There's really something huge about this game. And it's not only the game itself but the amount of work put on it. It sure feels different than the first Xenoblade game, but when you're playing it taking your time you realise why this is one of the best games ever made.

First of all, the content is almost endless. The main story is interesting and there are A LOT of secondary missions.

First of all, the content is almost endless. The main story is interesting and there are A LOT of secondary missions. This was something that I think everyone already knew.

What I try to say is that we have to look further. Xenoblade X provides a giant world to explore. And I mean GIANT. Even the city (New Los Angeles) is enormous. We have no loading screens while we're in open world, where there are SO MANY THINGS on screen. And the framerate keeps stable. Yes. The framerate is freaking damn stable. And that's one of the best things in this game, as the Wii U is not as powerful as other systems, and Monolith have Managed to take all this stuff into a 25GB disc and make it run on the Wii U perfectly. Genius.

On the other hand, you're not just going to kill stuff and leveling up. You will need to help the mankind in order to survive in planet Mira, and that means you can choose what you do in every moment. And there are many ways of helping people, as defending the city from the creatures outside, or being a mediator between some people's relationships, for example.

I can only say this game is, no doubt, one of the best games I've ever play. Totally worth it.

This is without a doubt in my book a technical masterpiece and an impressive game. Therefore is my 2015 GOTY. Everyone who loves ARpgs, JRpgs or RPGs in general should not miss this game. Even people who hate Nintendo, Monolith Soft and RPGs should play this game. Yeah that good the game is.

It’s a game that understands the importance of rewarding players for their personal investment, and it makes sure that, no matter how convoluted its design, no matter how lengthy its tangential content, the payoff is always worth the time and effort.

There are moments that make me scratch my head, infuriate me, and even make me cringe, but when I consider the layered mass that is Xenoblade Chronicles X, all I can think of how damn arresting it is. How much of it is there. How much of it is thoroughly enchanting.

Oh, and did I mention the music? Hiroyuki Sawano maker of many Anime related music (like Attack on Titan!) has made truly on hell of a soundtrack YEAH! OH! NLA! Easy GOTY 2015 for me and anybody how loves big JRPGs with 300+ hours of gameplay should buy it ASAP!

Despite running at 720p the art style truly does wonders for the game, and during sunsets it's a true joy to get up a mountain and just enjoy the sight. Apart from the opening sequence when the mist is clearing up, after 12h of non-stop gameplay I have yet to experience a single fps drop, even when there is quite a bit of stuff going on the screen, it stays solid. The game play: mash the skills in random patterns and you will be punished against tougher enemies, execute them in a way so that they would compliment each other and you will be rewarded. If you like RPGs I would strongly recommend picking this game up. It will take a long time till we will get a game of this quality again and I mean it.

Also before the release there were a lot of people were saying "well it doesn't matter what's the size of the world if it will be empty", I can tell you, it is FAR from empty.

I have yet to encounter a single glitch. The open world is seamless and beautiful. The artwork is is probably the best I have seen in any game since Final Fantasy X over a decade ago. The game demands from the start that you immerse yourself in the world. What Avatar and Star Wars are to the silver screen, this game is to video gaming.

I honestly can't remember playing a game that was this good.

Fetch quests are complete BS, as you have to go forward blind and hope you stumble across what you need.
Monster balance is not so great. expect random one hit deaths.
Boss battles all use standard/ cheap mechanics to mimic difficulty. (invincible phases, adds everywhere, boss health bar refills, one hit kill attacks, etc.)
Nearly everything in the game moves glacially slow. From combat and leveling, to getting items to drop off from monsters. Items and Skell suits are ridiculously expensive. Prepare to grind endlessly.
You gain resources at regular intervals, but some sort of anti idle is in place to keep people from making credits while they sleep at night. why? Who the F knows.
Worst offense of all. NO SOUND OPTIONS. I liked the music at first, but hours into the game it really got under my skin. Poor game design. Needs to be fixed.

TLDR: This game gets a 6 from me just for the vastness of the open world and overall aesthetics. Xenoblade Chronicles X is a single player grindfest that wishes it could have been an MMO. The game has too many issues for me to rate it any higher.

Alpha texture resolution can create uneven edges around objects. There are also instances of clipping where a car will pass right through your characters. Despite its few graphical shortcomings however; the game still manages to impress with its sheer artistry and scale. Speaking of scale its been estimated that Xenoblade X is larger than the worlds of the Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 combined. The Witcher 3 could fit in Xenoblade X three times while Fallout 4 could fit inside X's world 5 times.

The game doesn't hold your hand and it also doesn't pull any punches. The game can be difficult at times but has a decent curve. Some of the menus can be a bit dense and you aren't given a lot of explanation. If there was ever a game you wanted to read the manual or guide for? This is that game. Fortunately the game has a on disc manual that can be accessed from the gamepad. But it can also be rewarding to explore these menus on your own and learn how its systems work with one another.

You start the game by creating a character of your own. The options are fairly straightforward and get the job done. It is a bit disappointing that even after creating a character to your liking; your character is essentially a blank slate with no real personality to speak of. The story is intriguing though suffers from stiff presentation and dialogue at times. Some of the story missions unfortunately are gated behind side missions.

The biggest selling point of the game is getting your own mech (Skell). This doesn't happen until 30+ hours into the game but is rewarding once you do. Skells themselves offer different combat and traversal options including the ability to fly. However it comes at a cost. The Skells themselves are expensive and can be destroyed in combat. Replacing them isn't cheap either. In combat your Skell's equipment determines what arts you can use. However like attacking appendages of your enemies in ground combat? Enemies can also attack individual parts of your skell. Once you lose an arm or something, this can prevent you from using a specific art in that fight. So it is imperative to know when to use your skell and when to save it from destruction.

Overall Xenoblade X is a fantastic game that shouldn't be missed if you are a WiiU owner. The game offers hundreds of hours of content and is easily worth the $60.

    *****SPECIAL EDITION REVIEW*****
    ______________________________________

I would like to now take this time to review the special edition. The 120+ page artbook is beautiful. The pages are glossy with a varnish applied to certain images that really give it a premium quality finish. The special edition also comes with a matted art card which is very nice. My biggest gripe is with the soundtrack that is on the USB device. The tracks themselves are gated behind a form of DRM that has for some users locked their particular drive. So at the present it is little more than a paper weight. Its disappointing that Nintendo had to implement a form of DRM for a soundtrack we had already purchased in the special edition.

I've been looking forward to this game since it's announcement, and I'm happy to say that it didn't disappoint. Not only is it a fun and deep RPG, but it also acts as one of the largest and most beautiful games on the Wii U thus far. No, it's not perfect, but I think that the positives ultimately outweigh the negatives.

First off, I want to address my favorite thing about the game: the battle system. When I was watching gameplay for this game, I wasn't sure how it would work having not played Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii, but it quickly became the most addictive part of the game for me. It actually reminded me of a MOBA more than a traditional RPG, with the presence of cool-down abilities and real-time combat, and for a company like Nintendo to incorporate these ideas into their games is great. The combat it fast and frenetic, and the size and speed of some creatures makes every victory in the later game feel earned.

