    This game has, in my opinion, easily earned the title of best Mario game. It manages to do everything at once and do them all spectacularly. The levels are well-designed and most are incredibly memorable. These levels are accompanied by a Mario that, save for the underwater controls, controls very well, and an absolutely phenomenal soundtrack, which is one of the best ever composed. WhileThis game has, in my opinion, easily earned the title of best Mario game. It manages to do everything at once and do them all spectacularly. The levels are well-designed and most are incredibly memorable. These levels are accompanied by a Mario that, save for the underwater controls, controls very well, and an absolutely phenomenal soundtrack, which is one of the best ever composed. While there are a lot of bosses in this game, because of the sound design, character design and the mechanics of the boss fights, you feel a sense of accomplishment after every boss. I could go on for hours, but you get the idea. It’s a shame that the recently released Mario 3d All Stars, which included this game, is no longer available. Every Mario fan, regardless of whether they own a Wii or not, should be able to enjoy this masterpiece… Expand

    Yes this is a must play game. Metacritic are not exaggerating in the slightest. The mechanics and level design are great and Rosalina's backstory is probably the most fleshed out in Mario history. Yeah, this is probably one of my favourite game of all time.

    I get why people love Mario Galaxy, and to be honest it really is a lot of fun. That is, until it isn't. Many levels are just boring or have aged awfully. I had always wanted to play Mario Galaxy and after completing the game, I must say, I am really disappointed. Whilst being a decent game, playing it after odyssey or even 3d World feels off.

    Mario Galaxy is a masterpiece of a game, everything about it is amazing. The movement, the music, the level design it all oozes pure magic. It is one of if not the best Mario games made. The only single complaint I can have is the motion controls. If you have not played this game then you are doing something wrong it is pure joy.

This game squeezes every ounce of graphical capability from the Wii and is truly a modern classic. It utilizes the pointer and motion controls in the best possible way, where everything is as intuitive as can be. A must play without a doubt. And if you don't like motion controls, it appears on 3d all stars with button only controls. The best way to play is on the Wii, but any way you can play this game is always worth it.     Great game, and a huge part of my childhood. The aesthetics are on point and the storytelling, especially in Rosalina's library, is really something to behold for a Nintendo game.

    Nintendo always impresses me. Mario Galaxy was the best Mario game i've ever played, it's just really fun. I completed the whole game, and wanted more. I like the graphics, and the planets with yoshi are awesome. I loved playing this game, and deserves a 10. No game is perfect, and this one isn't, but is really really good. If a game was perfect, it would score more than the site maximum,Nintendo always impresses me. Mario Galaxy was the best Mario game i've ever played, it's just really fun.     This is the best game ever. It has amazing graphics for the Wii, good story, cutscenes that have aged well, and Rosalina. Also the gravity feature was implemented so well into the game.

    The music the story the sound effects everything is great but i wish they would spend more time on the controls but that is for a lot of Nintendo games the controls are fine but just a bit off and iffy

    This is my personal favorite game on the Wii and it never fails to amaze me even years later. The controls of the game are great and the only problem with the visuals is the resolution. It's lacking a complex story similar to all other Mario games but unlike most Mario games there is still some story. The game is at a 97 and I still think it's underrated.

The gravity mechanics make you truly feel like Mario himself flying through the voids of space. The music is beautiful and memorable, especially the Overture theme and the Comet Observatory!     Story wise, this game is typical Mario but I don't think we play Mario games for its story. Instead we play them for I guess any reason we play video games. To escape from our reality of life and get transported to somewhere brand new. in the case of this, SPACE.

    What made this Mario game so unique was its gameplay mechanics. Each level is essentially a "Galaxy" with planets scattered around to explore. It has gravity aspects and puzzle/platform elements you come to expect but dialed up to 11 with the mechanics of space thrown in. It is bright graphically too with its colors screaming at you. A true feast for the eyes.

    The music for me is the best part about this game. Some of the all time greatest Mario music has come FROM THIS GAME and its sequel and its no wonder. It makes you feel pumped at the right moments, give you that sense of awe and wonder when your just chilling at the home base, and gets you not scared but ready for the fights in the boss battles.

