This game is not worth the $60 price point either, while you may argue "Oh it comes with two amiibos!" you cannot advance past the start screen without an Animal Crossing Amiibo, locking you out of the game unless you own one. It feels as if Nintendo dragged a very prominent series through the mud just for the sake of selling Amiibos. Expand

The problem is that the game is entirely luck-based. Literally. There is practically no skill required whatsoever. So much so, in fact, that I considered playing it with my 2-year-old cousin. That's the main mode, anyway.

Here's what saved me from giving this game a 2: For one, just the general charm of the Animal Crossing theme. I won't deny the game was nice visually for what it was, and it was slightly entertaining to see the journals of the characters as they land on each space.

Second, the minigames. One in particular actually requires strategy during play and during teambuilding, and I actually enjoy playing it. The problem is that it's a minigame; the main mode of the game itself I found dreadfully boring.

Overall, I unfortunately cannot recommend this game unless you have small children. Even then, beware: The very first game, there is absolutely nothing to do. You'll have to play a few times before you get the good stuff.

Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival is a spin-off party game of the Animal Crossing series that in no right deserves to be a standalone game.
The game has you control your character's movements by tapping one of several compatible amiibo - in fact, to play co-op each player must have a different amiibo and half of the game is locked unless you can buy the amiibo to unlock it.

The fact that even the dice is controlled via amiibo diminishes the small amount of interactivity the game does have, with the only good thing being the graphics. Apart from that, Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival is just a mockery of a fun, co-operative party game, instead just being a vain attempt to market merchandise.
I don't believe it's the amiibo that ruins the game, as Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer for the 3DS utilises them perfectly. What makes the game a failure is it's lack of interactivity or fun, and the fact it's a game retailed at full price is ridiculous. In my opinion, it should just be a side feature/minigame in a proper Animal Crossing game, and even then it would need some major improvements.

But it’s critically disappointing from one of the most critically acclaimed franchises from Nintendo, who have recently caved into more and more marketing gimmicks formerly exploited only by its competitors through third party co-developers, with Pokémon Shuffle and more coming to mind.

If you were expecting amiibo Festival to be somewhat similar to the overall reaction to Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer on the Nintendo 3DS, prepare to be miserable. At least HHD incorporated addictive, even enjoyable qualities that made me want to continue playing for a couple of days. But amiibo Festivals to deliver “fun” by any definition. The mini-games aren’t very challenging and the visual board game design is poorly executed, making for a boring, dull experience. Even the Amiibo feature doesn’t function as well as it’s supposed to, becoming an annoyance during certain mini-games.

The only majorly redeeming qualities aren’t gameplay related—it’s certainly charming, especially during the non-playable sequences. Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival could have been an add-on to 2013’s New Leaf or maybe even an upcoming main series console game; however, I couldn’t imagine paying for amiibo Festival as DLC either and would only download it for free if it were essential to completing a task. It’s only moderately more entertaining if you have a friend playing with you and even then, just play Mario Party. I couldn’t bring myself to call this a “terrible” game, it’s simply short of being pleasurable to any extent, only designed to cash in on an Amiibo feature many of us only used to decorate our shelves.

The first two games you play do not feature any minigames (unless you count turnip selling) and the game does not inform you that these features even exist until you finish that second game. Overall the gameplay is quite dull - I found myself playing on my phone for most of the time because there was nothing to look at - I didn't have to be worried about where other players were because there is barely any competition to the game and it is very hands off - all you do is tap your amiibo figure to take your turn and occasionally buy and sell turnips. I came in expecting it to be similar to Mario Party where there was a minigame after each round of turns. Instead it was an endless moving around of the board with very little choice, interaction, or even consequences.
The other Animal Crossing games offer so much and I was hoping we would see some of these great things integrated into the game. Instead minigames must be unlocked after they're finally revealed to you. So far it seems like customization is really limited for the 8 preset human players for those who do not play with an amiibo figure. The series features a large amount of music - which is quite absent from this game that has a limited and disappointing soundtrack.
On the bright side the game is cute and the amiibos are adorable. I dislike Wii controllers so at first I was happy to discover you only needed the gamepad - but then I realized it was because there were no minigames or other activities that required you to all play at the same time.

