Amiibos in this game are better than I thought. My LVL 50 Link can beat me most of the time and I am pretty good. This is a must have for any Wii U owner and looks beautiful with 1080p 60fps with never any slow down. Online is 10 times better that the 3DS edition. Not much lag and I have average internet. That is one of the best games i have ever played, but after experiencing an adventure mode in brawl and loved it the lack of something similar hurts. In the end the game is almost perfect and i would give a 9.5 but I can only put 9 or 10

To me it's a party game with a learning curve that can keep you amused and bettering yourself for hours upon hours. I imagine I'll attend some competitive events as a spectator if the Smash eSports scene takes off again with this iteration, but overall my interest is essentially casual while writing this review.

That said, this is a fantastic new addition to the series. We had a "Smash Bash" party the day after release and had an absolute blast. Smash 4 is still a phenomenal party game and with the 8 player Smash you can involve just about everyone who's interested in playing simultaneously at modest gatherings.

Almost everything about this game is stellar, so let me just list my minor gripes:
    - Smash Tour is somewhat dull
    - There is no Smash Run like 3DS Smash on the Wii-U, only the aforementioned Tour
    - Acquiring duplicate moves, trophies and customization items can be frustrating
    - Sometimes the controllers get glitchy when you're using GameCube and/or Pro Controllers
    - My friends are better than me

So Smash Tour is a board game adaptation of Smash Run. It's much less engaging in my opinion. In fact, it honestly just about puts me to sleep. Going between monotonous board movement and playing matches with characters you don't choose just isn't all that enjoyable to me. I really wish they would have just kept Smash Run on the Wii-U just like 3DS instead of this mode.

As for the controller issue I mentioned, we had particular trouble with the GameCube controller adapter, but it was easily rectified by unplugging the GameCube controller and plugging it back in. Sometimes our Pro controllers would send inputs without us touching them as well, forcing us to reboot the entire system to resolve. Overall though, we may have spent a total of 15-20 minutes fighting buggy controllers during a 10 hour Smash session, much of which had 7-8 players going... so it's really not that bad.

Those negative points aside, this game is nearly perfect.

The interface is fluid and beautiful. The game's graphics are simply astounding. I think I've only noticed one shadow in the Orbital Assault stage that I didn't like. There was a bit of feathered dithering going on that catches my eye. Otherwise the texturing, shading and lighting of the game looks so great it's unbelievable. It's about the most "realistic" cartoony graphics experience I've ever seen.

Gameplay is very smooth. In the 30+ hours I've put in so far I think I've noticed two instances of framerate drops... and it could have even been my imagination. I can't believe how smoothly things run in 8-man Smash. I was entirely anticipating a bit of a stuttery situation when things got heavy, but saw nothing of the sort.

I love what they've done with the game's mechanics too. Movesets feel mostly balanced and there have been improvements that I feel add to the competitive potential of the game. The Equipment customization is a neat system that adds to my enjoyment. When I don't feel like improving my game, I can still lazily farm better equipment, which has its own form of amusement and a feeling of progression.

There's so much content in this release and [almost] all of it has immense value to provide. Even the Angry Birds ripoff iteration of Target Smash can be fun and challenging. Events are great, the Co-Op/Competitive opportunities are prolific, and every mode aside from Smash Tour is super fun and well polished.

I have to give this title a 10. Even though I had negative points to express, there's just no way it's deserving of a score so low as 9. If I didn't already have a Wii-U for Bayonetta 2 and Hyrule Warriors, this game would have easily pushed me to pick one up. Super Smash Bros 4 is a fantastic title supplementing a legendary series.

Very few games are perfect and this is no exception, some of the modes and menu's add some confusion and there is some imbalance to the game, however this is a must play for any Nintendo fan.

I often forget what is behind which menus and just want to play classic mode for the most part, which feels very odd and is less fun than previous smashes. Don't get me wrong its a fun game but I been playing since the first smash bros and singleplayer modes were always very important to me, now they feel shoved in a corner deep under menus.

