do out on the field or there should be faster transportation from the get-go or both. The graphics are also pretty good, they are nicely done to look more realistic, but I really don't mind cartoonish looks like what they had in The Wind Waker. This game also had some really epic moments like the final battle and even some battles between tons of enemies; sure a lot of it felt like fan service which could either be a good or bad thing but it was cool. The dungeons were also cool, especially Arbiter's Grounds, the only problem this game had with these that isn't really found in other Zeldas is the items are not used much after being used in their founding dungeon; for example it was fun using the Spinner in Arbiter's Grounds, but after that dungeon you literally only use that item again like about 3 or 4 more times or so. Despite me pointing out all these problems I highly recommend TP, you can get it now on Wii and GameCube (keep in mind that the Wii version is a little more common). Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Although this is one of my absolute favorite Zelda games I can't give it a 10. The story fits in beautifully after Majora's Mask, the graphics and music is absolutely amazing. I love the twists and turns throughout the story, the villains, and how you finally, FINALLY get to sword fight Gannondorf. Even your guide/assistant (Midna) is enjoyable because you get to know the backstory of her and her people (Personal Theory: Her people are the ones who made Majora's Mask). I enjoy the twilight realm and how you can turn into a beast....the bosses are fun and the temples are interesting BUT as much as I love this game there are still a few problems.

My biggest problem with this game on the Wii.... Link is RIGHT handed. No joke, LINK.... notoriously and ALWAYS LEFT handed before, is now RIGHT handed. Continuity issue! Sure, I understand why they did it with the wii-mote controls and such (you swing the wii-mote to swing the sword and most people are right handed and it would be weird to be cross swinging on the screen) but still. I think it's kinda cool how they utilized the wii-mote in aiming your arrows, swinging the sword, etc but the issue is still present and as a major Zelda fan and it irks me to no end and is the main reason I can't give this a 10.
Secondly, what the hell is up with Gannon? He looks like an old man in curlers.... they should have kept the design and improved the graphics from OoT's Gannon.
Thirdly, the fight with Zant is just... bad. He's intimidating up until you fight him and after you do or in any replays of the game you can't take him seriously anymore because he fights like he's having a little temper-tantrum.
Fourthly- For a Zelda game, it is a bit on the easy side (not that it really takes away from it and is a great way to introduce new players to the franchise) and sadly, being on the wii, it doesn't have HD capabilities meaning there are some jagged edges and blurriness but even so, it still looks nice and is still improved from the N64 graphics by a lot
Finally- the ending makes Link seem kinda retarded with what Midna (almost) says to him. I REALLY am hoping for Midna to return in another Zelda game... a sequel to Twilight Princess story wise keeping the same (or better) graphics and music etc.

I still love this game though, even on the wii it's amazing...story, music, graphics, gameplay, it's all there and fantastic and solid.

But it doesn't really matter, because you can learn advance sword techniques to mix up the combat, although the actual gestures can be tricky to pull off due to controls, and it would have been nice to have an option to play it with the classic pro, or GameCube controller would be nice. Its also a darker tone than other Zelda games. The cinematics are epic, but creepy, and they leave you feeling hopeless, and its sort of touching. Some of the characters aren't handled well, like Zant, Ganon, Ilia, and Zelda, and it would have been nice to have voice acting, and better facial animations, but its not a big deal. Lastly, the dungeons and items are fantastic. Seriously, these puzzles are great and the bosses are amazing, if easy. Its unfortunate that the Spinner, Ball and Chain, and Dominion rod aren't worth poop out of their dungeons, but it's, yet again, not a big problem. A truly epic Zelda game, and the best I've played. So first technically, as a Wii launch game the graphics are good, it's nothing a PS2 couldn't do (some games did look better) but with very good animations I was truly impressed by how the wolf and the horse movements were that realist. However there is also some big framerate drops when you fight a large number of enemies, so globally the game is far from perfect.

Gameplay wise the motion controls are not perfect either and it is not always easy to do the combo you were wishing for. That's the last bad thing I will say about the game because everything else is awesome, the game design is pure genius with a model of learning curb (it starts easy and gets more and more difficult), great puzzles, perfect pace for introducing new items, etc.

