What the **** is wrong with people giving a masterpiece below 8?! This game is just the best game ever!! The gameplay uses traditional 3D epicness! Is just SM64 in space! And it fits like bread with butter! The graphics are flashy and colorful(just like most Mario games). Some classic Mario tunes are back and the music is just great. This game is not great! THIS GAME IS MASTERFUL! A PERFECT 10!

Brilliant track. And that's not all, there are many other fine tunes. I must admit, for a Wii game, it's looks fabulous. Most games on the Wii don't show the graphical power like this. The only flaws are it's too short, easy and a hollow storyline. Still, that doesn't really affect it. Get it. Expand

Kids, this is really one of the bestest games. Lots of fun here!

The games starts with a beautiful cut-scene with no voice acting and SPACESHIPS. Big improvement from that sunshine game amirite? The graphics are also great with lots of variety: space, space, and moar! Music is the good. Level design is the greatest. It like Mario 64 on a LINEAR PATH! GENIUS! Its also very hard.

Level design is the greatest. It like Mario 64 on a LINEAR PATH! GENIUS! Its also very hard. Sometimes, its so hard that I could swear it wasn't my fault that I went into that black hole (NOT BOTTOMLESS PITS). Gravity iz also a fun. Theres only so many uses of it and this game haz the MAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Control and camera are OUT OF TEH WORLDS. So much it's almost like I'm not even controlling Moreo at all! Control haz the everything. Momentum based long-jumps from 64, SUPER spin detection, complete camera control, AND YOU HAZ DAT JUMP!

There is nothing wrong with this game at all. Great gameplay, great instruction booklet.

This game is strictly mediocre. While it is okay for a while, it suffers from several large problems. While it is okay for a while, it suffers from several large problems. The biggest problem is that, while it is a 3D platformer, it lacks exploration - the game is extremely linear, and most levels have to be completed in a single way. Worse, this game is inferior to previous titles in the series - Mario 64 had a lot of exploration in it, but this game lacks that exploration aspect. You can't randomly go for other stars, and the stars aren't clever in any way. The worlds are sadly less interesting than the Mario 64 equivalents.

The much-vaunted planetary aspect SEEMS like it would be cool, but it almost always is actually a total letdown - almost all the planets with their gravity are lame, and only in a few places in the game can you actually do cool things with them, and I strongly suspect the team actually never intended for me to be able to do what is ACTUALLY fun with the gravity.

The game is also extremely easy - many modern games are very easy, but this game is exceedingly so. Bafflingly, it still has a lives system, despite the fact that it is utterly irrelevant - you have effectively infinite lives, and yet they remain in the game for no good reason. Moreover, it is so easy you are never going to game over.

The central staging area is also less enjoyable than what has been present in other games - in this game, the central staging area is like the levels, boring. In Mario 64, the castle was an interesting place to explore in its own right, being its own "level" of sorts with its own secrets, but the spaceship is just a boring place without interesting places to put its levels, and you progress through it in a very linear and not very interesting fashion.

Perhaps the biggest letdown is the repetitive worlds - there is one world which shows up twice, and it was only okay the first time. The second time, it is simply tedious and uninteresting. Other sections of the game are a bit overly repetitive as well.

While there are some fun areas in the game, most of it is just boring and not clever, and the game is actually worse than Mario 64, a game a decade older in the same series.

This game is greatly overrated. I'd recommend against purchasing it.

