I was more than pleased with this new installment for the Nintendo Wii U. In fact, this was main purpose for my purchase of a Wii U earlier this year, and I can proudly say that I have no regrets. Super Smash Bros takes everything we loved about the previous games, and makes it even more amazing, with improved visuals running at 1080p, 60fps. The detailed characters, smooth animations, and breathtaking backgrounds truly justify that the Wii U is more than just a "little kids" console. There's 53 playable characters (55 if you want to include the Mii Fighters) ranging from other game series like Fire Emblem, Pokemon, Kid Icarus, and Earthbound (Mother). Also, there's DLC characters like Ryu from Street Fighter and Mewtwo from Pokemon who are also tons of fun to play with as well. You can also purchase more arenas to fight at, as well as costumes for your Mii.

Super Smash Bros offers a lot of variety when it comes to game modes, with unlockable trophies that true Hardcore Smash Fans will spend hours upon hours attempting to collect. If you start feeling lonely, and you believe that you've trained enough with your favorite character in offline modes. You can take the fight online, and try your best against other players in both ranked, and unranked modes. But i'd highly recommend that you use a Pro Controller. Things will get intense online, and so you'll need something more durable than the GamePad. But not all is great with the online mode... sadly there's a good amount of connection issues, that could lead to extreme lag, or even being booted from a match. Its a real bummer.

Super Smash Bros offers Amiibo Support. So if you're a collector of those awesome little Amiibos, you can bring them into the fight, and train them into little bad asses.

Super Smash Bros is a fantastic game, that offers so much for its $60 price tag. If you're a Wii U owner, and you don't own Super Smash Bros.. you really are missing out on one great game.

Stage Builder too, is rubbish. You literally have nothing to build with, unless you run through the awful classic run a few million times, and you can only build using the Wii Pad, Good concept, terrible in practice. There is no adventure mode, or subspace emissary, Because "people leaked footage of it" or so I'm told. Either way unacceptable.

The only thing worth your time in this game is the Multiplayer, AI battles, and 8 player smash. Nintendo gives me half a game, I give them half a score.

Story/Concept: Smash Bros. is a fighting game starring Nintendo characters, but with a twist, you fight on platforms, and to K.O. an opponent, you have to knock them off it.

Graphics/Design: Colorful, and functions extremely well, I have experienced some lag during online sessions, but other than that, the game runs well. Sound: Kickass soundtrack and I love the announcer's voice.

Super Smash Bros is crazy fun for everyone! You do not need to be a Nintendo fan to enjoy this game, it is a really spectacular fighting game with stunning graphics and a great roster of characters. If you are the type of person who likes to have fun with friends or even some CPU then you'll love smash bros. I wish it had a campaign like Brawl but besides that it is perfect.

But they take away 2 of my favorite modes; adventure mode and target practice. And a few character tweaks did kind of make me feel a bit disappointed. Smash Bros. games have always been the best game to play when sitting on a couch with a bunch of friends when you're out of productive things to do, and Smash Bros. Wii U is certainly no exception.

For starters, I'd like to point out that Sakurai made the smart decision to actually listen to his fans, which most of the other members of Nintendo don't seem to be doing much recently. The roster this time around was filled with fan favorites like Shulk, Little Mac, Rosalina, Mega Man, and... Wii Fit Trainer? Some characters seemed a bit strange, but overall the roster is impressive and makes for hours of fun getting to know each character's moveset. Also, Sakurai even decided to bring back "lost characters" who fans wanted back like Mewtwo, Lucas, and Roy as DLC.

Gameplaywise, the game plays much smoother than Brawl, and while it can still be played casually, it is much more competitively viable than its predecessor. Also, many unfair exploits from previous games such as ledge-hogging have been removed. In addition, it feels way more balanced than any other game in the series, with no extremely overpowered characters like Meta Knight in Brawl.

While the majority of gamers want Smash Bros. for the purpose of having fun with their friends or getting into the competitive scene, there are those few players who look forward to having fun alone with the solo modes, and that's where this game really falls short. With no adventure mode and nothing that really fills the gap, Smash Bros. Wii U isn't really all that fun to play alone for that long. Recycled modes like Home Run Contest and Multi Man Smash are welcome, but any player who played a decent amount of Melee and/or Brawl probably won't spend much time on them. The new Target Blast and Special Orders modes are decent ideas but feel tacked on, and while the new version of Classic Mode is interesting, it is only fun for so long.

While the online mode is certainly an improvement over Brawl's, it still is filled with slowdown. Nintendo clearly hasn't been putting enough work into the servers for the game, and thus, in plain terms, they suck. However, the addition of more categories like 1 on 1, etc. makes it much easier to find the right opponent(s) online.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U may have been disappointing in some areas, but overall is an extremely impressive game that every Wii U owner should have.

    Characters and Moves 10/10:
A large range of characters with different moves and styles, some of the moves with some characters you can just button mash but most you don't do that.

    Maps 8/10:
Again, a nice range of different styled maps with just great backgrounds and platforms.

    Soundtrack 10/10:
The soundtrack is one of the best parts of the game, it's beautiful amazing with a massive range of different songs from different games by each character for example: Link, Fox, Ness, Megaman, Sonic, Pokemon (Pikachu, Charizard, etc) and of coarse Mario.