Concerning the story it is pretty good, even if predictable, personally I think the game could use voice overs (except Link of course where you have the power to imagine what you would have said in its place), but that's an artistic choice and I can respect that, the whole universe of the game is so wonderful, you can only wish to go to Hyrule after that. The game should last between 35 and 40 hours to finish it at 100%.

In conclusion Twilight Princess came close to be a master piece but unfortunately some defaults (most links to the hardware), I still advise the game for every one but if you have a Wii U take the remaster version the gamepad is a better way to play the game and the graphics are better.

While playing the game, it seems to follow a much darker and edgy version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which how can you not love that?

When starting the game, the requirement of the Wii Remote and Nunchuck was a bit of a disappointment since i have the classic pro controller, but the controls were not quite as bad as i would of expected. Controls overall feel great, both in your human form and wolf form. There are a few minigames like the one on a snowboard where controls feel wonky and you can easily make a small turn and end up hitting the way. Swimming feels weird, when wearing the Hero's Tunic A is to "sprint" or swim faster, but wearing to Zora's Tunic A is to dive. I found out multiple times that I'm just trying to swim faster and i will accidentally dive when I didn't mean to. Once you get used to it, it isn't too bad. Overall the controls with the Wii Remote and Nunchuck aren't all bad, i just wish support for the classic pro controller was added.

Storywise it was fantastic. I was so hooked. My first playthou was over 40 hours without even doing the side quests or collecting heart pieces. The shear amount of dungeons and content actually surprised me since i had just finished Wind Waker HD and it felt a bit...empty? Going though some of the dungeons and hearing some of that Ocarina of Time blew my mind. All the new music is also very good used throughout the dungeons. You spend a lot of time building up and devolping around Zant, i wish they had give you a bit more time and development with Ganondorf, the final confrontation, while good, felt a bit rushed. Overall the new twilight realm felt amazing. Going between the light and dark world was awesome. Even the ending felt awesome, and sad at the same time.

Overall this is a great addition to the Zelda library. 9/10

Incredible game. Even though I prefer the brighter art styles of other zelda games such an Wind Waker and Skyward Sword this game is still incredibe to play. The only thing is sometimes it can get a little to dark and not have enough color

The addition of Midna as Links companion in the game allows for some additional comical and emotional elements to the game allowing for a more immersive experience. As far as innovative new weapons go twilight princess does offer some strange new items, one of which allows link to move along the walls, however unfortunately aside from that the game just reuses old ideas. gameplay much reflects much reflects the traditional style of previous games which is not a bad thing however the addition of Midna allows for a wonderful new ability allowing you to attack multiple enemies at once hic comes in really useful, however this ability is only available to Link in wolf form. A downside to this game is the level of difficulty, which has been considerably watered down since the N64 era and that is why for me Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and A Link to the past still out shine this chapter but that is not to take away this games right to claim itself as Wii's best Zelda title as it is still miles better that Skyward Sword and absolutely one of Wii's All time top 3 titles. If you have never played this game then what are you waiting for. Expand

This game takes elements that worked from Ocarina of Time but improves upon them, offering nine unique dungeons, excellent music, and polished gameplay. It’s fairly familiar (you’ll get a bow and arrow, traverse puzzle-filled dungeons, etc.) but adds enough to feel unique and fresh ( you’ll get a the ball and chain, for example). Also, many of the characters you meet are pretty memorable. It's not perfect, to be sure, but its quality elements described add up to one amazing adventure game. Expand

One of the best games on Nintendo Wii, and greatest launch title Nintendo as ever produced.
World is quite similar to Ocarina of Time, expansive and glamorous.
Art style is excellent too, some kind of gothic fantastic art style with stunning graphics for its age Story is decent, but come on, Zelda never did appeal for it, Zelda appeal is for gameplay (here gameplay is better than ever)

Only thing i did not like was difficulty.
This game was extremely easy. I would say it was too easy I only died on the final boss.
Anyway, this game is the best expression of classic Zelda since Ocarina of Time, and a must have for any Wii owners

Don't give a darn for the nay-sayers; Twilight Princess' graphics are still very enjoyable, its soundtrack immortal, and the sections controlling regular Link exhibit the olden formula at its best. Plodding wolf sections and occasionally archaic puzzles are more of a hindrance in multiple playthroughs, however.