This game is WEIRD. From the character creation options to the music to the dialog to even the character and monster design, this game is clearly proud to be Japanese. You'll have a much more fun experience if you remember this, and in a world of Call of Duty and Battlefield (games so American it hurts), it's nice to see that Nintendo hasn't forgotten it's roots.

Now for the not-so great: this game suffers from what I like to call, "The Wii U Curse." Basicly, the fact that this game doesn't do much to utilize the Gamepad as much as it could have. This problem has plagued Nintendo from the beginning, with games like Nintendo Land and ZombiU using the Gamepad the best at launch. But it's sad that Nintendo hasn't learned from this, especially with Minecraft: Wii U Edition and, of course, this game. This game also suffers from being too vague in it's presentation, with seemingly important details like party management and the battle system being either poorly explained or not explained at all.

There's one thing that made me the most excited for this game, and that's the inclusion of mecha A.K.A. Skells. So it's a shame that you have to play so far into the game to actually get the chance to pilot on of them, and when you do it's proceeded by easily the most boring quest in the game. But once you get your Skell, it causes the game to open up, and truly shows the scope of the world. Remember those giant creatures you previously just ran by? Now you can fight them on their level. But this addition doesn't make the rest of the game a cakewalk. You still have to fight with strategy and logic to win, and the battles just get harder as the game progresses.

All in all, Xenoblade Chronicles X is not only one of the best RPGs of the year, but one of the most unique as well. While it's weirdness can't surpass Metal Gear Solid's, it still manages to be ridiculous and charming in places. And it shows that the Wii U is still fighting, still clinging to the lifeline of first-party games. This is a game you shouldn't ignore.

    Overall Score: 8.3/10

And that's what it the game is, 'an experience,' more than almost any other game I've played. If you've ever watched an anime focused on a character's fighting growth or played almost any RPG in any form, you're already familiar with this game. You start out as a weak, puny human and attempt to slowly climb the scales of power to godly extents. The process feels refreshingly realistic compared to comparable games, in the sense that larger enemies are harder, period, and killing the largest enemies would take hours on foot. The sense of emergent power is well beyond any other game I've played. In a normal RPG you gain levels and get better equipment to do more damage, receive less damage, and fight harder enemies. In this game, you do that while accumulating things like division points, R&D points, ability points, credits, tickets, and Miranium to eventually scale your various forms of power well beyond your human form. You gain use of a giant humanoid robot called a 'Skell' (like 'exoskeleton') and then the world and enemies you struggled with until then feel a little punier. You feel momentarily invincible, but even that's just the beginning of a much larger quest for growth. You need to get Skells for everyone in your party, gain the ability to fly, buy better Skells and collect better weapons for them, and even then you will come up short when facing the ultimate enemies. There is a very specific cap to your power in the form of a Skell you can build from items that are effectively impossible to find without tickets (it's called the Ares 90). Then you're at the top, right? No. Even when you can kill almost every monster with a single attack, there are at least two 'Ultrafauna' bosses that will wipe the floor with you until you build augment after augment to perfect your enemy-specific power. At 100% completion, should you have the patience to reach it, you will have an outrageously tricked out Skell that will effectively make you a god of the islands (and you get a poster...).

Everything beyond the quest for power feels like a nuance, meaning the game plays like Monster Hunter , with added plots to direct you around. That makes the stories sound trivial, but in fact they're what kept me interested in the game since I'm all about story. For people who don't just want to run around killing things, the normal, affinity, and story missions are all well written enough to keep things entertaining for the duration. On the other hand, the 'core story' of the game is actually more like a side narration to add a bit of purpose to your travels. There are definitely some few interesting parts in it, along with a few clichés, but because the quest for power is so... overpowering, the story missions end up being more like hindrances to your progress. I ended up wait as long as possible to advance the plot because of how easy it was to get distracted. I searched almost every part of every island on foot, which was a memorable experience in itself, but for people that want to be efficient in total completion, it's far better to do the story missions ASAP to get Skells and flying (not to mention that it makes all other missions available so you won't have to search the same areas as many times to not miss anything).

Content-wise, the game contains numerous 'motifs' from previous Xeno games (Xenogears, Xenosaga 1-3, Xenoblade Chronicles), with a special emphasis on references to the most interesting elements of Xenosaga, but supposedly this game is not a direct sequel to any of those games, which is a major disappointment. The plot elements also lead to more questions than answers, which is bad practice in a world where there's a 50-50 chance for a sequel at best. On the other hand, this game is excellent, so it is ripe for a sequel to further expose the lingering secrets. From here, the worst thing that could happen after to the Xeno 'series' is if they made another isolated game instead of a direct sequel. There's a line at the end of the game (which I don't really consider a spoiler because it tells you nothing about the plot), that's something like "the story continues forever..." Based on the Xeno game creator's priors, it tells me that they may try to leave everything as open mysteries and never touch on them again, which is just mean.

Score: 9/10 from a pure enjoyment perspective. I would say 8/10 from a 'holistic' perspective, but its unique enough to earn the extra point.

Some helpful tips if you're going for 100% from the beginning:
-Read the manual early since the 'tutorials' are bare-bones.
-Complete the Story Missions to get the Skell functions as early as possible.
-Save your tickets for the Ares 90 and augment parts.
    -Whole Game = Beat Telethia.

Taking my time in game, EXPLORING and reading every interaction i'm involved in I found my way around pretty good. Even with the grinding aspect I feel that whenever I play a rpg of any nature I expect to grind alot just because the nature of rpg's are always to become as strong as you can in every aspect. Grinding in this game is not so mundane as other rpgs (or jrpg) because you choose your battles, but if you call the attention higher level enemies you can end up on the end of a one hitter quitters so pay attention to your surroundings and stay on your toes. I can't tell you how many times I was in a important battle with enemies at my level and died because I accidently made a higher level enemy pissed off.
In short my main gripe about this game are the missions that give you little intel in what direction you should go especially with the gather(fetch) missions. My advice is pace yourself and pay attention to detail and you would enjoy the sheer content of which Xenoblade offers. I'm about hundred hours into the game and still enjoying myself so if you have a wii u and enjoy rpg's (jrpg's) than this ones for you.

It would be a crime to say that Xenoblade Chronicles X is a big game. It's a crime because that doesn't even begin to cover it. Much like it's predecessor, Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii, Xenoblade Chronicles X focuses on exploration in this new world, but unlike Chronicles, this world may offer too much to explore. Don't get me wrong, that's not a bad thing. Going around that next corner, and walking along a cliff side only to stop because the view is just stunning, especially because the Wii-U is the inferior system in the console war is an absolutely fantastic feeling. There were just times where it felt intimidating.