    This is a true Mario game and a wonderful game full stop at that. It recently came out on the Mario 3D All Stars for the Switch and if you have never played this game, PICK THAT UP.    … Expand

    Uno dei migliori giochi per Wii. Mario Galaxy è uno dei pochi giochi che ho finito più volte su wii, grazie alle sue belle musiche e i suoi particolari livelli che mi hanno portato più volte a ricominciarlo. Ottimo gioco, un po troppo lineare rispetto ai suoi predecessori, ma rimane comunque uno dei miei preferiti su Wii.

    Excellent game. Story is effortless since it is always the same, there are just some characters changing and appearing at some point. Controls are great, level are colourful, really varied and awesome with highs and lows. The feeling of progression is amazing as you collect more and more stars. The fact that you can re-enter worlds with a special goal and new rules thanks to the challengeExcellent game.     Perspective is for me the major flaw of the game since the Wii controllers don't always allow you to move easily. In some levels jumps and flying moments can quickly become frustrating and overly difficult.     Ok so this game is Good in 3d all stars but in the Wii the force you to use motion controls that is frustrating. I literally broke my Wii remote because of this Game. there are soo many levels in this game that makes is nearly impossible to beat this game in the Wii. I like the Story tho. the power ups are cool. if this game wasn't on the Wii it would probably be better but if you want theOk so this game is Good in 3d all stars but in the Wii the force you to use motion controls that is frustrating.     Super Mario Galaxy is one of the most immersive video games of all time its almost like you were there along side with mario, All the rooms in this game are extremely detailed with sound effects that are just outstanding. Now the levels are even more unique some are spheres and some are flat.

    O melhor jogo do Mario já feito e definitivamente fica no topo dos games de plataforma 3D. Level design perfeito, uma das melhores trilhas sonoras dos videogames, gráficos muito bonitos e a jogabilidade funciona muito bem nos controles de Wii. Recomendação fortíssima para quem tem Wii ou Switch.

    An incredible game which I will never get tired of replaying, and probably my favourite Mario game.

    I do think that Galaxy 2 has the better levels, but this one has better atmosphere, music and overall presentation. I think that this is one of the few games I'd call a must play, and I'd recommend it to ANYONE.

    This Game is incredible. The soundtrack is phenomenal and the gameplay is amazing. About the narrative, is the basic narrative of all Mario games but has the Rosalina history and is amazing.
    The Power-Ups is very creatives like the spring-Mario. This is one of the best games ever produced.

    The Super Mario Galaxy franchise is by far my most adored one of all time. Both titles are my most favorite games of all time. The gameplay, theme, score, atmosphere, it all converges to an experience I'd want every single person who has never touched a video game before to have, because I'm convinced it will make them love video games from that point on.

    With the release of Super Mario 3D All-Stars I have played Galaxy again and as so many years ago, it was again such a tremendous experience. Galaxy is easily one of Nintendo's finest games ever when it comes to creativity and fun density. The creativity with which some of these galaxies are created is mindboggling. Especially some of the galaxies where you're at the mercy of gravity areWith the release of Super Mario 3D All-Stars I have played Galaxy again and as so many years ago, it was again such a tremendous experience. Galaxy is easily one of Nintendo's finest games ever when it comes to creativity and fun density. The creativity with which some of these galaxies are created is mindboggling. Especially some of the galaxies where you're at the mercy of gravity are insane fun to play.

    This goes from small spheres where you run around in a matter of seconds or 2D sequences where gravity works in all directions and can be changed by arrows. There are some levels that require motion control such as a race with a manta ray or piloting Mario who's standing on a glass ball. It took me several tries to beat these levels, but they are generally quite short and not that challenging. T

    he nature of Galaxy's levels has changed considerably. The exploratory level design of Sunshine and Mario 64 is now gone in favour of a more linear level design. This augments the creativity of level design and you get a better camera control.

    When it comes to controls they are as responsive as you can expect in a Mario game. After all these years we know that the motion controls are more of a gimmick than anything else, but they work superbly in Galaxy. Galaxy was also the first time Nintendo used an orchestra for recording the music and Nintendo delivered. Just listen to the music in Gusty Garden Galaxy and the music is half the fun of this level. Other tracks are also crowdpleasers, but some of them have a dip in quality. Especially the levels with the bees have rather lacklustre music.

