I was like many who didn't know if I could get into this game, but investing in it is worth it all- when you figure out the mechanics (and they are much, much easier to understand after a little play) and seeing how nicely every little system within the game fits together and feeds the experience - this game was a joy.

The final 5 hours of the game consumed me in a way few other narratives have. There is a heartwarming philosophy at the core of this game, and though it treads in many familiar jrpg tropes it also stands firm on its own as a testament to the genre.

Certainly, in my opinion, one of the greats.

As of finishing it yesterday I have to say that in my opinion that it was the best game released in 2017! As I got further and further into the game I found myself slowly but surely becoming entranced into the deep world of Xenoblade 2. The story despite having a somewhat slow and trope-heavy start really began to pick up around Chapter 3 or so and I found myself becoming emotionally attached to the various characters within this story. All in all it took me roughly 85 hours to finish the main story alongside a significant amount of extra content (affinity charts, sidequests etc.) and almost every second of it was magical.

However, despite my amazing experience there is a reason I said almost. This game has a few issues which slightly dragged down the experience for me. This included lip syncing, occasional bad voice acting from the English cast, blade summoning, collectathon sidequests, somewhat invasive tutorials and worst of all a combat system which was only a bit above mediocre. The combat system despite being generally engaging due to its simplistic complexity ended up becoming too repetitive to remain anywhere near as engaging as in the beginning. In my opinion the main issue with this battle system was how long it would sometimes take to kill even normal enemies. This issue could easily be fixed by buffing enemy damage whilst also buffing the damage and healing of your own party.

This game however, isn't for everyone, if you're looking for a short game to play or can't stand minor yet also infuriating inconveniences you most likely won't find this game suffices your needs. I'd personally recommend this game for those who rather than focusing only on game play also enjoy the stories and lore within video game universes.

Despite the negatives of the game I find that my own personal enjoyment of the game severely outweighed the negatives mentioned. Overall I'd give the game a solid 9.5/10 based purely on my own enjoyment of the game!

I'd never played a JRPG before, combat looked strange, I was not a fan of the voice acting in the trailer, what I had seen of the story looked basic, and the art style did not appeal to me whatsoever. I eventually looked into it more and as I learned more about it I slowly came on to the idea of buying it. So I picked it up when it came out, cautiously, and got stuck into it. In the end, I was wrong about nearly everything, this is one of the best games of 2017 in my opinion, and not only has it made me interesting in playing another JRPG it exiles in all the things I was worried about when I first learned about it. Combat works, and its some of the most interesting, fun and complex combat in any game. Once you catch onto it at the beginning it is workable and as it slowly introduces new mechanics it improves tenfold. It does a relatively good job of introducing mechanics and inner workings of combat but I found some combat explanations online very useful. Mastering a particular aspect of combat and then going back to defeat a particularly hard foe is extremely satisfying. And the levelling up of your character and blades, or unlocking a new power is satisfying in the same way. The story in Xenoblade is something I ended up really enjoying, its pretty fun and despite the game's length tended to go past pretty brisk at most points. It deals with some interesting themes about friendship and what it means to be human, all this through an ensemble of colourful and interesting characters with depth. This goes for both the main cast, NPCs and even the villains I was happy to watch ALL of the many long cutscenes and stayed engaged with the story the whole time. I had said that at my initial learning of the game I was not on board with the voice acting but in the end, it was pretty ok with me. To be clear I played with English voices because I am not a true weeb and while I was mostly indifferent about the voice acting the voices were distinctive and seemed correct for (and a part of) the characters. Not to mention the fact that there was a large variety of voices, you got not just American accents but Scottish, British, Australian and more. And from these accounts, you could tell which nation the person speaking was from with pretty good accuracy, which I reckon is a cool touch and some fun world building. Xenoblade brings an extremely interesting approach to fantasy that also integrates it with a degree of science fiction and an original idea for a world. I was really happy that it did this because it made the game all the more better. And finally, while at the beginning I was not a fan of the art style I very quickly grew comfortable and actually really loved it. But, sadly my one big complaint comes within this category and it is to do with character models. While most are really good basically all of the female models are dumb and oversexualised. What makes it worse is that some of these characters who have been objectified by their design end up being really cool and fleshed out characters. It says a lot that this is by far my biggest issue but it was noticeable and pervasive throughout all of the game. I think some of my issues with this is that it's my first JRPG and the first time I've really had this as an issue but it doesn't dismiss this as a valid problem and a slight on a great game. In conclusion. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is an extremely good game with a lot of merit in a lot of places and in my mind is an uncountable must have for Nintendo Switch. Expand

