    Well, I wanted this to be a good game, but unfortunately it Isn't.

    Sega's newest attempt at the blue blur fell remarkably short of most expectations. It's scattered with many bugs. While not gamebreaking bugs as some have described, many require you to restart the level. The game lags out at several points as well. It's graphics are a huge disappointment. While some levels, such as    Well, I wanted this to be a good game, but unfortunately it Isn't.

    It's graphics are a huge disappointment. While some levels, such as Lyrics base, look nice at parts, other parts are downright ugly. At points it really does look like a PS2 game. On a system like the Wii U this is simply unnacceptable. In addition, after three years in development one would expect consistent graphics, but alas, no.

    The gameplay is generally repetitive and I became bored within the first few levels. The difficulty is minimal, and while more enemies began appearing near the end, they are easily dispatched.

    Music has been one of the consistent bright spots of the Sonic franchise, but unfortunately Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric bucks this trend. The music is unfitting at points and generally forgettable.

    The major bright spot is story. The games story is far more advanced then the last four Sonic games combined. It does have a generic villain and stereotypical (and pointless) characters, which takes away from the enjoyment.

    In an effort to appeal to new fans Sega has completely alienated it's original fan base. The game is not good enough to draw in many kids; nor Sonic enough to draw in the dedicated fan base.     This game from the get-go has frame rate issues and many bugs. It's clear that the game is unpolished. The gamers combat is also very clunky the the animations aren't smooth. The platforming is decent but not good. There's a big open town for you to explore but only about 8 NPC in the game. When you explore the town you find rings but you can only hold 100. If you perform an SSS comboThis game from the get-go has frame rate issues and many bugs. It's clear that the game is unpolished. The gamers combat is also very clunky the the animations aren't smooth. The platforming is decent but not good. There's a big open town for you to explore but only about 8 NPC in the game. When you explore the town you find rings but you can only hold 100. If you perform an SSS combo there is no reward for getting the high combo. The story is also bad, the only good about it is the little humor it brings to the table. Another positive is the length of the game, it's above average but for me it felt like a chore.     This game is an abomination. I refuse to accept this as a Sonic game, this just doesn't feel fat or fun. I guess if you wanted to play Sonic '06 with a new skin you could buy this game, but I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. This game poorly designed with terrible textures and glitches. Avoid this game at all costs.

    Some fresh new ideas..but nothing special who could keep Sonic alive.

    The graphics are sub-par, even bad. The music sucks - it's stuck in this ambient, cinematic mood and never stands out, ever. The gameplay is repetitive and the puzzles    Sonic Boom: Rise Of Lyrics is unpolished - and even worse, flat out boring. Like, super boring. I tried to find something positive, I really tried. Trust me! But nothing about this game stands out - in a good way that is.

The gameplay is repetitive and the puzzles are dumb - you have slow button-mashing fights, then there's a bad puzzle, then a scripted speed section which will most likely glitch out. Rinse and repeat. The characters, oh man, they're annoying. They never shut up. The writing is an atrocity, with constant references to internet memes from 2010.

    The only things I really liked were Amy's new personality, she's no longer incomprehensibly annoying, and Metal Sonic. He's always a nice villain.    … Expand

    Whoever decided that a Sonic not going fast is a good idea should leave, wherever they are right now.
    The writing is awful to say the least. It's full of bugs and glitches and you don't even have to try finding them. The game doesn't even look good. And while looking bad and going slowly through walls    This game tries really hard to dethrone Sonic 06 as the worst Sonic game ever made.

    I'm speed running the game and I'm so glad I'm just borrowing. The framerate is pretty bad but it doesn't effect response time not that the game requires much. Haven't tried multiplayer yet but I'd imagine teleporting all over the place due to dumbness. This game isn't the worst but considering the price it's now officially bad. Barging bin purchase this game if you're interested.

    -Graphics that are lazily done, on the Crysis 3 engine no less
    -the combat isn't as enjoyable as one would expect, it's different, but not satisfactory -the humor is really degrading, especially poor knuckles, a character I respected in sonic adventure, sa2 and sonic    This game had some hopes from me, I was expecting something different yet interesting. Instead, here's what I've found:

    -the humor is really degrading, especially poor knuckles, a character I respected in sonic adventure, sa2 and sonic heroes
    -BUTTLOADS of glitches that SHOULD have been watched for, its like an early beta or late alpha build.