This world is HUGE! You get the sense of scale in the first few moments of the game when all you can do is run around on foot. If you can see it, you can go there, and that's not an exaggeration. You see a floating plateau in the sky, you can eventually get there. And the wildlife makes this world feel alive.

Speaking of wildlife, danger is always present so you need to know how to defend yourself in this new world. The combat varies very little from the Xenoblade Chronicles. It's still a real time MMO with JRPG mechanics battle system. You have your arts list to choose your attacks from, but this time around, you have two methods of attack, ranged and close combat. This time however, there is no way to actively heal your party unless you keep an eye out for party members soul voices. These activate when a party member, yourself included, call out for a certain action. Each of these corresponds with a certain art in your hot bar. Activating these not only heal you, but gives you other potential boosts to you and your parties stats so keeping an eye for these is key in battle.

This is only the surface to the great system, and when you eventually get your giant fighting robot it only gets better. However, while Xenoblade Chronicles X has a great battle system and encourages explorations, it lacks in what I consider the most important aspect, story.

It's a good concept. In the future, two alien races engage in a massive battle above Earth, and knowing they can do nothing, humanity decides to do the only thing they can, leave Earth and seek a new home. However, they are eventually found by one of the hostile races of aliens and shot down on a foreign planet they deem Mira. The goal, explore the new planet and find the "Lifehold" which holds what is left of humanity before they are wiped out. On paper, it sounds fun, but the story never really takes off. Where as Shulk and his party were likable almost from the beginning, the lack of a personality your personal avatar, as well as the dull supporting cast just don't really give you a reason to care about the story. This is a game you play just for the actual gameplay. Exploration and combat are the strong point to this game, but it's so good, you really don't even need the story, or lack there of.

This is only the tip of the iceberg. There is so much to this game, as I've said before, it's almost too much. I haven't even touched on side quests, ground gear, and affinity quests. If you do play this, don't expect to be pulled in by the story like Xenoblade for Wii. You will be pulled in by this vast world, where even from the beginning, you are free to go where you want.

The battle system is just as great as the previous game in the series. Every character has abilities that they can use, and the main character can be built in an endless number of ways.

Now for the bad parts. The story is left unfinished. All the questions raised over the course of the story remain unanswered. There's even an end credits scene which makes the main mission of the game pointless.

During main quests you are forced to use the same three characters. If you haven't leveled those characters up, then you will have a hard time. A lot of the recruitable characters, and other features in this game are locked behind a complex system that is never explained. Would you like to unlock Hope? Well, first you have to accept a tedious, and meaningless quest, on the job board. If you don't do that, then she is never unlockable. Would you like to unlock Murderess? Put a specific character in your party and then go talk to her.

There's too much grinding in this game. The first game in the series had you work for stuff, but this game makes certain things take three times as much time as the first game. Would you like to build the ultimate giant robot? First, you need to wait until you have four million credits. How do you get credits? You farm them from mines on the map. These mines auto-farm credits, once ever thirty minutes. I've placed all the credit farming mines in all the best spots, and I still only get 230 thousand credits once every twenty minutes or so. This means that in order to get, four copies of, the very best mech in the game, you need to sit around waiting for your money to build up, for about forty hours.

You have to grind in order to get recruitable characters to like you enough to do their character specific missions. It takes around seven hours to get a single character to three hearts. There is no shortcut, like giving gifts in the first game.

It's a massive sci-fi RPG, with probably the largest open-world I've ever seen. All of its charms, and even its flaws, come from the fact that this is an enormously ambitious undertaking, presenting players with a huge playground of a planet that is ripe for adventuring and exploration.

In the story, you're one of the few survivors of Earth's demise. Having crash-landed into planet Mira, the last remaining humans set up the city of New Los Angeles, which acts as an ever-developing hub for main-story missions and sidequests.

The plot could be described as a distinctively Japanese take on something like Star Wars or Star Trek; there are sentient alien races to find, fight, and befriend, as well as a plethora of wild lifeforms (called indigens) to hunt down for experience and materials. The story has its highs and lows, and often requires healthy doses of suspension of disbelief (not unlike the aforementioned franchises, to be honest).

The open world comprises two sets of locations. First, there's the city of NLA and its various districts. There's lots of stuff to do here, but it does feel a little stiff when compared to cities in other similar titles. One of the reasons for that is how unwieldy it is to find your way across the city, with loads of information to keep track of (such as locations for recruitable characters, regular missions, and affinity quests) and no easy way to display all that data on a neat, organized manner. Also, here some of the game's technical compromises become clear, as textures can be a bit too muddy, and the lack of collision detection with moving cars can lead to unintentionally funny moments.

It's all for good reason, though, because then there's the true meat of the title: the Miran wilderness. Each of the five massive continents has its own identity, from sprawling plains to massive forests to desertic landscapes, and they're all beautiful, with detailed environments and a rather large draw distance. Of the seventy hours I poured into the title, the vast majority was spent exploring its many intriguing locales, battling indigens and instaling probes to map out the planet.

It helps a lot that the entire world is pretty much seamless: unless you use fast-travelling, there's not a single loading screen to be seen outside of story missions, which is a phenomenal accomplishment in a world this big.

Another defining quality of Xenoblade X is the depth of its mechanics. Make no mistake: this is not the kind of game you just pick up and play. There are a lot of concepts to grasp, which may warrant a few looks at the virtual manual (or at an online wiki, which I'd say is very recommended). The good news is that, unless you want to tirelessly micromanage everything, you can probably ignore a lot of the minutiae once you get the grasp of basic combat and exploration. Aside from the first few hours, I only cared about equipping arts and skills, relegating other needlessly complicated features (such as soul voices and some of the equipment characteristics) to their automated setups.

And of course, there are the skells, which are the all-powerful mechs that become available for your team six chapters into the story. Better yet, later on you can get the flight module, allowing your skells to take off. If you think Mira is an alluring place to explore on foot, wait until you start soaring above the beautiful landscapes, being able to reach literally every single place you lay your eyes on. It's a true game changer, and takes Xenoblade X from a great adventure to truly beathtaking stuff.