The game starts very SLOW!!! My first reaction within about 1 hour of playing was actually regret... But as I played the game, and starting building up an actual party I started to enjoy the game more. While it lacks the polish of a game like Zelda Breath of the Wild, overall, the cut scenes, and mechanics, and depth of the game made up for it. Many of the female characters (blades) are little over the top sexy, which can be awkward at times if you're with mixed company. Even though the English voice acting is a little wonky, some of the voice actors are really good. The story (No spoilers) is amazing. I haven't played the original Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but I can say that the story of the 2nd is awesome. And a big reason for the story are the cut scenes! Finally the soundtrack...oh gosh the soundtrack. Where to even begin? From "Counterattack" to "Incoming!!" to "Awakening" and beyond, the soundtrack was amazing. I love the electric guitar vibe you get from it, showing how tense the situation is. One of the most notable song is "Elysium of the Blue Sky" which is by far one of the most moving songs I have heard so far in a video game. I was at first a Zelda music fan, but after Xenoblade Chronicles 2, it blew Zelda themes out of the water for me! Also, about the combat. The battles are a lot better than the original Xenoblade Chronicles out of what I know, but even though I hear a lot of people complaining about it, the first thing I say, "it's a Role Playing Game, okay? Your going to need to give it some slack." but even though at first glance it's a big rip-off, it has a lot more in-depth strategy you need to be aware of. One of the main things is the blade combos with the chain attack. it gets quite confusing for beginners and I didn't really pay attention to that availability for my first 50 hours of playing, but if you do try it, it's very helpful. So yeah, the combat is a bit more well with the strategy than entertainment. It's really engrossing with how much I want to do in it! Overall, I think the game deserves a 10/10 in my opinion. Expand

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a JRPG, that mixes some old elements of RPG, and this new dynamic gameplay, where you can run around and attack. Its this mix, between the feeling of turn-based and action RPG. Reminds FF XII, actually. This is a great game, I`ll list my impression of this game. Please note that I am an old gamer, that played tons of RPG`s, since the NES, so I have a lot of Backgrounds to compare.

    The Cons:

    - The English voice dubs it's not good because it's out of sync frequently. Additionally, sometimes the voice actors have no feeling when you compare to what the game is trying to make you feel (but I have to admit, they try really hard to be good, and most of the time they are). However, you can download for FREE the Japanese dubs.
    - I feel that many variables in the game (for your gameplay and customization), are not necessary and they could have made something better. It's a gigantic pain to upgrade your blades sometimes (Kill X of some monster, Talk to X people). Things like that.
    - Some of you may like this, but I am not a big fan: the cut scenes are too frequent for me. You get some space to be free, and when you least expect, you get caught in the middle of [another] 5-10 min cutscene. It gets annoying since this kind of RPG is more enjoyable when you have more freedom. But man, they are good.

    The Good:

    - Great graphics and AMAZING artwork. If you love the artwork, like me, I strongly advice playing attention to everything and even buying the limited edition, that comes with a 220 pages art book.
    - Great Story, full of emotional moments. The Story is genius because it gets you off guard. You THINK you are getting all, that you understand the story and it is a standard teen story. BUT IT IS NOT. Its full of emotional moments and deep thinking. The more you play, the more you get deep into de characters and the world.
    - Again, this is one of the most beautiful games I have ever played in my life.
    - Extremely fun characters to get to know, and nice pacing.
    - Good combat, but could be better. Nevertheless, it is still good. The Blades Mechanics is alot of fun and it is new, different and original. It gets betters as you get more Blades.
    - Awesome cutscenes, although frequent.
    - Great NPCs (their personalities are a little cliche, but they are charismatic), nice party choices.
    - Beautiful, amazing idea of the whole world. You will really feel that you are in a new world.
    - The Blades Mechanics are a great gameplay structure.

