Although it may not be the best Zelda game ever made, that doesn't stop Breath of the Wild from being a masterpiece. Definitely the best game on wii u. One of the main reasons Breath of the Wild is such a good game is its uniqueness: never before in a Zelda game has there been so much exploration. I can't imagine how much time it must take to finish the game at 100%. I can't imagine how much time it must take to finish the game at 100%. Breath of the Wild also borrows many things from Skyward Sword (which is definitely a good thing, because Skyward Sword did everything right!): the stamina bar, the shields that break, upgradable items, the temple of time with the statue of the goddess... I won't say anymore to avoid spoilers. Breath of the Wild is definitely the hardest Zelda game, you are going to die A LOT! I have waited for this game ever since the e3 2014 when they showed its first trailer, and I haven't been disappointed! Expand

Freedom and exploration are perhaps the best gameplay aspects, without leaving behind the sheer amount of actions possible: cooking, riding horseback, climbing... Whether you actually beat the story is also up to you, there is so much to invest in this game you might never grow bored of it.

Within this world there is something for everyone. 120 different shrines make up for the lack of traditional dungeons and off some of the most thought out puzzles yet. Combat is simple but satisfying. After playing many modern RPG games it is a relief to say that I go into battles not looking to gain experience and instead just trying to have fun! The graphics and art style are beautiful and the occasional 5 frame drop never ruins the experience enough to be a sin. The music while is not as epic as before, serves it's purpose and fits the tone of the game perfectly. The main quest is mostly the same, but almost every character in this game is likable and worth caring for even if the voice-acting is average at best. There is so much to do in this game and after playing 80 hours, I can say I will easily spend 100 more exploring it's vast open-world and uncovering many secrets. Expand

Well it's not good. It's stellar. It's undoubtedly the best open world to date. The game gives a degree of freedom that no game, retro, modern, AAA or indie has ever given yet. You can do anything, in any order. Most signature possibilities of the serie (legendary items, important characters) live alongside more modern ARPG features (equipments and armor, choice when levelling up, "respec) but they're not given out to you in an easy to access menu or displayed obviously on the map and available in every city. No you get to explore a huge world that's living and get these features as you discover the world. The weapons you get are gradually better through probably a pretty smart system that's nearly invisible (honestly, it's mostly just you taking on more dangerous enemies with better drops.

And it all works logically. Cooking is logical and often yields the results you expect once you understand how it works, enemies ALWAYS drop their equipment, it's not random, the physic system is absolutely wonderful.

The story, while not overly present, is more than decent, decent enough for a Zelda game. And let's face it, it had to be quite absent and in the background. That's the only way so much freedom could work. You wouldn't be wandering the world for tens of hours without accomplishing a single quest line if you had any primary quest to follow with a single target to go to. Most completionists end up still doing the main quests before anything else in ARPGs. Doing this prevents this. You are greeted soon enough by the very main quest, but the game openly tells you "go in this place OR this place OR this place OR this place". And even if you don't plan on doing any wandering first, you will most probably end up doing some anyway.

So yes, yes the game deserves a 10. For giving the biggest freedom a game ever has, one of the most actually lively world, and one that will not be equaled before probably the next mainline Zelda (I still hope "secondary" Zelda will keep the standard pattern with maybe some inspiration from BotW, and mainline go the BotW with enhancements, if that's even possible).

Yeah the game is not the future super realistic PBR game, but seriously, if you play video games for the fun of it, who cares ? To be honest, realistic graphics are getting really dull by now. When I play games like this Zelda I almost have a hard time going back to realistic or pseudo realistic looking games because of how awfully bland that looks.

No hype: BoTW is a stellar game. It is a video game, thought out on such a level, most can't communicate or accept this Opus. It is a Swan Song to gaming.

This sort of gaming, not based on OCD, list-checking performance goals and gambling theory, has become a relic, a blimp of what gaming was between the Arcade era and the now online era. This game reinvents gaming, by simply, being a well crafted GAME.

What makes BoTW such a GAME? It's breath of course, is considerably more than we've seen before. Not only is it a boggling game world, but the density and detail is by far and above any contemporaries. The amount of brush-stroke-to-canvas, hands-on detail found in this game rivals any triple A and any indie title to date.
From physics, to incorporating existing Zelda combat-mechanics, unto the shear scope and newtonian reactions of the animations, this game is quality. It is not just another stretched and swathed over landscape with icons, narrativeless procedural game-scripts, and little interaction, but it is exactly what we thought last gen was going to promise.

The best analogy is the wonderment we collectively felt for RDR, but even that game was shallow and thin, where Zelda is constantly surprising you with depth and consistency. For instance, I spent a considerable period trying to tame horses, when others were doing it in minutes at the stable near Hetano , I spent 7 collective hrs on a plateau above the region. I used stealth, endurance, and stamina potions and an extra bar of stamina, from horse to horse and the same horse over and over, but constantly met the fate of bucks to the ground. I came back the next day to the area, spent 10 min, and was able to tame that same very heard, some of whom looked identical to the ones the night before. Perhaps it was a glitch, or my tactics although unaltered the second time, were incorrectly applied, but the fact is, for all the tedium, I wanted those horses, and the game remembered the time and effort.