Saying RPG fans should at least try out Xenoblade X is an understatement. The dedication it requires, both for exploring its vast open world and for mastering its more obtuse mechanics, means it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea. But if you're in the market for spending dozens upon dozens of hours on truly immersive and compelling gameplay, you owe it to yourself to give this one a try.

first of all, please understand that this is a game with deep mechanics. those of you who loves monster hunter or dark souls might probably love this game, too. while those of you who loves light gameplay that focuses more on storytelling would most probably rant on metacritics and give bad scores :)

the grinding, for instance... with proper builds or infinite overdrive techniques, there's actually no need to grind for level in this game. but what about grinding for items?? well, with proper knowledge of drop rates and part breaks, everybody could get an almost certain drop rate -or just use ticket exchanging mechanics in the first place for items with insanely low drop rate anyway :)

what about the music? well, hiroyuki sawano definitely tried something new here, and i gotta admit that sometimes it just doesn't work at all. but it doesn't mean that the music are bad. most of the songs are pretty awesome when u listen to them on their own. sure, they badly overlaps the character's dialogues at some points, but u could still 100% understand what's going on thanks to subtitles. sure, it's annoying and could be executed way better than this. but saying that the music in this game are bad are just like saying that gordon ramsey's delicious beef wellington tastes bad simply because the waiter served it with the wrong type of wine.

i'm also a huge fan of the silent protagonist. i'm lovin the idea that -I AM- the hero of this game.
u could customize Megaman, u could rename Cloud, u could change Shepard's gender. but they'll always be the hero of their respective games, not you. i like those "become a legend mode" in football and sports games, i play mmorpg, i enjoy being the hero of my game. of course, with that comes the problem of believability, sometimes they had to shift the main dialogue to Elma or other characters to do the speaking for you. but it's as just what i said in the beginning: some people who expected storytelling will be disappointed, but monster hunter fans will have no problem whatsoever -we're used to being a silent protagonist.

    most criticisms that i heard are also came from player's inability to grasp the mechanics;
some say it takes too long to go from point A to point B - hey, there's fast travel.
some say it takes too long to obtain a skell - how long do u think u could obtain airships in FF games?
some say u could get OP and this game is IMBA - well it wasn't easy to make those OP builds. and practically when u went those extra miles to make ur character stronger, u will become somewhat OP. and that goes for any game, if u obtain knights of round in FFVII, reached lv99 in any RPG, or unlocked rocket launcher in classic Resident Evil games, u WILL one hit most of the stuff inside that game.

so yeah, please understand that this is a game with deep mechanics and interesting experimental stuff. for those who gets it, this game is a solid 10. but those of you who loves traditional triple A with light gameplay that focuses more on storytelling should probably pass this one.

thanks for reading my wall of text,
i hope u have fun with this game as much as i do ;)

Just like those two games the graphics in this one are stunning and have their own unique anime-like style, however this brand of anime leans closer to realistic and further away from cartoonish. Unlike those games though Xenoblade Chronicles X focuses more on open world exploration and game play than it does on the story, so it has sort of an Elder Scrolls philosophy behind it. There are a few things you should know before purchasing though:

    1. No level scaling. While exploring the first few areas you will see giant level 89 four armed gorillas and huge dinosaur things that can kill you with one hit. It is important you learn to sneak around stronger enemies and also recognize which ones are hostile. If they have a red eye symbol beside their name that means they are hostile and will attack you if you go near them. If they have a red lightning bold it means they might turn hostile if you bump into them but otherwise will leave you alone.

    2. The combat is turn-based with some real-time elements. Basically everyone has a cooldown on their basic attack ranging from 1 to 2 seconds, so instead of mashing a button to attack you stand there and watch your character auto attack. You have the option to use Arts which have longer cooldowns but deal more damage. You'll be tempted to spam all your arts first thing but strategically it is more ideal to wait until your allies give you the chance to trigger a Soul Voice. This is done when one of them says something like, "I need some cover fire!" or "Move in and do some damage!" After they say something like this either your ranged, melee, or support arts on your hotbar will light up and when you use them you'll get special bonuses and your party will be healed for a small amount. If you are smart you'll always keep an art of each kind ready to use and benefit a lot from Soul Voices, some enemies will be near impossible to beat without them.

    3. Grinding. It is not necessary to grind to enjoy Xenoblade Chronicles X but you will have to in order to get the most out of this game. If you just want to play the story and explore then you can probably get by just doing a few quests and killing whatever enemies you can. However, there are giant monsters and tyrants that you will simply never be able to kill unless you either grind for an Ares90 or grind to make a badass custom Skell OR if you really enjoy grinding you can try to twink your character up to kill those bosses without a Skell. The best build for that is the Ether Blossom Dance, which I'm currently working on. It will let you do millions of damage but the amount of necessary grinding to acquire the gear and augments you need is ridiculous, and some of the monsters you'll have to kill to farm the materials are over level 80 which makes them near impossible to kill. The entire post-game after you complete the story is basically grinding to be more powerful so you can kill bigger monsters in order to grind to be more powerful. If you hate grinding/min-maxing then I caution you about buying this game. If you're a seasoned MMO player who loves creating op builds though this game is just for you.

    4. The music. Okay I'm going to be brutally honest, the music for much of the game is terrible. Now there are some really pretty sounding instrumentals and even some good vocals but those are reserved for exploration, flying in your Skell, boss battles, etc. When you start the game you're in a city/former ship called New Los Angeles and the music changes from day to night. During the day you get some woman wailing to a pretty generic sounding rock beat. For me it is tolerable but I still have to lower the volume. At night though they play this rap beat with this black guy they probably picked up off the street grunting, "Ungh, ungh, ungh. Yeah yeah yeah. Ungh ungh ungh." Needless to say I usually just mute the TV when I go to NLA at night, either that or stop to manage the time and set it to early morning. There's also some vocals in the battle music, and while some of the songs have rap lyrics they are sung to techno/dubstep beats which kind of fit the whole futuristic robot battles on alien planet theme. Now I'm a really cynical **** who pretty much hates 99% of all music so the fact that I can tolerate this music must mean it isn't really all that bad. This wouldn't be a big deal if you wanted to mute the game and listen to your own choice of music but with the soul voices in battle it helps to have an audio cue even though the icons for each art will light up. My eyesight is poor and I'm easily distracted so being able to respond to Elma or Lin's voice helps me a lot, but if you think you can trigger Soul Voices with just the visual cue feel free to mute the game.

Other than some bad music and grinding this is the perfect game for turn-based robot battles