Overall, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is an amazing game that you must have for your Switch Library. It reminds an old RPG, that nice, good pacing, slow-building worlds and great character and artwork design. Like a cross of Final Fantasy VI artwork (SNES), Final Fantasy XII and X gameplay (PS2), with a mix of Dragon Quest pacing of the story. But all recreated with better technology and less clunky play. It does bring new elements to the table (the Blades mechanics). You will get some of that classical personalities in Japanese anime: the serious character, the funny, the edgy girl, the hero, etc, but they are charismatic, thus, becoming enjoyable. The story gets better as you progress, getting to the point you think "Man, this is awsome". Dont miss it, people.

A wonderful, wonderful game; maybe not that beautiful in visuals, but still. It catches all you want from a traditional rope-playing game.

Above all that, it has one of the best musics among all games released in 2017.

It does have some minor flaws which will somehow impact your gameplay experience, some of them are fixed by patches. They are: map system (improved by patches), some UI flow, low resolution on handheld mode.

To sum up, I recommend those who love RPGs, and were familiar with Japanese anime culture (at least not hate that), this game is a must-have for you guys.

And be sure download Japanese V.O package, I don't think the tone of the game is suitable for English V.O, no offense tho, it's just the theme is too J-RPG like.

This is a one of a kind game.

Besides its relative slowness at the beginning of the game, its world quickly becomes adictive, inviting you to visit it, and to happily grind the **** out of it.

The main storyline is just mind blowing.

You should use the japenese dubbing, and expect some out of context/funny reactions from the characters.

The combat requires concentration, timing, and strategy in how you set up your blades and characters to fulfill different roles. The environments are expansive and colorful, full of collectibles, unique monsters and blades to find. Yasunori Mitsuda is back from Xenoblade 1 and in this respect the game is definitely on par with the original, you will want the soundtrack. I don't put a lot of stake in graphics, but the game looks great in docked mode and drops in resolution noticeably in handheld mode, but nothing else suffers any loss. The gameplay seemed like it would get repetitive at first, but honestly? It's super fun and addictive. As for the localization? It's somewhat bad, they fit the dialogue to the british dub and made dumb changes with names, like morag and tora calling rex 'rex-rex' instead of 'big bro' (aniki). However i'm glad nothing plot relevant was changed, the personality of characters seemed intact, I love the entire cast, even the two characters I hated got a really good redemption. I also really appreciate the dual audio and applaud the devs for including it. Because of some minor annoyances like field skills affecting story progression and my playtime glitching,

But now I am enjoying the game more than I did with Zelda botw. The combat is like a hybrid of jrpg & mmos done quite right. I've read negative comments regarding to combat- saying its too slow or too messy. I won't disagree since that was my first impression too. However, it would be nice if you guys stayed around till mid Chapter 3 or Chapter 4 in which the combat pacing starts to pick up, and also to watch youtube regarding to the combat system since the tutorial isn't very good at explaining. Once you get the gist of the combat, you'll realize it isn't slow nor is it messy.

All in all, if you have an urge for JRPGs or games like old Final Fantasy series, mmorpgs, or even rpg pokemon games, then this game is for you. Looks like a 30$ game, but if by the sheer amount of contents (probably 3 to 4 times more than modern triple A games), its definitely worth 60$.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is an amazing experience, but I've found myself being frustrated for about a solid 20% of my playthrough. Some game design choices make no sense (for example, there's a level 80 monster that can one-shot you in the STARTING AREA of the game) and most of the events caused by these choices are designed to annoy the player or halt their progress for no reason. The progress of the story, while phenomenal, is often blocked by ability-specific roadblocks towards the end of the game. All these small kinks and more taint an otherwise perfect game. Expand

Honestly I actually felt regretted over this purchase in the beginning due to few reasons. BUT as I proceed through the game, I am starting to get hooked deeper and deeper.
    The plus:
    1. The story is very engaging although I dislike its pace. The story is just like watching an anime (a teen anime to be precise), get hooked by the story and the suspense all over the cut scene. The setting of the story is very fresh and cool for me too. Cloud sea, world tree, titans, salvaging….
    2. The depth of the game. The longer you play the game, the more things you will learn e.g. the VERY DEEP combat mechanics (blade combo auto attack cancel, arts cancel, blade switch), pouch items, affinity, huge item choices to match with your play style, just like your usual JRPG. It’s very satisfying to see all the skills on the affinity charts are unlocked.
    3. Waifu! We have Pyra, Mythra, Morag, etc. Nuff said.
    4. The content. Many things or places to explore. Play it and you will know about it.