Those horses all had great stats and one of them turned out to be one of the monster horses in the game, so the work was worth the reward. What I was doing, the tedium, was rewarded with better horses and actually never felt like tedium. It wasn't reminiscent of those procedural quest in DAI. It was a fluid mechanic and I felt compelled to do it because of desire for a horse and transportation, not to fill time on my game playing schedule. That's a microcosim of what and how this game operates, and a rather poor one, because much of the game is so memorable and novel so consistently. It's hard to hark back to ex, because of how organic and fantastical the elements of the game world fluently interact.

In regards to review artist complaints, they are unfounded and should be ignored by the consumer. Sterling gave a less than precise indictment of BoTW. His review is a perfect example, like some users, that what is being critiqued isn't this game, but it is being made an example of for the industry as a whole. Due to the content of Sterling's critique, this leaning is toward a continual industry status quo.

The procedural aspects of BoTW, the food cooking, resource collection, weapon deterioration, horse catching and retrieval, stamina during climbs and swims, all are inter-dependent of the other, and work in such an organic, streamlined fashion, the action is rather all ways organic, contextual, and engrossing. Figuring out how to rpg climb up mtn ranges, with the stamina bar acting as a diminishing ticker minigame (and actual mechnics to climb), makes for some highly satisfying traversal, sky-boxes, and topographical depth to exploration. Rather than slip slides, glitches between walls, and falls, you are in control of your able-bodied vehicle, Link, and not glitching your way to exploration. As well the amount of weapons and their incorporated styles, means for action packed survival escapade, where weapons are always in supply, but availability and usefulness, all readily based on the user's skill in the heat of action.

Addressing Wiiu performance issues, the most I have seen is late pop-ins of npcs, never second long frame-rate or controller lags. The game is consistently beautiful throughout all environmental interactions and looks like the WiiU's swansong, just like it feels. In essence, scores demeaning this game based on performance are false critiques, and do not judge this game and it's ability but the anit-wiiu thesis. If these problems aren't consistent on my WiiU, then they are not consistent malfunctions in the actual software. My 60+ hours in, glitches and crashes are not apparent.

Resource collection is useful, rewarding, and easy, and the combination mechanic is entertaining and deep. The smallest mechanics, are fun, glitch free, and rewarding, but mostly they are all conducive to gaming and being in a game, even though they readily interact like fluid nature. This is a GAME, not an imitation

Nintendo heard your complaints with Skyward Sword, and has done everything in their power to fix it. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely was in love with the game, and had a blast playing it. It had a lot of padding, some good, some absolutely WTF? (Looking at you tadtone trial which ironically I liked) but Breath of the Wild has set a new benchmark for the series and for gaming in general.

Skyrim was not a stellar game by any means, and people say Zelda is copying it (yes, an open world game from 1986 is copycat) then you know nothing about video games. I find it hilarious how people are actually falling for the fail trolls. It's either A) hilarious because I admit to trolling because it's funny. B) not a Nintendo fan and upset that the most critically acclaimed video game of all time is once again a Zelda game.

With Breath of the Wild, you have an absolutely massive map filled with content that you will only find if you dig deep into every corner. I played for 22 hours until I even reached my first dungeon in Zora's Domain which is what you're advised to do very early on from leaving the Great Plateau. I have to say the dungeon design is the best in the series, although not theme based, it's use of physics and your runes are absolutely unique and incredible. I haven't felt so puzzled by a Zelda game since Majora's Mask or Ocarina of Time Master Quest. The combat for the first time in the 3D series I have actually avoided enemies because I accepted defeat. SS did have it's challenges, but even that game was undeniably simple when compared to this game.

I often find myself lost in the vast, gorgeous world and always attempting to try new things. Shrine searching can be difficult 40 shrines deep but can be rewarding, there are areas in the game you should not go to until you have a good number of hearts, stamina, and good gear. 30 hours in and you will still barely be in the zone for that. The shrines are one of the most fun parts, short mini-dungeons that creatively use the laws of physics and multi-tasking to get the most out of your brain. Nintendo isn't shy to challenge you and realizes not everyone is an idiot. (Looking at you Microsoft fans.)

The story, I won't spoil. But it is done very expertly as well. It's interesting, and always keeps you wanting more. After you are required to search out for your memories, I find it really unique. The first five memories I found were by carefully scouting the picture and realizing where that should be near. I saw Vah Medoh flying in the scenery, with the castle and a dry looking mountain area. I determined where that should be on my map and after a bit of exploration around my prediction, I found it. Others I found completely by coming across while journeying through the massive landscape. It truly is great.