Xenoblade Chronicles X is an outstanding game where you look. Since its announcement, the followers of this title have had a share of hype that has been satisfactorily compensated with a vast and complex, full of challenges and difficulties world. With this Wii-U complements its catalog with great games like Mario Maker, Bayonetta 2 or Splatoon, ranking among the best of the year and defend its position in the current generation of consoles. In true Japanese style, this title dazzles and rubs shoulders with the best of the year as The Witcher 3 or Metal Gear Solid TPP. The gameplay and complex mechanical outset, Xenoblade system CX has a Japanese-style RPG game that does not conform to any type of player. The fight turns in real time, as mentioned by some analysts, may prove to be tedious for some audiences. However, for fans of these titles, the system tends to be a strong point. From my perception, the gameplay is very funny and tends to exploit the game in different aspects, such as hours of play. Whereas Xenoblade CX is basically a huge map full of monsters, cities and environments, the fight for long-term shifts further increase the hours of play and thus can get more out of their "goodness". In this regard, I believe that there is another element that falls within the realm of the gameplay: the wicks. To get out of these machines have to play a good couple of hours to re-open a new world. Upon delve into the world of Mira, at first were dazzled. However, when we finally do with a wick, the world returns to give us another section as if it were a new world. This undoubtedly contributes to extol the image of this powerful title. Graphics Graphically, Xenoblade CX shines. a very good job is denoted by Mololith Soft. The environments are simple and simply stunning. The draw distance has a very good artistic touch that leaves amazed even the most demanding player. But the title also has its flaws; for example, designing the faces and certain enemies not look very nice. Something similar happens with the odd texture. But after all, it met and exceeded. It get to see the perseverance to exploit the benefits of the Nintendo console. Sound With a mix of different styles, I highlight the beautiful orchestra that directs each fight or when we explore the map. Without doubt, the sound tends to also be a plus for Xenoblade CX. It was again a very good job of Monolith since in every moment we have submerged during the fighting. There is a relationship between the concentration akin to maintain when we are in the fight and music. The work is clear and we have delivered a very good maelstrom of issues that may remain in our memories. Innovation As I mentioned in the mechanical, Xenoblade CX innovates and does it with finesse. Called mecha (robots) are one of the instruments that make up this remarkable symphony. When they took a while assimilating Look we find these great robots and when we rode them is time that we begin to fly from heaven and will witness the beauty of the landscape of strange and mysterious look. Frantic struggles we carried out on solid ground, can now be performed in the air. Moreover, another aspect to be considered and also falls into this category, is the diversity of weapons and comrades. You choose who accommodates you on your tour Mira. Recurrently new characters with different characteristics that you can ayudar.Y regarding weapons and equipment appear, there is a word that can summarize all vastness. There are weapons for all tastes and colors, even for wicks. Within the RPG genre, no doubt that this issue strengthens the image of the title. Conclusion Monolith Soft has done. Has taken up his sleeve a real great game that can fall perfectly in two words: perseverance and talent. I think that Xenoblade CX is a work of art which, despite having certain defects, remarkable gameplay tends to the invisible. Also, another term likewise falls within its characteristics, it is systematic. Fights to be long, level up is no easy task. You should seek and take the time to think about all those convenient ways to gain experience. Therefore, to finish at least the game's campaign, you must be consistent and systematic. Manner contrary recommend playing the old type shooter Call of Duty school. For the discerning and not casual gamer, this title should be essential, I recommend it 100%. Greetings to the community 3d Games.

It doesn't know if it wants to be an open-world game based on adventure, or a JRPG akin to the other games in the Xeno series, and ends up being some sort of strange and unique experiment that lies somewhere in the middle.

The games open-world has an incredible amount of secrets, enemies and items, and it will take hundreds of hours to explore every part of this insanely large world. However, is it fun to explore? That is a more difficult question. If a game is trying to encourage you to explore, it's expected that the movement is tight and you have the sufficient tools available to you so you can explore the world, but this is where Xenoblade Chronicles X fails. The movement in the game is clunky and loose. It feels like the exact same controls from the original Xenoblade Chronicles, but it does not work in an exploration focussed game. Even though you can explore everywhere on paper, most areas are blocked off by high-level enemies or difficult to navigate landscapes, and since you are not given the tools to sneak past them or overcome the harsh landscapes, like you should be, you must simply accept that you have to stay away until you've grinded enough fetch quests.

But, nevermind that. Let's talk about the other side of the coin, how about the usual JRPG/Xenoblade gameplay many fans have come to love? Well, much like how the open-world was hurt by the JRPG side, the JRPG side is hurt by the open-world side. Between every chapter, you MUST do some of the previously mentioned clunky exploration and sidequests before you can go into the next chapter. This hurts the pacing of the already subpar and uninteresting story. This game's story does not fit in at all when compared to Monolith's other works.

The last flaw i would like to touch on is the unintuitive and confusing UI, which you will end up having to spend a lot of time in. The text is far too small, and there is absolutely no other way to navigate this menu. I could see any part of the UI and wouldn't be able to tell you what it's purpose is, because everything looks the same. This may not be a huge problem if this wasn't a JRPG, which are very menu heavy games. It's alarmingly difficult to get to important screens and settings, that need frequent attention or you'll be completely left behind by the game. On top of this, it's too much of a hassle to frequently change equipment or check side quests. Having to open the menus in this game is the same feeling as having to swallow while you have a terribly sore throat.

If you compare this game to the other flagship open-world game on the Wii U, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you can really start to see the enormous flaws this game suffers. In Breath of the Wild, the snappy and simplistic UI helps you understand exactly what you need and what you can do with every item you receive. This gives players the motivation to explore with their empowering climbing and gliding abilities and applicable real-world knowledge. Meanwhile, Xenoblade Chronicles X FORCES you to explore, and without any of the fantastic mechanics or liberating movement that BotW offers.

Xenoblade Chronicles X does do a lot right, such as it's fairly accessible but rather deep combat, its beautiful views and its catchy soundtrack, but the very core of the game is so average that I can't justify giving this game anything higher than a 4/10.

You can also set any quest as your target for the map to direct you to the right area. The online features also do add to the game, particularly the multiplayer online quests and the global nemises. Sure, the music and story aren't as good as XC's, but they are still great and this game makes up for it with the online content and the introduction of skells, large mechs that make travelling large distances easier, and can strengthen you in combat as well. Overall, it may well be my favourite game of all time and obviously one I would recommend to any gamer, and yes, it is worth buying a Wii U just for this game.

Semplicemente maestoso.

It had a incredible story very well designed, the secundary missions are perfect but a little boring sometimes.
There is a lot, a lot, a LOT of secondary missions, that dont only give you money and xp, they explain new things of the game. Graphically, its **** awesome.

You could also potentially choose to button mash fights if you wanted to with easier skill trees or provide yourself with a challenge and highly customize yourself and your team mates. I think the breadth and depth of customisability of characters and 'dolls'/mechs keeps you engaged, along with the absolutely stunning landscapes. Some fights can get a bit repetitive...but hey...its a jrpg...I have a lot of fun with this one and will likely pick it up again later for another round. Expand

This game is not intuitive, that I can assure, but you'll feel self-realized the first time to get how the combat works, what element is stronger, how to properly attack an enemy, etc. It is not self-explanatory and you'll rarely see tutorials, most of the time you'll end up uncovering things about the game mechanics and that is an achievement by itself.

Visually it is impressive, but character animations are a little bit stiff, you won't get many loading screens while exploring, unless you use the fast-travel function and the draw line won't be a problem until you get your flying module for the Skell.

Installing the data packages from the Nintendo eShop is highly recommended, as you'll notice an improvement in loading times and NPC popups.

This is a must-have game for those who own a Wii U.

Unlike other games in the series, I did find this one to be harder. That might be due to the need to grind mats and the fact the endgame is completely a DPS race. This makes the choice in classes pointless from my point of view. I know people like the ability to just take traits from other classes and make someone to nuke everything. Unfortunately, that is what the endgame devolved into and what you seemingly need to do in order to kill the boss. Different from 2, where you tank till you nuke them with orbs. Which brings me to another point, keeping agro is harder in this game than the others it seems. As someone you likes to tank and whittle down health this is an annoyance, doubly so due to the need to nuke your enemies.