    The minus:
    1. The disgustingly bad graphics in handheld mode. The graphic just looks sooooo bad in handheld mode. It’s just very bad until the extent I can’t believe this game runs on a Switch. However, it looks much better in dock mode. Anyway I am just too lazy to play in dock mode (Switch is meant to be primarily played in handheld mode right). And few hours in, you won’t be bugged by the bad graphics anymore lol.
    2. Awkward camera.
    3. Map is somehow hard to navigate for me.
    4. Childish dialogue. Again, get used to it and you will enjoy the game without any problem.
Overall the game has so much potential if the graphics in handheld mode is as good as dock mode.

Featuring a vibrant world, great story and colourful cast of characters with great characterisation and even though the game starts off simple, you'll find that a few hours in, the battle system is surprisingly varying and complex.

The game takes place from the perspective of main protagonist, Rex, a simple young boy who scavengers for a living. He is offered a job which gives him a payment of $100,000 and heads out on a flying ship where he discovers a blade who called herself Pyra. The two sets out on a journey to Elysium. That's the basic premise of the plot. Sound simple? well, it is. The story is very focused, yet I found it to have a very basic layout compared to the complex epic with twists and turns all over of Xenoblade chronicles. Rex was someone I found to be intolerable annoying at the start of the game. However, at about 10 hours in I started to warm up to Rex a bit and found him to be somewhat decent even if his northin Yorkshire accent can put me off. Pyra is just there. She lacks personality and only seems to serve as a plot device rather than an actual human. While she's one of the more interesting characters in this story, she failed to deliver in being engaging as a character in anyway. Coming with these simple, yet likeable characters also comes some surprisingly cringeworthy dialogue and voice acting. Yes, I get it, you called a man in his thirties elderly, calm down.. It's not that funny.

While the story is a major downgrade from the original masterpiece, the presentation of Xenoblade chronicles 2 is far superior. The art style is a gorgeous anime adventure wrapped inside of beautiful environments, locals and.. fan service? to explore. Additionally, the sound track is ear melting, it really lives up to the standards of the original unlike xenoblade chronicles X with some of my favourites being "counterattack" and "Elysium of the blue sky." But in all of xenoblade 2's beauty, there are some flaws. Some of the cutscenes have some very.. Awkward animations in them. When Rex started touching Pyra's chest I felt very awkward, it was like a less sexual version of hentai and when Pyra started Naruto running all the tension the scene could've had was broken by my laughter.

While the game isn't perfect, easily the best part of Xenoblade 2 is the new improved combat system. The party gauge has been revived from the grave I though xenoblade X had left it in and thank god is all I can say. You only have access to three arts in this game instead of eight and instead of being cool down based, you have to build up the power to use them by landing regular attacks. The new mechanic this time is the blades, characters like Pyra are known as blades and can be equipped to Rex at any time. Each blade has there own unique special art which can be built up to three different levels, meaning you have access to seven arts on each blade. All five party members can equip up to three blades at a time which you can switch between at will, leaving you with a total of 21 different arts at your disposal. The possibilities are truly endless. There are even more possibilities in battle I haven't even covered. I only have two issues with the new interface: The first one is that you have to be standing still to auto attack. It really breaks up the pace of the fights as at the start of the game you're just standing still waiting for a chance to press Y instead of moving around FEELING like you're actually doing something even when you're not. The other change I'm not happy with is the affinity chart which is a lot more cumbersome to use. Monolithsoft, don't fix what isn't broken.

In the end, xenoblade chronicles is a gorgeous, vibrant RPG adventure with a simple story and occasionally cringeworthy writing but extraordinarily fun and rewarding combat. If you like JRPG's then you'll love this, if you don't then you'll be somewhere between liking and hating it.

Takes place on 13 massive open worlds. Bulk of game taken up by 13hr long, slowly paced cutscenes & 100hrs of questing. No exaggeration. Animation ranges in quality. It looks great visually, but conversations go on for eternity while robotic movements lack emotional spark to grip anyone whose not an Anime junky. Combat, though grindy at times, has a lot of interestingly deep, yet simple mechanics. I liked how I could gain money/exp by doing all kinds of side activities. It made each thing you do have a purpose. Camera panning controls is the best feature in a 3D game to date. You can lock into any perspective to hearts desire. It was specifically useful to play using overhead view in spaces with larger enemies.