I'm gonna tell you this right now; everyone who gives a note that is less than 8/10 should not be playing video games, because they don't play games for fun. You see, Super Mario Galaxy is a Mario game. Mario games are made to be fun, and this one sets the proportions of fun to a whole new level. You see, Super Mario Galaxy is a Mario game. Mario games are made to be fun, and this one sets the proportions of fun to a whole new level. Let's just start off with the gameplay; Being the best feature of Super Mario Galaxy, it shows simple, yet perfectly responsitive controls. There are even hidden moves which can be useful for the hardcore players out there. Then, there's the graphics, which are absolutely insane beyond belief. I never expected a Mario game to look so good AND have a perfect, 60 frame per second graphical orgasm for the Wii. What about the music? A perfect balance between completely new orchestrated songs and old-school synthetised remixes of old Mario songs. Let's not forget the 120 stars to collect with Mario, THEN the same 120 stars to collect again, but this time with Luigi, which makes the game harder as he slides easily if you let him go. Mario hasn't powerful guns and do not live in a robotic environment in the future. Why do Mario is more popular and well-known than Ratchet or Clank? Wait... it's because everybody loved at least one game from him! The ambiance is quite better too. Just passed away the story of Rosalina and transform Lumas into Violent robots and maybe you'll be satisfied. My cousin got Ratchet n' Clank, he's a real fan of that and he only had Sony stuff. I made him play Super Mario Galaxy and then he loves this game as much as Ratchet! And it's not the same thing than Ratchet... Less elements have been taken from Ratchet. This is what only a few games can achieve, and the mediocre disney- type fooling around Ratchet & Clank is really not among those, even it is basically a "good" game. What's I'm not sure why but I REALLY found it hard to get enjoyment out of this game, a lot of aspects just stopped me. First the mediocre gameplay is what got me, I experienced severe cases of boredom doing silly tasks such as launching yourself onto planets or flinging yourself towards shiny objects, while interactive, it is hard to find enjoyment out of tasks you are doing. What's worse is these tasks become repetitive over time, it's basically the same thing. You often have to re-visit annoying planets to perform different tasks. The action in this game is fairly basic, honestly I can't see much difference from 64 and Sunshine, maybe a less annoying combat system, instead of spin and crush have something unique, Mario is being re-used in the same way he just jumps on things. This isn't a big problem, the main aspect of this game is platforming, and the controls are sensitive, one wrong move and you've missed your target completely, this will happen countless times because the controls are messed up pretty bad. Now sometimes a good story can drive pretty mediocre gameplay, but sadly no, Galaxy is as every Mario game has been: Save the Princess. This lackluster creativity for a story is what makes the game worse. Most things in this game are pretty childish. There was some enjoyment but I was forcing myself through the game to see if it would improve. Mario Galaxy has to be one of the most overrated games in history, while most people give it perfect scores, they ignore the basic problems of this game, how it is just Mario 64 with space themes, how the controls fail or how the levels become tedious. People also forget Ratchet and Clank has used alot of the formulas that Nintendo have implemented in this game and Ratchet and Clank remains the superior title, mainly because you play as characters you actually like and it has a story that isn't for 6 year olds. When it comes to platforming, stick to some Naughty Dog titles and DON'T follow the reviews. There is no guaranteed enjoyment in this game. Only if you are a die hard SM64 fan that wants to see the same stuff re-used. Expand

Mario 64 had awesome powerups, worlds that were incredible and unique (the clock world, the cavern world, the big and small world...) and exploring these areas was half the fun. Galaxy almost entirely strips away the fun of exploration. Everything about this game is so straightforward. Nearly every power up is only placed under certain circumstances to be used in a certain way. To give an example, you'll only get the fireflower (yeah the brought it back, but it sucks) when you need to burn a couple of torches. You'll only get the spring suit when you must bounce to higher areas. Gone are the days when you could get a flying cap to sail around the stage, or a fireflower to just burn some enemies. The worlds are also not nearly as immersive, partially do to the linear gameply, but can also be attributed to the fact that most of them can be entirely walked around in a minute. They're that small, and lack cohesion as many of the worlds are actually a series of smaller planets. Expand