The more I play it the less I like it. They didn't put anywhere near enough content that matters.
Lets face it there is a lot of problems with this game and the fact people are in denial of these problems worries me a lot. Heck the most of the game is menus, and without any reason, it is litterally filler content the game with no core game there. It isn't bad but it is no way good. I am heavily disappointed in the game, and in the community.

Besides, there was no story mode in the first game, and the stories in melee and brawl we'rent exactly stellar or well written, and weren't the focus of the game. Don't let the lack of a story mode be a turn off, you'll hardly notice it among everything else they added.

Although the 8-Player game mode might seem to be chaotic at first, no one said you had to use all 8 player slots. With the 8-player mode, you can also have 5, 6, or 7 players if you want. The Sage builder has also been improved and is much more flexible than brawls. We also have an improved challenge mode, and a new co-op classic mode as well.

We have all the the standard modes brawl had (minus sse), all of which have been polished to a shine and tweaked to near perfection. Last but not least, Nintendo cleaned up and fixed smash bros online, no lag whatsoever (unless your internet sucks), smooth as silk. All in all, Smash bros Wii U is an almost perfect game.

I would highly recommend this game to any Nintendo gamer and smash bros fan.

The game looks fantastic, plays fantastic, and the soundtrack (like usual) is awesome.Classic mode is pretty cool with different intensities and choosable routes. Stage builder is more customizable than ever and is easy to use, but it would be nice if you could do 8-player battles on them. Some of the new characters are awesome like Rosalina and Luma, Mega man, Pacman, etc. They balanced OP characters from brawl *cough* Meta Knight. And the new items are fun.
If you were used to the controls from its 3ds counterpart, the grab has changed and is now the ZR and ZL and shielding is R and L. This threw me off as the 3ds 's default grabbing was L and default shielding was R. I am aware you can change the controls under a name and select the name before playing, but with gamemodes like smash tour and events, I am forced to use the default controls, which I will always screw up using. That was one of many flaws this game hosts. The content feels sort of lacking, with no story or adventure mode to play through, instead you have many gamemodes that either are stupid and not needed or just boring. All-star mode remains unchanged from the 3ds version, aside from facing fighters in reverse-chronological order. 8-player mode was a welcome concept that allows more than 4 players to join in, but if you are playing with all 8 players it is too chaotic and the maps you are restricted to play on seem a little odd. Crazy orders are pretty fun, but master orders seem rather unnecessary and I feel like they were just put there as a content filler. Smash tour is pretty boring and very disorienting as so much is going on at once, and the stats and fighters on your team are extremely small and hard to read.
You are given way too many characters and stages already unlocked off the bat which are way easier to unlock compared to previous games, which takes a lot of the fun, challenge and replay value out of the game. There are too many retro stages (which aren't even organized/separated from new ones) and not enough new, creative stages. Cool characters like Ice Climbers, Snake, Lucas and Wolf were ripped from the roster in replacement for stupid clones like Dark Pit and Dr. Mario.
Easily the worst part of the game is the online. I don't even bother playing free-for-all matches as all it takes is one person with a bad connection to turn 2 minutes into 6 minutes of laggy hell and if you try to leave you are temporarily banned. It is beyond me why 'For Glory' free-for-all matches and team matches are timed. However 1-on-1 for glory matches are quite smooth and thankfully are stocked.

Let me reiterate by saying, this game is great, but far from perfect. I would rate it 7.5 out of ten but since that's not possible, for now, it is a 7/10.

    PROS

    # Its Still the same Smash Bros that we all got around the couch for in the Gamecube and Wii days, It strikes the right balance as being faster than Brawl though not as fast as Melee, just that right balance that I like

    # The character roster is impressive, one of the strongest I've seen in a fighting game just outside of Marvel VS Capcom 2, I especially like some the new characters, I really grew fond of Shulk and Pac-Man rather quickly.