    As a comparison, I'd have to state this is a lot like a bad spin off of The Legend of Spyro trilogy or the Spongebob Squarepants Movie (video game). The story, character model design, and voice acting isn't horrible, but the slowpaced action and horrible humor isn't something I was looking forward to. Three years of building, yet loads of bugs and graphics that could have been reworked before release if BRB had the common sense to actually do proper testing.    … Expand

    The only bad thing about Sonic Boom is that the game is terrible in every way.

    But this game is just really bad, It just feels really rushed like it's still an Alpha build.

    This is the worst game of all time. EVER!! It runs like an old lady with 3 hip replacements, and shouldn't ever be experienced by any human ever. Some say Sonic 06' is the worst, they haven't even played a fraction of this nightmarish experience.

    Let me just put this to rest, Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric is not very good. It's horrible, it's quite possibly one of the worst Wii U games i've ever played. It had so much potential, when I saw a trailer for this game on TV, I thought it was going to be decent, but I thought very VERY wrong. The gameplay is boring, it's glitchy as hell, it runs like hell, it doesn't even look good! The gameLet me just put this to rest, Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric is not very good. It's horrible, it's quite possibly one of the worst Wii U games i've ever played. It had so much potential, when I saw a trailer for this game on TV, I thought it was going to be decent, but I thought very VERY wrong. The gameplay is boring, it's glitchy as hell, it runs like hell, it doesn't even look good! The game is somewhat funny, but it just makes the characters look like complete idiots. And don't even get me started on the character designs; I know the game was made alongside a different company, but still, whoever thought thought it would be a good idea to give Knuckles steroids needs to be fired. All jokes aside, this game is horrible, and to be honest, I found more enjoyment out of Sonic 06 than this. If you see this game at any game store, don't buy it, if you're a hardcore Sonic fan, then be my guest.

    I was afraid to try this game, and i ignored my fears. I regretted it.

    Although, i gave it a 3 because i enjoyed the cut scenes and it actually pushed me on to watch the Animated series they made, which is pretty good... but like the cutscenes, in my opinion.

Level design is repetitive and so ar combat segments, Glitches plague the game perhaps not as frequently as 06, but affecting it far more obviously and destructively. This is obviously a game that BRB had little to no interest in making, and the final product shows that. While there are some highlights in the fact that most of the game is at least playable and that controls are generally decent and responsive, the negatives surely outweigh them. However, there are unintentional highlights in how hilarious the glitches often make the game, so there is more enjoyability to be had from the game than intended. As a sonic game, and as a game overall, Sonic Boom gets a 4/10 - if you must have it, wait for the price to go sub-$20 - it won't take long.    … Expand

    Em geral esse jogo foi lançado só pra divulgar a série de tv, mas poxa vida, depois de sonic colors, sonic generations e sonic lost world tem que lançar um jogo tão ruim?!

    The fact that the graphics are as outdated as if it was a game for the PS2, but it still has severe frame rate issues is abysmal. In multiplayer, the levle of detail is lowered and the the lighting is non-existent, but the frame rate is even worse.

    Finally, the music. The Sonic series is known for (no matter how bad a game) almost always having some rememberable soundtrack. However, this doesn't have a single soundtrack that is worth remembering. Also the music is quite often out of place.    … Expand

    When I played Sonic Lost World, although there were many problems in my opinion, there were at least redeeming qualities. This game doesn't have any redeeming qualities.

    It's less that the game is broken, and more that it's simply not fun to play. Having Sonic move slow is fine, as long as the platforming works well, but having him go the same speed as everyone else is outrageous.    When I played Sonic Lost World, although there were many problems in my opinion, there were at least redeeming qualities. This game doesn't have any redeeming qualities.

    It's less that the game is broken, and more that it's simply not fun to play. Having Sonic move slow is fine, as long as the platforming works well, but having him go the same speed as everyone else is outrageous. The gameplay is dull, except for the short, short high speed segments. The banter is annoying, and the world created is relatively generic.

