Tl;dr : The game isn't as good as it should have been. It has a blatant disregard for the player's time and the mixed bag that's design/characters/story keeps it from being fun.

I was a fan of the first XBC, I never finished it cos it was wayyyyyy too long for me but the time I spent with the game was fun. XBC2 however seems to throw away most of what XBC was about. The world is still gorgeous but a lot less polished. The combat is still MMO-ish but you have a lot less to do in combat and a lot more useless mechanics. The story is, so far, run-of-the-mill Shounen **** Go here, do 3-4 fetch quests, watch a cutscene, do 3-4 more fetch quests, and I'm talking about main story quests, not optional side quests.

Lets add some examples so people reading this can decide if this game is for them or not.
I died around 30-40 times to roaming flying mobs that are higher level than me. The initial area has around 5 of them, with another area off the side where you have another 4. You puling mobs cos they look interesting and you wanna fight them? A flying mobs joins and kills you. You grind to become strong enough to kill it? You get the mob low and another on of the **** joins in.
Like, seriously, who is the idiot who designed the enemies in that world? I'm at the point where I don't want to explore because every area has 5 of these **** killing whenever I try to engage anything. It's like the game doesn't know if it wants me to explore the beautiful world they built, or it wants to **** me over for **** and giggles.

Story is boring so far, I'm around 12 hours in, it might get interesting but I doubt it. The main protagonist is a blank slate nice guy with no personality and an annoying voice. Pyra, the second protagonist is more interesting and better voiced but her design makes her impossible to take seriously. She looks like she not only doesn't belong to the world but was also designed by a 13 year old boy who wanted to make Tron porn. E.g. at night she glows, which makes her fake looking huge boobs shine with green neon lights. I have no idea who designed her, he obviously never saw boobs in his life, or why he decided that this is the feature he wants to emphasize, but whatever.

Lastly, the game's combat is, for the most part, boring. You need to time your skills to see the shining blue ring (still don't know what it does) and you need to combine skills for elemental trees (which is arguably the best part of combat) and you need to use skills to make enemies drop potions(?!?!?!?!) but the whole thing only comes together in boss fight where you have the time to build up combo chains. The usual combat isn't just a grindfest, it's a boring grindfest where you wait for icons to fill up. Also, did I mention you have 3 skills per character? Yup, you have 3 skills. 3 on each blade but the transition between blades is on cooldown as well. So you just wait...

Some of the griped I have with the game are not design flaws but issues that can be patched out (like the **** enemy placement) but a lot of it is part of the way the game was built. They want you to grind and they want you to wait and they don't want you to have any fun.
I'll try and finish it so I can get my money's worth but I don't recommend others play this.

The character designs present range from extremely bland and forgetabble to extremely try hard at "moe". The voice acting is atrocious, do not play it in English at all, use the Japanese voices, and the repetitiveness of the voice clips is grating. The combat is a real mess of useless combat functions, QTEs and needlessly padding itself out to appear more complex than it actually is. The battles take extremely long too, far more longer than they need to and it makes getting through battles a complete slog where you're just wailing down the enemy sponges while watching autobattle play out. You can't even move when doing autobattle either which makes it even more restrictive. The combat is also very slow compared to the two previous Xenoblade games.

The graphics are vastly worse than Xenoblade X on the Wii U, which is odd considering the Switch is more powerful than the Wii U, and it takes an even bigger hit when on undocked mode, a blurry pixelated mess with FPS issues across the board.

The use of different artists doing the character designs creates a huge inconsistency design wise, as everything looks like a mismatched hodpodge of characters like they belong to different games. It's utterly jarring, and the overuse of pervy anime tropes got eye roll worthy real quick.

There's a solid foundation here, ruined by the excessive sexualization, obnoxious voice acting, and way too heavy handed "lets appeal to all the weebs!" approach.

XC1 didn't have this same issue imo, but it made this game completely unplayable to me. If this style appeals to you, you'll absolutely love this game [or, more realistically, probably already do]. If you're not an anime girl

There are plenty of mechanics in this game, but so many of them feel like they were put in then somebody shoved them into the game and refused to let the designer do anything interesting with them.