All in all, this is the most definitive game in The Legend of Zelda series, and it is by far the greatest game of all time. Anyone who hasn't played this game, or doesn't like it because it's Zelda, has no idea what a phenomenal experience they are missing out on. Zelda has once again redefined video games.

It's amazing! I have probably put in close to 30 hours and I'm nowhere close to beating it. I am working on one of the four "dungeons" that the game offers and it seems like it is going to be a good one. It is also surprising how much depth the game offers for a world of its size, the game is full of fun small puzzles called shrines (on top of the dungeons) and is also filled with fun and quirky characters.

The combat system has also been remade, Enemies now deal more damage and don't drop health and your items are constantly breaking at the begging of the game which forces you to think out your attacks carefully and manage your supply.

Overall this game is a must buy whether your a Zelda fan or not and really shows what developers can do if there not afraid to change things up and In Nintendo's case it gave them a game which will be remembered forever in gaming history.

But that's not why you read this review you wanted to know how this runs on the Wii U compared to the Switch and I can safely day that this game runs smoothly and besides the first few minutes in the begging it kept a constant frame rate.Keep in mind that this game was original made for the Wii U so it is not a downgraded version of the game the switch is just a boosted version of the Wii U's This game is a must buy if you have a Wii U and does not require the switch to have the full experience.

Not a perfect game, there really is no such thing in my opinion, but Breath of the Wild is definitely one of the best games I've ever played. I'll admit that I am a long time Zelda fan-boy, starting in the year 2000 with Ocarina of Time, but I've seen several reviews from Zelda fan-boys who say "It's not Zelda 0/10! No dungeons only mini puzzles! Climbing simulator 2017! blah blah blah",Not a perfect game, there really is no such thing in my opinion, but Breath of the Wild is definitely one of the best games I've ever played. No dungeons only mini puzzles! Climbing simulator 2017! blah blah blah", but I believe that it certainly deserves the high ratings that it gets. Would it get so many 10/10's if it didn't have that Zelda name? Probably not, but the ratings would still be high.

One thing in particular that stands out to me is the distinct lack of guidance in this game. It is both a blessing and a curse. The main quest will tell you exactly where you need to go (the order and timing is up to you), but side quests leave a map marker only on the quest giver (mostly) and you are left with the directions that they gave you. It's up to your own intuition to complete these tasks. On one hand this is a refreshing change from the norm of many current games where you always feel like you are watching the map marker, following the golden trail, etc. Here, however, you follow your intuition, study the landscape, and figure things out for yourself which makes it that much more rewarding when you finish each quest. But it can also be frustrating, some quests can seem very vague and even frustrating. Overall I'd say I like this inclusion, but it won't be for everyone.

    Anyway, let's break this down.

    Pros:
    Large, varied open world
    Stunning visuals and vibrant colours
Dynamic weather system that affects environment (For example rain makes it hard to climb)
Hot and cold environments that require heat or cold resistances
    Absolute minimum of invisible walls
    Plenty of things to do
    Interesting side quests
    Fun verity of weapons
Many options for taking down enemies
No broken promises (looking at you Hello Games)
    Mostly good frame rate
Endless cooking options, mix up to five ingredients and see what happens!
Less guidance than most current games
Complete main dungeons in any order you want
Tame horses, bears, deer, a ghost horse thing!
Collectibles that I actually want to collect
An interesting backstory that you must hunt down piece by piece
    Many weapon types
    Shield surfing
The return, and appealing redesigns, of many awesome past races
Challenging minibosses scattered around the world
Minimal bugs, at least in my game, one of the most polished and bug free games I have played in some time

    Cons:
Frame dropping in some towns and thick forests, by no means unplayable, but a touch irritating (I don't care about 30 or 60 fps differences, I only care when it drops below 20)
Not much enemy variety, late game enemies are just different colours with higher health
Not many minibosses, only four types unfortunately. Could have really stood to have more
Only five real dungeons, four that are somewhat short and visually similar (albeit challenging and unique) and one final dungeon
Lack of tutorials for some non-essential, but fun mechanics (such as shield surfing)
Limited weapon, bow, and shield inventories. You can improve them as the game goes on, but it is slow.
Voice acting ranges from acceptable to terrible.
Don't expect good lip syncing, but remember that this game was made in Japan

Those cons did little to ruin my experience, and I struggle to think of more after my at least 60 hour playtime.

Some may not like the whole breakable weapons thing, but I think that they really encourage the player to try all different kinds of weapons. If weapons were unbreakable, I'd just pick up a sword and a boomerang and never bother with anything else, but in this game I find myself using all manner of weapons even those I usually avoid in other games, like hammers, axes and spears, and you'll hardly be starved of them since weapons are everywhere.

Honestly, if you love open worlds with a variety of stunning landscapes and plenty of adventure, if you love combining random foods to see what it makes, if you love thinking of something crazy and seeing if it works, and it does, then this is a game for you. If you're a Zelda purist, then you should probably play a different game.