It has integration with Happy Home Designer and Amiibo cards. You can use the amiibo cards to bring new characters into the game and customize your game board.

The Amiibos are cute and well made. I would have bought them even without a game to go with it.

This is really a game you have to try for yourself. Most people had their mind made up about the game before even playing it so don't listen to the bad reviews. You have to play the board game a few times to unlock all the features so a lot of reviewers haven't really played the full game.

Think about the kinds of games you play on the Island and about hide and seek.... etc. Anything Mario Party about them? Not really. OF COURSE this isn't like Mario Party!!

Festival is simple, laid back. Like everything about Animal Crossing, it is about taking time to enjoy things. You know, like the way AC has always punished people for running around (like Mario and Luigi no doubt would?) Customizing our gameboard village with Amiibo card villagers was really satisfying for my family as we each took turns choosing which villager to invite.

Each pack of Amiibo cards is an event for my family as we see familiar faces from our current or previous villages. My son cheered when he saw Bella in our most recent pack. One of his faves from our City Folk village. She was his card choice to invite to live in the gameboard village naturally.

The gameplay in the boardgame is pretty basic, but can be a hoot with 4 players who love AC and have some history together. My family has enjoyed every game so far and had some great laughs along the way. As far as the mini-games go, my son and I greatly enjoy the Island escape mini-game and the Balloon game in particular.

I feel that it is a worthy product in the AC universe and worth every penny I've spent on it. and will spend on it in the future.

    2) They think it's a Mario Party rip-off (it really isn't)
    3) It's a "cheap" way to sell amiibo
While some of this reasons are believed to be true, you really have to play the game and be aware of what the game's intent is. This game is not supposed to be a main-line animal crossing game, it's meant to be a virtual board game that you can play at parties with your friends. It serves exactly what any other Animal Crossing game delivers, very cute and quirky story telling, with amazing personification of characters. The board game itself takes about 40 minutes to an hour to complete. The board game can hit a few low points like most board games tend to hit, but for the majority of time, me and my cousin who were playing had a wonderful time. We enjoyed reading the stories of each space on the board we landed on, we enjoyed all of the twists that were thrown into the mix, we enjoyed many great qualities of the game. The only thing that concerned me at first was the luck based nature of the game, which most board games do have, by the way. Yes this game does not require the same skill a mario party game does, which is a secret blessing in disguise. This is a game that is very relaxing to play with family & friends, it's not a very skillful competitive game with intense do-or-die mini games; it's a very relaxed game with cute characters with huge personalities and a fun scenery to explore throughout the game, and I think nintendo pulled this off very well.

Regarding the use of amiibo in this game without spoiling, I think Nintendo did a phenomenal job implementing them into the game. The game requires you to have an amiibo to play, but they include 2 amiibo with the game, which is a win-win. The minigames are RIDICULOUSLY fun to play, and they also use amiibo and the amiibo cards in a great way.

Overall, I feel like nintendo did exactly what they wanted to do with this game. Provide a fun Animal Crossing spin off, using the new Amiibo figures. This game is not a Bayonetta or a Pikmin 3 with a huge story and plot, it's just a fun game you can start at a party or when you have friends or family over.

I gave "Animal Crosing: amiibo Festival" an 8 out of 10. I recommend the game to any Animal Crossing lover, don't buy into the harsh critics.

Apenas estoy descubriendolo ahora.

Basically this one review I found describes it perfectly: Before you buy Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival, grab a dice and roll it. If it lands on an even number, you win. If it lands on an odd number, you lose.
If you had fun and enjoyment out of that, Amiibo Festival may then be for you. If not, you should look elsewhere.
So in conclusion don't buy the game. Even the most die hard Animal Crossing Fans will just feel insulted. I sold the game for a quarter of the price labeled do not buy this.

This made me think of My Sims Party.. It isn't anything alike of Animal Crossing and the cost of the game plus all the characters are way too expensive for what you get (in my opinion)..
It isn't that great, although it might be fun to play when you have people coming over and want some quality time.