While a solid 3D platformer overall, in many ways I felt this was inferior to Super Mario 64, and, let's face it, it really IS Super Mario 64 with a new coat of paint, new levels, and a few other things. Like Super Mario 64, you run around 3D worlds looking for stars. Unlike Super Mario 64, there isn't much "looking" - where the stars are is obvious, and the levels are far, far While a solid 3D platformer overall, in many ways I felt this was inferior to Super Mario 64, and, let's face it, it really IS Super Mario 64 with a new coat of paint, new levels, and a few other things. Like Super Mario 64, you run around 3D worlds looking for stars. Unlike Super Mario 64, there isn't much "looking" - where the stars are is obvious, and the levels are far, far more linear than those of its predecessor. This is a major strike against the game, as part of the fun of Super Mario 64 was the exploration. While it was neat how much the levels changed, it really wasn't neat how linear the levels were, and the "hidden stars" were not hidden at all, save in the sense of not being able to look at them on the initial screen (which was, in fact, worse than Super Mario 64, where the title of each star would give you a hint as to where it was - in this game, they show you, but they won't show you some stars, both destroying the mystery AND upping the annoyance factor... well, it would, if the stars weren't really obvious, anyway). The loss of the castle was the biggest bit of lameness - the central staging area to go to the worlds was very lame, as there were no stars hidden there at all, unlike the very cool castle from Super Mario 64. The other issues with this game were its controls and its camera. The controls were pretty similar to those of Super Mario 64, and were mostly fine. The exception, however, came in conjunction with the camera. Down should be down, and yet, oftentimes, you are walking on the walls or ceiling relative to the camera, as well as in various other awkward positions. This is incredibly annoying, as suddenly your controls are reversed or otherwise strange. If you're running around a round planet, how about having the camera follow me? The loss of camera control in many sections of the game is also annoying. The biggest upside of the game were the comets - they put a twist on the worlds. Unfortunately, many of these were just repeats. Overall, the game had a lot of repetitive elements in it - one world is just a mirrored, palette-swapped version of an earlier one, and several stars are not new stars but rather old ones you have to redo either in a limited amount of time or with only one hit point. The game was fun, but it had some issues which made it worse than Mario 64. If you liked Mario 64, you'll enjoy this, but it just isn't up to the level of its predecessor. Expand

It feels fresh, new, and has amazing Wii Remote controls that I feel are a perfect fit for making the player feel more like they are in space with Mario. As for the story, I find the true story in the game to be amazingly deep. The true story, in my opinion, is the story Rosalina tells the player (if they so choose, that is). I must say that I was close to shedding a tear after I read it. Very deep and a welcome addition to not just the Mario game, but to any game released after this. Having an optional story would satisfy two crowds at once. You can satisfy the players that just want to play a game with no regard for who someone is or why they are there and you can satisfy the gamer that is deep into storyline knowledge. It's a win-win situation. The visuals are astounding. This is such a beautiful game that uses many colors from the color wheel that get neglected so much in more "epic" games. It's so inviting and engaging that, at times, I would take around 3 seconds to just stand and look around in first person view. The soundtrack is, probably, the best soundtrack I've heard this generation of video games. Astounding renditions of the memorable and classic Super Mario tunes fans know and love are fantastically coupled with the ear-candy that is the Good Egg Galaxy and the Gusty Garden Galaxy tunes. At times, I even considered buying the soundtrack to this game! If I could rate this game higher than a 10, I'd do it. This is, in my opinion, the best Super Mario game ever created. Nintendo Tokyo and Shigeru Miyamoto should be proud of themselves for making the most memorable experience a Wii owner will have. Just be sure to not try to speedrun through the game. The game will lose it's spark and the player will miss out on a fantastic experience. Try to stop every enemies' head, collect as many coins and star bits as you can, and make sure that you play with the gravity in the game whenever you can. The physics are very well done. Expand

Sad to see Mario drop to this level. Shooting Mario from one little piece of rock to another is not what Mario is about. The opening level of Toadstool's castle feels like Mario 64 and makes you think another epic is in store but it fails to live up to that promise and delivers a quite frankly shocking game.