I didn't like Elma and Lin was okay. The fact that I was forced to keep them in my party was a problem. There are a lot of other characters we can use, but we really only have one slot that we can use due to being forced to use those two. Lin was not very useful, either, due to the tanking issues I mentioned earlier.

The world is big and I did enjoy exploring it, though I did die a lot. The music was the best in the series. I still listen to it to be honest.

The story was enjoyable but there was a lot of focus on Elma and Lin due to the player character being a custom character. Given my prior statements on those two, my opinion on how they affected the story should be obvious.

Overall, I did enjoy the game quite a bit, but the illusion of options when you actually get railroaded in many areas is annoying. The censorship didn't really help much and was questionable. I would probably give it a 7.

    1. This is the biggest video game I have ever played, in terms of scale and the amount of content. At first it was quite overwhelming, but once I got used to its size, all was good.
    2. The story is highly interesting with its twists and turns. Character development is really great and lends itself greatly to the development of the story.
    3. All missions help with the understanding of each character, irrespective of how small a role they play. In this way, each mission feels like something is being achieved upon completion.
    4. The continents might house the most cliche environments of all time (grass world, forest world, desert world, ice world, fire world), but the level of detail in each really makes each environment feel alive. For example, Oblivia (the desert world) has a huge quantities of debris strewn all over the land. Old parts of machines and spacecrafts can be seen from many miles away.
    5. The atmospheric details are fantastic. Auroras at nighttime, sandstorms, snowstorms, and even meteor showers!
    6. The battle system is interesting to say the least. It took me a long while to adjust to the battle system and get a feel for what's going on. I'd never played the previous game in the series and hadn't experienced a battle system quite like this one. Now that I know how it works, it would say that it's not the best battle system ever, especially for the start of the game. As the game picks up a bit and gets a bit more difficult, you need to strategise effectively. Go in all guns blazing and you could suffer severe consequences.
    7. Skells take too long to acquire. They take even longer to fly with. But the experience is phenomenal once you're finally able to soar through the skies. The soundtrack when you fly is pretty great, too. Which reminds me...
    8. The music in this game is amazing for the most part. I only have two problems with the music as a whole. Firstly, the music for New LA is pretty bad. It's made worse by the fact that you're in that area for a lot of the game. Vocals are seriously unneeded in those two songs (one for day, one for night) and this can really grate on your ears after just a few listens. The second thing is that the music sometimes plays way too loudly when cutscenes are going on, making it hard to hear the characters. Monolith Soft forgot to add in a volume slider, which sucks. But these are only small problems. On the other side of the scale, the music from Oblivia and Sylvalum (the ice world) is the best in the game in my opinion. Maybe I think that because those tracks lack vocals, I'm not sure. But I don't ever really prefer music with vocals in my video games anyhow.
    9. There is always something to do. Apart from missions and exploring, you can also go around collecting items and trying to fulfil the requirements of each of the little segments of the map on your FrontierNav. It's seemingly endless!
    10. For some missions you need to be well affiliated with other characters. This can take some time, but adds another layer of complexity to the game, making every battle you spend with characters important in getting them to like you a bit more. And we all like to be liked, don't we?

Overall, Xenoblade Chronicles X is not a perfect game. But it is more than worthy of a 10 out of 10. It's sheer volume and immersion make it one of the best games I've ever played. And given all of the stuff you can do in it, it will keep you entertained for a very long time to come.

I'm still not quite sold on the character models, I'm not sure if I just don't like the style or if it's graphical limitations put on by the scale of the world. They just look odd is all. Be prepared to be overwhelmed by the games size as well. The game is massive in size and length, it will take you about 25-30 hours before you get the much hyped mech-suit in the game. It's worth it, but the lead-up to finally get it is one of the most painful things about the game. The story was interesting, but told in perhaps the stiffest way possible, with some dramatic moments under-utilized. The inventory could also be a tad bit more streamlined IMO.

But if you can will yourself through that, you will be treating yourself to one of the best games the Wii U library has to offer. And honestly I'd rather take a game with to much passionate ambition for its own good, that one where the creators feel that the bare minimum effort is somehow “good enough”.

Whilst you can do this in X, it is very limited, especially with a relatively silent protagonist. I think the game wanted to take a Western-RPG (think Fallout) approach but when it comes to JRPGs, most people are interested mainly in the story and the characters.

However, the gameplay is improved over the original in terms of battles and classes and there are plenty of combinations. Not to mention how great the world looks graphically, as did the original at the time. Great game overall but if you haven't played the original, I highly recommend you do so.

Positional attacksXenoblade Chonicles X is an intricate and well done story with some not so good mechanics behind it. Combat involves no skill of any kind, simply press your attacks and wait for them to recharge before pressing them again. Hopefully you kill your opponent before they kill you. The only movement in combat that matters is being close enough to hit with short-range attacks. Positional attacks are unreliable because no matter how you position yourself, the enemy moves as well. If your enemy can't move, it's because of skills you have equipped, in other words preparation not execution.

Unlocking skells is amazing. they allow greater movement options and provide tremendous power for combat. At the same time, movement in vehicle form as atrocious and movement in skell form is impossible because the skell takes up the entire screen. For that reason, combat with the skell is an exercise in frustration because you literally can't see anything except part of the metal frame. As awesome as it could have made combat, all it really does is trade the visual appeal of personal combat for the high-speed efficiency of skell combat.

The other flaw with combat is targeting. No matter how hard you try, the target of your attacks can not be controlled with any level of ease. This is huge problem for clusters of enemies if you want to target a specific one first. Instead of cycling through available targets, it just selects one and won't let you pick another until the selected enemy is completely off screen. If you want to target something right next to the selected target, you're just out of luck. This is particularly obnoxious in boss fights when you just want to kill the support units so you can focus on the boss later. Or if there are two boss units and you want to attack one but not the other.

Outside of the combat mechanics though, this is an engaging and captivating story that is tremendously enjoyable to experience. Anyone with the chance should give this game a try.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Definitely a must-have for your Wii U Library. The scale of this game is absolutely gigantic, and I don't just mean the open world aspect. The game is truly challenging; providing you with a variety of hundreds, if not thousands, of side missions to keep me busy while I grind for the next story chapter. Each side mission is unique and interesting with little to no repetitiveness. The combat is interesting and unique as well in that sense; the Xenoblade fighting system definitely brings a breath of fresh air to the (J)RPG genre.

The dialogue is well-voiced and frankly hilarious at times. One issue I do have with the game is that the music tends to overpower the characters' voices a lot of the time; however the subtitles make that experience less uncomfortable for me.

The game also has this tendency to push the multiplayer aspect onto the player; however this is easily dealt with by simply selecting the "Immersive Single-Player" mode when loading up your game.

The story is captivating, making you wonder "what's going to happen next?" after every story mission/chapter. Initially, one might think that simply playing the story missions makes for an unsatisfactory story experience. This is where the Affinity Missions come into play. All across the overworld, one can find markers for "Affinity Missions", missions that are just like any other gathering/boss hunting mission; except with some story on the side. This game is designed to have you play the Affinity Missions in order to achieve the true quality of the game's story.