    # 8 Player Smash is really fun, my personal preference is 6 as I feel that's the right balance of players on the field without being too chaotic.

    # LOTS of unlockables, they will certainly keep you busy for weeks on end.

    WHAT I DON'T LIKE

    # The Menu's are a bit tricky to navigate, the fact that some buttons are smaller than others and not very well titled makes them a bit of a hassle to navigate.

    # Lots of recycled assets in the form of Stages and Music tracks, while they are nice to see return I would have appreciated a bit more originality.

    # Smash Tour is lame. Its too randomised and a bit of a slog to be enjoyable. My friends and I tried it twice, the 2nd time when we knew what we were doing and didn't go back to it..

    # Classic mode shares a really annoying gripe I have with Kid Icarus: Uprising, and that is when you die the difficulty is automatically lowered. URRRGHHH DON'T F*****G DO THAT SAKURAI, IT FEELS INCREDIBLY CONDESCENDING AS IF THE GAME IS SAYING: "Oh its too hard for you? Let me make it easier" NO!!! I want to learn from my mistakes not have the experienced dumbed down.

I got attached to mine after it started kicking my butt and "adapting". This is easily the best game of 2014. Nintendo is going to have a good holiday season!

I digitally downloaded my copy off the store because I want Smash Bros to be a permanent part of my console along with Mario Kart 8. Wii U is easily becoming my favorite console. And thank you Nintendo for bringing Mewtwo back this coming Spring!

Sadly it is a lackluster compared to Brawl. Brawl would had been the perfect game if Mega Man had been in it. When Mega Man was announced in the game, sadly it was such a lackluster as Snake took away his momentum. Why does Mega Man look like a midget when in other games he has the right proportions on how he would look on a non-8bit representation? Snake may be gone but I miss Audi Famam Illius, Smash needed melodies like those, instead of the ones we have now, oh but we are going back to the roots thanks to obsessive Melee fans...

Still the game looks great in HD. But it needed both better music and a proper look on Mega Man. And I am giving it a perfect score in order to be able to battle the GTA V remake in even more HD, and Dragon Age which are lower games to Smash. Oh but nowadays, people want hardcore games when these people only want casual stuff to show up they are so tech savvy. I miss the days when videogames were for videogamers and not posers who just get in for fashion. Still, game of the year. But sadly Nintendo will fall.

An absolute work of art. Anyone who doesn't rate this higher than 8/10 is either not being honest with the rating or don't actually own the game. Every aspect of SMASH Wii U is perfectly polished, and there's simply no denying that.
This is an absolute gem of a game, but it won't win game of the year. Some 3rd party is going to pay to earn game of the year.
But in all honesty? This game

Only slightly better than the 3DS version in that the controls are actually bearable. Otherwise it's just more of the same; more tacked-on features that don't add anything new or screw up things that were perfectly fine in the first place. And yes, I'm still bitter about the Ice Climbers.

First we had “Super Smash. Bros.” Then we had “Melee.” Then it was “Brawl.” And now, it’s “4.” Or, “WiiU.” Take your pick.

Unfortunately, the lack of creativity in the title reflects a lack of creativity in the game, too. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but this is the weakest of the Smash Bros. series. In a nutshell, here’s why (with more elaboration below): 1) No new Adventure
First we had “Super Smash. Bros.” Then we had “Melee.” Then it was “Brawl.” And now, it’s “4.” Or, “WiiU.” Take your pick.

Unfortunately, the lack of creativity in the title reflects a lack of creativity in the game, too. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but this is the weakest of the Smash Bros. series.