Then there is the map for this game. The map and waypoint system for this game is beyond useless, one of the MAIN STORY QUESTS for the game requires you to go find "dawnview grotto" which is way up on a mountain with one way up. You want to know where it is? You have to climb a tree root, then climb another tree root so narrow it doesn't look like somewhere you're actually intended to walk then you follow the one linear path up to the five items you need to collect. There is only one way to go up and it's just a crappy fetch quest.

That is so much of a problem with the game, collectathon RPG but without the movement mechanics to back that sort of gameplay up. You' think you're done with this quest? NO you have to pay for this lady to fix her stove because screw you. No matter what the quest is no matter how tiny and insignificant it seems it generally feels like they plucked it out of Vanilla World of Warcraft, stretched out the distance you need to walk and stapled four or five more quests to the end there.

As an RPG and especially compared to Xenoblade 1 and even Xenoblade X this game feels like I'm eating packets of unflavored bulk dry instant ramen instead of playing an RPG, because NO LADY I DON'T want to fix your goddamn stove and I shouldn't have to pay to fix YOUR stove, and this quest should have ended when i gave you everything you needed to make a pie. In case you're wondering that isn't the only sidequest that pissed me off, it was just the one that stood out the most for how crap it was.

The story is interesting and it's what kept me playing, even though it contains typical japanese weeabo/loli themes. The music is actually amazing, Mor Ardain night theme has to be my personal favorite.

However, the combat is absolut garbage, hated every minute of it. If you've ever played an MMO like WoW, it can be compared to raiding, except solo and you use your blades (kinda like pokemons) to perform elemental combos. Only one problem, it's really bad compared to todays MMO combat standards.

For casual players it doesn't require any optimization, but if you're playing on harder difficulties, you might need to spend time tweaking all the buffs, and skill settings, and Blade affinities, etc. There are a lot of challenging enemies that can test your setup and skills.
    - Fun and diverse battle system.

    Cons:
    - Boring story. What's worse - it is a long and boring story. A very generic JRPG plot stretched out way too much. For the game that is so imaginative with it's design, the plot is so unoriginal, it's a crime against Xeno-series fans. At least it was cool to look for plot connections with XC1.
    - Questionable character design. I'm Ok with a step back towards more childish anime-style, but why did they make some female characters with such a huge breasts and exposing outfits? Those are distracting and break the immersion.
    - Field skills everywhere. Field skills were Ok in Xenoblade Chronicles X - the requirements to open containers and do some actions were not as often and added a bit more depths to exploration. In XC2 field skills checks are EVERYWHERE. Almost every side-quest, and some progression in main story quests are locked behind a multitude of field skill requirements that can be a pain in the ass to fulfill. But the worst thing, that probably is my main grudge against this game, is MICROMANAGEMENT. It is ridiculous, how much micromanagement with blade switching you have to do in this game just to match field skill requirements with the proper configuration of Blades. Some quests and locations require you to do the same thing several times in a row just because of several field skill checks one after another. Same mind-numbing steps: go to the menu, spend several minutes looking for a Blade with a proper field skill, assign it to the character, repeat with other field skills, go back from the menu, pass the check, then repeat the same steps for the next check. Seriously, out of more than 100 hours spent in this game, I probably spent 5-10 hours just on Blade micromanagement alone.

Overall, this game was fun to play for a while just for its battle system and visuals. But boring story hours spent on mechanical Blade micromanagement made it unbearable after a while.

When the party stopped for a sec they got hit by an unseen foe and all got killed by this one hit. Luckily I had saved a few seconds before that and when I loaded the game and looked around to find what killed my party I found a level 81 monster roaming the world in high speed.

In a nutshell, what started as a promising RPG with a unique take on the world, fight mechanics and various complexities that are usually absent in RPGs, turned into a boring chore with a cheesy Japanese storyline and absolutely abysmal game design choices.

The story as you are aware, takes places on large titan like creatures, that are essentially continents, each filled with various missions and monsters to fight. Despite the idea itself sounding great, what you end up having is a bunch of difficult to track and locate fetch quests, some of which suffer from horrible pathing or from map bugs and some end up taking you through areas you're not ready for. The monsters are all mixed, so you'll always find yourself one shotted by random mobs everywhere.
The quests for the most part are unimaginative and boring and the main storyline feels like it was written by a prepubescent Japanese high school boy.