Cmon, Nintendo, don't let Animal Crossing die.
Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival is adorable! But that's all this game really has, it's a complete bore to play. It's a party game, but with all the fun sucked out of it. It has charm and personality, but other than that, it's just not fun. You move around the board/town to gain Happy Points, and while there are some cute events that go on, there really isn't any incentive to paying attention to the computer doing anything, as there is hardly any spaces that hinder your opponents. The minigames themselves aren't entertaining, making it more of an obligation than a game. The worst part about it is that it's required to have an Amiibo to play; even though the game comes with Amiibo cards, the "full experience" requires you to buy the Amiibos. Nintendo, let me make this clear: I don't want your toys.
Overall, this game is painfully average, it has the charm and cute look to it, but that's all this game really has going for it. It's not a terrible game, not one of the worst Wii U games out there, but it's not a game I would hugely recommend.

Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival gets a 5/10.

It's not a mini-game based party game like Mario Party 1-10 or Advanced DS or island tour. It's a stress free game no fights over who got the most points from the mini-game you just tap the amiibo on the NFC reader and your character goes from 1 space to another and you either gain happy points or bells or lose happy points or bells. The game is simple so a lot of the younger folks older folks or people not into video games can play this game easily without having to read the instructions. Besides the day to day, the game also has holidays, catching tournaments, special character events, and most importantly turnip sales. You can buy turnips on sunday for a set price, and you can sell them at any point during the week. The price can fluctuate, so a lot of the drive of the game is seing how much of a return you can get on them. The gameplay is decently simple, and there are a lot more ways to help your fellow players than to hurt them. This is a perfect game for any Animal Crossing fan, as it shows off the lives of many favorite characters and has a very cute and feel-good vibe, even if you are losing. However, if you aren't into Animal Crossing, you probably won't get much out of the game. Expand

Don't expect anything great from it." So, I didn't buy it. Instead, I opted to try it. And I'm thankful he scared me, because I am actually pleasantly surprised with this game.

With the main board game, there are no minigames. You just play this light-hearted, calming board game. It would be excruciatingly boring though, if you weren't playing with friends. When you play with friends though, it's a blast. It kind of gives me a Game of Life feeling, because you collect "happy points" which are similar to "life tiles" and you collect bells which can turn into happy points at the end of the game, which is similar to "retiring" in the game. This game makes collecting the amiibos and amiibo cards really fun. So if you don't collect the Animal Crossing amiibo or the amiibo cards, you probably won't get a very good time out of this game. I personally think it's exceedingly better than any Mario Party that has come out in the last 3-4 years. If you're looking for a carefree, lighthearted and fun game that's better than the trash Mario Party has produced these last few years (Mario Party 8-10, looking at you *cough*) and you enjoy amiibos, GET THIS. It's so much fun. But don't expect too much. Definitely not as good as a classic Mario Party, but far exceeds the newest additions.

The minigames are to be played outside of the board game portion, but playing the board game with friends or solo unlocks tickets to unlock minigames in the plaza. Amiibo cards are required to play all of the minigames, so if you collected them from the Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, here's a chance to get even more functionality and fun out of your amiibo cards. I was addicted to the tent one, I played it for probably an hour straight. Just some mindless, calming fun. The minigames are better than anything I've played in a multiplayer game on the Wii in a long time, just my personal opinion.

I will be buying this game when I get paid next. I personally think $60 isn't a bad price tag, only because it comes with two amiibos to start and three amiibo cards. Without those, I wouldn't pay more than $40 for this.

But all in all, if you're open-minded and looking for some light-hearted, traditional board game fun with your friends and you enjoy amiibo, pick this up and give it a try. If you don't care for collecting Animal Crossing amiibo, then don't get this. This game, being called "Amiibo Festival" is heavily centered around the AC amiibo, so if you don't care to invest in them, don't get this.

It's a fine game, but it's relatively easy. If your looking for a party game on the Wii U, this is probably the one to buy over Mario Party 10. The rules are simple enough. You and up to three friends compete to collect the most happy points and bells by landing on event spaces that will either increase or decrease your totals of both. It's not a very exciting process as all you're really doing is rolling the dice and reading a little mini-story about something your character did, rather than actually getting to do anything yourself. Occasionally, a familiar face from the series will show up and add new scenarios that only last for a single turn, but this ultimately doesn't do much to liven up the gameplay as they just amount to more text to scroll through.

