    I honestly believed there wasn't a Sonic game worse than '06 but there is. This game is just nothing but a big pile of crap eaten by a gorilla that pooped it out than fed it to a bat with rabies and then left to rot in sweltering heat for a billion years. If Sonic fans were looking for a good sonic game, which there haven't been for a few years than don't get this game because everythingI honestly believed there wasn't a Sonic game worse than '06 but there is. Honestly i would rather endure Sonic 06's glitch fest rather than this 3 hour snooze fest. And honestly if you beat the game without falling asleep from boredom than I'm proud of you.     I was afraid to try this game, and i ignored my fears. I regretted it.

    Although, i gave it a 3 because i enjoyed the cut scenes and it actually pushed me on to watch the Animated series they made, which is pretty good... but like the cutscenes, in my opinion.

    I love this game it is different from other Sonic games I've played and there are glitches in places but I've seen them in loads of games if you're a fan of Sonic boom I'd give the games a chance there's lots of exploring in this game you get to play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy and I love the cut scenes and if you don't mind battling lots of lyrics robots and you enjoy Sonic boom II love this game it is different from other Sonic games I've played and there are glitches in places but I've seen them in loads of games if you're a fan of Sonic boom I'd give the games a chance there's lots of exploring in this game you get to play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy and I love the cut scenes and if you don't mind battling lots of lyrics robots and you enjoy Sonic boom I think you should give this game a go… Expand

    I'll start with the positives: story isn't as bad as twilight, the redesigns aren't horrible and Amy is less hatable. Keyword: less.

    Now the negatives.

    There are so many bugs and gamebreaking glitches. More than half the game can be skipped, and sometimes you have to restart everything.

    Music is a disgrace to the good music of the franchise.

    Knuckles' personality got screwed over, and is now the worst character in the franchise.

    Shadow's character arc got completely ruined, and is now a generic dark counterpart. But this time, he's a loner who hates friendship and ponies! (Which is why Rogue is not in this game).

    Frame rate. Just- frame rate. that is all.

    Combat is nothing more than button mashing.

    Sonic's arms are now permanently in their werewolf form, because now they're stretchy.

    Puzzles don't work.

    Death does Jack ****

    So called "quips" are intolerable.

    But even if you overlook all of those errors, the main problem is that Sonic can't move fast, which is his trademark feature. There are some fast parts, but even if you overlook the massive drop in quality those are generaly unenjoyable.

    Don't get this.

    Please.

    (Also, some people here are saying that the spin off cartoon is good, and therefore the game is good.. First off - no, it's not. Second off - we are judging the game, not the cartoon.)    … Expand

    This game is mediocre.... Well after playing this game i think the combat is ok but the frame rate is just eww,the music is forgettable but i think it got to much hate,the stories are average.I rate this game 6/10.

    This is like Sonic '06 all over again, but it's even worse. I absolutely despise the redesigns, and there are so many bugs and glitches. I definitely do not recommend that you go out and buy this game for yourself. And if you already have this game, sell it on eBay and give it to someone who really cares about Sonic.

I had the opportunity to play along with some of my friends and despite the graphical quality when 2-player are on the screen, the games still continues funny to play. It's immersive, it's big and it deserves to be played*.Sonic Boom is a title that can be compared to great mystery. Looking for another point of view, the WiiU itself has not been saw with good eyes, this implies in a non-sense criticism over the game (that is actually very good). There are a lot of good games, games better than Sonic Boom on the console, but this doesn't mean Sonic Boom has something wrong on it. No way! I agree that some adjusts could have been done before releasing the game and I assume that one year more would be sufficient for the challenge.

    Considering the level design and hardware capacity, one should say that Sonic Boom on the WiiU is relatively good as Knack on PS4. they're just alike in essence. Games with good graphics and level design, but hated by many that couldn't understand the projectt's ambition. Both great games. Sonic is an icon and deserved more love. That's why I'm giving it a 10 out of 10. But I hope some minor adjustments comes in some future patches.    … Expand

    I don't doubt that on release this game was a buggy mess but for someone who picked it up after the uk release it seemed mostly fixed. I have had very few glitches or problems and the game is fun enough. It doesn't do much for me as a big Sonic fan but as a platformer fan it does the job. Low expectations helped it out I think.     Boring ass game, horrible graphics, OST used in a cradle with glitches rivaling that of 06, this games is boring and shallow. The character interactions are good as they seem normal. 2/10.