    This is the opposite of what Sonic should be. If you like the opposite of Sonic, you might have some fun, but otherwise, steer clear.    … Expand

You must go read the reviews from the critics on Youtube or other websites like that. The gameplay is awful, eye rolling humor, and more glitches than you can count. The controls are horribly clunky as is the camera. The characters, Sonic, Amy, Knuckles and Tails are quite simply annoying and tired some. The graphics are rather poor and could be done better. Overall the game feels like it isSonic Boom is easily one of the worst games of 2014. The main plot is generic (as to be expected with sonic games), puzzles are often repetitive and over-used.     It saddens me to say this.... But this game is unfinished garbage... It could've been something good... but its not.... Its sonic team's last exclusive nintendo game so yeah i guess I could see why they would suck at it especially considering most of sega was working on Alien Isolation.... but still this is their mascot.... Its a    Look.... I love sonic the hedgehog....

    As an adult I am realizing one of my favorite guys who convinced me to get a sega genesis is dead or just a washed up loser by his own job that screwed him over.

    Please Sega just give him to Nintendo... I'm sure Mr. Iwata would be generous to label him as "sega's" sonic the hedgehog.

    Anyways... Look... If you want an unfinished game that doesn't work then I would say just get an Xbone because atleast they'll work better after patches... However if you want a sonic game then you might as well dig up your genesis and get all 7 emeralds and beat dr. robotnik because this wont do it and will disappoint you I promise.

    Shame on you sega....

The game is buggy, dialogs are horrible, combat is boring, the world is uninspired, and they even bragged about the game using cryengine but the game still looks like crap. Seriously, I can't even believe nintendo or segaIf you can complete the whole game in an hour using a glitch that's when you know that the game is bad. Sonic boom is one of worst sonic games I've played in a while. The game is buggy, dialogs are horrible, combat is boring, the world is uninspired, and they even bragged about the game using cryengine but the game still looks like crap. Seriously, I can't even believe nintendo or sega allowed this game to be released this month because the game really needs another 6-12 months worth of work.     Adding on to my other review (I hoped this game was going to be good, but it was not. The freaking combat in unleashed is WAY BETTER than this combat, where you can only get like a 2 hit combo... Also a slow sonic game?? Gimme a break...)

    I don't think this game is all terrible, I admit at times it was kinda fun to play, but in the end there is just too much bad there. Firstly it is rather broken game with some frame rate issues, Secondly It is also easy game that also gets a bit dull as there is lack of interesting challenge and it feels very dumbed down game TBH -.-... I feel they had actually good ideas here though, just that what we in the end got here wasn't those ideas implemented in game in some awesome way. Rather we got complete train wreck that will be laughed at as one of the worst games made in 2014. Even dialogue is full of unintentional comedy as jokes are so damn bad...     I will give this game a starting point of "2 out of 10" because I like the characterization when their lines weren't being repeated over and over.     This game is severely unpolished. I feel regret that I bought this and beat it in a day. I wasn't mad that I beat the game: I was actually satisfied but upon reflecting on the game I had been playing....I just didn't have a reason or wish to go back to it.

    So I traded it in to GameStop towards Super Smash Bros Wii U: something I recommend everyone do if they made the mistake of buying this.

    If not and you're reading these user reviews: PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS GAME. WATCH THE CARTOON INSTEAD. The cartoon actually has some talent behind it who have been working in the field and know their limits.

    Honestly, there's nothing I can say that can't be said. There is no speed, fighting is a chore, the characters are one-sided and the game is a glitchy mess far more than Sonic 06 ever was.

    A zero is the only thing this will ever deserve. Thanks for nothing, Sega.

    I've clocked 7 hours playing the game, and somewhere along the line, I realized that this game *couldn't* have ever been good, unlike Sonic '06, which was at least a thumbs-down Sonic Adventure rehash. The idea behind this is like the spiritual successor to Sonic Heroes, but without any of that game's nostalgic charm or so-bad-it's-good cheesy dialogue.

    If you want a game to satisfy the little ones for a few hours, here's some shovelware for ya. It'll be selling for $4.99 in no time anyway, so don't buy it now.    … Expand

    I cannot believe how Nintendo could allow such a tragedy on store shelves. Sonic, Tails, Amy, and Knuckles are forgetful and the story line is just crap (not to mention Knuckles looks like a inflated scrotum). There is no denying it, Sanic the hudgeheg is dead.