    Super Mario Galaxy is without a doubt a masterpiece, but has some cons here and there. It's rather easy and some of the prankster comets feel like recycling previous levels. In these levels you race against a shadow Mario, carry out a speed run of a previous level, collect one hundred purple coins or need to beat a boss with one life. These are the more hardcore aspects of Galaxy, but also more frustrating as they can be time-consuming where lifes are easily lost. Even after all these years Galaxy remains the second best 3D platformer after Super Mario Galaxy 2.    … Expand

    An absolute masterpiece, better than the sequel. Makes me feel like a kid again. It was very fun to play when I was little. Though, it was challenging as child, but when I played it again when I was a bit older, it was easy. I enjoyed every moment playing this game.

    It's a solid 10 for me.

    This is the best platformer ever made. This game has been and always will be my favorite game ever. Stages such as Melty Molten Galaxy, Space Junk Galaxy and Buoy base Galaxy make this game extremely memorable.

    The music and score are the best of any game on the Wii, and use a full orchestra. The esthetic of the game is beautiful and wondrous.

    Just like its sequel, this is a fantastic game. it's pacing is phenomenal, as it constantly bombards you with new ideas and exciting ways to engage with foes. The bosses and atmosphere are on another level and Mario's more restricted move set lets you think more carefully about each platforming scenario. Even as an adult, this game never fails to impress me.

    Possibly the greatest 3D platformer of all time and one of the absolute best games ever! There are some amazing ideas used in single levels that other developers would have built an entire game around. Nintendo have always been one of the most creative developers around and this is some of their finest work still to this day.

While Mario odyssey has hundreds of moons that mean nothing and are annoying to collect, Mario galaxy has short level design that is a series of challenges ramping up until the star, or a memorable boss fight for that is fun to do and(2020 REVIEW) Mario Galaxy is an excellent game the levels are iconic and well designed. One star in Mario galaxy feels like a mario odyssey kingdom. While Mario odyssey has hundreds of moons that mean nothing and are annoying to collect, Mario galaxy has short level design that is a series of challenges ramping up until the star, or a memorable boss fight for that is fun to do and satisfying to beat. The spin is a great addition to Marios movement which helps Mario platform in a 3D environment The sound design is an overlooked feature that adds life to the game not seen in previous games. The music is indescribable the sense of space and sadness is shown throughout many tunes such as space junk galaxy. Some of the songs are very happy throughout like gusty garden galaxy which has been praised endlessly. The music matches the setting fantastically for example melty molten galaxy is full of lava and has a massive Volcano as a center piece the accompanying music is stress full but also gives a sense of Mario defying death himself. The final bowser fight has some of the strongest music in the game while the fight is a little underwhelming gameplay wise the music and setting make up for it. The spherical level design and gravity mechanics are a wonderful addition that instead of detracting from the game like Mario sunshine’s WATER. The story beats in this game also hit hard bowser felt like a presence throughout the game and he felt like and actual threat. The optional story book sections are indescribable they have such a profound meaning and sadness and the music adds to these sequences immensely. The garden is another area in the game that is immensley great it’s hard to describe, so play the game yourself and experience it. The gameplay after the 60 stars required is great their is an additional 60 stars and a secret 120 that are the same as the original 120 but you get the higher jumps and slippery movement of a certain green plumber. In conclusion Mario Galaxy is an excellent game and my favorite game of all time. Their is a profound sense of magic in this game which has yet to be found in future Mario titles.… Expand

I played it in the 3D all-stars collection and the controls are night and day, but still the game feels way too loose, and it is a giant let down after sunshine. But the story is better, it looks a lot better, having 7 saves is amazing and it definitetly is a great Mario game, i justthe game is good but i just can't stand the motion controls, they feel so unresponsive and unprecise. I played it in the 3D all-stars collection and the controls are night and day, but still the game feels way too loose, and it is a giant let down after sunshine.     Overall, a must-play on the Wii, and even more-so on emulators, if you have a decent machine that can uprender it to look and sound even better than on the original hardware.    … Expand

    Undoubtedly one of the best games I have ever played. The levels and bosses are so creative, and the music is some of the best video game music I have ever heard. 10/10, would definitely recommend to anyone.

    Overall my favourite game of all time! Interesting level design, and a surprisingly good story. My only concern is that getting from level to level in the observatory is too difficult, and it is too easy to unlock the final boss!