In a nutshell, here’s why (with more elaboration below):

    1) No new Adventure Mode
    2) Old modes aren’t as fun
    3) Worst replay value of the series
    4) Way too gimmicky
    5) “Brawl 2.0” would’ve been an appropriate title

    1) First and most glaringly, there is no Adventure Mode like there has been in the past two games. The closest you get to an Adventure Mode is the “Smash Tour,” which is a super confusing game board that culminates in a regular Smash Bros. match anyway. Without that Adventure Mode, I feel like I’m meaninglessly playing the game over and over without any kind of real direction. Instead of slowly learning how characters work and unlocking players as the story goes on, the game starts with most of the characters already unlocked and you’re just supposed to play endless matchups until you get the hang of each character.

    2) As you would expect it to, Smash 4 offers most of the same game modes that its predecessors have. Except, this version has not only failed to build upon previous versions, but actually takes a step backward. Classic mode is clunky and awkward: why can’t I just go through a lineup of matches like in past versions? Adventure mode is okay (and I like the concept of fighting characters in reverse chronological order), but I still think Brawl takes the cake on this one.

    3) Saying that a Smash Bros. title has poor replay value is not what you would expect, but that’s what you get here. Part of this is because there’s no Adventure Mode. But mainly, this is because there are so many tedious events to do with each character – like home run challenge, endless smash, cruel smash, etc. – that there is no way I am going to set a record for each individual character as I have in Melee and Brawl.

    4) Throughout the game, you’re collecting these power-ups that are supposed to power-up your “create your own” character. The problem is, I have no interest in creating a character and having them get powered up. This is Smash Bros., not an RPG. Unless I’m playing an Adventure Mode (and not against other people), I want an even match every time. The thought that some obsessive player is currently focusing on powering up his character, and can someday play against me and have a huge advantage because of all the equipment they’ve found, is a very disheartening one. I feel that too much time was spent on gimmicks like these and not enough was spent on actual gameplay.

    5) The worst part about this game is that it’s basically another “Brawl” and not much else. They’ve taken away a few of the better characters (like Snake and Ice Climbers) and replaced them with 14 new characters. Except, most of those characters are minor revisions to other characters. (Seriously… “Dark Pit” couldn’t have just been a different skin of “Pit?”) Of all the new characters, I was only excited about 5 of them.

The levels are perhaps the most disappointing part of this game. 21 of these game’s levels are identical versions of past games. Listen, everyone likes retro and to see new versions of old levels re-appear, but this shouldn’t be the emphasis. There are only 25 new levels, and keeping in mind that “new” often just means a platform with a new background. I would say there’s only about a dozen truly “new” levels being offered here.

That’s not to say there wasn’t effort put into the game. The game is polished and doesn’t lag (unless you’re online), and the 8-player smash option is a great improvement. I am very pleased with the additions of Pac-Man, Mega Man, Little Mac, Duck Hunt, and the bosses that appear on some stages. Also, the Event Mode seems to be the best of the all the Smashes so far.

Otherwise though, I just feel like all the effort was put into the wrong places. Here I am, on Day 2 of owning this game, and I’ve already lost interest in playing it much more because I’ve already unlocked all the characters and have just a couple stages left to unlock.

So, go ahead and click “this review wasn’t helpful," but I am thoroughly disappointed with this title. I plan to return to Hyrule Warriors as soon as the new DLC is released this coming week, and maybe even sooner.

There is no such thing as a perfect game. However, Super Smash Bros for Wii U comes as close to perfection as you can get. With great and diverse characters, well-designed stages, beautiful music, glorious graphics, engaging game modes, and honestly one of the best multiplayer experiences I have ever been a part of, Smash Bros is why you should finally own a Wii U.

One of the things that surprised me the most was how diverse and fun the new characters were to play as. Little Mac with his unique K.O. punch, Shulk with his multiple play-styles, Villager's incredible fun and unique moveset, and I have just scratched the surface. These new characters, along with improvements to the old characters, gives the best roster of the series hands-down. And the control of these characters are amazing, being simple to use yet complex to master. And with some many different controller options (wii remote, gamepad, gamecube controller, pro controller, classic controller, wii remote w/ nunchuck, 3ds) you are going to find your comfortable controller option.