The only downside in the game is probably the FPS issues but I don't really care if it drops sometimes, doesn't make the game any worse for me. Some say that the weapon durability is annoying and at the beginning of the game that may be true to some extent, although I didn't really think it bothered me that much, but later in the game it gets much better.

I'm truly surprised how they managed to make this game much more truly open world than other games. I could truly explore any place I wanted. Although there was one point where there was an invisible "wall" so to speak that didn't let me climb a mountain because the game world would end there. That didn't really bother me that much because it's understandable that the game world cannot go on forever.

There are problems in this game just like any game in existence. No game can be truly perfect. I can understand that some people didn't like this game at all, but hey, you cannot make a game that everyone will love. For me this is, right now, the game of the year.

Et juste magnifique, avec QUELQUES ralentissements parfois qui ne rompent en rien le plaisir de jeu.

I was very disappointed after playing Skyward Sword (the last 3d Zelda game released) which threw away almost every thing I loved about the series and was afraid that this game would fail my expectations. I could not have been anymore wrong.

The only bad thing I can think of is that the game sometimes the game has frame rate issues which is more of a problem with the hard ware rather than the game itself, but if you can look past them you'll be in for an experience that you will never forget nor ever have again

Breath of the Wild quickly became the best game I have ever played. A title that used to belong to Metal Gear Solid 5. A game that I thought could never be topped

If you are curious as to why the rating is low on Meta critic, it is because many people believe that Nintendo are paying for good reviews and haven't actually played the game themselves. If you are still unsure I recommend you look at some let's plays and reviews on YouTube, but remember this is a game best experienced blind

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a fantastic and fun game. I got it for the Wii-U because I have the Wolf-Link Amiibo, and absolutely love being able to summon him in as an in game companion. Plus, I don't have the money for a Switch right now anyways. Continuing...

Overall, this game is really great. Don't listen to those idiots trying to "bring score balance to an unfairly popular game" by giving it negatives. Seriously, if you do this just to "fight the power" or whatever your real reason is, maybe it is time to grow up.

LoZ: Breath of the Wild offers challenging combat, and brings a new meaning to exploration with the ability to climb and glide as you please. This is limited, however, by your stamina so it isn't easy to abuse. If you are clever and plan a climb right, you can reach almost any point visible in the game, high or low or in between. This is perhaps one of my favorite things about the game, and makes exploring feel almost irresistible. You see a far off location you want to reach, and you find yourself looking for the best way to traverse the terrain to reach it. Seriously fun if you enjoy exploring.

Combat is a challenge, it is shaken up by the fact that weapons now have a certain use limit before breaking. This means you can carry multiple weapons of each type, multiple shields, all varying in stats and move sets and usage. Enemies drop their weapons, so you can always keep your inventory full so you don't find yourself in a fight without a weapon (unless you neglect to maintain your inventory.) Larger and more powerful enemies can pose a serious risk, making you have to learn and adapt to their fighting style to succeed and survive.

You can forage and hunt for food and useful elixir making items, and then fry them up in different combinations to achieve different results and abilities. This is a particularly fun and easy system, which is important to learn to do the farther you go in game.

The only complaint I have, in all honesty, is the lack of direction. When you are released from the intro phase into the "Save the Four" quest, you are given the four locations of each race. This in and of itself is not the issue, the issue is there is no flow of difficulty. You can go anywhere at that point, the farthest reaches from where you are if you choose. And you WILL run into extremely strong enemies who glance at you and wreck you, because you have wandered into an area designed for a more advanced and well equipped hero. This is annoying at first, until you learn to scout out the enemies first.

On that note, Breath of the Wild also introduces a simplistic stealth capability with which you can actually assassinate enemies. This is a nice mechanic to have when exploring the aforementioned high level areas, making survivability much higher.

If you have ever enjoyed any Legend of Zelda game before, any open world exploration game, or pretty much any of the large world games release in the past 20 years, look into Breath of the Wild. I promise you won't be disappointed. This game is well worth the $60 dollar price tag, perhaps twice that. You won't regret it.

Not only did they put their own spin on the genre, but now they're a leader in it. After about 5 years of spin-offs and remakes on Wii U, Nintendo seems like they;re finally finding their footing again.

Before I start with my Review I just wanna say that I'd probably give this game a 9.6 maybe 9.7 and no straight 10. I've been playing it ever since it came out and it's already on my top 3 of Zelda games (and I'm not too fond of the 3D Zeldas so that's gotta mean something).

When my game arrived via mail I was skeptical. So skeptical even that a small part of me didn't wanna play the game so there is no disappointment to be had. But after watching two episodes of Mad Men I decided to finally start up the game. Even while playing at first I was skeptical. I was scared that everything you see in the first area of the game was everything the game had to offer but oh was I wrong.