Battle mechanics dont' change almost at all throughout the game, so you will actually be fighting the auto battles with even trash mobs until late parts of the game. This means you have to spend at least a minute of just watching your characters doing cheesy moves and shouting their attack slogans even when fighting a monster 10-20 levels below your level. The scaling in this game is non existent and after fighting 100s of these nonsense encounters, I juts feel like it left me numb.

The worst part of the game for me personally is the constant cheesy waifu intermissions that are literally so cringy and so out of place that I have no idea whose idea it was to put this into this title. Previous Xenoblade games were serious in their undertone and were so much better executed storyline wise, with this one just being so ridiculous that I can't even bother to care.

So after 70 hours of struggle and not really wanting to finish this crap anymore, I'm just going to leave this here: it's a good JRPG on paper and you may enjoy it for a bit, but it's horribly made, has some of the worst game designs I've seen in years and is just overall a very dull and boring RPG.

3/10 is all I'm going to give it, +1 for having a complex and potentially interesting battle system -7 for ruining everything else

FINAL EDIT: I finished this junk and it only gets worse. The game kept trying to teach tutorials until literally last chapter and there were some parts in the game where you can literally get stuck and not be able to advance if you made certain choices throughout the game in terms of your characters. It's abysmally bad in terms of game design and I can only give it one praise - environments and monsters design.
The actual storyline and gameplay are horrible. There are several half an hour long cutscenes with the clingiest dialogue I've seen in an RPG and at some point I literally just went to watch a TV show while it was playing.

    This game is HORRIBLE!

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is easily one of the worst jrpgs I've played to date, and I've played a lot. The reasons are many and unfortunately by the look of the Pfff *user score* alot of paid or fanboi reviews artificially bumping up the score. XBC2 is a beast of a game, tedious, boring and downright frustrating to play, but has charming characters and a great story assuming you can force yourself through the morass of downright obnoxious game designs and flaws.

XBC2 suffers from having far too many game mechanics in play, the game world being poorly constructed with areas having widely different monsters in them, with extremely huge level gaps which often could pop up and wipe your party at a moments notice if your not paying attention.

The combat system is unnecessarily and overly complicated with combo after combo after combo being the only real way forward, regular trash mobs often taking several minutes to beat because your arts always reset after each battle making for a substantial uphill grindfest. Consider XBC2 a single player MMO similar to FF14 but with far slower character progression and levelling, this would be the closest explanation on how this game plays out.

The control system is often janky at best, trying to navigate narrow ledges or jump on certain things often leaves your character bugging out whilst the quest system clearly enforces another very obvious grinder for relatively little rewards, but the player does them anyway because its content even if ultimately time consuming and unrewarding, an early case and point is having to rescue a Nopon from monsters, then fetching wood then going back to the quest giver then finding another Nopon then either paying 30,000 in gold or doing another fetch quest to find rarer wood then going back to the original quest giver for 300g / 200 exp reward and a few measily items, bullcrap like this is unfortunately common.

The character designs, story plot and sound though are at least par or even above par and for the switch do the system some justice but ultimately are heavily let down by everything else the game has to offer.

The interesting thing about this game though, it does have the addictive qualities of MMos because it really does feel like your playing on, and that is the only source of fun you'll have most of the time just pretending you'll run into other players to take on a unfair or frustrating raid boss that can cheat or cheese the player resulting in countless wipes until you decide just to overlevel that boss.

Blade grinding again, is another severe uphill grindfest - not only is there a significant amount of cores to find making it almost like pokemon, you'll have to level and grind them up before they'll even be even remotely useful.

They completely removed the premonition system the first game was known for even though they included it in the games story. It felt like they ran out of time, and wanted to include it but fell short. Battles began to feel like a chore. I wanted to see this story play out, even with all of its faults. But I cannot justify going through 100's of hours of battles when they are so taxing and boring just to see some of the story.