Multiplayer is unbelievable. 8-player smash, while taking some time getting used to, is so chaotic, engaging, and fun. And that's the best word for smash bros: fun. Esp. fun with friends but even on the solo side. Classic mode is revamped and is the best version in the series yet, by actually choosing what fights you want to fight. Event mode, Special orders, there is just so much replay value.

My only complaint is Smash Run. It's very underwhelming, confusing, and more of a drag than anything. I give credit for trying something new, but this isn't how it should be done. One dull mode doesn't stop this game though, not at all. You have challenges to complete, trophies to buy, music to collect, modes to conquer, endless hours of fun here.

    Pros
    +MULTIPLAYER (2-player, 4-player, 8, whatever! It's a blast and brings friends together)
    +Diverse characters
+Excellent stages (Donkey Kong's foreground and background, Mario Galaxy, etc)
+Control and so many controller options
    +Beautiful Graphics
    +Nostalgic Music(what'd you expect?)
    +All the fantastic game modes
+So much to do and experience in this game
+Solo play is NOT a drag! Just as fun!
+I can go on and on. This is just a wonderful experience.

    Cons
-Smash Run is very confusing, not worth your time
-Major nit-pick but I hate how most characters are unlocked from the very beginning! Like NO!

    Score-9.9/10(Rounds to 10/10)
Not perfection, but pretty dang close. Seriously, buy this game. It's one of the many reasons to own a WiiU and it is the ultimate party game. I am not sure if this is my favorite game in the series, I'll see in the upcoming games of play. However it is off to a wonderful start.

However, the online is a huge disappointment. There is no option to play with stocks (or stocks with a time limit). By not providing this option it essentially ruins the online experience for people who greatly prefer using stock mode. Indeed, this is the tournament standard (with a time limit allocated, of course). Unfortunately, this incredibly ridiculous oversight, means that the online mode may as well not exist for many Smash players.

Unfortunately, this seems to be Nintendo's way. They produce great content, but their inability to listen to their fans always leads to some awkward weakness that would have been incredibly easy to avoid.

Still, this is a great game. Nintendo has crafted a wonderful game for people to play with their friends, just not online.

While Smash Bros for Wii U is an excellent party game with a high production value and WONDERFUL art style (literally I could not praise the visuals enough) its flaws lie in its inability to stand up to the first two games in the series. Brawl was inarguably football field of a step backwards for the series. This game feels like Brawl 2, not Super Smash Brothers 4. Like Brawl, the combat is still sluggish, the characters are still unbalanced, but the introduction of ledge stealing ruins the combat which the series did right in Melee and 64. This being said, it is still SMASH BROS! Its fun to play with friends, and the introduction of 8 player smash is a huge step forward for the casual side of the series. Music is great, as expected, and the art style causes the game to look infinitely better than the previous games in the series. The removal of tripping is huge step forward as well. But the game still lacks hitstun, making true combos rare, and the lack of movement options is still disappointing. Chain throwing was removed entirely as well, and I can't tell if that is a good or bad thing. But again, the serious lack of skill required to win is a huge flaw. Ledge guarding is almost completely gone, which removes a huge element of smash bros that has been included since 64, and remained in Brawl. This game is going to have little to no competitive longevity, and will probably be abandoned by mid-level casuals in favor of melee soon. Great game overall, would give 7.8/10 for having too much water. Expand

The biggest is the lack of a story mode. It feels empty without one. It's almost entirely a multiplayer experience, and that isnt a bad thing. Super Smash Brothers is best with friends. And boy does it really shine with that.

Also the Amiibo function was not clearly explained. I thought it was a customizable character that you can use and save upgrades and scores on, like a skylander (more or less) It turned out to be a self controlling AI that Fights for you, with upgrades and saveable equipment and so on. At first I was thinking. What's the point? Then i discovered if you do team battles for you, they level up. And you essentially get a portable Teammate with stats. That's pretty cool.