    Mini games 7/10:
There are mini games in there like trophy rush, classic and others plus the new smash tour which is also pretty fun if you want any time wasters.

    Online 5/10:
For me.... the online was not the best I have seen, alot of the time (like 95%) I would get a laggy match made game with people not close to me like hardly close (mostly Japanese people) since I live in Australia I will get hardly a non lagging match, probably the best match I got was where it was a little bit laggy and after that it was full on lagging.

Overall this game is just really awesome and it's great to play with friends and family.
Hope you enjoy more then me.

You know, I can honestly say that this game blew me away. It's no Melee, but it IS a really good game.

But there are reasons why this game is not my favorite. For one, those god damned CLONES. Seriously. The new characters they do add are great and have epic ideas, but perhaps a third of them just copy another already made character. Such as Lucina. God... For two, no adventure mode.

For two, no adventure mode. What had started to become a staple in the Smash Bros. Series is now eerily absent. The adventure modes in Melee and Brawl (ESPECIALLY Brawl) were near perfect, but the disappearance of it in Smash 4 is depressing.

But besides those two facts, the game is great. Like I said, it's no Melee, but it'll do and I'll certainly be playing it for a long time.

Back in the Melee days I felt as thought you could easily master each character, Brawl gave us more variety (Snake), but Wii U has given us versatility in playing styles. You can't play Villager the same way you play Fox. It requires you figure out how to play each character. Not just smashing until you hit your opponent, plus you can even choose which controller you prefer to use, I actually have friends that do no prefer the GC controller, even some that bring their own Pro Controller. I love that about this game, I feel like each character is your own and to play as another takes a bit of exploration and discovery.

Even though online is great, having friends over to play 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, or 4v4, or straight up free for all is a blast as always. With the Omega stages giving us a variety for serious plays and crazy stages like the Pikman stage keep things fresh. Although %40 of my online games get lag, I'm pretty sure it's cuz the wife is sitting next to me watching Netflix on her iPad.... -_-

If you haven't purchased an Amiibo.... DON'T... just kidding, I recommend getting your favorites, but save yourself the trouble and DO NOT be a collector, with constant scalping and shortages, it gets out of hand unless you have $$$ to shell out, then by all means! However, if you do, you will really enjoy what they can do. You train them like you would a Pokemon/dark version of yourself. I've even had a friend bring his, then bet that his lvl 50 Amiibo could be beat mine, things like that just make the game addicting on so many levels. Even when you max the Amiibo out, it can still learn. Making constantly change your tactics.

Bottom line, if you have a Wii U this is a must have!

The least in-depth fighting game in the Smash Bros series. Catering to those who will actively assert that their Johns aren't fraudulent.

It eliminates depth in many ways: New ledge mechanics get rid of reasons to recover high (or change recovery much at all), as it's practically a guaranteed sweet spot. Then there's the whole rock paper scissors edge stealing nonsense. Guaranteed

New ledge mechanics get rid of reasons to recover high (or change recovery much at all), as it's practically a guaranteed sweet spot. Then there's the whole rock paper scissors edge stealing nonsense.
Guaranteed combos EVERYWHERE (hoo-hah? double jab?) vastly reduces the priority of having good combo DI, since it won't do anything.
Combos? Aside from the guaranteed ones, true combos are almost non-existent. You can air-dodge out of pretty much any non-guaranteed combo- even in hitstun! You don't need to plan your DI or contemplate what your opponent will do, no. Just air dodge. Or maybe not air dodge and try to trick them. How's that for complexity?
Movement options are scarce. Perfect pivot is all that comes to mind for movement tech. Even Ness's signature double jump cancel has been removed. Pika's quick attack cancel can't be used on flat surfaces (pretty much making it useless if you're playing online/in a tourney). Just two examples of specific characters having movement options reduced.
    DACUS has been completely removed.
I won't even get into Melee tech.

In short- Smash 64 is more in-depth than this.

    Pros:
    Music
    Graphics
small amounts of technical aspects exist
    No tripping
    Faster than Brawl
    8 Player Smash
Good online play options (glory, friends, etc)
    Massive assortment of controller options

    Cons:
The majority of technical aspects are gone
    Slow/Floaty

Obviously, I wasn't expecting another Melee, but to reduce it to what it is now in terms of depth is shameful.

If this game won't make you start paying attention to Nintendo again, then I don't know what will. This game is truly marvelous. And it's one of the best of all time in my opinion.

But before I talk about how amazing it is, let's take a look at presentation. The game looks absolutely beautiful. The characters take their primary colors unlike the other games where they didn't look too good, the game runs at a faster pace than Brawl(Sorry, but not Melee speed), and the game feels great for both Brawl and Melee players. Recommend it for both audiences. Another thing great about this game is the online. Almost ALL OF THE LAG IS GONE!

Not only is the presentation great, but the gameplay is even better. It feels and plays like a Smash Bros. game. You can even play with 8 Players. Yes, you can have a whole party with chips and everything all dedicated to playing Smash Bros. with friends! You can even bring your Mii into the battle and even select which class he is(i.e: Brawler, Sword Fighter, or Gunner). And even though it isn't as fast-paced as Melee, it still is fast enough to make those lovely Melee combos and enrage your opponent, Call of Duty style. The only problem I have with the gameplay is Smash Tour. More like Smash Bore. They don't give you freedom to select which character to use or even which color. You can also change a stage into an Omega mode, which makes a stage into a Final Destination form. This especially works in For Glory mode online.