For someone who favors streamlined games, I did feel it was punishing that I needed to farm for hours to unlock doors in main story by meeting criteria of character field skills. You can’t just obtain these abilities at will. You need to gamble rare crystals with low probability on top of fulfilling achievement chart style missions. At certain points, I would be acquiring new characters during journey that could no longer use throughout full playthrough. Was working on boosting skills for them, but came to find that character died permanently during a scene. To my dismay, all of my hard work maxing this guy would be rendered useless. By the endgame, a specific world I was fond of for farming got destroyed. Story warned me multiple times to save or I couldn’t continue further to beat the game. It was then where I had no choice but to sacrifice a great area in exchange to see a few more boss encounters & longwinded cutscenes.

Combat would have these broken moments where Ai would slip off of a cliff. Ai got confused by this & run into walls. During a farming zone battle where I fought a high level enemy, monsters I had killed a few minutes ago auto-spawned as high level beast slipped into area with a horde. Was annoying because it got me killed over clunky design. Flying enemies were hard to reach with normal attacks. Needed to farm until had a Blade Core with a long ranged weapon to inflict a reasonable amount of damage.

The worst thing about game is the mission trackers. I constantly struggled in Gormott Province. There was a tree blocking where marker told me to follow. It had an up arrow at 30 percent. So I climbed the tree, then it says I’m supposed to be at the bottom. Very frustrating & misleading.

Although had many issues, the pros outweighed the cons. I liked it because was into the adventuring aspect. Certain moments captured the essence found in Zelda series. Worlds are very largely scaled & big enough to compare in scope to MMOs. Almost would consider genre a Massively Single Player JRPG. Wouldn’t recommend to fans of Ocarina of Time unless they don’t mind pacing through sections that take longer by compulsively tasking for hours. Simple things like selecting multiple items to use at a time would have sped things up dramatically. Was it necessary to not have a load file option during game? A run button would be ever so useful. Not to mention a pause button during battle. Got killed because had to blow my nose. As it stands, game is suited for those who got lost in older Chrono, Mana, Final Fantasy, Xenogears Ips, or those with very patient attention spans.

The story isn't original but it's very VERY captivating. The combat system takes time to learn but becomes incredible once you've mastered it, the voice acting in English is mixed. The female characters all have great voices but some male characters and foremost our protagonist, Rex has a terrible voice. He's not a bad voice actor per say but he **** up in some key moments. There is also a Japanese voice pack which is great as always.

I can't recommend this game enough, give it time and you'll be emotionally attached to it

And oh boy am I glad I continued. The first problem I had was that was that the battle system was weird difficult and convoluted and at the start it was but once you get used to it you will realise how fun satisfying and clever the combat system is especially late game. Next was how I would get lost constantly which I still think is a bit of an issue but it helps you explore the huge areas that they offer instead of just following a strict path. Now we get onto the big positives and those are. 1. The Incredible and engaging story. 2. The top-notch soundtrack and 3. The gorgeous visuals. First, we begin with the story, the story is incredible I don't have the time to go over it now but trust me it's amazing. Next we have the music, now this soundtrack I listen to all the time some of my favourites are; The tomorrow with you, Elysium in the blue sky, were we used to be, Elysium, Drifting souls, Gormott, Mor Ardain (day), Elysium in the dream, counterattack, the decision and many many more. And finally the visuals. I don't usually take screenshots on my switch but Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is one exception to that because it's such a beautiful game. In conclusion, if you are a JRPG guy then this a must buy if you have a switch and if you don't buy one with this game it's that good. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have been playing the Xenoblade Series since the first. I Loved 1 and I Liked X for 2 I would Say I Liked it as well.

First of all story wise the story is okay. Not bad actually there is of course some cliches. But these are cliches that I can't live without.

Game play Wise when I first watched it on the trailer I said to myself that is one long fight for just a regular enemy. When I was able to play it it was really still long just to finish a fight. However as I progress as I Get the skills on how the mechanics work. The fights are becoming more enjoyable that I barely notice is long. Sometimes fights are actually fast now if you get the trick.