Not perfect, but pretty darn good. Worth the buy

The controls are tight and responsive, both on the Pro Controller and the GameCube adapter. So as a long time fan I am very happy.

The visuals are what's going to really set this apart from every smash that has come before. Not only are they bright colorful and alive but the increased detail and resolution makes seeing what's going on in the bedlam MUCH easier and fun. Each fighter looks amazing and every environment feels alive. Pretty much every Nintendo IP and beyond gets a nod here. And I was shocked at how fun even the stages and fighters that I didn't care about ended up being. I love the Wii fit training studio, the almost sedated narrator calmly asking you to perform the down dog pose while your smashing Wario's face in with the hilt of your sword is hilarious.

The amiibo support is fun. I only got to mess around with it a little bit but there is a enough going on here to keep me interested and coming back for more.

The only let down was 3DS support. I was hoping for more cross compatibility but being able to copy over your custom fighters is fun and will keep me interested. Using it was a controller does work, if you really got use to it I guess. I hope this is something that gets expanded on a little more in the future.

The new game modes are awesome, adding even more replay-ability to a game that historically, almost never grows old. While not a suitable environment for competitive play, 8 player smash is hectic and fun and its addition provides farther evidence that Sakurai has been listening, and actually cares about what his fans have to say. Nintendo did a great job appealing to all audiences in this game.

Seriously Nintendo is all like "oh you don't like Smash" well then change all the rules to your liking...
"you prefer melee" Well you can use your gamecube controller and take off smash ball.
"don't like certain songs" Then turn them off the playlist.

This game is an unbalanced balance of a great game, a custom game, and a make you happy in your own special way kind of game.

Mii customizations are hilarious... Just think.. now you or your friends or heck Walter White can join the brawl.

    GREAT JOB NINTENDO!!

Look I want to go on more but I really don't want to spoil it for anyone.

Plus it has that special Nintendo polish other developers fail to deliver with their bug-ridden game releases. Should be in consideration for game of the year together with Bayonetta 2. The most amazing new feature is "8-PLAYER SMASH". Now you are able to play Smash-Bros with 8 players.

You are able to purchase a "Gamecube-Adapter" which lets you use the classic Gamecube controller.

The new All-Star Mode (Its the reverse version of the 3DS mode)lets you play through the history of Nintendo. Its super fun. After every fight you get teleported to a hub where you have 3 items to heal yourself(Just like in the boss mode in brawl)

The WiiU version has a different "Classic-Mode" than the 3DS version: The player advances based on his/her skill and defeated fighters can be used as teammates. You also have a rival during the mode. You also face bosses like Master Hand.

The 3DS version has its exclusive mode "Smash Run", but the WiiU version has an even better mode called "Smash Tour". Its hard to describe, its kind of like a mix between Smash Run and Mario Party.

A thing I really like is the Mii Fighter. You can customize his full moveset and give him different clothes/outfits.

You also have amiibos(NFC-Figures like "Skylanders") that you can train and battle against. They each cost arround 15$ and are not needed to play the game. You can also customize their moves and level them up.

In the online mode you can play "For Fun"(with items) which is a bit more casual.
Or you can play "For Glory"(No items) which is kind of competitive. It works really well. I can play with my friends from overseas and there is no lag. If you want a more stable connection, you are able to purchase a LAN-adapter for the WiiU

There is also a new mode called "Special Orders". There is "Master Order" and "Crazy Order". To play them you need to spend coins on "tickets" that you gain while playing.

And now there is a "event-mode" in which you have to fulfill missions.

Of course you can still play your Stadium games like "The Home Run contest" and "Multi Man Smash". You can even play those modes with a friend.

I might even go as far as saying, that it is the best Smash Bros game that came out. But that depends if you like the speed of the game. Its faster than Brawl but a bit slower than Melee. I think its the perfect speed.

This game is amazing. If you like fighting games/Nintendo you should get this game. 10/10.

I hope you thought that this review was helpful. Keep in mind that its my personal opinion about the game.