Don't get my wrong, I love Sonic games and the series as a whole but this is NOT Sonic. I don't even consider this a real sonic game because it's not apart of the main canon.     Not a bad, nor terrible game, but it's lacking the fast classic Sonic action that everybody loves. It has OK graphics, visuals, and gameplay for a WIIU title, and is overall not bad. Don't listen to the people giving this game a 0 or 1/10. If you're a die hard Sonic fan, why not give this one a shot?

    This is by far my least favourite Sonic game. This is even worse than Sonic 06 and Sonic Free Riders because the combat is atrocious and the most Sonic-like level suffer from glitches the most.

    If you want a better Sonic game for the Wii U, please get Sonic: Lost World instead.

    Alright so to start, I was really siked when I heard this was announced. I really looked forward to it and I spent tons of time in preparation, even writing out the details of the characters in short stories in order to better immerse myself as them. I knew things were going to be a lot different from the other games so I was a bit worried that it might get complicated, but it seemed toAlright so to start, I was really siked when I heard this was announced. I really looked forward to it and I spent tons of time in preparation, even writing out the details of the characters in short stories in order to better immerse myself as them. I knew things were going to be a lot different from the other games so I was a bit worried that it might get complicated, but it seemed to work out pretty well all things considered! The gameplay is pretty fun, but it's the story where this review gets where it was.

    I noticed immediately that the four main characters were different than before. Unlike in the past, everyone seemed to have some sort of more rugged or darker backstory than I'd come to expect from the other games. But I didn't mind it. I played as the happy one this time and I wouldn't have worry about it.

    So the story starts out with the four characters meeting after being attacked. Of course, the central lead being Leo who is a loser than nobody really respects is accused of having a part in a terrorist attack that his brother, Valorin, was believed to have a huge part in. The other lead character and possible love interest, Nico, seems to had been caught in the mess along with the two lead supports Ava and "John Doe". They successfully battle all the members of Primus Terminus and seeming about to capture Leo's brother, our characters suddenly find themselves sucked into an alternate reality where things have changed slightly. Spooky!

    After fighting through the same area (Ugh, repetitive much!?), we once again meet with Leo's brother. However, there is a notable shift in attitude from before as his brother claims to either have no recollection of Leo or does not care about him. After killing him, we are returned to the real world just in time for a train to crash. The main characters seem just about dead right then.

    But wait, miracle science has worked to revive them! All for the low price of 20,000,000 giers (their money). A man named Absolon (super lame character) then tells them they must work off their debt in ways they see fit. As well as this, Harkin Macht has told Leo he must track down his brother or else he will be declared a terrorist as well! Wowzers!

    So now the main characters must earn money while tracking down the movements of the terrorist group Terminus Prime! Along they way, they meet numerous colorful faces like a creature named Popo and Robot trapped under shipping supplies. Personally, my favorite character is Tat though. But I was left utterly disappointed when the creator seemed reluctant to reveal whether or not Tat was actually a robot. I think he should've taken a bold move and just gone for it regardless of what criticisms he may receive for it.

    I remember my favorite line from the game as well. "You're all diamonds", one that was emotionally moving as Leo looked down at his hand in the hospital room while sitting next to Nico. I couldn't help but feel my self tearing up as he said that before Tat used the Aionus shift to blow up the moon and prevent it from crashing down into the earth which would've ended life as we know it.

    I tried to like the game more, but in the end I have to give it a solid 4/5. Eight endings and if you get the genocide ending, it ruins the other ones? I'm sorry, but that's far too much pressure to handle. It has annoying minigames such as picking out words in emails and then making sure to send those messages without any way of knowing if you picked the right one until the end of the game. It also has an annoying mechanic where normally there is two choices but you have to stall for time in order for option 3.

    After reading comments by the author on what he was planning to do, I was a bit surprised.