One of the best games on the Zelda universe. The story and the characters are well done. The mechanics of the game with the Wiimote are undoubtedly spectacular, perhaps my only problem is with fishing, which can be somewhat annoying with the Wiimote.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I must have played this game at least five times through. I... loved this game. I loved the puzzles I loved the portrayal of Link, the new character of Midna, and Zelda. I'll start off with the game play. Fights felt fluid, not clunky and the new use of the Wii remote was well incorporated into the game. Although a little difficult with the claw shot and sometimes bow it was very fluid to use and it felt like your fault when you messed up not the games. Boss battles, some being easier and some being harder, every boss battle was very well suited to it's environment along with having good value in killing them as they all felt related to the story in some way, the two essential aspects in bosses. With them getting gradually harder they also looked stunning for their time. The graphics of this game are gorgeous, especially in the new remastered HD version. The small battles with little adds in the wilderness are fluid, great to use abilities which you find throughout the game and test them out before you face a boss. Moreover, there are not one, but two arch-villains. Ganandorf is in no way portrayed as being less menacing and the final boss fight with him... is definitely one to remember. The two villains of this game without spoiling do not feel annoying but you love to hate them. They are extremely well written and incorporated into the game perfectly. The story itself is a new and freshly written aspect of twilight princess and I found myself falling in love with the characters. Moreover, the sounds of this game are pitch... perfect. I found myself in recent time feeling waves of nostalgia fall over me when hearing the noises and or sound tracks of this game. Apart from ocarina of time, the open world was more engaging and had more in it, more places to go. Although the twilight stages are perhaps my least favorite parts of this game the ability to turn into a wolf whenever you want was also, a very welcome aspect to the Zelda franchise. This game will go down as one of the greatest games of Zelda, and of games of all time. I absolutely loved the entire game beginning to end, replay-ability, graphics, characters, and small RPG aspects make an almost perfect game. A masterpiece of modern game design. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Although this game wasn't as great as the game that it draws so much inspiration from (which is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time), The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is an incredible game. Midna, Link's partner that accompanies him throughout his journey, is my most favorite companion of all of them; she's witty and quick to respond, providing a realistic personality that warms up to Link over time. The combat is very responsive and feels so good due to how the sounds and vibrations resound from the Wii Remote, making you feel like you're Link, immersing you further into one of the best stories in any form of media. Also, the ending is spectacular; a one-on-one sword fight with Ganondorf was exactly what I'd been waiting for in the The Legend of Zelda series, satisfying a want to personal stick it to Ganondorf and trump him. I do have a complaint about the second phase, though; Ganon becomes slightly boring once you need to wrestle him into the ground in your wolf form, making it feel like it drags on for ever. Overall, I feel like this is one of the best The Legend of Zelda game of all time, if not one of the best three-dimensional games ever. Expand

It compiles almost everything we love : an incredible original soundtrack, a great semi-open world, some collectibles, an impressive difficulty curve, the constant feeling of progression, a cool lore, a deep scenario, lovable characters, multiples gadgets and weapons and an profound universe. Of course it also had major flaws like the infamous water temple (yeah, that temple everyone hates), some rigid controls, some hardcore (almost impossible without hints) puzzles and ways to make events trigger. The game also requires an impressive amount of time to complete some ridiculous missions or even if you want to achieve it 100%.

The graphics and colours were okay even if top notch for the Wii console. Opponents were varied, boss fights were as epic and challenging as usual. The alternance between 'day' and 'night' worlds is gorgeous and totally matches the universe of the game.

I played this game a while ago, but quit when I couldn't advance in the story. I picked it back up a few years later, and I am SO happy I did. An excellent addition (and homage to "Ocarina") to the franchise, and you'll have an enormous amount of fun playing it from start to finish. Get over the fact that the Wii's hardware is simply not as powerful as the other next-gen machines and get into the fact that Twilight Princess is one of the best games you'll play this year.
  2. It truly is, in my opinion, the best and longest Zelda ever made. With nearly 70 hours of playtime committed and more still to do, I cant think of a better experience or value this holiday season.

Truly fantastic. It's not a reinvention of the genre like Ocarina was -- but it's much better, because it takes all its predecessors' raw ideas, perfects them, and creates an experience that's at once new and familiar. It's rare to find a launch game that truly justifies the purchase of a new console, but this is precisely that.