Every single Mario game I've picked up in the past has been boring or frustrating as some point or another. Not Galaxy. If I didn't have any other responsibilities, I would likely have beaten the game in one sitting.
    The gameplay is completely unique and absolutely perfected. It offers unique challenges and level design like no other game I've ever played. The music is beautiful and may or may not have made me tear up. Even the typical "Bowser steals Peach" story is crafted in such an amazing way that perfectly introduces you to the new gameplay mechanics.
    The game constantly introduces new gimmicks and power-ups and toys to play with, and it never spends too much time focusing on one thing. Every single boss fight feels like it was crafted to perfection.
    At some times it's incredibly easy, and at other times it's incredibly difficult. Everything fits perfectly and works amazingly, and it's a legitimate struggle to find an aspect of the game that isn't good.
    I try to avoid calling a game perfect or flawless, but Nintendo has left me no other option here. Super Mario Galaxy is a perfect video game, and it is not a hard choice to call it my favourite game of all time.

    I never could have asked for a better video game than this one.

    The world doesn't deserve this game. Heck, no company has the right to make a game this legendary. The graphics are well-ahead of its time for Nintendo standards, the soundtrack...is just...remarkably phenomenally undeniably beautiful, the game itself is so much fun to play, I love the boss fights, I love the levels, and I love the different power-ups. I mean, even the story in this game is so good! That's right. The story in a Mario game is amazing.

    That being said, it's not perfect, no game is, but in my opinion, it's definitely come the closest to it more than any other game. The Luigi missions are kinda stupid, and more could have been done with the Red Star, and playing the whole game again as Luigi himself is a little tedious. None of these gripes affect my enjoyment for this game though. Super Mario Galaxy isn't a perfect game, but I still say it's well worth the 10/10.

    12 years ago, I was introduced to video games by Wii Sports. That was a great time and all, but as soon as I popped the disc in for the other game I had, (take a wild guess) I was shown just how magical video games can be. Ever since then, no matter how many times I've beaten this game, I have never liked this game any less than I did when I was practically a toddler.

    Don't be driven away by the motion controls. At least give this game a shot. You will surely find something special about this game that isn't in anything else Mario-related.    … Expand

Not a mass rebellion or anything, but the Wii. Everyone's favorite least-favorite acrylic brick. 2006, release, 2007, Super. Mario. Galaxy. This game, where do I begin. It is undoubtedly my favorite video game ever. It had incredible sphere physics, based on those seen in Space-world 2000 demo 'Mario 128'. It had unique level design, every level, yes even Rolling Gizmo Galaxy, you know you love it, is incredibly fun to play and it is very fun to master each and every one of them. Motion controls are implemented very well in the Wii version, you shake the Wiimote slightly to spin and aim with the pointer to collect and shoot star-bits. The latter was screwed up in the Switch port in my opinion. So, the gameplay's good? Soundtrack? This game sounds beautiful. It is easily the best Mario game in terms of sound design, as it goes for a more grand, magical orchestral sound that fits in well with the feeling that you are in space and, in some cases, highlights that you are alone such as the piano tune that serves as the BGM for Space Junk Galaxy, which, removing the spider boss fight, could be one of the best galaxies in the entire game.
    The graphics push the boundaries of early Wii games, and removing SMG2, could be the best looking game on the Wii, they have aged very well and look perfect on the Switch in HD. Lastly, Gusty Garden Galaxy. In my opinion and many others will agree, this is perfection. The music, the visuals, the gameplay, all culminate to make one of the greatest video game levels EVER. Not many would disagree. This game made a resounding impact on me and many others of my generation, which is why I give it 10 out of 10.     The perfect game. If you have played it you already know this, if you haven't take my advice and play it ASAP. It is 13 years old now but it is timeless and I consider a modern classic.

    Also it was followed by what might well be the best sequel of all time in Super Mario Galaxy 2.

My dream came true when Super Mario 3D Allstars came out, and I could finally play it. The hub world lights up as you play it, the music just fills you with immediate joy. The controls are not at their best though. The spinning is sometimes inaccurate, same thing with the pointer. Great level design, solid controls, amazing music, and a fantastic presentation overall. This game will make you feel like a child in the best way.