    I don't understand all the negativity. when i played through it I had a good time. It is a great fast pasted open adventure Sonic Game that I really enjoyed. You can play as 4 characters, Sonic Tails Knuckles & Amy and they have their own special abilities.     I really enjoy the open world exploration stages that are really large and fun to explore. I like using the hydro dash to run on water and the zip lines to move across the large worlds quicker. Basically from what i've seen this game is being hated just because it is different. But don't let that get you down. Next time someone says this is a "Bad game" think twice and try it yourself. You may disagree!
    Overall this game does not deserve all the hate and criticism it gets. Yes I am sad about that but yes, I still enjoy the game.    … Expand

    after patch this game can be a bunch of fun and is no where near as bad as sonic 06 and I like the open world in a sonic game. as I say that's AFTER patch still though.

It had so much potential, when I saw a trailer for this game on TV, I thought it was going to be decent, but I thought very VERY wrong. The gameplay is boring, it's glitchy as hell, it runs like hell, it doesn't even look good! The gameLet me just put this to rest, Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric is not very good. It's horrible, it's quite possibly one of the worst Wii U games i've ever played. It had so much potential, when I saw a trailer for this game on TV, I thought it was going to be decent, but I thought very VERY wrong. The gameplay is boring, it's glitchy as hell, it runs like hell, it doesn't even look good! The game is somewhat funny, but it just makes the characters look like complete idiots. And don't even get me started on the character designs; I know the game was made alongside a different company, but still, whoever thought thought it would be a good idea to give Knuckles steroids needs to be fired. All jokes aside, this game is horrible, and to be honest, I found more enjoyment out of Sonic 06 than this. If you see this game at any game store, don't buy it, if you're a hardcore Sonic fan, then be my guest.

It really feels like an adventure, not like a forgettable set of levels, gameplay is very varied, you even get to pilot a submarine. Graphics are pretty good and I'd say they're the best I've seen in a Sonic game, developers really did put CryEngine to good use. I won't lie, there are rough edges and blurry textures at times as well as slight framerate drops, but it doesn't spoil the enjoyment at all. One level even looked like something out of Tron, I was really amazed. Also, I didn't encounter any bugs that didn't allow me to proceed in my playthrough right after the game's launch. Four playable characters are really well done, switching between them feels seamless and natural. Yes, and smashing stuff along with enemies with Amy's hammer feels really satisfying.
    I also liked the exploring and side missions, it's a nice touch that doesn't feel a like chore, it felt like a good Zelda game at times. All in all it's a solid platformer game, maybe it's not what most Sonic fans expected, but you can't please everyone.    … Expand

    I think this could rank up there with the worst games of all time. Do not fall for the propaganda reviews of 9 and 10's. They are mostly new accounts that have only signed up to rate this game and the other sonic boom release. Very fishy, it seems a lot of places are doing this when their game flops? Naughty.

    Boom is glitchy and its framerate is choppy, but apart from that, it's not a terrible game. It story is stock. Its design is stock. Its visuals and music are stock. Its characterization is stock. Its combat and running sections and general platforming is stock. And by stock I really do mean stock, as in they picked every rejected or mediocre parts they didn't want to put in other games.

    This is what really needs to be remembered: Boom isn't bad because it's terrible, Boom is bad because it has no soul. This game was shat out as fast as possible with no soul or any kind of creativity or love. Nothing in it has identity, is daring or specifically Sonic, it's just a stock, boring platformer with nothing for itself where the brand Sonic was put on the cover.

    For the love of god, SEGA, if you want to make a Sonic spinoff, which is already stupid since after Generations was great you made Lost World which was already stock, mostly soulless and generally boring, but if you want to make a spinoff while you're already trying to secure a market for your main series, AT LEAST DONT SHOVE THE GAME IN THE HANDS OF SOME DEV WHO CLEARLY COULDNT CARE LESS AND JUST WANTED TO GET IT OVER WITH.

    Another **** on Sonic's legacy, it'll live through it, but for god's sake I really hope SEGA management all commit sudoku, because this game is a disgrace to the fans, a disgrace to kids who might buy it, and a disgrace to Sonic.