In conclusion, this is my favorite Wii U game by far. Not even Xenoblade X will top this game. Heck, not even MARIO KART 8 tops this! If you're too busy playing GTA V on your PS4 and Xbox One to pay attention to Nintendo, this game is the perfect reason why you should return to your childhood.

    Definitely worth paying $60 for.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. These games are supposed to be fun and be a crossover of the main cast of various videogame franchises. Well, to me, this game...AND Brawl fails to meet this. Now compared to the 3DS ver. this one IS better, but not by far. Brawl first introduced a story mode. But guess what? Sakurai decides to remove the story mode they've been working on for this game because 'people are watching it on YouTube' which is as vague as anyone can get.
Now In SSB-64 and Melee we had new characters that retain their popular voices, likeness, and design, and the returning characters experience the same. But someone not right in the head decides that Twilight Princess Link (Akira Sasanuma) is more notable and more recognizable in the Zelda franchise than OoT Link (Nobuyuki Hiyama). The fact that Hiyama didn't voice Link in that game is why people hated it, same went with Twilight Princess Ganondorf (who sounds like he has a cockroach in his throat while inhaling copious traces of helium). They bother to remove Link's Illusion Stab but character who don't need, let alone deserve it, have mash-attacks (like King Dedede, Palutena, Pit, Bowser Jr, Diddy Kong, etc). Not to mention since it's TP Link we are literally FORCED to use the Gale Boomerange which royally sucks. They downright give out too much transformation attacks as Final Smashes (which are mostly downright useless). They apparently had the gall to replace Marth's Shield Breaker with this pansy Thrust of the same name. Lucina is pointless, she literally has the EXACT moveset of Marth, NO DIFFERENCE, not even speed or DMGwise! Upon getting the game, unloicking characters doing events, hr contest and classic mode, there is NOTHING for you to do. Target Blast is a joke, it is really nothing but luck purely. And what were they on to think adding VILLAGER from Animal Crossing would make sense. His side smash is LITERALLY him dropping a bowling ball in front of himself. I can't even comprehend how he can even charge that attack! I'm also tired of the challenges forcing you to be someone that sucks. ie: to get this reward k.O a giant bowser with Tiny olimar in less than 40 seconds!) OLIMAR sucks. He has no reach and even his smash attacks do nothing against him. People are going crazy over this game and I think it's undeserved. This game would be far greater if it had this:
    NOBUYUKI HIYAMA Link
    TAKASHI NAGASAKO Ganondorf.
    NOTHING from Twilight Princess.
Roy and Pichu back (either as a character or assist).

Hell, people say this game added a ton of new modes. No they didn't all the new things you get is: Target Blast, Torphy Rush, Smash Run/Smash Tour (which is really stupid, they barely even explain how much of any of it works), 8-player smash, special orders, and stage builder. Just how miniscule these modes are don't even make much of them worth a single mode in countenance(I'd barely consider them as two modes in total). The Mii Fighters are demeaning. 'There are so many people I can't add so you can create them yourselves as a Mii fighter' says Sakurai. Right, right, So I'm sure I can give a Mii red, blue, pink, or even purple hair, right? Nope, the most you can get out of hair color from miis is blonde, brown, light brown, black, and auburn. The Gunner is a more of a Samus clone than anything. The Brawler is clearly Ryu from Street fighter. The swordfighter is the worst, ALL OF HIS ATTACKS are centered around being ninja-oriented, especially with him constantly having his sword being held in reverse grip most of the time. Why can't you create the moveset why can't you clone from an existing ACTUAL fighter? And to top it all off the Mii Swordfighter's Final Smash SUCKS. He raises his sword and shoots out a myriad of blade beams. But what's that? The Mii Brawlers gets a Dissidia-Omnislash Style final smash. You'd be lucky if Swordfighter's baldebeams even smash an opp. It's worthless. Not to mention. What's the point in creating a fighter if he has NO VOICE? Why can't you just select from a preset voice for custom characters or choose your own from the console memory/sd card?
Bottom line is Melee's easily better.

While the game did have characters from many popular series(Lucas Is Back) and had groundbreaking fighting mechanics, the game seemed to suffer with variety. Often it felt too repetitive and never seemed to change for the better. While it did include other game play than fighting, that game play didn't particularly give me the hook.