The characters fall flat and are just shallow. I'm not against tropes, but that is all the characters felt like they had to offer. And if you did not like the voice acting in the first xenoblade, they have done nothing to improve it. The story takes forever to get rolling, and feels padded down with tons of filler. It felt like a cheesy, cringey, first person's anime. Like the most terrible anime you can watch because you just started getting into all of that stuff.

Don't even get me started on the main character. He felt like he had no emotional connection to the story, and like he is just along for the ride. In all the other games you could see the character struggle and grow from the trauma and loss they experienced. In this one the most he can do is a repetitive "Daaaaamnnn" line.

Then you'll run into story quests that have a timer. Once in particular either expected you to grind and have great luck in order to get a required skill, or instead send a team of people to do it while you waste away 30 minutes. I don't understand why you would put an app game trapping into a console game like that.

I wanted to like this game, I loved all of Monolith Soft's previous works in the "Xeno" series. it was my motivation for getting a switch. It was a terrible let down. Do yourself a favor and look into the battle system, watch a few battles online. Watch a trailer or two, and don't just buy the hype. If it still looks fun, then you might have a good time. I was excited, and loved monolith soft's past games, so I really wanted to love this one.

    * I REALLY like the Empire's soldier's uniform. Looks really nice.

    Cons:

    * Resolution and graphics are painfully terrible and obvious when the Switch is in dock mode.
    Basically up scaling a 720p resolution to a 1080p monitor. ~ Yuck >XP
    * Large open world, once again, filled with nothing with exception to lots of enemies and collection
    points.
    * Who the hell decided to put extremely high level monsters, that move around, right next to batches
of small, low level monsters? I died so many times simply because I was attacked behind by one of
these monsters. Really killed the mood and beginning of the game for me.
    * The worst map ever implemented into a game! (Literally the reason why I stopped playing)
    * Game play reminds me of the old auto-attack from Knights of the Old Republic. Just here, it's very
repetitive and bland. Most enemy engagements take a while to defeat and your selection to
powers (arts) are limited to 3/4. Not exciting at all.
    * English voice acting is terrible.
    * Subtitles barely ever show up even though the feature is on.
    * Pointless and time consuming quests. Both for the main and side quests.
    * High detailed tutorial is incredibly wordy, numerously appears and still misses important
    components of the game.
    * The humour falls flat. Whether it starts off well or end wells, it always feels mediocre and poorly
thought out. Worse part is the humour in this game appears way to often and bunch together. One
joke after another and after another.

    Conclusion:

I really recommend people save their money instead of playing this. I personally feel like I wasted 13 hours playing this poorly made game when I could have just played Zelda Breathe of the Wild instead which many people love.

Yeah it’s cringe. Unlikable characters and a boring story. It’s not a very good switch exclusive. You might like it if your attracted to cartoon characters but that’s about it.

After playing the absolute Masterpiece that is Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition I immediately went out and purchased the sequel expecting it to be not as good as the original but still a great 80/100 time with fluid combat and an epic large-scale story but what I got was a worse experience in every way possible compared to the original. Buckle up because this is gonna be long...

First of all, if you like or even love this game and haven’t played the original on switch then I HIGHLY request you do because maybe you’ll be able to understand where I’m coming from. (This review won’t have story spoilers for the original game).

To start, combat in this game feels worse, you can no longer identify which enemies are hostile or docile until you get close and see if they attack you or not. In the first game there was a symbol that told you so.
The game punishes you for moving around an enemy in combat as you can no longer auto attack while moving and not to mention that movement speed in combat is excruciatingly slow making the combat feel sluggish. Normal enemies are complete damage sponges and since they're normal enemies, they're not hard fights. So, I always found myself in easy, unengaging and long fights. however, the boss battles seem fine to me since they actually pose a challenge (sometimes).
AND DONT GET ME STARTED ON THAT STUPID GACHA MECHANIC! this game feels like its design to be a mobile game with the slow-paced progression and gacha mechanics.

The story feels like a first draft accompanied by plot holes and unanswered questions. I would like to over them, but I want this to be a spoiler free review. Admittedly I didn’t beat the game (because I couldn’t stand the combat anymore) so I watched the rest of the games cutscenes on YouTube so I might be missing something important story wise, but I doubt it since I was over 80% done.