    I always tried to be forgiving with Sonic because underneath the ocean of terrible concepts or ideas there was always something of value. Even in 06 for all its atrociousness there was ambition and effort, even if the game was forced out while it was still an alpha because even back then, SEGA was a terrible company that understands nothing. But here there is nothing to forgive, because there is nothing under. It's a game nobody wanted to make, nobody poured ideas into, and nobody wants to play.    … Expand

The game in fact is fun for casual gaming. But for die-hard Sonic fans, it is like a kick in the groin.     Don't get me wrong, this game IS arse, but it is better than Sonic 06. I just think this is better than 06 because the storyline isn't like 06's. I do hate the redesigns though, especially Knuckles', because he was my favourite character.

    And SEGA, DO NOT screw up the next Sonic game.

    What do you think of when someone brings up a Sonic game? The gameplay? Not here! The story? Why would you ask about the story? At least the music... No they screwed that up too. Glitches? Sorry they patched those... If you need a Sonic game on Wii u, pick up Sonic Lost World. Sonic Lost World isn't great but still more fun than this.

    I was going to get this game until I heard bad reviews so I give this game 3/10 because of it's glitches even worse than Sonic 06 the game itself is worse than Sonic 06. Horrible sega. Hopefully Fire and Ice is better than this.

None of the glitches detracted from my gameplay experience (unlike in Sonic '06, where you have to reset the game if you mess up the Silver fight, or when you get stuck on a wall as Knuckles). The framerate drops never happened to me at times where it was vital to have a quick reaction.
    This game was easily the funnies Sonic game on the market. While a lot of the jokes fall flat, a few of them actually made me laugh out loud. Regardless, this game is marketed towards 6-12 year-olds. It makes sense for someone of my age to not think all the jokes were funny.
    The story was average. Evil guy wants to destroy all organic life forms and the heroes stop him. Nothing special, like in Sonic Adventure 2 or Unleashed, but nothing horrible and confusing like in Sonic '06. The time travel segment makes a lot of sense and is very thought provoking... at least to me.
    People say this game is worse than Sonic '06, but it's really not. While the combat got repetitive near the end for me (I played though the first half of the game twice, so this wouldn't happen to me if I hadn't), it's nowhere near the repetitiveness of Sonic '06, where most characters only have 1 useful attack. The loading screens are also nowhere near as long, and like I said, the story is better and there are less troublesome glitches (at least in my playthough).

    The difficulty curve evolved quite nicely throughout the game. Thoughout the game, enemies and platforming gradually got harder. The game itself is very easy, however. There are no game overs and you rarely run out of rings because 1) you don't lose a lot when you get hit and 2) the game gives you way more rings than you'll ever need. Honestly, I'm glad this game was easy. If it wasn't, it would be frustrating.

    While the story mode is on the short side, there are tons of collectibles and multiplayer modes. I didn't find the multiplayer minigames to be all that fun, but others have. Unless you get all the 20 chests and 15 crowns on your first go though a level, you will not want to go back. There are 8 levels, and all of them are very lengthy. The combat got too repetitive by the time I beat the game that I felt as if getting all the collectibles wasn't worth my time.

    The graphics are stylized. Cell-Shades. Sometimes, the style doesn't look good. How visually impressive the game looks depends on the lighting. Some areas make the game look like it was actually made in 2014. Other times, the game can look like it was made with Roblox...

    In the end, I really can't recommend this game to anyone, since you most likely won't have as good of a time as I did with it.    … Expand

    All games mascots change their appearance , that's normal , but Sonic is also worsened , the game is boring and the new look of the characters is hateful (that according to some fans) want to make a game that revives sonic, sonic it is very good character .

    I played the demo out of curiosity, and had to put it down after 5 or so minutes because it was so awful, the controls are horrible, the combat is clunky, the frame rate is horrible, and the voice acting is worse than all of these thinks combined, on the plus side the music, while it's not good, doesn't make me want to kill myself.