Nintendo packed as much content as they could into this. I can safely say that any one who puts 60$ into this game will have received there money's worth. Of course what good is content if the content itself is terrible, but super smash bros. isn't bad content. To shortly explain smash Bros., it's a 2D fighting game consisting of characters who are (with some exceptions) all from Nintendo brand games and they beat the crap out of each other. And it is fun. The control scheme is very simplistic and easy to understand, as you don't have to mess around with memorizing long combos. Despite its simplicity, smash can get very intense if the players are skilled enough, this has been shown by the large competitive community. Of course you don't have to be a competitive smasher in order to like this game, smash is still a great casual game if you wanna play with 1-7 of your friends. Yes I said 7 because this game features an 8-player smash mode. These matches are so hectic and at times I've found myself losing where my character is. It's still a lot of fun, but if you plan on playing this mode, I advise playing on a larger map. There are also tons of control options so chances are you can get enough of your friends together without having to shell out more cash than you need. The returning modes from brawl are the ones that have been staples in the series. Classic, All-star, Event matches, Home-run, target, and multi man smash but some of these modes have been changed. Classic now has a difficulty meter similar to the one in Kid Icarus uprising, where the more money you bet, the greater your rewards are. But if you die, you will lose some of your prizes. You also now can pick the players you fight rather than having it decided for you, which is nice. The final boss has also been changed, and let me just say this, be ready to throw your controller for how many times you will die to this boss. Oh and there is 2-player classic, which is always welcome. Event matches are similar to what they were, except now they have an additional challenge to them as well as having exclusive co-op ones. You also unlock the various event matches based on which ones you do. All star now has you fighting the characters in the order in which they were created chronologically, as in when they came out. They aren't exactly "hard" to beat, but because you have lots of enemies to fight, it's more or less an endurance test for the player. Target Blast has been changed from brawls. In this one, you now have to hit a bomb and blow up the targets angry birds style. I actually liked this mode more than the one in Brawl, though it isn't exactly a mode you'll be playing too much. Multi-man smash is very much the same, although you now have to fight the mii fighters. Speaking of which, mii fighters are now a thing as well as character customization. You get different movesets and can equip stat boosts, but it isn't exactly anything too deep. Still nice addition though. Home run contest is just as fun as it was back in brawl. In terms of new things to do, there is a lot. The new Crazy orders and Master orders are incredibly fun. Crazy orders specifically. If you are a gambling type, beware this mode. You do a challenge and you can keep doing more challenges until the time runs out or you die. You can cash in whenever you want or you can keep going and try to get more rewards. But if you die, you're going to lose a lot your rewards. Master orders is more so a set of challenges you can pay to do rather than like crazy orders, but it can still be fun. Trophy rush is a nice distraction and can be helpful to those trying to get all the trophies. The new smash tour mode is alright. It play's like this Mario party hybrid, where you roll dice and try to get as many fighters as possible. It ends in a final match where you are pitted against one another and the amount of fighters you have determines your stock. It is a little bit complicated, but there's still fun to be had in this mode. The new character rooster is also very impressive. We got plenty of returning characters but we also have tons of new characters, each with there own unique ways to play. Though I do miss Wolf. The online is also much better than on Brawl. Connection is smooth, and the option to play casual or hardcore gives players the ability to get some good competition to test themselves out. But really, what else is there to say, it's smash bros. Sure there isn't an adventure mode in this one, but the amount of other fun modes this game has made me forget about it. Plus do you really need a story in a fighting game. Pick this game up at full price. Don't have a Wii U? Might be time to consider it my friend. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U earns a 10/10, a must own.

Smash is something special. It is the culmination of years and years of Nintendo's hard work to develop franchises that are appreciated, beloved, and celebrated. It is the culmination of years and years of Nintendo's hard work to develop franchises that are appreciated, beloved, and celebrated. It does what very few (arguably no other) game can do, and that is bring together icons that define entire genres of video gaming and brings them together to fight it out in brawls that can be entirely fun, family-friendly, and care-free; or epic matches of insane depth, calculations, and frame-perfect moves that spectators can't get enough of until the announcer declares "GAME!" Super Smash Bros. for Wii U continues the legacy of Smash, with game developer Masahiro Sakurai finding a way to improve on everything he has done so far.

Smash 4 is fast, fluid, and fun. While Melee was praised for its speed and flow, it could sometimes be critiqued for its overwhelming mechanics that got in the way of the fun for the wider audience. Brawl was fluid and fun, but lacked a speed and weight to it that made Melee appeal to the competitive side of the Smash community. Smash 4 finds a way to meet in the middle, creating an engine that allows anyone to pick up the controller, play, and have fun - but also allowing Smashers to enter their lab and dissect every frame of the game until they discover the maximum potential of their fighter.

Beyond the simple "Smash" matches, there are several game modes that allow you to experience different perspectives of the world Sakurai has created. Smash Tour encourages you to try out different characters in a board-game style game, while Classic Mode makes you stick with one fighter while facing off against enemies you wouldn't normally face. As someone who plays Toon Link, I rarely deviate from my wind waking champion, but Smash Tour stretches and challenges me - giving me new appreciation for other fights. My brother often plays Wario, and while he may shift to a patronizing Mario every now and then, I often do not get the opportunity to play another character unless I dabble around in For Glory mode (more on that later). Classic Mode allows you to face off against every character of the roster in unique matches of varying stages. There are many other modes as well, from multi-man mindless melees to trophy rush! (You asked for trophies on Wii U didn't you)?

Speaking of trophies, Smash acts as a museum of not only the fighters you see in the game, but also their respective universe's allies and baddies. Each trophy has an attention to detail that makes you wish each one was real (which leads to amiibo, more on that later). You can spend hours getting lost in the Nintendo lore found within these screens, and Sakurai gives you numerous ways to view them all in their glory.

Speaking of amiibo, let me briefly discuss this neat feature that expands this masterpiece. Amiibo make their debut with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Amiibo are Near Field Communication figurines that you can buy separately, allowing you to tap this physical toy to the Gamepad. This awakens the fighter's trophy in-game that can then be trained to a high-level artificial intelligence as a sparring partner. Outside the game, they are not movable; you can make no poses with them other than their default pose. And yet... I must have them all.