To start, the protagonist (Rex) is actually the worst protagonist I have ever witness, he is a reckless baby that gets bailed out of trouble MULTIPLE TIMES by other cast members and instead of facing consequences or reflect on his behavior he gets rewarded by gaining more power to use in combat. Rex’s english voice acting is cringeworthy whenever he's in combat. it would've been nice if Rex's arc was about growing up and owning responsibility but nope, a baby biggening to end with no character arc whatsoever.
Two more nit-picks about Rex, in combat he’ll sometimes UNIRONICALLY say “We’ll beat them, with the power of friendship!” Like come on. Also type in “bad character design” on google and guess who’ll show up.
Nintendo must've thought they struck gold with that design considering its in Smash and BOTW.

I also want to talk about the female lead Pyra for a bit. All I have to say is that she has a personality of a cup of distilled water and she’s the biggest waifu bait I’ve ever seen in a game and judging by the amount of Pyra profile pictures I see on YouTube comments and live streams I can say those people took it hook, line, and sinker.
I won’t be talking about the over sexualization of women in this review but I what it to be known that because of it I can’t take the majority of the female cast seriously.

So, what do I think this game did right? Some of the locations are pretty (only on docked mode) (and only some locations because a lot of them are drab looking). The OST is a banger, there are some side characters I actually like aaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnd that’s it. Not to mention the numerous annoyances I decided to leave out. If you learned anything from this review hopefully it’s that you get the original instead.

It's tutorials are awful and endless, but what really killed it for me was the characters and story. I may have eventually enjoyed combat if I had stuck with it long enough, but I was unable to watch (or listen to) the horrid character designs that looked like they were made by a horny 13 year old and unable to listen to voice acting so bad I'm convinced someone got conned by the actors who did it.

As a usual fan of JRPGs, I was massively disappointed.

First of all... if you love this game and haven’t played the original on switch then I HIGHLY REQUEST you do because maybe you’ll be able to understand where I’m coming from. (This review won’t have story spoilers for the original game). To start, combat in this game is objectively worse, you can no longer identify which enemies are hostile or docile until you get close and see if they attack you or not. In the first game there was a symbol that told you so.
The game punishes you for moving around a enemy in combat as you can no longer auto attack while moving unlike the first game, making the combat feel sluggish.
The moves you manually use in XBC games are called “Arts”. In the first game you had 8+ different Arts and you can use them immediately at the start of any battle. In XBC2 you can only use three different Arts at a time and you can’t use them immediately until dozens of hours into the game so you can unlock the ability to do so, making the combat feel restricted.
Normal battles take WAY longer than the original and since the stat boosts from leveling up are not as impactful as the original, it makes the game more grindy and time consuming. So in short, the combat is more sluggish, restricted and grindy. The story feels like a first draft accompanied by plot holes and unanswered questions unlike the first game which tied everything together perfectly an satisfactorily. Admittedly I didn’t beat the game (because I couldn’t stand the combat anymore) so I watched the rest of the games cutscenes on YouTube so I might be missing something important story wise but I doubt it since I was over 80% done. To start, the protagonist (Rex) is awful, he is a reckless baby that gets bailed out of trouble MULTIPLE TIMES by other cast members and instead of facing consequences or reflect on his behavior he gets rewarded by gaining more power to use in combat unlike Shulk in XBC1 who takes great responsibility of his power and considers the consequences before using said power. Rex’s voice acting is cringeworthy whenever he lets out a battle cry and in one cutscene he was talking somewhat calmly but was flailing and panicking in the cutscene ALSO unlike Shulk who’s voice acting is AMAZING! Two more things about Rex, in combat he’ll sometimes UNIRONICALLY say “We’ll beat them, with the power of friendship!”. Also type in “bad character design” on google and guess who’ll show up. I also want to talk about the female lead Pyra. (Skip ahead a paragraph to avoid vague/minor spoilers) Moving onto the main villain of the game... he was supposed to be a “twist villain” but it was so predictable for me, and later on Rex and friends asks why he’s doing the things he’s doing he says something along the lines of bECaUse iM tHe bAD GuY cAuSE Im bORn BAd BecAuSE IM ThE BAD GUUUUUUUUUY!
The main villain in the first game was good because they actually had logic and reasoning to go with their plan rather than blind hatred. One of the other villains of the game is too edgy it hurts. Speaking of the same villain, He could’ve killed Rex and any other form of opposition in quick work but just chooses not to until it’s too late because he let Rex get too powerful.