He went from an arrogant wanna-be superior to Sonic to a non-brained buff dummy. I'm actually serious. Good traits, but not memorable. The frame rate doesn't even come close to 30. It constantly drops especially in Multiplayer. And the graphics aren't even good. Yes, a Wii U system, which is suppose to have NEXT GEN GRAPHICS has terrible graphics in this game. It makes the Wii U look like a PS2 graphics wise.

    Now if you thought THAT was bad, wait until you see the gameplay. It isn't even based off of speed like in other Sonic titles. Even though it has speed sections, the frame rate still gets in the way. Not only that, there is also a COMBAT and PUZZLE function in the game, which are uninspired and bland. The combat has no combos whatsoever, the puzzles are are easy, and there is no challenge. There is no penalty when you die and your ring count is maxed out to 100 rings. And you lose a few rings every hit instead of loosing all of them. So rings are just health replenishers in this game. You can increase it, but you must link this game to Sonic boom: Shattered Crystal a $40 GAME to increase it.

    For my verdict, it's possibly the worst Sonic game of all time. The TV Show spin off is good, but definitely not this waste of $50. I got my copy off of the eShop, but there is a reason it only sold 400k+ copies. Because it sucks. And will always.

    You're probably thinking I think Sonic will or needs to die all because of this game. Well, I don't. But SEGA may be forced to do just that or go bankrupt if they keep this crap up. All of the bankruptcy threats or loosing money from SEGA I all blame on this game. SEGA, just make an Adventure 3. You really have no option. And if you don't, have fun going bankrupt.    … Expand

In this new adventure I saw a beautiful open world game in which it only took a few minutes to get from location to location.     People really need to take a step back. Sure, it has no polish, but it still worked fine. And it did mroe than that. The story was funny and light, and the first half of it is just how I want my Sonic. The controls are beautiful, so I found it nice, and the level designs were very simple, but fun. It's an average game, but still a good one.

I really, REALLY wanted to like this; to sneer at all of the die-hard fans who moan at the slightest change of design in a Sonic game, and the Sonic Boom show is great! You can really awesome characters that are funny and witty too, it's definitely possible, just don't make them the way SEGA does. Easy as that.

    No signs of any care from the developers, they didn't even TRY polishing the game. 3 years in development? More like 3 years of slackin' off eating greasy burgers and talking about how much money their wallets can carry.

    Fun Fact: When this game first came out, the officials didn't even allow any reviews of the game to be out for a while, just to reel in as much money as possible. That's... just, pathetic.

    Hey, what's more funny?: The fact that this game is about as broken as the infamous Sonic '06 or that a group of people thought this was a complete, playable, and fun game for the world to enjoy?

    The animations aren't bad, but they're not good by any means.

    There are glitches aplenty, not to say that no game is without glitches, but when a game is oozing with almost game breaking glitches every few seconds, there is a definite problem.

    The game often feels like its trying to be too many things at once - a platformer, a beat em up, a block puzzle, even an RPG. At certain parts it feels like they're changing between different kinds of camera controllers and player controllers to completely mix up the experience the player is receiving. There are some games that effectively do something like this, there are even some games that can effectively mix together a bunch of genres seamlessly - but this game is no where near being that.

    The art, style, and models are the only thing this game has going for it.

    What a poor game. It doesn't deserve the hate it gets. It's a great Wii U title with great combat (reminiscent of Sonic Unleashed), comedy (reminiscent of every Sonic game starting with Sonic Adventure 2) and graphics (new designs may be a little............). I only faced 3 mandatory glitches, 1 less than my experience with Sonic 06 (another spectacular game)

    This game has earned its spot in hell. Hell is the only place for Sonic Boom. With the incredibly repetitive writing, constant glitches, an awful story, and bad graphics, Sonic Boom may very well be Satan himself. Even as a Sonic fan, it is extremely evident that Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric is not good. Poor Sonic.