To make matters worse, physically playing it is an awkward experience. For whatever reason the entire thing uses only one controller. Which means you either pass the GamePad around every turn or let a single person hold onto it and roll for everybody, effectively limiting the amount of interactivity the rest will have with the game even further. Then there are the Amiibo themselves, which ARE essential as you can't even make it past the start screen without one. Instead of being able to push a button you're forced to scan the figurines each round in order to move and it's incredibly clunky.

It's also worth noting that if you don't have enough of the toys to go around, there are generic in-game avatars that can be used. However, the player(s) stuck with one are at a severe disadvantage as those who get an Amiibo are awarded a bonus happy point each time the dice is rolled. So if you want to keep your sessions fair you'll have to invest in a full set of four.

There are mini-games, but they're weirdly detatched from the main mode. They also require you to have Animal Crossing Amiibo cards (a separate thing from the figures), which add new characters to the world and play an integral role in controlling these side-diversions. Essentially making them even more mechanically frustrating than the core offering is. It's their cheap, disposable nature that's the real issue though. I simply have no interest in touching them again after trying them out once.

Amiibo Festival is a dull, poorly designed cashgrab built around selling you outside accessories. I did enjoy things like the "stalk market" that sees you buying and reselling turnips against rapidly fluctuating prices before they expire, as it's the only part of the game that allows for any sort of strategy. I could even see myself returning for the grind of unlocking new features, such as the option to build new paths on the board. Still, I would be very leery of breaking this out at any sort of get together where I wasn't 100% positive everyone there enjoyed it, lest I run the risk of boring them. Which is about as bad as it can get for a party game.

The main aspect could be made fun, but it just feels like they only put a couple halfhearted lines of text for each event, which repeat several times through just one game. the event days are scarce, and the only point is to get the most bells, happy points, and get those lloid stamps. the game repeats itself and adding amiibo to this doesn't help the cause much, because those don't add anything to the game either really... so I give it a generous but still not up to standards 5/10 Expand

Doesn't mean it's a decent game though. I'm still unsure if this was just a cash-grab or not, but I'm pretty sure it was. I absolutely love the amiibo figures that you can buy, but the fact you have to keep picking them up feels... unnecessary? To just roll a dice? There's also no minigames on the boards, and the 3 minigames you can play aren't Mario Party level or anything. They're cute though. The game also seems to go on for a long, long time.

I don't know, if you're looking for an Animal Crossing spinoff game, just buy Happy Homes Designer. At least you don't need an amiibo to play the game there. Like I said, it's not the worst game but it's also not good.

It turns out Gex is an awful party game, so I am very disappointed. Next up, tennis.

Got this for Christmas, wish I asked for something else, honestly it might've been enjoyable if you didn't have to tap the amiibos down every time you want to roll the dice. The minigames that aren't part of the party mode are very fun, but they exist on New leaf, so why bother?

Pathetic. While there's nice visuals.and one or two cute scenes, this game has about as much depth and replayability as a teardrop. Yeah, I love seeing my favourite villagers in HD, but that's just not enough to make a game good. The best part of this game was that I got some neat figurines and it only coated £5. The actual game is pure garbage.

The word boring and tedious is described as Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival, a well-intentioned game but a terrible and boring spin off of a good saga.

this is just another mediocre party games. It's not then worst game in the whole world, but it unfortunately lacks content, is overpriced, requires amiibos to play, and gets boring very fast. there are some minigames that are fun to play, but it doesn't justify it's 60 dollar price, and even then, the minigames requires amiibos to play!! are you serious nintendo? it might be fun for athis is just another mediocre party games. Worse Copy of Mario Party, they copied the whole thing with bad grafics and less Minigames. However it‘s a funny partygame to play with friends!

It's not a bad game, definitely not. If you have a lot of NFC Cards, the game is really enjoyable. Relaxing.

This game killed my Dad and f***ed my mom. It watches me as I sleep, and haunts me every night. I have PTSD every time the words "Animal," "Crossing," "Amiibo," or "Festival" are said, and November 13, 2015, is more terrifying to me than September 11, 2001.

If I ever have to play this game again, I will probably kill myself.

It's a nice way to put your amiibos to use. It's a party game, so don't expect deep or too complex gameplay mechanics, but cards and action figures are implemented in an original and interesting way.

It's digital board gaming at its most basic, with a surprisingly sincere effort from a developer that seems burnt out on the genre.

Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival is Mario Party but lacking true content!