In short, I don’t like the villains... and that also goes for a TON of the side characters. So what do I think this game did right? Some of the locations are pretty and jaw dropping (only on docked mode) (and only some locations because a lot of them are drab looking). The OST is a banger, there are some characters I actually like aaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnd that’s it. If you learned anything from this review hopefully it’s that you get the original instead.

-Field Skills suck and the kill the game's flow.
    -Mercenary missions are repetitive.
-Like the 1st one, most of the game's sidequests are fetch quests.
-Su much anti-Qol elements. For example, Merc Missions can be cleared only with in-game time, not real time. So, If you start an 15 minute mission, close the game with 10 minutes left and return to it 10 minutes later, You'll still have 10 minutes left. Seriously?
-Tutorials suck, they don't explain game mechanics well... and you cannot re-view them!
-Graphics are bad. Also, who thought giving different artist for different characters in a 3D game was a good idea? Characters feel imported from other games, they clash with each other and the rest of the game, making the game's style inconsistent. Same goes for NPCs.
-Portable mode is just... argh, my eyes are bleeding!!!
    -English voice acting is earbleeding.
    -Battle lines are repetitive.
-Too much irritating anime stereotypes, clichès and tropes that ruin the story.
-Character design sucks sh*t, especially Rex, Pyra and Mythra.
-Characters are stereotyped and unlikeable. I dislike the entire cast, especially Rex, Pyra and Mythra. I hate them with a burning passion!
-Excessive fanservice, like moments where the camera pans on Pyra and Mythra's bodies, even in serious moments. This is a game made by perverts for perverts! Disgusting!
-All of the forementioned story and character-related flaws make the game a cringefest.
The only good qualities of Xenoblade 2 are the music and the world's atmosphere, but those two aren't without flaws, too: for example, I hate the music you hear in the infamous Mythra sleepwalking scene.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is not only the worst game I've ever played on Switch, but also one of the worst games I've ever played in my entire life. I hate it with a burning passion, I regret buying it. Had I the chance, I would not onlt go back in time and avoid buying it, I'd try to delete it from existence!
I've played 1 and X too, and while I disliked them too 2 was leagues worser. To be honest, I realized I never actually liked Xenoblade games: other games or even watching stones are more entertaining than this smoking sh*t of franchise. At this point, I'll definitively skip 3 (and I'm glad I'm skipping it looks like some people are disliking this too). I think this franchise is overrated, as well their developer Monolith Soft (but not when they make other NIntendo games as I love BotW), and I think they should stop with Xenoblade and make something completely new and fun, not another niche garbage like Xenoblade.
In closure, I absolutely advise you to NOT BUY Xenoblade Chronicles 2. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!

To begin with, this is my first time playing a game in this franchies.- I've played final fantasy games, i've played tales games.- i've had every single nintendo / playstation console as well as played a lot of PC games. So an actual honest Review.

Now for starters. what you can expect. Story, It is excellent, nothing to say there.

Combat. Horrific. This game is like Runescape.- you can't even hit while walking you must remain still.- and let the fight play out, and then as you hit, you build up gauge, which you spend to use on special attacks "Arts" the worst part is, let's say 3 enemies front of you, you killed the first one? Bam.- your gauge is reset. it's pathetic really to kill 3x enemies where gauge resets every single time so you can't use your arts, and just have to watch your dude auto them super boring. I swear i felt asleep several times, but promised a friend to play it for the story, so i did.

Game Mechanics : You can jump, that's cool, but when you are climbing ladders, walls , you must wait as if it is a game belonging to the 90's you played zelda botw? fine you can jump while climbing. this is QoL update really, - they love to waste your time it's a game made december 2017, so i call it a 2018 game.- and they never heard of fast climb.

while you play. you get 99 notifications. and the game thinks you wish to read everything 24/7. the worst part is that, it doesn't just explain you tutorial, it talks to you as if you have an AI partner who wants to remind you of things. "Btw did you know" "Oh yeah you should totally do this" it's just waste of everyone's time.- like they type so much I fking forget daheck the hint was to begin with. So i'm like thanks for talking so much daheck were you saying again?