I could go on and on with the amount of content in this game. What is absolutely baffling is that all of this content does not dilute the experience of the individual modes we have grown to love through past Smash entries. As a matter of fact, each is intricately connected in a way that the game is magnified through its size, enhancing the entertainment to a new level. Separate from all of these modes is the online mode. Online you can choose to fight in For Fun or For Glory. For Fun celebrates the mayhem of items, hazards, and more with numerous brawlers causing chaos on the screen, and For Glory brings the fight down to a personal level, with no items, Final Destination formed stages, and a record-keeping system. Whether you fight for fun, glory, friends, or freedom - online mode is definitely worth your interest if you've somehow exhausted all the base-game has to offer, which leads me to my conclusion.

It will take a long time to experience all this game has to offer. To unlock every trophy, every challenge, to complete every mode, and to collect every custom move (which also takes the traditional Smash formula and flips it on its head) would take a long, long time. Once that is done, there is still glory to earn online. As I write this review I think of another mode, another innovation, another piece of charm that sets this game apart from all others out there. Buy it, try it, and enjoy everything it is. It is the game every Wii U owner should have, it is the game that should inspire non-Wii U owners to finally buy a Wii U, and it is the game that will continue to be played until the Wii U's life is done. Show me your moves!

The combat is the best the series has seen and is very accessible to new players but allows enough depth for hardcore gamers and pros of fighters to master the system. The character roster is huge and all characters are so well done, balanced and unique that switching between multiple characters, even ones you don't use often is fun. Also 8 player smash is chaotic and is extremely fun to play with friends. Simply put this is the best game on any console to play when you get together with friends and i spend countless hours smashing it up with mine. The amount of content in this game is mind boggling with tons of trophies to get, soundtracks to unlock, and retro pieces of old games that you get to play. There is also a vast amount of modes, and some characters to unlock that it will keep you busy for a long time. My only gripe that disappointed me was the exclusion of an adventure or story mode like in brawl and melee that for a single player minded person like me was sad to see but none the less this is a must have Wii U game to add to your library. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. One of the best Smash games. Customs add variety of the characters, especially when playing with all the same characters. 8-player Smash is the best feature. You'll like some of the stages before you even have the chance of playing the original games, or just choose the theme that is right for stage and the battle.
The challenges in the game is harder than the ones on the 3DS game, like beating Classic 9.0 without losing a life, you use a Custom. There is the challenge without the Custom, but you are allowed to lose at least one stock.
Smash Tour can only be won by luck, same thing for the challenges of letting a Metroid to steal your stats and trying to get them back.
New characters such as Palutena, and Little Mac are fair enough. I was expecting some characters to have new moves. Dr. Mario uses the same moves that he uses in Melee, which itself is the same Mario's in the past game. Now Mario uses FLUDD, his Cyclone is a Down A. Dr. Mario uses a Doctor Cyclone, and his Jump Punch only hits once, which is fine because that makes him different than other "clones." Lucas is cut from Smash. But, the PK moves that he took from Kumatora is now added Ness' Customs. It would be nice if these protagonists can attack with their own moves or have more MOTHER characters.
There's a lot of stage music that are so great that you can't decide which is best for Smash.
Overall, this game is a no disappoint. You better get this game if want to settle it in Smash.

I’m a huge fan of the Smash Bros series and was eagerly awaiting its release on Wii U and 3DS, hoping it would capitalise on what it’s Wii predecessor had put in place, and it did just that and more.

Being an old school smasher, I enjoyed playing the game with the Gamecube pad, but unfortunately, the adapter is in very short supply, so had to manage with the pro controller and the WiiU pad. These are not the only ways to play though, as you can pretty much use anything in your room to play! Wii remote, nunchuk, classic controller and 3DS can all be used to play on the WiiU version, which is great for people who can’t afford the extra pads.

I’m not going to spoil the unlockables, but there are so many characters and stages to unlock that you’ll have a fun time trying to collect everything including all those trophies and stickers! DLC is also planned for new characters, so you can look forward to new or veteran fighters in the games life span. There is also early access to Mewtwo to those who purchase both 3DS and WiiU versions of the game, a character I actively enjoyed playing with in the Gamecube version.

One thing I do miss from a previous game was the Subspace Emissary mode that has been replaced with Smash Tour in the WiiU. This is due to social media being too easily to access, it can spoil the nostalgia of a storyline if browsing a simple website. Smash Tour does stand tall in its place though, where it takes on the role of a mini Mario Party game, but yourself VS other Miis collect upgrades and fighters for the final battle to see who came out on top.

Nintendo have also given gamers something to take their minds off this though with the inclusion of 8 player smash mode, where the cap used to be 4 players or the slight painful rotation mode, you can now have up to 8 players playing simultaneously, all using their own controller from the many to choose from, without having to wait for someone to be smashed off stage to join in the fun!

Online play is very laggy. The roster is actually a downgrade from Brawl, something I thought I'd never see in the Smash Bros series. Overall it just feels very lazily made, especially with many of the new characters reusing existing mechanics, and 20% of the roster having a counter as one of their B attacks now. The controls feel slippery and imprecise.