The world is filled with crazy stuff. Just yesterday I decided to go to a place I've been at about a hundred times already but because I never looked into that one specific area of the place I completely missed a big (and really cool) bossfight. You just stumble upon interesting puzzles, items, shrines, challenges, side quests, etc. That way the world never feels empty. And might I just say that overworld puzzles are probably one of the best ideas this game has to offer? I am one of those girls who get bored easily by open-worlds. Most of the time they feel empty and when you wanna explore them you don't get rewarded and your motivation to explore in the first place is gone quicker than an ice cube on Death Mountain. But when in Zelda you come upon a weird rock formation, a lone pinwheel or even just a funny-looking lake you can be almost certain that something special awaits you. And because storyparts and cutscenes are way rarer than they are in Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword going around this huge world and doing stuff feels like an adventure again. No Navi or Phi holding your hand and the cutscenes that are there feel more like a treat than a chore. Because they aren't handed out to you, you have to work for them.

The Sandbox Elements of the game are really impressive. If I had to compare the Sandboxyness of Breath of the Wild I would compare it to Metal Gear Solid 3. After I got stuck in one dungeon I looked up a walkthrough (which didn't help me in the end) and there was one part that many people did in a completely different way. Because of Stasis, Magnesis, Remotecontrolled Bombs and all of the other skills and items Link gains throughout the game you can pursue most situations in thousands of different ways. The integration of a stealth system was a positive surprise for me, too. It's not on the same level a Metal Gear is but it's pretty good for an open world rpg. If you are hiding in grasses, bushes, shadows, etc. you won't be seen as easily but you also have to look out for the sounds you make. The sounds you make change with every piece of clothing and weaponry you have equipped and those sounds actually have an impact. And while it rains or it's really windy the sounds you make of course go under. I really like that whole system but it gets obsolete at some point. In the early game where Link is still weak doing stealth sometimes becomes mandatory but the more you play the easier the game gets.easier and at some point barely anyone or anything is a threat anymore. The only thing that is a threat to this game is the bad motion controls. Whenever I encounter a Shrine that uses motion controls in their puzzles I release a loud sigh and then proceed to try and beat this thing, which doesn't really use any skill but more luck that your motion controls don't suddenly stop working properly. I heard it's better on the Switch but I can't say much about it. The other "bad" thing that becomes noteable very early in the game are the games framerate issues. Apparently the performance got patched a little with the Day 0 patch but the framerate issues still exist. Normally a bad framerate is enough for me to give up a game but with a game like this you can easily overlook its flaws. There are some flaws and glitches I noticed but as said before they don't really take anything away and I doubt Nintendo will leave the game unpatched.

Let's talk about the music and the sounddesign. As I am a sounddesigner and musician myself this is one of the most important points for me. And Breath of the Wild's music and sounds haven't disappointed at all. Most of the music gives you a peaceful, lonely and melancholic vibe which is a new thing for Zelda. Its simplistic melodies played mostly by only one instrument alone underlines the feeling of the vastness of this world. It feels empty (of life not of gameplay like damn there's so much stuff to do) but not in a sad way. But there's still those songs with a classic Zelda-vibe, which are great, too! And the sounds are just perfect. I recommend playing the game with headphones because the sound environment just draws you into this world even more. It all fits each other and not one sound effect seems out of place.

All in all this game is just one single big masterpiece.

Since Nintendo announced BoTW I always had my doubts. Personally I never enjoyed the cartoon style the latest Zelda games have featured. But after spending over 100 hours in this game so far I am loving every thing bit of it and I'm still not finished. ( I've completed the game but reloaded my save file before the final boss in order to continue playing and exploring. )

The story is now definitely one of my favourites in the long running series. The first time I stepped foot inside the ruins of Castle Town honestly made me feel nothing but sadness and each time I go back to fight against the Guardians to farm ancient gear so I can buy more ancient arrows ( they are a must! ) I still feel quite sad. This game makes you feel emotions for pixels, that is how well it's been made!

The weapon system does take some time to get to grips with. So take your time with it and your get to grips how it works in no time. The shrines offer challenges and rewards, one shrine may feature an extremely hard puzzle that makes you sit back for 10 minutes and really think of how to solve it. While others will just give you the Spirit Orb or rare item as if to say " Well done, here you go, enjoy." I've still got around 50 left to find.

Clothing system is okay, my only complaint is, there should have been a new green tunic. Don't get my wrong the Blue Champion outfit is nice and new and exciting but I don't fancy paying £20 for the TP Link amiibo to unlock the TP tunic...but I did and now I love it and it makes me even more excited to play the game.

I do wish Nintendo would starting allowing us to continue playing after defeating the final boss, again, it will restart the game which in a way ruins it for me, since it would make sense to allow us to feel like we achieved something while continuing to explore Hyrule.

BoTW sits next to OoT as perhaps two of the greatest games of all time. I can not recommend it enough.

    It's almost perfect.

This game is not your run-of-the-mill Zelda game, and that is really a good thing. It takes many of the conventions that started in some of the earlier games and either completely removes them or improves on them.