Each character you play as also has his or her fair share of development and intriguing backstory. This leads me to another gripe about the game, the characters you are essentially 'forced' to have on your team. There are two characters, Elma and Lin, who are required to be on your team for almost every story mission/chapter. This concept is in the game for obvious reasons, those two characters have most of the main speaking roles in the game's dialogue; and also spoiler plot reasons that I won't go into. This doesn't necessarily bother me, as I think Lin and Elma are a joy to have around, both dialogue and gameplay-wise. However, I can see someone who isn't particularly into "happy-go-lucky 13 year old Chinese girl" or "stick-in-the-mud 29 year old boss". The game has its fair share of great characters to play with and as, it's definitely a shame you can't take them on more story missions due to plot reasons.

The soundtrack is amazing, I instantly downloaded the whole album as soon as I clocked in about 2 or 3 hours of gameplay. The balance between orchestrated epics for large-scale boss fights and foot-tapping hip-hop for casually wandering around New Los Angeles really immerses you in the game.

The combat follows its predecessor's style with the combat arts system. To me, the concept of using skills that will gain additional effects depending on your relation to the enemy or other factors of the battle is amazing. Every battle (no matter your level) requires a great deal of concentration and strategizing, as well as a strain on your multi-tasking bone. Even when you unlock your Skell (A giant robot unlocked later in the game), the fights are still difficult to manage and definitely the challenge that some RPG players are looking for.

Every fight is made into an epic, no matter the scale of your enemy, thanks to the amazing soundtrack.

Exploring the overworld is easy enough on foot, with the exception of being unable to reach certain heights without the use of the Skell later on in the game. Each area of the game's world is beautifully designed and rich with a unique and diverse collection of creatures to fight and interact with.

I find myself still playing the game for hours on end, never finding myself bored or without something to do.
Like I said, definitely a must-have for the Wii U's library. If you're interested in the game, but have to purchase the console just to play, definitely go for it.

Easily my most anticipated game of 2015 (once it became clear that Zelda Wii U would be delayed, possibly until hell freezes over), Xenoblade Chronicles X is a triumph of a game; albeit one that doesn’t quite match the emotional sweep of its predecessor.

I’m 45 hours into Xenoblade Chronicles X and somehow it feels like I’ve barely scratched the surface. The game’s spiritual predecessor, Xenoblade Chronicles, was a game of grandiose proportions, throwing you into twisting labyrinths one minute and onto shimmering cliff tops the next. You never knew what was around the corner.

It’s a testament to MonolithSoft and Nintendo that this game manages to top that. It’s huge. Like really huge. The game starts with your avatar (complete with dubious character creation system) waking up with no memory on an alien planet, in the process ticking an enormous box on the JRPG cliché checklist. Rescued by the largely stone-faced Elma, you are taken to the game’s central hub, New Los Angeles, where you embark on the path to becoming a BLADE soldier. The road to BLADE success involves completing missions, bashing huge dinosaur-like monsters, planting data probes, helping residents with often seemingly petty tasks and collecting items. A BLADE even manages to find time to rescue lost cats occasionally, much like an inter-galactic fireman.

Making a name for yourself and building affinity with characters in the world matters, and unlocks the ability to take on bigger and better missions. There are at least ten playable characters, although not all of them will keep your attention for long.

It’s the planet Mira that is the game’s unique selling point though. Each of the game’s five continents are enormous, with hidden caves and scenic vantage points to explore. The game is graphically a triumph, pushing the Wii U to its limit.

The battle system is Xenoblade Chronicle X’s other trump card. Gamers familiar with the original will find themselves immediately at home with the game’s combat system, in which colour-coded arts, each with a set cool-down period are used by a team of characters, interspersed with weaker-auto attacks.

There are classes to specialise in, buffs and debuffs to use, armour to equip, weaknesses to exploit, appendages to destroy, skills to equip and plenty of levelling up. MonolithSoft have even made the weather a variable factor in battle. It’s a completionist’s dream, or worst nightmare, depending on your point of view. Most importantly though, the whole battle system is great fun.

The difficulty curve is pretty much spot on, although if you’re not familiar with the game’s predecessor, frequent consultation with the manual will be needed.

Xenoblade is the kind of game that can leave you wondering where the last five hours of your life have gone. This is both a blessing and a curse for the game.

At times the game can feel slow and stilted, and at its worst, it can be a downright chore. The pacing of the game early on is poor, and the gamer is forced to wait until at least twenty hours in before the game really starts to open up. A particularly annoying feature is that certain missions stop the player progressing until they are completed. It makes what should be fun side-distractions unnecessarily cumbersome.

Story-wise, the game falls down too. The original game had a grand narrative sweep which captivated the player from start to finish, starting off as a cliché, before twisting and turning in impossible directions. Yet in the sequel, the narrative plods along. Little is revealed, and the characters are at worst uninteresting canvasses. MonolithSoft have focused on the exploration element of Xenoblade Chronicles X, which is understandable. Yet, without the game’s depth, battle system and beauty, it could have become a chore.
The game’s music, while largely good, is at times infuriating. Cut sequences can be ruined by unnecessarily loud background tracks, while the rap and rock tracks that invade parts of New LA soon become repetitive and irritating.

These are largely minor gripes. While the game irritates occasionally, when you’re running across the plains of Mira, pursuing an enormous foe, you can forgive all its flaws. The sheer scale and depth of Xenoblade Chronicles X is a staggering achievement that makes the player want to come back time and time again. MonolithSoft have created a fantasy world that astounds and delights. It’s just a shame that they didn’t give the storyline the same care and attention.

When a game is as downright fun as Xenoblade Chronicles X, it’s impossible not to get sucked in. No other game has taken forty hours of my life since...well, the last Xenoblade Chronicles.

But that’ll do for now. I’m off to get my skell license.

As I haven`t been able to finish the story yet, because of technical issues with my game disk, I won`t write anything about it.
+ The graphics are really good for the WiiU
    + The landscape is beautiful
+ The world is HUGE and has few loading zones
+ Some of the music is beautiful (example; some of the overworld themes)
+ The monsters you fight are cool looking
+ Character and Skell customization is deep and cool (mostly for your own character)
+ completely different continents that are all huge and has some variety of monsters.
    + Unique combat system
+ Skells are cool (but a bit wonky to control in driving mode)

    - Some of the music is not very good (example: NLA music)
    - Some jokes are too overused
    - A lot of pop-in (enemies especially annoying)
    - Your character`s voice isn`t heard too often (only during battles)
    - Some loading times are a pain
    - Skells are either too weak or too strong at some points.
    - You have to figure EVERYTHING out yourself about the battle system(s)
    - No volume options, music sometimes is too loud during conversations, making it difficult to hear people speak sometimes.
    - Waaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy too many fetch quests
    - Waaayyyyyy too many "talk to this person and return" quests
    - Very hard to find certain materials as there is no way to know where they appear.
    - Over/underused characters

Overall that is not all of the things I experienced so far, but writing a list of all the things would take forever, I like the game quite a bit despite its flaws.

