Clearly designed with the hardcore gamer in mind. It's slick, addictive and as close to "cool" as a game can get. [Christmas 2006, p.68]
  2. It is a fun and skilled gamer experience that requires some learning and patience. You will enjoy Red Steel the first time around, but I don’t see any space for replayability value.
  3. Most of Red Steel’s faults lie with the game’s presentation. Enemies shout annoying obscenities in your direction during every firefight, the cheesy score is bad enough to incite chuckles, and the jaggy graphics look worse than many Xbox and PlayStation 2 games.
  4. It blazes a lot of new trails but doesn’t make much headway, and the traditional shooter elements aren’t done very well. The multiplayer really needs more depth, but hopefully the inevitable sequel will do it better, because I can’t imagine playing deathmatch very long with the controls as they are.
  5. It's a decent FPS, with great (for the system) graphics and audio, and makes for a decently enjoyable run, although it's only worth making the run once. Rent it first.

Unfortunately, Red Steel was built on the premise that the controls would bring a new level of immersive gameplay and fun never before seen in the genre. This was never truly delivered and in turn has done more harm to the game then aid.
  7. A time machine that only goes backwards to the age when a glut of no-name shooters clogged the shelves.

It's shocking to see some of the very low scores this game is getting. It deserves a 7 at the very least. Anything lower than that is madness. Expand

The game is a fully featured action game with a Japanese and US focused adult storyline. The voice acting is very good, the scenes and dialogue make for an engaging game session and you are playing with a feeling of retribution which gives the game even more of an atmospheric feel especially in first person perspective. The graphics while not great are definitely decent and detailed, the environment is interactive and realistic in design. Every now and again the controls hang up, but this only happens frequently and does not generally disturb the flow of game. Also, it helps to best hold the controls on your preferable hand, so it takes some experimenting at first to find your most comfortable control setup. I played this game on Wii u which means perhaps some of the older performance and graphics issues are not as obvious on faster hardware, but I would still recommend picking it up for cheap these days as it is a very solid game. The control is good and utilize all the gimmicks it needed. I complain a lot about the checkpoint, very irritating and sometimes the WII remote gets messy. I'm happy though that Nintendo made the risk. Expand

I was really hyped for this game but i gotta say i was disappointed. I personally dont mind the bad graphics all that much. But in multiplayerI was really hyped for this game but i gotta say i was disappointed. I personally dont mind the bad graphics all that much. But in multiplayer mode, theyre just way too horrible to overlook. youre player's arm doesnt even match with the person youre using! Pretty bad v-acting Controls were alrite but too difficult to explain to my friends for multiplayer mode. Expand