First and foremost, this game gives you all the tools you need throughout the game within the first hour or so. From there, it lets you go do whatever you want. Want to follow the main quest tracker? Go ahead. Want to find out what that giant flying thing is way off in the distance? Run for it! Want to try storming the final boss right off the bat? Sure, good luck! There is so much freedom in this game, and with only a small handful of exceptions, you can go anywhere right off the bat. Only once or twice have I found a challenge that required me to complete something in the main story first to unlock its secret.

As for the main story, I absolutely loved it. I want to keep this review spoiler free, so I won't go into the details of the story itself, but there were times where I started tearing up and considered making my assault on the final boss before finishing the rest of the story. I loved all the main cast of characters. They each had their own personality that made them distinct, and I even appreciated the one character that got on my nerves due to their attitude towards the events of the story and towards Link himself.

The gameplay is actually pretty unique for a Zelda game. They have improved on every aspect of combat and exploration in the series. At first, I was a little concerned that your weapons, shields, and bows all had durability, but it actually helps overall. You have to go into each fight with a strategy. You have to think about your inventory and decide whether it's worth fighting that pack of bokoblins for what could be in that chest or if you'll end up worse for wear due to the encounter. If you're skilled enough to perform some of the more advanced combat techniques (which the game will teach you if you explore enough and find the correct shrines), you can go into combat with some more confidence, as long as you know you've got weapons that will last the encounter. There's also so many small details about how Link interacts with the environment that makes everything that much more enjoyable. You have to think about what you're wearing when entering certain environments or weather conditions. Wooden items will combust in the extreme heat, and metal items will conduct electricity in thunderstorms. Enemies are also much smarter than in previous games, which in turn makes the game that much more difficult. I normally pride myself on completing Zelda games with zero deaths, especially in the titles that keep track of how many times you see the Game Over screen. In my first time through the game, which took about 30-35 hours of play over the course of the first week of release of the game, I actually lost count of how many times I died. This game is not easy, but I will argue that it is fair, and that there are no deaths that seemed to come out of nowhere. I knew that trying to climb a tower protected by super-powerful Guardians would require a good amount of skill, but I never expected to die 10 or more times trying to climb it, only to keep failing and opt to attempt it another time.

Graphically, this game is beautiful. I absolutely love the art style of the game. While the resolution of the game is only 720p at 30 FPS, I never minded that. To me, visuals should enhance and enrich the gameplay and story, and this title does that perfectly. Each of the landscapes is beautiful and fun to explore. The shrines are a very unique style that is so completely different from the rest of the world that they really stand out. The character animations are all fun and charming. It's very clear when Link is out of his element and needs to change outfits due to the climate. It's just fun to get lost in the world and see what sorts of environments or landscapes you can find.

This game does have some flaws, however. I've encountered a few places where I encountered some very bad framerate drops, especially in combat. These were very few and far-between, however, and I wouldn't put that against the final score. One other thing I saw was a couple of soft-locks when things did not load appropriately. This only happened twice to me, and one was actually quite funny, because a character did not load for a cutscene, and their dialog did not appear in turn, causing Link to stand around unable to do anything while the rest of the environment moved around him. A reset of the game put me back into a save about 30 seconds before the cutscene, and the character appeared appropriately this time.

Overall, Breath of the Wild is one of my favorite games to come out in the past decade. It really brought me back to the memories I had growing up playing the original Legend of Zelda, and a return to the open format that helped inspire so many open world games we have now. This is easily a 10/10.

Let me break it down for you. The story and soundtrack are good, but not amazing by any means when compared to the other parts of this game. The combat is fluid and exciting, but can get difficult at times which is truly a change for the Zelda series. Weapon degradation adds to this difficulty. It may be annoying at first, but is barely a problem later on. I can compare the combat mostly to games like The Witcher 3, but it is still in a class of it's own. The game doesn't hold your hand either, so you have to figure out the combat mechanics for yourself, which is another really nice change for the Zelda series, as for Nintendo games in general. When I started the game up, I expected a long, boring tutorial that would lessen my first impression of the game as in other game, but was very releaved that I got a Dark Souls-esque tutorial instead which is how more games should be in my opinion. Another really nice change to this game is how you can go about the game in any order you want, rather than being forced on a linear path like all the other Zelda games. With this freedom comes a large amount of exploration to be done which is completely optional, but also beneficial to you. Anyway, this is very open-ended game with advanced mechanics, and even though I didn't cover everything in this review, I still thoroughly suggest you get this game. Expand

NPC also changes their reactions to current weather, making them more dynamic.
The music is excellent executed, appearing just when it should to be, and dungeons were nicely updated.
Maybe the main story is not as strong good as in Ocarina Of Time, but it makes you play the game until the end.