It can be overwhelming at the start because the way they show the tutorial is just a text screen that you need to follow. I believe it could've been better but that's just me.

There is again a lot of quest but mostly was just tedious for me but I did like the side quest for the blades. Except you Ursula. God That merc mission is so annoying. you'll basically just send Ursula all the time rather than using her.

I also hated the field skill which kept you changing your blades from time to time. wish it could've been permanent and you don't have to apply the field skill again.

Going to music. I still prefer the Musics on first but I did liked some on Xenoblade 2 but not much that I could explain how good it is.

All in all it is still a great game. When I complete the game a hole was left in my heart as I typed this review.

But now I am going to Torna. I am not interested on the story 500 years ago but I need something to fill the void in my heart. I am hoping this will be the one to do it.

BTW my favorite blade is Agate. I love her accent and her personality. I also love her Japanese VA but I would still go back to her English VA.

also this should've been waifu Chronicles 2 instead. Not that I'm complaining but I would like to see more Male blades.

I think that Monolith Software is finding the balance between story and characters, my biggest issue with XC1 is that the characters didn't stand on par with the story, they were too generic, but here, even when they represent some cliches, they're likable and charming in their own way. The music is good and some of the tracks are amazing, they remind me a little of crono trigger, but a lot of them are kind of generic. The combat is not as amazing as XC1 or XCX but is still good and it has its own personality thanks to the blades system which is so refreshing, if you're into JoJo's Bizarre Adventure the blades are practically stands, also speaking of JoJo, one of the writers (Soraya Saga) is a big JoJo fan, so I will say that some of the character's backstories are very dark and similar to the ones that appear in parts 7 and 8 of that said manga, but that's just a baseless theory anyway. My issues with this game are that a lot of the side content is way too boring and generic as the back entries, and it needs a lot of mindless backtracking, the menu and hud are better than past entries but not for much, they need to sort that thing by the next entry. As for the blades, is an amazing system but it also depends a lot on luck, in order to unlock all the extra blades, you rely on certain items that summon by chance rare blades or normal blades, it seems to me more like a P2W mechanic and it also depends a lot on grinding, so I didn't like it at all. At last, the localization team seems to make a lot of changes in the names and some of the dialogue and is pretty noticeable when you play it with Japanese audio, and as far of fan service and anime-japanese things here is a lot of that, I like it but if you're easily triggered by cleavage and non-practical female outfits you may pass on this one.

I think that this entry expands on the universe set by the first game and is better in almost everything, but is still a little far to become a classic, that being said when you finish the 12 hour tutorial is pretty damn fun onwards.

Perhaps one of the best rpg's on the switch, however that doesn't mean it goes without its faults and flaws. The world design, in particular is mediocre, however the world presentation is amazing, what Nintendo is at fault here is the lack of reason to explore and also the poor script in the story as it goes on which evidently makes you not care anymore. Along with a titans worth of miscellaneous crap that will likely be over looked, this only proves that Nintendo doesn't quite have the formula down, at least for this game. Expand

By miles, this game is the best game for Switch, and no, that isn't a contrarian Breath of the Wild hater's opinion. Where BotW won out in visuals, this game had everything else. It hit every cord so perfectly in terms of world structure, story, combat, pacing, difficulty, and pretty much everything else.

It hit every cord so perfectly in terms of world structure, story, combat, pacing, difficulty, and pretty much everything else.

The world, though not as visually stunning or free as Breath of the Wild's feels more polished and more tailored to what I want, where the monsters, loot, and quests are organized exactly how they should be across the map to make it interesting and make exploration exciting. Certain areas are walled off until you hit certain milestones in terms of blade development providing constant reason to care to go back and explore zones which you've previously been.

The combat, which is the best part of the game despite what critics might have tried to convince you, is easy to learn, but with incredible depth that rewards you not only in increased damage output for learning and getting good at it, but also in loot. If you do well and work hard to do well, you get better and more items providing a constant motivation to not just mash buttons. This system kept me interested through to the last moments to take every fight seriously.