The soundtrack is also fantastic but the sound mixing can be a bit off at times with the music being louder than the characters talking in cutscenes. The gameplay itself isn't the deepest an RPG has had but is definitely fun and engaging. The battle system can be deep if you want it to be by defaulting multiple attacks and moves but it is definitely not a complex system. The skell (giant mechs) gameplay is just as enjoyable as on foot gamplay and something about piloting a giant robot around a big open world is oddly charming. The story isn't exactly booker prize worthy but will keep your interest for long enough. The strategical mining simulator played with the gamepad is also a fun distraction but can at times be frustrating. Overall, good graphics, good story, great gameplay and great soundtrack. A game definitely worth having if you have a Wii U. Expand

I generally stay away from RPGs because I know how much time they consume and require unbroken attention so the player doesn't forget the intricacies of the game's systems, but this game is truly worth it.
The world is, if I'm not mistaken, the largest non-procedurally generated and non-MMO game world in the history of console gaming, and that's only a good thing. On foot there is plenty to see and do in all areas of the vast planet and when driving a mech, countless new possibilities are open. Not only is the world enormous and packed with content, but there is incredible verticality to it, so it's surface area is even larger than the map would have you believe. The perfect running speed and use of mechs make traversing the world easy and never feel like a chore, which is an amazing design victory.
The combat system is strategic yet fast paced and not turn based, meaning that it doesn't feel like you're wasting your life playing a game, instead it feels thrilling and exciting, every battle is enjoyable and worth your time.
The monsters themselves are incredible, the variety is enormous and it's a wonder when you see each one for the first time.
I played the story alongside many many side quests, so it took a total of 180 hours for me to complete the main story. The flaw in the story is its disappointing pacing. I was immersed in it and really enjoying it until it suddenly ended 180 hours into the game when I thought I was only halfway through.
Whilst it's a negative that the story ends abruptly and fails to live up to its build up, the truly amazing thing is that after 180 hours of playing, I still thought I had another hundred hours to go and was fully excited to play through it, the game still hadn't gotten old after all this time.
Besides the story, there are three other flaws:
The enemy draw distance is quite bad. It's not a problem on foot, but when driving a mech fast, enemies can spawn when you're just a few meters from them causing you to run into them when you don't want to, triggering an unwanted encounter. Fair enough though, the game is graphically beautiful and this is one of the shortcuts that was taken to allow that.
Another flaw, giant locust type enemies that camouflage themselves and jump out at you... why?!
Do they not know an enormous amount of people can't stand these kinds of creatures :S oh well, I looked past it as they're ultimately only one of many other creatures, so they're not too common.
The final flaw: the amount of grinding needed to be able to get the best gear setups is ridiculous.
Without doing it, you can't face the game's legendary monsters and live to tell the tale, so personally, I ended up passing on this. I never defeated some of the epic monsters I had been seeing as I played the game but it's OK, there's only a handful of these guys out there and honestly they're amazing enough just to look at.
One last flaw before I forget, before the final boss, you will be asked twice if you'd like to proceed. Say no, and save the game, this is crucial. If you fail at defeating the final boss, you will not be able to go back and change gear or train your character. You will have to fight the boss again as you are until you beat them. If you aren't ready, the only way to go back and change gear or train is to turn off the game and go back to your last save before starting the boss battle. This is a stupid design flaw in the game, really stupid.
Despite the flaws I've listed, I can't give this game less than 10/10.
What it does right is just so incredible that this game deserves to be in the top league of all games ever made. I can recommend very few other games as much, let alone more, than Xenoblade Chronicles X.

The gameplay is such a step up from the original Xenoblade on Wii(makes the first feel like a beta version), the soundtrack is by Hiroyuki Sawano(Gundam Unicorn, Attack on Titan, Blue Exorcist; need I say more?), and the characters are great if you take the time and energy to invest into uncovering their personalities and backgrounds through the affinity missions. The moment you pilot a skell for the first time is an awakening and keeps the game exciting for many, many more hours.

The art direction is something that deserves a ton of praise. This is by far the most beautiful Wii U game, and a game that would look right at home on any other current gen console. The design of the world is completely alien, yet feels realistic. There are always incredible sights to see and new areas to explore. Even when I got my first skell about 30 hrs in, I had only surveyed about 8% of the entire map, and hadn't even stepped foot into 2 of the 5 continents, Sylvalum and Cauldros.

To sum it all up, if you have a Wii U, why are you reading this review? Go buy this game and play it! And if you DON'T have a Wii U... umm, I guess all I can say is what's wrong with you?

It's at the 30 hour mark you will fully unlock the capability of your Skell when you take it to the skies.

Perhaps the strongest suit of Chronicles X is that it can still amaze you 20-hours in. While most games may have shown all of their colours, Chronicles X really starts to shine once you unlock your Skell, which is no easy feat. Reaching the point where you're able to partake the license can take awhile, and then you still need to do an eight piece optional quest in order to obtain your towering mech.

Getting back to fidelity, it's amazing just how much of it is rendered on the screen, it's simply overpowering at times when you reach a proper viewpoint to admire your surroundings. Just strolling about is something that can entertain you for hours, if you're beat from the tons of battles you have to partake in. In short, Chronicles X is a massively multiplayer online game, meant for those that want the scale from such games, but not the social aspect. Players are not forced to partake in multiplayer activities, but can still reap some of the benefits.

Just make sure that when you decide to boot Chronicles, you have a long stretch. It's not a game you can easily pick up and play for short bursts.

Something very similar to Xenoblade Chronicles X, the Wii U's "must-buy" game for the holidays. The problem with this game though is that for every good thing it does, there's a horrible decision that follows, making a vicious cycle for anyone trying to play it. Combat is very similar to an MMO, with the player only deciding on when to use special attacks and positioning. However that is almost ruined by the horrible camera angles that make seeing something you want to hit almost impossible on the larger units. The story is good but is severely bogged down by fetch quests, which the game doesn't even tell you where to go 90% of the time to find the items you're looking for. You almost have to have a device with the internet to look up where various items are or you'll never be able to find them. The world is massive and there's lots to do but the graphics are terrible and the pop-in, whether it be terrain or NPC's, is absolutely terrible and some of the worst I've seen in a long time on both fronts. I could go on and on with this game but you get the idea now. However the biggest take away I had from this whole thing was that it was fun. People who don't like MMO's though will not like this. Lots of grinding and the battle system is not very interactive. But I enjoy stuff like that so I had fun. You just wonder what this game could have been on another platform that could actually handle games like this, especially on the PC. As it stands, Xenoblade Chronicles X is just a middle of the road game that some people will like and certainly isn't that must have item for the system like Nintendo needed it to be.