Improves upon the formula in almost every way. The control scheme has been simplified, which sounds bad, but in reality, it gets rid of the extra attacks like punching and sliding that were rarely used anyway. The new attacks, spin jumps and shooting stars at foes with the WiiMote, work great and you'll find yourself using them more often than you'd think. Most of the stages feel more 2-dimensional in nature, giving the game a classic feel, but there are still a good number of stages that allow for more free roaming. There are a few moments, such as a few puzzles, that feel out of place in a Mario game, but they're fun, nonetheless. The gravity feature could be considered a mere gimmick by some, but even then, it's such a fun one, you'll hardly care. Even in more linear stages, you'll find yourself messing around and wasting time just because it's fun. The boss battles are great, but some feel too easy. In fact, the game on the whole isn't too difficult - that is, until you delve into the special missions that put fresh spins on already completed levels. Was that one boss too easy? Try beating him without getting hit once. The level of challenge also feels much more fair and balanced - unlike in the other two games, where I always found one or two stars that were insanely hard, but for all the wrong reasons. The graphics are great and really help set the mood for the area you're in. They're always colorful, and help make locales feel alive. The camera is one of the best automated ones I've seen, although it's still cumbersome at times. One feature of the game that cannot be overstated is the music. It's mostly orchestrated, and it's all amazing. A few times it feels a little overdramatic (yeah, it's a Bowser battle, but do we really need the choir?), but it fits in well. The story is... well, it's Mario. Who the heck cares? For what it's worth, though, the story is a little more detailed. Overall, I can't see why people dislike this game. There are times when I read reviews and I think "I disagree with your low score, but I understand it." But with SMG, I can't find a major fault in the whole experience. Unless you hate fun, in which case, this game is the bane of your existance. Expand

On February 7, 2008, the game received the "Adventure Game of the Year" award from the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences at the Interactive Achievement Awards.[40] the graphics are VERY good and in my personal opinion look equivilant to a mid level 360 game which is a tecnical and artistic feat when you take into consideration the wii's less power. The game runs at 60 frames per second without any dips features normapping bumpmapping and NUMEROUS other special effects. THe game itself is very fun and inspired. the game makes use of gravity in numerous excellent fun ways. Also contrary to what some people who rated this game think. This game gets very challengingin the later levels. For instance, there is a fire level with alot of lava and other things that can hurt you as well as a very challenging boss at the end,and if that wasn't enough in order to get one of the stars in the level you have to complete it WITH ONLY ONE WEDGE OF HEALTH. If you get hurt even once you immediatly fail the level and have to start over from the begining. The maximum amount of health that you can have is one wedge so even if you pick up coins which would usually regain your health you won't get any higher than one wedge. On top of that, once you get all 120 stars (VERY HARD TO DO) you can play the game as luigi WHICH MAKES IT EVEN HARDER as luigi dosn't contol as well as mario. There are five "Prankster Comets" that appear periodically (Speedy, Daredevil, Cosmic, Fast Foe, and Purple). When one of them comes into orbit with a galaxy, a special challenge is initiated that leads to a Power Star. The Speedy Comet challenges the player to replay an episode (usually a slightly more difficult version) within a varying time limit. The Daredevil Comet has the player replay a section of a level while shrinking Mario's maximum health to one unit, meaning that the player must complete the objective without being damaged even once. The Cosmic Comet pits the player in a race against a doppelganger of Mario (or Luigi) to a Power Star. The Fast Foe Comet makes a galaxy's enemies more swift and thus harder to avoid. The Purple Comet, accessible only after completing the story half of the game, allots 100 purple coins (or 150, though only 100 are needed) across an area of the 15 six-star galaxies for the player to collect, sometimes within a time limit the people who say that this game is easy are saying that it is easy becuase they were able to get through the main story while only collecting the minimal amount of stars (only the easy ones). Ok, it's actually more of a spectator mode, but that leaves the multiplayer component to be near non-existent. - Graphics aren't exactly edge-breaking. They're nice enough though and create a fairy-tale atmosphere. - There's too much restrictions for the sake of balancing. It's much like a linear platform game without giving the players real room to be creative, there's usually only one way to beat the game. - It's rather repetitive. The gameplay might be rather innovating, but the rest of the game is old. There are also a lot of positive points, but they're easy enough to find... My main concern is the very limited usage of the wii functions, which leaves me to conclude a good 7 is high enough for this game. Expand