So yes.- this game, has a story, You will enjoy it, it's cool, characters are amazing. but seriously. when it comes to gameplay. it could fking use a huge upgrade.

This is my honest review, 0 % **** everyone who disagree's with me are just fanboys. except i'll accept if they enjoy the combat system. that's alright personal preference, but these clunky gameplay.- no way, you have to lie to admit that it's actually a good idea.

Time is limited, why should I waste my time on so many anti-human details? You can only summon one blade once and when you summon a blade, you have to see the blade shining several seconds. The main character is very naive and shallow, the Xenoblade Chronicles IP is ruined by the game.

The art style of this game makes me cringe and I felt like I needed to apologize to anyone who entered the room while I was playing it. They could have easily toned down the sexuality of the game without diminishing anything except the pervier humor elements (like characters ogling each other like they were about to start bleeding from the nose). If any of this felt necessary to the characters or their development, then I might be able to accept it but it is clearly just added as an uncomfortable sort of fan service.

The story is boring and predictable and involves several variations on the "cut scene fight where the good guys are getting dunked on, followed by them learning an important lesson about friendship/perseverance/sacrifice and winning" trope. Even for people who enjoy that trope, it is massively overdone. The game is also full of pointless side quests and time sinks to keep you playing the game even if you aren't actually making any complicated decisions or tactical choices. The combat has a little tactical depth, but you can't access most of the actual options until hours into the game as they slowly trickle mechanics to you. I played this game for over 80 hours and eventually realized I never enjoyed it and was just lured into continuing to play in order to complete it.

It is one of those games that I started off enjoying but by the end could not wait to finish. Once I got the hang of it I really enjoyed the combat system but the the average combat takes way to long and quickly become tedious.

The previous games had clear maps, ways of tracking side quests, plus achievements and the collepedia which made exploring these huge worlds fun and rewarding. I love fully completing RPG’s but in Xenoblade 2, I released after 40 hours or so playing that doing the side stuff is completely pointless, tedious and frustrating.

The main character is complete dud both personality wise and character design. The huge boobed Pyra and Bridget are just stupid looking and make you feel like your in some **** teenage boy’s fantasy. The villains are also dull except for the ok Jin. The plot is ridiculous even by JRPG standards and by the end I wanted them all to die, I like crazy plots being a big fan of Metal Gear but this games plot is just bucket loads of boring stupid nonsense.

I feel sorry for devopment crew as there really is a lot of stellar world and monster design in this game but I imagine most gamers will ignore the swathes of content to make a bee line for the ending. I was really looking forward to XB2 but it is really is a waste of your time as the directors juvenile vision and scripting have ruined what could of been a brilliant game.

The high reviews from critics and users are puzzling and I wonder if they really have only played 20 or 30 hours of this game. Early on I would of given this game 7 or 8. But the deeper you go the worse it gets. If after a full play through people genuinely enjoy this game well good for them but I cannot understand the love for this deeply flawed time suck of a game. I want those waisted hours back.