    This game is perfect. The weird gravity mechanic, the enemies, le star-spin, and the whole story of Rosalina and the lumas. This game has a lot of replayability, when I unlocked Luigi I was happy to re-play the entire game. 10/10

    There's almost nothing negative I can say about Mario Galaxy, yes.. the controls are more tight than 64 and sunshine but that isn't actually a problem for this type of mario game, excellent levels, excellent bosses, excellent difficulty, excellent story for a mario game with excellent characters, excellent visuals and sounds, hardly any negatives for me

Level design and mechanics are extremely varied and inventive which always keep you immersed throughout, along with a familiar, yet incredibly executed narrative and the best narrative I’ve seen in a 3D Mario game to date. Only real issues revolve around some awkward camera angles at times, especially underwater which aren’t ideal but don’t weigh down the overall experience. I would’ve also liked to have seen some mechanics return more often and be taken further but that seems to be asking too much for what’s been produced here. This in spirit is the true successor to Mario 64 even if it’s gameplay is more linear here.… Expand

    “Super Mario Galaxy” is not just a “standard” 3D “Mario” platformer: the game does have nostalgic odes to the series, and at its core, you might think it’s just another platformer in the series, but Mario’s journey into space is stunning from start to finish. The game works as many Mario games do, but the added elements of space physics and sphere walking are implemented so well, to the point where platforming is even more challenging and rewarding. The level design is also constantly great, and I always felt like I was learning something new or getting an opportunity to try something new. And in a game with this much content, that’s a necessity, so it’s a great thing Nintendo pulls it off with aplomb. Also, presentation-wise, this game is an absolute stunner. Visually, even on a system as underpowered as the original Wii, the game is just brimming with stellar colors and luscious environments that are just a joy to look at, and even as I was reaching the end of the game, I was constantly floored by how stunning the game looked. Even beyond the graphics, though, this game’s soundtrack is in a class of its own. The music in the game is among some of the best I’ve ever experienced in a game, whether it’s going for tensing and triumphant styles, or playing up the emotion with something more mellow and heart-clenching. The music in the game is enough to bring a tear to your eye, it’s absolutely breathtaking, and while storytelling has never been the focus of “Mario” games, I do like several moments of writing in the game, notably in relation to Rosalina’s story, which is quite emotional, and a nice, surprising addition to the game.
    I honestly can’t think of many negatives about the game. At worst, a few of Mario’s new suits can be a bit wonky to deal with, and maybe a few of the motion-controlled puzzles take a bit of getting used to. Otherwise, though, those flaws don’t impede on my overall enjoyment of the game.
    It’s been said before and I’ll say it again, “Super Mario Galaxy” is a masterpiece. It’s one of the finest Wii games, and one of my personal favorite video games. If you’ve been ignoring the game, please change that. It’s a phenomenal adventure that should be experienced by everyone. And hey, with the game finally seeing a Switch release thanks to the “Super Mario 35th All-Stars” collection, what better time than now to play it?

    Nintendo was my childhood and Super Mario Galaxy is the first game that i played, graphics are incredible, music is gold, history is amazing and game design is powerfully, for me, Super Mario Galaxy is the best game that Nintendo ever made, if you are in 2020, so buy Super Mario 3D All Stars on switch, i think it will be expensive, but you will not try to lose it don't?

    The greatest game ever made. The controls feel so tight the worlds are os beautiful and just man, its simply amazing. Its like if Jesus came to save all game consoles and he appeared in the form of Mario galaxy with two as the holy ghost and Halo 3 as the Father. Jusr amazing.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Absolutely legendary. Should be higher in my opinion but I just adore this true masterpiece. It all flows well and the levels are obviously gimmick based but it doesn't shine through as much as you expect from a Mario game. Everything is perfectly designed and it can be played by anyone, whether you want a nice quick 3D Mario experience and go for bare minimum stars, or you are a completionist and acquire all stars as Mario and Luigi. It suits all players and always provides a great time.… Expand

    Well, what to say about this masterpiece. It is easily the best Mario game I've ever played tied with the sequel of this game.

    It was the first 3d Mario game that i played so i really fee nostalgic about it, i think that it is a really fun mario game and has a great story, also the gravity mechanics are awesome.