When viewed without comparison to other entries in the series, SSB WiiU is an amazing game. It offers tight controls, more balance than many other fighters, approachability yet depth, and hours of fun. It comes packed with content and should satisfy all who pick it up. When compared to previous versions, some will take issue with certain decisions, but the community is pretty happy with this one.

    2. The biggest problem I have with the game is that the gameplay gets really old really fast. I played this thing for 2 or 3 hours, and got bored after that. I can only get some entertainment out of it once in a while because it gets really boring after a couple of hours. I mean, sure, it's fun finding the easter eggs, but other than that, it's not all that entertaining. But when it is fun, it's freaking awesome. Overall, it's a great game, and these are problems that I have with the series as a whole, so any of you who say that's why Melee is better, it's not, because it suffers from these problems too. So, is it worth buying the console so you can play it? Definitely not. Is it still fun? Absolutely.

The game lived up to my personal expectations. I didn't like the smash tour mode, which is the sole reason i didn't give the game a perfect score. But other than that the graphics are crisp, the on-line is finally done right, and Smash Bros had never looked or played better.

Though this game has many references, I feel like this game lacks a theme or at least anything majorly new. The first game was all set in a child's imagination, played out by Master Hand, featuring the Nintendo characters as plush toys that would "come to life" and "duke it out". Melee introduced the characters as trophies, having a way bigger character roster, putting some adventure levels in the game, and introducing us into a new character called Crazy Hand. Brawl created a story mode which featured the theme of society controlling the actions of a creator. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U introduced... um... Smash Tour. It's so missing a theme that it doesn't even have its own creative name to distinguish itself from the other three games. People keep saying that the graphics are way better than Brawl in this game but honestly, I can't tell that much of a difference. As a matter of fact, if it wasn't for the game being in HD, this game would look exactly the same as Brawl. This game feels more like an expansion to Brawl than anything. Even the menus look identical. Despite everything I've said though, it's still a wonderful game. Anyone who sees this game should give it a try. You'll have loads of fun. Expand

I can't say if this game is better than any other Super Smash Brothers game, as this is my first, but I can say that it is probably my favorite game altogether as of now...and here's why.

    The pros:
Pretty much everything works. You won't be worrying about any glitches, or controls that aren't responsive, or some other thing. The characters are all fleshed out, the control scheme, despite needing a small learning curve...perhaps a custom makeover to suit your needs, works very well. It makes for fast paced gameplay, and one great time with friends and family.

The music. The amount of music in this game is humongous for a game, period. I doubt you'll find as much music here in any other video game, in all honesty. And pretty much every track is good, originals and remixes alike. Stuff like Mute City, Mario Galaxy, and Final Destination's remix (ver 2) are all examples of how great the music is in this game.

Customization. You can now customize your characters to not only edit their strengths and weakness, but also add bonus effects to them. But the bonus effects tend to provide a bigger negative than positive. There's also negative bonus effect equipment, which, with a proper set up, can make any character overpowered. There's also custom special moves, meaning you can edit your character's abilities to your liking.

The character roster. It's huge, you'll have a hard time finding a favorite, as each character is unique and fun to play as...except Wii Fit Trainer.

The modes. There's a lot of single player modes here, more than your average game, and each has some new twist. Fight everyone in the game. Go through various foes till you get to the boss fight. Events mode, special orders...and much more. There's also online, meaning you can fight both anyone online, and your friends online as well.

    The cons.

A lot of this actually relates to what I just previously said.

Acquiring customs: This has got to be one of the biggest grind fests I've had to go through. There is absolutely no easy way out of this. You want them? You're gonna have to grind for them. The main problem is that customs are given to you randomly. Literally, every time you play a single player mode, every time, custom moves are handed out randomly. But that's not the main problem...duplicates are.

You see, as you play the game more and more, the chances of you getting new custom moves decreases, but instead of just not giving you as many new custom moves, they give you the same amount...but not really. You'll find that you'll have "acquired" 7 custom moves in the new Classic Mode, only to have them be what you JUST got beforehand. It's a pain, and even though I have 300 custom moves, and unlocked many characters full custom movesets...I really shouldn't have basically gotten absolutely nothing for many of my attempts.

There's also equipment. Trust me, if you don't start selling some of this stuff quick, you're gonna find yourself with easily 1,000+ of these things. Why? Because the majority of customs tends to be custom equipment. They say it's new, but in reality, it's not. It's almost always something you just got, so you're not really getting anything new, you're just getting more equipment.

This IS a problem, because people like customization...people LOVE customization. People are gonna wanna get this stuff as fast as possible, and play the game to it's fullest extent. It's disappointing that I couldn't have had a more definitive way to get this stuff. Same thing with trophies, it's random as to whether you get a new one, or not. However, Final Smash trophies are awarded to those who beat All-Star Mode (on any difficulty, seemingly).

The AI: If you have no friends or family (which I seriously doubt...but who knows), you will quickly stop playing on any mode with any semblance of difficulty, and switch to online. This is because the AI will either perfectly dodge, shield, or roll away from you constantly on levels 8-9 for cpu's. Classic Mode is where this main problem arises, both 8 and 9 have the problem.