    This game is just terrible and a humiliation to the entire franchise. I give this game atleast a 1/10 because it made me laugh at how bad it was! The game is full of glitches, pointless storyline, boring level design, and that on a moment that the WiiU is finally getting the best games.
    Don't buy this game or if you've bought it, return it!

And don't tell me it's because that it's on the Wii-U: Bayonetta 2 came out just a bit before Sonic Boom, and that game looks amazing. Lighting effects are weak, and the framerate just dies on a consistent basis. In theory, the game runs at 30 FPS. In practice, it rarely, if ever, reaches that. Often did gameplay feel sluggish and painful due to the 15-10 FPS I usually got.

    The music is completely forgettable. All of them consist of generic orchestral tracks that will leave your memory shortly after they stop playing. Not that you can hear them over the obnoxious, non-stop chatter between mutated, bandaged Sonic and all of his mutated, bandaged friends. They will constantly act surprised when they encounter things such as bounce pads, even after they used them dozens of times. They are more than happy to gloat about how much they love rings. They will never fail to point out that a particular enemy is doing a particular thing. It gets annoying, and fast.

    What makes it worse is that the voice acting is pretty awful. A lot of the lines don't seem to have any energy or emotion put into them, the jokes and one-liners end up falling flat, even to the most minor of audiences ("Dino-might!" will never, ever, be a good pun), and you'll be begging to turn off the voices soon enough.

    As for the game itself, Sonic and company were chasing Eggman down a road, get ambushed by robots including Metal Sonic (Oddly enough, Metal Sonic is still rocking his Sonic CD look), and were forced to flee into a ruin that only Sonic could open. After this, they accidentally free Lyric from a prison, and he's off to destroy the world for reasons. The game tries to mix 3D platforming, 3D character action, and 2D platforming gameplay in one package. Did they get even one of them right? Absolutely not.

    First, the 3D character action. This is no Platinum game, let me tell you that much. You have a light attack, heavy attack, and a special attack. The movesets for all the characters are very limited, and you'll likely just end up spamming light and heavy attacks to beat the very durable enemies. Note that I said they were durable, and not hard. Even the most basic enemies take ages to defeat seemingly for no reason other than to pad out the game.

    You can switch characters at any time, and they do have their own attacks and gimmicks: Sonic can spin dash, Tails can glide, Knuckles can wall climb (He will tell you multiple times that it's the only way to travel, and even now I don't know what he means by this), and Amy can triple jump. They don't seem to have any speed or power differences, so use whoever you want. You can switch anytime you want...in theory.

    All characters also receive a grapple beam, which can be used to pull enemies and objects, or hang on to wires. There's no real neat gimmick that takes advantage of this, and I often found myself using it only when I needed to progress.

    The game has a hub world where you can accept side quests, find out what you're doing next, and travel to the different areas. I don't know why, because the last couple times Sonic games had a hub, it didn't work out all that well. This one is easily the worst out of all of them, because it's just a barren wasteland. It's easy to become lost and disoriented when everything looks the same. I, as a grown adult, got lost a few too many times, and this is being sold as a kid's game. Imagine how kids will do. You get a map, but only after you put a decent amount of time in the game.

    Doing side quests will net you upgrades. All of them are pretty awful, save for one: Money Bags. Money Bags increases the max amount of rings you can carry, and rings count as your health. As such, Money Bags is a health upgrade. Standard stuff, right? Except this health upgrade requires you to link the 3DS Sonic Boom game to your Wii-U. At least a $40 paywall. For a health upgrade. Not that you need it, since the game is exceptionally easy, but still.

    The areas are boring, exploration only usually nets you some extra rings you don't need, the puzzles are dull, revolving around pressing obvious buttons or pulling something, and the 'speed' segments, the only time Sonic actually goes fast, make me sick thanks to the camera angles and framerate.

    There's so much more. Like how co-op makes the game look and run even worse, making it nearly unplayable. How there's many glitches and bugs, like clipping through the world or A.I. partners continuously jumping, preventing you from switching characters. This game is bad in every regard, and I don't want to hear about bounce pads ever again.    … Expand

    This is a glitch that occasionally breaks out into a game. The only reason it deserves a point is because it's hilarious to watch for the first 10 minutes, then it becomes painful. I wouldn't give this game to Adolph Hitler because that would violate the rules of the Geneva Convention.