It's probably been over half a decade since I've felt so addicted to a game. While I would have liked more character development for the four champions, Zelda herself is more well-developed than any character in any of the previous Zelda games. Nintendo really made an amazing character with her. She's multidimensional, she has multiple character arcs, and it's all presented in such a creative way. They even give Link some character development, in a way. You would think that giving Link personality would ruin the character, since he's supposed to be the silent, "blank slate" protagonist that people project themselves onto. But once again, it's done so smartly that it does wonders for the character's likability. All-in-all, an absolutely amazing game. I look forward to seeing how Nintendo tries to top this one. Expand

The trial shrines are mostly very entertaining to solve. I'm personally rather dissatisfied with the motion control ones, though those might interest others. The single boss/ancient battle I have partaken in was very well choreographed, challenging and fun. Vah Rutah and all it entailed kept me on my toes the whole time.
The mount system is very interesting, what other game has you break in your mount? That is unless you demount a monstrous rider and steal his horse like I did.
The fact that you can do that, is amazing, and a credit to the positivity of the game, it doesn't limit you artificially, the only limit on you in this game is you.

This is the first Zelda game I play and it has left me interested in playing some of the older ones.

You can take pictures of all the great in-game places
Shield surf down a mountain until you succeed
    Find all the mini bosses
Excellent combat system in that weapons break not allowing you to use the same strat over and over
I think stamina is a great way of making sure people don't break the game from the get go
    WORLD IS HUGE
And this game does let you go where ever you want to go with limits like for example, you can go and fight the final boss with a stick and nothing else, you will likely die and the stick will break but you can still do it
There is also no order to the story of this game it isn't linear at all you don't even have to participate in the story of this game to win (all though I recommend participation) you can do the dungeons in any order and those who complain that this game is bad for having 4 dungeons, this is my question for you. Have you played Majoras Mask?

I highly recommend this game and will give it a 10/10
You should definitely get this game and experience it for yourself because that is the honest to god best way to play this game is on your own and without someone telling you where to go and what to do

The physic and attention to detail is groundbreaking. I remember playing FF15 and noticed the water surface became frozen when you cast ice magic, that if Noctis was standing on the water, he couldn't move for a while coz his feet were planted on the ice. BotW took it to a whole new level.
And the most important thing, Nintendo managed to keep the heart of a Zelda game. This is something that's really hard to explain, but I'm sure many Zelda fans will get what I mean if he/she has played Zelda since they were young.

And while many people appear to just be trolls, I fully respect anyone who does not like this game, because everything is subjective. That being said, after putting 80 hours into this game (with still around 25 shrines to go) I can easily say that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, has taken over as my personal favourite game of all time.

The first thing I loved about this game was that there was no bs. Within a minute you are fully into the game. This is something I hate about modern games, since I have an extremely low attention span. The second thing I loved is that even though the Great Plateau is meant to be a tutorial area, it doesn't feel like it in the slightest. That was another thing I dislike about modern games (especially Skyward Sword) was that they baby you too much. Not this game, and I loved every second of it. Usually I cannot stand when a game does too much hand holding or too much story/exposition. But this game understood that it should be more about the GAME then the BACKSTORY. They didn't have to tell me why I should defeat Ganon for 30 hours like in previous Zeldas, they just showed me an image of Ganon in Hyrule and that was more than enough of a motivator.

Now I'm sure some people like more story heavy vs. game play heavy games (like Uncharted, Until Dawn, Skyward Sword), but for me personally I much enjoy as little story as possible, which is possibly why I loved this game so much. It is--not trying to sound too cliche--the game of my dreams.

That being said, I played it on the Wii U, and had a fantastic experience. From everything I've seen the Switch version is not THAT much better and even though this game is unbelievably fun, I think you shouldn't waste the money on a Switch, between all the problems it's having and the lack of games, it makes sense to wait a year to pick it up.

In conclusion, in my personal opinion this game is a masterclass in open-world design and in elevating the game play over the narrative. My only complaint is that I wish there was more, but that's more of a compliment than a complaint, and so I give this game a 10.

I started playing it and in an instant I LOVED IT! No wonder it took too many delays. They had to make this the best Zelda game out there (well, besides the OG Zelda). They wanted this to be the hardest Zelda game. They put a lot of thought into this game.

And just so you guys know, the E3 2014 teaser for it, when you see our boi Link shoot the guardian with the arrow with the glowing blue thing at the pointed part of the arrow, is a thing in the game. They're called Ancient Arrows, according to my brother.

As I said above, this is a really great game. I like the idea of an open-world Zelda game.

Now let's see if our boi Link in BOTW gets into Smash Switch. ...Whenever that is.

My personal experience with the game has been amazing. I haven't wanted to put it down and it just keeps getting better and better. I have no idea why there are so many negative reviews on this game. Many from people who either never played it or are leaving 0's because they are mad about the amazing critic reviews it got. Do yourself a favor: If you like Nintendo or like Zelda or are at all open minded about the game, give it a chance. You will be so happy that you did.

Amazing graphics, amazing story, and Amazing AI. What else is there to say.
Breath of the Wild manages to create the most expansive and dense game, I've ever played. It manages to make the gameplay feel progressively more challenging, without ever creating a sense of you being overpowered. NPCs are fun to talk to, and are even pretty adaptive.
Probably the best feature of this game is

Probably the best feature of this game is how well balanced it is. Everything in the game, even things that can severely hurt the player can be used to the player's advantage, if they are clever enough. For this reason BoTW feels incredibly rewarding and enjoyable.