All-Star on hard, to a similar extent, but not so much and it makes sense. There's also Classic, where items can't be turned off. You'd think the wise decision would be to go into the group where their damage racks up, and you can easily kill them. But that's not the case. They'll always get the item, because large groups are just...too chaotic at times. But not JUST because of chaos, but it's because they automatically gravitate towards them. Even in a fight, they'll start gravitating towards the thing.

    It's incredibly annoying...

    And lastly, the challenges.

I have not done these challenges. I don't plan on doing them. Many of these challenges are not challenges, but require you to do something like beat All-Star on Hard 49 times...and no one has the patience for stuff like that.

I could go more in-depth for cons and pros, but the character limit sucks. The game is fun, get it

I considered it a fantastic handheld title that would sell the 3DS. The Wii U version of the game is basically the same game as the 3DS, but with a lot more extra features, and HD console graphics. So, is this the game that will sell the Wii U, or are you going to have to spend your pocket money on Nintendo's next console? Let's find out. The gameplay of this game is fantastic! It is probably the most fun you could ever have with a video game. This game is a fighting game, in which you get to play as one of over 50 different famous video game characters. The characters all come from a diverse selection of video games made by Nintendo, Sega, Capcom, and Namco (mostly Nintendo). It is also a very unique fighting game, as unlike most fighting games, this game does not rely on health bars or one on one fights. In this game, the object is to knock the opponent off the screen by building up enough damage to knock them off. Also, you can have up to 8 players fighting against each other in the same match. Most fighting games also have complicated special moves that are insanely difficult to learn. Super Smash Bros. on the other hand, made it easy by making all of the characters have the exact same button combinations for all of their moves. This makes the game that much easier to just pick up and play. On top of that, this game also has multiple game modes, each one providing unique ways to play. I can't list them all here, but I will give you a rundown of as many as I can. The main game mode in Super Smash Bros. For Wii U is Smash. This mode has everything you need if you want to have a normal battle with CPUs or friends. The next game mode is called Smash Tour, in which you compete against CPUs or friends on a giant game board. Then there's Classic Mode, which is basically this game's version of Arcade Mode, which is found in most other fighting games. Finally there is All-Star Mode, in which you have to fight every character in the game. There are also loads of collectibles to unlock as you play through the game. These collectibles can be trophies, more music, and more special moves for your character. Which reminds me, another special feature of this game is the ability to create your own fighter. You can create your own version of a preexisting fighter, or you can create your own fighter out of your Mii. This is a fantastic addition to an already fantastic game. Overall, this game's gameplay is insanely fun and enjoyable for pretty much anyone. It goes so much to the point where I would have to say that the only real problem I have with it is that in some cases, it seems too much like the previous games in the series. However, the addition of new characters, stages, character customization, and new modes such as Smash Tour take care of this problem for me. As for the graphics, the game looks every bit as fantastic as it plays. Everything in this game is rendered in HD, making the game one of the most beautiful and fun games I have ever played. This game is much more colorful than any of the previous games in the series. This game has some of the best graphics I have ever seen in a video game. As for the overall presentation, as you can probably guess, the presentation of this game is also fantastic. It runs perfectly well on the Wii U. I did notice the game froze on me once, but it only lasted for a brief second, and it never happened again. The sound design and music is also very good. The composers for this game really did a great job creating the soundtrack by remixing old Nintendo themes, and creating new themes. Overall, I would have to say that this is not only the best game on the Wii U right now, it is also the best game of the entire Super Smash Bros. series. It is very easy to just pick up and play, has beautiful graphics, and a great presentation to boot. This is a game that everyone needs to play. I recommend going out and buying this along with a Wii U right now!
    Gameplay: 10/10

As expected, this Wii U version is a collection of superlatives: Smash never looked better, never featured so many characters, never offered so many gameplay modes, and (perhaps most importantly) was never quite as crazy as it is here.

If you’re new to the series, here’s all you need to know: Smash is about having every big Nintendo game star, as well as a few important mascots from third parties, battling it out in crazy free-for-all bouts. To sweeten the deal even more, you'll be able to grab famous items from past games (such as Mario's mushrooms, Kirby's star wand or Earthbound's Franklin badge) and use them to defeat your foes, as well as summon literally hundreds of other characters from in-game trophies and poké-balls to help you out. It's deliciously chaotic, but also features a lot of depth in its controls; so much so that a sizeable part of the fanbase is made of cutthroat tournament players, who will eschew the game's more quirky aspects (such as items and variable stage designs) in order to get a more streamlined one-on-one fighting experience.

I gotta be honest and admit that the hardcore tournament side of the franchise doesn't interest me much, so I won't be able to comment on that and still know what I'm talking about. What I do enjoy, however, is how crazy Smash can get when all you want to do is have some friends over and battle the day away. Every character has the same set of move commands, so the game is relatively easy to just pick up and play. The results of each command, however, will vary immensely from one fighter to the next, making it quite a joy to explore the 40-plus character roster.

Speaking of the roster, one of the best side aspects of Smash is how it gets every nostalgia muscle tingling. There's just something about seeing Mario and Sonic go at each other (something that would be unthinkable back in the time I started gaming). When, say, Mega Man and Donkey Kong join in, it just becomes the sort of thing that would blow the mind of young me. The game also features a host of trophies to collect, representing characters (from the usual superstars to long-forgotten sidekicks), items, and, uh, assorted inanimate objects, such as a can from Hogan's Alley. Better yet: every trophy comes with an accompanying paragraph of text explaining the origins of whatever's being represented. It's the kind of attention to detail that makes me pore over a title for more than its gameplay.