    While not being a game that's unplayable, it's certainly not a great game. It has many problems, but... I can't say it's the worst Sonic game ever. In my opinion, Sonic 06 is worse. However, the game is pretty bad. The story is bleak, the combat can be at most average, the storytelling is garbage, and the Co-op is pretty bad. If you didn't know, if you played Co-op, you'll most likelyWhile not being a game that's unplayable, it's certainly not a great game. It has many problems, but... The Knuckles infinite jump glitch is giving people the ability to beat this game in an hour. I mean, if the glitches and graphical errors in this game weren't so funny I'd have to bring down the rating. And not only that, this game hasI'm giving this game a 4/10 for its glitches.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric is a good idea for a game starring the blue blur on paper, that just goes horribly wrong. I'm just going to start with the game's major flaws. The game isn't one that runs well. When you have the game run the way it's supposed to, it's 30 FPS. But the frame-rate isn't consistent and pops all over the place. I'm not mentioning the various bugs and glitches here, because I didn't run into any, but I know they exist. The game isn't exactly going to be winning any awards in the graphics department either. The game looks bad, I've seen worse, but I know the Wii U is capable of much better than that. Pop-in is EVERYWHERE. Not to mention when Co-op comes into play, the lighting engine completely turns itself off. Basically no shadows are seen.

    The combat is incredibly basic. There are 2 attack buttons. A normal attack button, and a special button. And while that could have worked, when there's no way to upgrade combat to earn more combos, the game feels tedious and a button masher. Doesn't help much that whenever you're not hydro-dashing, the game's speed is slow. Made even worse by the huge hub worlds, especially Bygone Island.

    Speaking of the upgrade system, I don't have a problem about the collectibles (mainly because this game is ridiculously easy), but the upgrades do next to nothing besides the health upgrade, but you need Shattered Crystal (the 3DS Version) to do so. So you'd need $90 to make the game even easier.

    Doesn't mean I didn't find anything positive to say about the game, however. The story may not be the best thing ever (in fact, this story has the most plot holes I've ever seen, and doesn't even try to explain this new world, despite it being a PREQUEL), but I can praise the character interactions. And I like the game's main villain, Lyric. His motive is an actual reason to be a villain, which is more than I can say for villains like Lost World's Deadly Six. And while the soundtrack is mostly forgettable, there are 1 or 2 songs I actually like.

    Do not buy this game, even if you think its a kid's game that people treat too harshly. It has tons of glitches, slow pace and the speed parts are laggy. The graphics are bad and even worse if you want to play 2 player. The only good part is to be able to use 4 different characters. For your own sake, do not buy this game.

    I guess you could say that Sonic Team starting doing their crystal meth again and forgot what a Sonic was. And by crystal meth, I mean that Sonic Team must have thought there were bugs all over the game and tried to pick them off. Thus the game has so many scars and cuts because of that.

    This is a glitch that occasionally breaks out into a game. The only reason it deserves a point is because it's hilarious to watch for the first 10 minutes, then it becomes painful. I wouldn't give this game to Adolph Hitler because that would violate the rules of the Geneva Convention.

The game is, fun, to an extent, it's not world shattering, in fact, it's very reminicent of Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, consistant slowdown, slow characters, unintersting combat, and many glitches, but underneath, it's quite solid. The game is, fun, to an extent, it's not world shattering, in fact, it's very reminicent of Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, consistant slowdown, slow characters, unintersting combat, and many glitches, but underneath, it's quite solid. The level design is very strong, and works very well with the slower characters, the puzzles are very simple but they are fun, and the separate gameplay styles add depth while not straining the formula to it's limits. The biggest problem is the pacing, every 5 minutes you'll come across a combat section where you'll spend the next what feels like 10 minutes beating up robots. There's also the mach-speed sections, which are that by name only, the most baffling thing to me, is that you can stop during these sections, the same with the running on water moments, and sections where you control the water-thingy, are so awkward and stiff.
    So overall, Rise of Lyric, is a very average game, it's not as bad as many people say, but I can see why they compare it to Sonic 06, but yeah, it's not too bad, just ignore the awful puns.    … Expand

    I actually really liked the game! I enjoyed the exploration and huge hub worlds. The music was good. The voice acting was top notch! The Characters were good. And while the Graphics didn't live up to their full potential, they were okay.

    This game is a fine platformer, it's just not a sonic game. The jokes are pretty funny, though. The main problem about the game is that it's slow, so you can't run through hub worlds.