    This is what really needs to be remembered: Boom isn't bad because it's terrible, Boom is bad because it has no soul. This game was shat out as fast as possible with no soul or any kind of creativity or love. Nothing in it has identity, is daring or specifically Sonic, it's just a stock, boring platformer with nothing for itself where the brand Sonic was put on the cover.

    For the love of god, SEGA, if you want to make a Sonic spinoff, which is already stupid since after Generations was great you made Lost World which was already stock, mostly soulless and generally boring, but if you want to make a spinoff while you're already trying to secure a market for your main series, AT LEAST DONT SHOVE THE GAME IN THE HANDS OF SOME DEV WHO CLEARLY COULDNT CARE LESS AND JUST WANTED TO GET IT OVER WITH.

    Another **** on Sonic's legacy, it'll live through it, but for god's sake I really hope SEGA management all commit sudoku, because this game is a disgrace to the fans, a disgrace to kids who might buy it, and a disgrace to Sonic.

    I always tried to be forgiving with Sonic because underneath the ocean of terrible concepts or ideas there was always something of value. With the incredibly repetitive writing, constant glitches, an awful story, and bad graphics, Sonic Boom may very well be Satan himself.     I guess you could say that Sonic Team starting doing their crystal meth again and forgot what a Sonic was. And by crystal meth, I mean that Sonic Team must have thought there were bugs all over the game and tried to pick them off. Thus the game has so many scars and cuts because of that.

    Do not buy this game, even if you think its a kid's game that people treat too harshly. It has tons of glitches, slow pace and the speed parts are laggy. The graphics are bad and even worse if you want to play 2 player. The only good part is to be able to use 4 different characters. For your own sake, do not buy this game.

    The controls are broken have too many button sharing issues. 'A' is used for too many things for example. Movements feel strange and unnatural half the time. Also, the camera tends to act weird and even stop moving with the characters for example.

    The story is very bland and the writing is embarrassingly bad. The "humor" is almost dehumanizing. SEGA really needs to stop making their games so awkward. You can really awesome characters that are funny and witty too, it's definitely possible, just don't make them the way SEGA does. Easy as that.

    No signs of any care from the developers, they didn't even TRY polishing the game. 3 years in development? More like 3 years of slackin' off eating greasy burgers and talking about how much money their wallets can carry.

    Fun Fact: When this game first came out, the officials didn't even allow any reviews of the game to be out for a while, just to reel in as much money as possible. That's... just, pathetic.

    Hey, what's more funny?: The fact that this game is about as broken as the infamous Sonic '06 or that a group of people thought this was a complete, playable, and fun game for the world to enjoy?

He went from an arrogant wanna-be superior to Sonic to a non-brained buff dummy. I'm actually serious. Good traits, but not memorable. The frame rate doesn't even come close to 30. It constantly drops especially in Multiplayer. And the graphics aren't even good. Yes, a Wii U system, which is suppose to have NEXT GEN GRAPHICS has terrible graphics in this game. It makes the Wii U look like a PS2 graphics wise.

    Now if you thought THAT was bad, wait until you see the gameplay. It isn't even based off of speed like in other Sonic titles. Even though it has speed sections, the frame rate still gets in the way. Not only that, there is also a COMBAT and PUZZLE function in the game, which are uninspired and bland. The combat has no combos whatsoever, the puzzles are are easy, and there is no challenge. There is no penalty when you die and your ring count is maxed out to 100 rings. And you lose a few rings every hit instead of loosing all of them. So rings are just health replenishers in this game. You can increase it, but you must link this game to Sonic boom: Shattered Crystal a $40 GAME to increase it.

    For my verdict, it's possibly the worst Sonic game of all time. The TV Show spin off is good, but definitely not this waste of $50. I got my copy off of the eShop, but there is a reason it only sold 400k+ copies. Because it sucks. And will always.