The blade system, which is essentially a pokemon/booster pack opening system whereby you find certain blades in the world/story or find certain cores (booster packs) which you open with a random chance of getting something good, is fantastic. The RNG is perfectly structured where you can't just farm cores and get them all early on, but where it gets more difficult as you're getting down to your last few and pretty much requires you to wait for the cores you get later in the game. There is NO pay to win here, no loot-boxes where there could have been, just a system designed to make the game more fun, and they truly succeeded.

To address the most controversial portion of the game, the design of women and female blades, all I have to say is recognize this game was made in Japan and that video games remain to be a far more widely-held male hobby. Add 15 points to the critics' score and 1.0 point to the use score and we'd be at a more honest place discounting political nonsense spilling into video games. Then we're at a 98 for critics and 9.4 for users, the disparities from a perfect score for critics stemming from an admitted time commitment and learning curve in figuring out the combat system and for users in not liking hard games.

Also, if you need further verification that this game was scored unjustly for political motivations, look up some videos of the voice acting, hear how great it is, then look up reviews. Critics seriously scored lower for the game because they exclusively used European accents rather than a more diverse collection of accents, quality of the voice acting not even addressed.

But back to the regular review stuff, the story is incredibly thought-out and expansive; not just save the world from Ganondorf but understand the world and why you are destined to fight him in various forms for all eternity level stuff. The characters are unique and likable, their individual plots and motivations enjoyable. Mechanics wise though, my only objection would be that one spoiler unnamed character should have been a different class so as to make all the characters and team selections equally viable.

Looking forward to the expansion this fall, and though I already have the season pass, this game is so good, a big irrational part of me wants to buy the physical copy of the expansion I already have a digital copy of just to contribute to the developers.

10/10 will play several more 100+ hour play-throughs again in my life.

Una obra maestra, este juego es simplemente excelente en todo. Una nota: este jugo no esta relacionado con los anteriores de la saga ni en historia ni en jugabilidad, así que no hagáis caso a los trolls que le dan mala nota porque no se parece a los anteriores.

Amazing game all around. The story, characters, OST, and visuals are all top tier and enjoyable. The further you dive into the game, the more complex and exciting the battle system becomes. ((MINOR BLADE SPOILER))

Words can’t describe how F***ing amazing this game is. I bought this game because it looked fun, and I like anime, but I knew the combat was like dragon age, which I despise. I opened the game up on my switch, and noticed something right off the bat. This game looked U G L Y on handheld. That didn’t take away my from my experience, as it looks phenomenal docked.

I opened the game up on my switch, and noticed something right off the bat. This game looked U G L Y on handheld. That didn’t take away my from my experience, as it looks phenomenal docked. Next, I need to talk about the story. Absolutely amazing, and isn’t afraid to deal with dark subjects such as death, depression, and loneliness. I was astonished at the surprisingly great voice acting in English, and Japanese. For some reason, I felt like I had to play it in Dub, as the Japanese didn’t seem right to me. The blades in this game, which are the Pokémon aspects, looked good, and terrible. This game, as a blind purchase was amazing. You may see reviews talking about how the combat is sluggish, or how enemies can aggro onto you from a mile away, but, even though I experienced that once or twice, I still had a fun time with the game. The characters are so charming, and likable, I couldn’t pick best girl or boy. Maybe the best girl in my opinion is ((Partial Spoilers)) Mythra, and best boy is Zeke, or the Zekenator. I wish the game was longer, even though it took me 150 hours to beat it. No major complaints here, but this game is very niche. If you don’t like JRPG’s, massive boobs, or combat that takes a while to get good, then don’t buy this. I’m okay with JRPG’s, and I was so surprised at how much I loved this. Another wish is that I want Nintendo to bring Xenoblade Chronicles X to switch. Have a wonderful day, reader.

A fight with an ordinary enemy whose level is slightly higher can drag on for minutes, especially if you’re fighting it alone. The combat itself is also rife with problems: sometimes main character even fails to draw his weapon, or locks onto a far-off enemy, while another already is eviscerating him in close combat. Despite some rough patches, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a worthy addition to any Switch owner's library, especially if you have a predilection for RPGs and enjoyed either of the previous entries in the series. [Issue #32 – March/April 2018, p. 75]

Extensive and massive JRPG. Although with a rather cliché story and characters, it comes with a beautiful world and a fighting system growing more and more complex with every hour played. [Issue#282]