And don't tell me it's because that it's on the Wii-U: Bayonetta 2 came out just a bit before Sonic Boom, and that game looks amazing. Lighting effects are weak, and the framerate just dies on a consistent basis. In theory, the game runs at 30 FPS. In practice, it rarely, if ever, reaches that. Often did gameplay feel sluggish and painful due to the 15-10 FPS I usually got.

    The music is completely forgettable. All of them consist of generic orchestral tracks that will leave your memory shortly after they stop playing. Not that you can hear them over the obnoxious, non-stop chatter between mutated, bandaged Sonic and all of his mutated, bandaged friends. They will constantly act surprised when they encounter things such as bounce pads, even after they used them dozens of times. They are more than happy to gloat about how much they love rings. They will never fail to point out that a particular enemy is doing a particular thing. It gets annoying, and fast.

    What makes it worse is that the voice acting is pretty awful. A lot of the lines don't seem to have any energy or emotion put into them, the jokes and one-liners end up falling flat, even to the most minor of audiences ("Dino-might!" will never, ever, be a good pun), and you'll be begging to turn off the voices soon enough.

    As for the game itself, Sonic and company were chasing Eggman down a road, get ambushed by robots including Metal Sonic (Oddly enough, Metal Sonic is still rocking his Sonic CD look), and were forced to flee into a ruin that only Sonic could open. After this, they accidentally free Lyric from a prison, and he's off to destroy the world for reasons. The game tries to mix 3D platforming, 3D character action, and 2D platforming gameplay in one package. Did they get even one of them right? Absolutely not.

    First, the 3D character action. This is no Platinum game, let me tell you that much. You have a light attack, heavy attack, and a special attack. The movesets for all the characters are very limited, and you'll likely just end up spamming light and heavy attacks to beat the very durable enemies. Note that I said they were durable, and not hard. Even the most basic enemies take ages to defeat seemingly for no reason other than to pad out the game.

    You can switch characters at any time, and they do have their own attacks and gimmicks: Sonic can spin dash, Tails can glide, Knuckles can wall climb (He will tell you multiple times that it's the only way to travel, and even now I don't know what he means by this), and Amy can triple jump. They don't seem to have any speed or power differences, so use whoever you want. You can switch anytime you want...in theory.

    All characters also receive a grapple beam, which can be used to pull enemies and objects, or hang on to wires. There's no real neat gimmick that takes advantage of this, and I often found myself using it only when I needed to progress.

    The game has a hub world where you can accept side quests, find out what you're doing next, and travel to the different areas. I don't know why, because the last couple times Sonic games had a hub, it didn't work out all that well. This one is easily the worst out of all of them, because it's just a barren wasteland. It's easy to become lost and disoriented when everything looks the same. I, as a grown adult, got lost a few too many times, and this is being sold as a kid's game. Imagine how kids will do. You get a map, but only after you put a decent amount of time in the game.

    Doing side quests will net you upgrades. All of them are pretty awful, save for one: Money Bags. Money Bags increases the max amount of rings you can carry, and rings count as your health. As such, Money Bags is a health upgrade. Standard stuff, right? Except this health upgrade requires you to link the 3DS Sonic Boom game to your Wii-U. At least a $40 paywall. For a health upgrade. Not that you need it, since the game is exceptionally easy, but still.

    The areas are boring, exploration only usually nets you some extra rings you don't need, the puzzles are dull, revolving around pressing obvious buttons or pulling something, and the 'speed' segments, the only time Sonic actually goes fast, make me sick thanks to the camera angles and framerate.

    There's so much more. Like how co-op makes the game look and run even worse, making it nearly unplayable. How there's many glitches and bugs, like clipping through the world or A.I. partners continuously jumping, preventing you from switching characters. This game is bad in every regard, and I don't want to hear about bounce pads ever again.    … Expand

    This game reaches a new level of bad video games.
    This game is just terrible and a humiliation to the entire franchise. I give this game atleast a 1/10 because it made me laugh at how bad it was! The game is full of glitches, pointless storyline, boring level design, and that on a moment that the WiiU is finally getting the best games.
    Don't buy this game or if you've bought it, return it!