As you may know, Smash for Wii U has no shortage of modes to conquer and things to do. Aside from regular Smash battles and the trophy gallery, you have a music player with dozens of tunes from old games (even if some of them are re-arranged in unfortunate ways), a fun board-game mode, a very handy (if sometimes laggy) online mode, and more alternate ways to play than I could list here from memory. Of course, there's also amiibo integration, allowing you to summon whichever figurines you have with you to join the battle and level up accordingly. It's a cool little feature, even if it doesn't really amount to much.

Customization of characters and stages is also available, and it's one of the features that had me most excited prior to getting the game. The character creator works perfectly, allowing you to create fighters out of every Mii you have on your console, and customize each one with different moves and characteristics. The stage creator, on the other hand, was my biggest disappointment here. While it puts the gamepad to very good use, the options are very limited when it comes to actually crafting your stage, with just a few background options instead of a fully-customized editor. There are cool things you can do with it, but sadly there's no easy way to share your creations online, which further dampens its appeal.

As you can see, yes, Smash for Wii U features a nearly intimidating number of features, and it gets the vast majority of them absolutely right. Be it playing against the computer, online opponents, three other friends on your couch, or, ahem, up to seven others in eight-player battles (trust me, it's one of the most hilarious experiences you can have with any video game, ever), the game oozes the kind of wide-eyed fun that is the very reason most of us play video games in the first place. It's poised to be one of the evergreen masterpieces of this generation, and it's an absolute must-buy.

Whats better than having you and your friends play with all your favorite childhood characters? Nothing. Thats why every Super smash bros gets great reviews. Its so fun playing smash with your friends but when your playing alone its a good game but when the boys come over its goes from a 8 to a 10

It's an incredible game with a lot of content.
The only problem is that it doesn't have an Adventure Mode but besides that, it's a must-play wii u game

This is one of the greatest game ever made. The soundtrack is undeniably the best in video game history. it includes the best tracks of Nintendo's (and third party companies) history, which would make this the best soundtrack ever on its own, but it also includes several remixes of old tracks that sound AMAZING! Look up Spark Man Stage music on YouTube and you will know what I mean. TheyThis is one of the greatest game ever made. Look up Spark Man Stage music on YouTube and you will know what I mean. They even decided to go ahead and remix music from Mario Kart 8! A game released a few months ago on the Wii U as well! That's called dedication. Anyway, the gameplay has been perfected from past games. Remember those characters in Brawl of Melee that could spam their regular combo? Yeah, screw that, those aren't found here, thank God. The roster of characters is astounding, including characters like Mega Man, Pac-Man, Rosalina (a personal favorite of mine), and even MewTwo in the near future. Also, when you get above 100% in damage, your fighter now has a smoke effect that instantly warns you when you are at risk of being killed. Also, when you attack an opponent when they are at a dangerous health, they now emit a red spark letting you know that they would probably die then. The maps in this game are the best I have seen in a Smash Bros game, or any fighting/racing/party game. They are all unique in cool ways, like how the Mario Galaxy stage has its own special gravity along the planet, and the Mario Kart 8 stage puts you up against the track at different angles so the karts can do massive damage from multiple locations. Unlike the 3DS version, the stages that returned from past games were much better than stuff like Jungle Japes on 3DS (lol wat). In terms of new game modes, there is so much new stuff here. First, they expand on the returning modes by adding competitive/co op multiplayer to familiar game modes. Also, classic mode is changed drastically. It features you on a game board advancing based on how well you do. Target Blast is okay. It certainly isn't as good as before, but it is still decent. They should have included the old mode, but whatever. All star mode has been improved from the 3DS version since you don't have to jump over the door to get to the health items. The door is on an elevated platform, so you can walk under it to get to the items. The online mode is the best ever with it actually functioning unlike Brawl. It features For Fun and For Glory, depending on how good you think you are. The game has SO MANY CONTROLLER OPTIONS. There is something in the controller department for anybody. The only problem i have with this game is that the blowing item thing from Skyward Sword is ridiculously OP. Buy this game. Give Nintendo all of your savings even though the game only costs $60. Just consider the rest to be a tip for making this masterpiece in the first place. Expand

El modo de 8 jugadores, se pasan las horas jugando, excelente juego mejor que melee, para pasar el rato, o mas bien muchisimo tiempo =). Si se juega con el control del game cube, para mi, la experiencia de juego es mejor.

This game had me for hours. Stage unlocks, character unlocks, challenges, classic and the amiibo's!

First problem is the lack of story mode. Though some previous titles didn't have a story, the build up for SSB4's story was quite big, but got cancelled due to a leak (which I think is ridiculous). Upon completing everything, it would be nice to have something extra to play on, especially what the cutscenes and the story could of been.

Second problem is the amount of unlockable characters. There aren't much unlockable characters, because most are included in the starter game. I feel as though Nintendo should of made half of the starter characters locked through challenges for replay value to stay high.

But, in all due respects, this is a great game, and in my opinion is the saving grace of the Wii U.