    You're probably thinking I think Sonic will or needs to die all because of this game. Well, I don't. But SEGA may be forced to do just that or go bankrupt if they keep this crap up. All of the bankruptcy threats or loosing money from SEGA I all blame on this game. SEGA, just make an Adventure 3. You really have no option. And if you don't, have fun going bankrupt.    … Expand

    I was going to get this game until I heard bad reviews so I give this game 3/10 because of it's glitches even worse than Sonic 06 the game itself is worse than Sonic 06. Horrible sega. Hopefully Fire and Ice is better than this.

    Don't get me wrong, this game IS arse, but it is better than Sonic 06. I just think this is better than 06 because the storyline isn't like 06's. I do hate the redesigns though, especially Knuckles', because he was my favourite character.

    And SEGA, DO NOT screw up the next Sonic game.

    This is by far my least favourite Sonic game. This is even worse than Sonic 06 and Sonic Free Riders because the combat is atrocious and the most Sonic-like level suffer from glitches the most.

    If you want a better Sonic game for the Wii U, please get Sonic: Lost World instead.

    Due to the cartoon coming out soon, the use of an engine that is not supported by the crap U and having to rush out the game made it the most unfinished, unpolished Sonic game ever.     This was awful. A complete disservice to fans of Sonic. The game breaking bugs are compounded by the fact that Wii U does little to no patches. This should have been a return to the Genesis days of glory but instead we have just another terrible Sonic game. Fans of Sonic avoid. Everyone avoid.

    I played the demo out of curiosity, and had to put it down after 5 or so minutes because it was so awful, the controls are horrible, the combat is clunky, the frame rate is horrible, and the voice acting is worse than all of these thinks combined, on the plus side the music, while it's not good, doesn't make me want to kill myself.

    Considering the game supposed to have a plot with development in it, I've dropped by original score of 5 to a 3 because it is completely lacking in any character development or personality. None of the four main characters have any internal OR external conflict with the plot of the game, and in no way are they relatable.

    The animations aren't bad, but they're not good by any means.

    There are glitches aplenty, not to say that no game is without glitches, but when a game is oozing with almost game breaking glitches every few seconds, there is a definite problem.

    The game often feels like its trying to be too many things at once - a platformer, a beat em up, a block puzzle, even an RPG. At certain parts it feels like they're changing between different kinds of camera controllers and player controllers to completely mix up the experience the player is receiving. There are some games that effectively do something like this, there are even some games that can effectively mix together a bunch of genres seamlessly - but this game is no where near being that.

    The art, style, and models are the only thing this game has going for it.

    What do you think of when someone brings up a Sonic game? The gameplay? Not here! The story? Why would you ask about the story? At least the music... No they screwed that up too. Glitches? Sorry they patched those... If you need a Sonic game on Wii u, pick up Sonic Lost World. Sonic Lost World isn't great but still more fun than this.

    There have been a lot of bad Sonic games over the years but Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric has to be near the top (or bottom? ) of that list. There is hardly anything redeeming about the game. Wii U owners looking for a Sonic fix would be better served by "Lost World" or just going back to the Wii's "Sonic Colors". Honestly, there is no reason to play this.

I at least got some enjoyment from Sonic 06. Sonic Boom? No. The music is generic, the levels are generic, the game play is generic, it's all just so generic. And don't get me started on the cardboard cutout characters. Sonic isn't too bad (just generic Sonic with no personality), but Tails is a stereotypical nerd, knuckles is a stereotypical dumb brute, and Amy is the stereotypical girl. Then there's Lyric. He is the most boring, generic antagonist I have ever seen. He has no personality whatsoever. If you want a better Sonic game that actually feels like a Sonic game, I highly recommend Sonic Generations or Sonic Colors. This game isn't worth your time or money. They are mostly new accounts that have only signed up to rate this game and the other sonic boom release. Very fishy, it seems a lot of places are doing this when their game flops? Naughty.

    This game is terrible!!!!!!!! It's slower than sonic labyrinth, the combat is monotonous and repetitive, and I got stuck less than a third into the game thanks to terrible level design!!! I regret buying this...

    Simply put, Sonic Boom is one of the worst Sonic games in recent memory: the concept is bland, the design is awful and the execution is incredibly poor.

    Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric is a real disappointment for Sonic fans. There is basically nothing positive to say about this game. Sonic deserves much better.