Why do i give Breath of the Wild a 10/10?
Because i loved it, after almost 2 weeks playing every day i can say it's one of my favorite games. Once you start playing this game you'll can't stop.
There are too many things to do, the story is deep, the art style is really beautiful, the mechanics and physics (when you realise what you can do you'll be amazed, i mean it). By other hand,

By other hand, it has its flaw. The fps drops can be really annoying, but you will get used to it.
I should give it a 9/10 because this flaw, but....if there are people giving this game a 0/10 cuz "it has PS2 graphics or Link is not left handed or it's too difficult or too different" i can give it the score that i want.
And i can say, these people are very immature, full of hate, closed minded, possibly with nothing else to do in life and really, really pathetic. #GetALife

    Anyways.
If you haven't play this game, you should give it a chance, it's worth it./10

That said, through the incredibly well thought out and subtle game design, Nintendo still manages to guide a player through to make good choices and gives the player almost imperceptibly subtle nudges in the right direction to keep the player moving forward towards areas of the world that will provide a challenge, but not overwhelm the player.

If ever there was a game that shows how impeccable Nintendo can cater to an incredibly large demographic, while providing a game that focuses on removing dull elements and adds in everything that makes other open world games enjoyable and merge it with the puzzle solving and unique world interactions only Zelda titles offer, you get the crowning achiemevents that steers focus towards empowering the player with exciting and interesting interactions, while placing far less emphasis on uninteresting video game tropes like photorealistic graphics or icons and arrows on the horizon leading the player directly where they need to go.

Nintendo shows that they truly are the greatest video game developers in the world.

An absolute masterpiece. This game will change your life, and how you look at video games forever. The Nintendo magic is here in full force, and they've outdone themselves, and truly cemented themselves as the greatest developer of all time.

I have had the Switch and Zelda for a little over two weeks now and with “Only” about 27 hours of playtime put in (I say “only” because from what I can tell I am under 10% complete of the game) I can still say that this has been the best experience I have had with a game and I can only see it getting better. The puzzles have been good, the combat is exciting and super satisfying, and the mechanics are spot on to complement both. The story has been very little so far (and that is totally up to me) but I see where they are going and the way they weave the story elements into how and why you are playing is genius. It makes going out and discovering the world engaging. And that is the best thing about this game, Discovery. This is the quintessential adventure game that rewards the venturing out and wanting to explore. I want to turn every corner around the mountain sides, I want to run through all the blades of grass in the prairies, I want to step on every grain of sand in this world to discover whatever it is that is out there for me. But the game also gives you the freedom to forget about venturing out and just engage in the story, but in doing so you will still be going on an adventure surrounded by discovery. And that is why this has been nothing but genius developing all around. And what makes this all the better is that I get to play in this world anywhere because of the Switch. In my home office on the big tv, on my couch while someone else is watching tv, or while falling asleep in bed, I can get my fix of Zelda. The only bad thing I see about this game is that I don’t think I can play a past 3D Zelda game again, I would just be wishing I was playing Breath of The Wild. Expand

I loved the new degradion system, it really adds up to the "survivalist" mode of this new Zelda
cooking is really nice and I had to use it wisely to beat some hard foes.
    I love the upgradable system.
the story is beautiful, and I love the references to old games.
the game looks AMAZING. cartoonish graphs but placed in a very nice way....
I confess I got emotional playing this new game. really great job Nintendo!

just sad to see so many bad reviws giving zeroes from people that did not even play the game and are just upset because their company game didn't make a so big score!

Simply expect something new, and enjoy.
If you wish for more explanation this game is the next era of Nintendo's innovation, it hearkens back to the age of N64 and their innovations into the 3rd dimension. Is it a perfect game, No, but in the age of numerical scores it deserves a perfect score because how enjoyable it is in comparison with "flawless" games.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is an absolute joy to play as it's an undeniably rewarding adventure set in a deeply immersive world. Although the experience is weighed down by a few minor problems, the overall journey is one that no gamer will soon forget.

Breath of the Wild can’t be compared to the likes of The Witcher 3 or Skyrim because it’s not trying to be those games -- it’s a Nintendo game -- and series -- all grown up. It has a lot to offer and will keep you engaged for lengthy periods of time. If you’re playing on Switch as you absolutely should be, then you can also Zelda wherever you go. It’s arguably not the best Zelda game, but damn, it might be the most polished, and the most ambitious.

Does it have the best combat system in the world? No. Is it the best looking game out there? No. Does it have the best RPG soundtrack ever? No. Can the game make you feel like you are eight years old again? Hell yes. It certainly had that effect with me. It has been a long time since exploring, fighting, and adventuring has so consistently brought a smile to my face. Breath of the Wild is such a wonderful experience that once you play it, you will likely never look at open world games the same again.