I have to admit: it is a pretty game. In fact, I thought it was going to be another Mario adventure (Sunshine was a disappointment, so I thought this was going to be a letdown), but I was wrong. Believe it or not, I finished the first story (there's two, if you didn't know, and there are 242 Stars total!) in four days at 10 hours/day. Plainly addicted to it. To sum up quickly, I loved the Bowser battles and most of the galaxies (loved Toy Time Galaxy and the Battlefield Galaxies), but they ended up being a bit on the easy side (fluctuates; sometimes too easy, sometimes god-awful hard. Go to the Green Star Galaxy and you'll be pushing yourself to max.). Still, the game looks good and plays great on Multi-Star mode. It is awesome. Oh, and if you're one of the guys who didn't play to the last level, or if you didn't like the last level, then you're stupid not to. Expand

Greatest game for the Wii in existence. I don't know why some people don't even give this a 10.

"Super Mario Galaxy" confirms why the console was once called Nintendo Revolution. It explores the most the possibilities of the screen in combination with the Wii-Mote. Shigeru Miyamoto really deserves the title of "Master".

The art direction is second to none. There was no shortage of creative thinking in the making of this game. That said, getting all the stars can become a bit of a chore, especially towards the end. After I beat the main game, I quit playing. I just didn't see the fun in getting 120 stars.

Amazing well designed and totally enjoyable from start to finish. It mat fairly simple to get to 60 stars but to complete it to 120 stars will test anyone, yet even at it's difficulties it's still hugely enjoyable.

Simply put, this is the greatest game to come out in 2007. It has great graphics, an amazing new twist on the platforming genre, and a musical score that will judge all Nintendo games from this point on. A phenomenal game in every respect, and the only one that I have consistently gone back to play after I have beaten it.

I understand that many people believe that this game only got high scores because it's a Mario game. They are only looking at the outside, and don't deserve to play great games. The game has some new things that will keep you interested for a couple hours or so, but it is a kids game. I liked it but can only handle one level or so and then I am bored and go back to my Xbox 360.

Fantastic game! Only thing keeping it from a perfect score is the POV can mess you up sometimes. Plus the 3D isn't all it could be. Sometimes hard to tell what's near and what's far away. Minor stuff really, though.

Great game, could not put down the Wiimote. Not the greatest 2nd player setup but the GF enjoyed helping me find stars and what not. Now that it's been a few months I might go back and play it through with Luigi on my new 42" plasma.

The only thing stopping this game getting 10 is the fact that once you've got the 120 stars and completed it, you unlock luigi, you then have to do it all over again. I don't think i can justify playing a whole game through again. That said, this has to be the best game ever, quite simply, if you own a wii you MUST buy this game!

The game proceeded to thrill me over and over with the level variety and amazing orchestral score. As I got further into the game, I had many underlying fears. Would the game play die down? Would the ending suck? Let's just say that when I finished the game, my fears blew out the window. The action is relayed to you from beginning to end. Is it without flaws? Of course not. I feel like I'm the millionth parroteer of the fact that the camera angles are dodgy at times. I found the game horrendously frustrating at some points. For instance, the lack of quick save functions in challenges means that you must start again, no matter how close you got to the end before that minor mishap. Also Surfing is downright insane. Nintendo has crafted a platform game that, while not as technologically pioneering as its grandfather, is, level for level, more fun to play than "Mario 64." [Dec 2007, p.128]

Galaxy proves that Mario matters just as much today as he did 25 years ago, and that makes him one of a kind in this medium. But don't play Galaxy simply because Mario is the timeless godfather of gaming. No, play Galaxy because it's fantastic.