The first Xenoblade has been my all-time favourite game since I first played it many years ago. The artstyle left a bad taste in my mouth from the start but I let it slide in hopes that it would tell a good story. And after getting through every unbearable generic trope filled scene complete with abhorrent voice acting, I can say with complete sincerety that Xenoblade 2 is nothing but an insult to the whole Xeno series. The character design is all over the place which makes being imersed in the world near impossible, characters clash with the settings and eachother, and many of the characters are glaringly designed with only fanservice in mind. The voice acting is another thing that takes me out of it. Half the time they sound like they have no idea what emotion theyre supposed to be feeling. Even voice actors that I know are good, sound terrible in this game. And acting aside, the writing of the characters is so weak and boring I couldn't bring myself to aftually like any of them. Few have any substance beyond their given cliché trope, and whats there leaves much to be desired. The story is shallow and very poorly paced, and its unnecessarily convoluted to give a shoddy illusion of real depth. There is so much wasted time in almost every scene, even in key moments which totally ruins any emotional momentum that was built up. And speaking of ruining the moment, too often the choice of music (or complete lack of music) for an emotional or otherwise important scene would totally clash with what was going on. The soundtrack is one of the few things this game has going for it, and they still managed to ruin scenes with a poor choice in songs. The story is all over the place, the antagonists have shaky motivations--if you can even call them motivations--and it takes concepts that were very well done in the first game and turns them into a lifeless mockery. The main cast is nothing but your run of the mill dime-a-dozen anime cast with nothing particularly memorable about them. It was hard to find any reasom to want them to succeed except for the fact that as the heros of the story they're meant to. And to top it all off the ending gives you one of the dryest, most boring cutscenes of the whole game. It retcons the end of the first game, because the story of 2 can't fit into the canon as it is, further showing this game was a poorly planned cashgrab using the popularity of the series name. The end is unsatisfying, and leaves you feeling like you've accomplished nothing. Xenoblade 2 is a waste of time and a waste of money. Expand

With an overabundance of tropes, cliches, and a lack of character development, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is one of the biggest disappointments of the year. The story was boring, the gameplay is riddled with bad game design, and most of the characters stick to their overused archetypes like molecules. Do not waste your time with this disappointment of a game.

Exclusively Quicktime events ..... what I hate about it? you always have to gaze at the edge of the screen instead of being able to observe the wonderfully animated figures. the bad
the whole art system. they are all the same but just some variation in how they will do more damage. only rare are those that give the player the opportunity to heal. where are the aura? where are the basic art combo?
Blade switch system: because that thing is very ugly, and that all art are the same but for the break, topple, launch, smash and the 2 healing art, the only strategy is. spam all your offensive art from your first blade, when a miraculous break statue appear perform the topple, launch, smash then go back to the first blade to wait for the next break. some time do the special
level design: the level design of that title is terrible.
    the marked objective
the lake of depth into the Npc

    the ugly:
the AI: basically nia is a healer that never heal even if you give her 3 healing blade, your ally while never try to do intelligent basic thing like using their break art when it's ready.

the compass. the compass get me more lost then not following it. it so bad that some time it show that the objective is in front of you while in fact the objective is in back of you. I still don't understand how it work after 90 hours

the art system: why using 3 different blade while they all do the same thing and you have to count 3 hit before using an art? so actually my art is already ready to use after the third hit so just using the back slash equivalent is sufficient.

    the field Skill:
some time you swapped 1 blade and then loose 1 field skill that is needed during talking quest. that is very heretating.

The only reviews i found for this game before purchasing it were written by die hard fan boys how would gladly suck this games dick for days at a time if it possessed one calling it a "stunning master piece" while only really going into depth on the environments and nothing else. Speaking of which, the environments are needlessly big and that coupled with a way-point system that is vastly inferior to other such games more than a decade it's senior ( Ex. Borderlands 2) and if that weren't bad enough there is an area in one of the games maps that it totally inacessable unless you manage to fall down there and miraculously not die whivh i managed to do and i found just as filled with enemies as anywhere else and that moment was when it became clear to me that most of this games develpment was completely focused on its environment which explains the severe lack of polish the game so clearly suffers from. The combat system while i will admit is extremely satisfying (far more so than xenoblade Chronicles. X) most of the necessary combat mechanics are left up to figure out for themselves as the tutorials are just long and drawn-out bricks of text that: do a poor job explaining how battle is to be conducted efficiency, do not test out your understanding of said mechanic unlike many other games in the same genre (ex. Southpark: The stick of truth, Persona 5, etc), and unlike these games the tutorials are not rereadable AND on top of that the A.I. for both friends and foes is totally incompitant with me being able to sneak past many foes who were practically stairing me right in the face and with my healer barely doing her damn job. The voice acting is some of the worst i've ever heard in a video game with performaces ranging from mediocore to down right awful with the english script not being much better awkward-lines-a-plenty and the absolute butchering of even the most common of englsh phrases however there is a
free japanese voice pack that clears this problem right way. The story i'll admit is VASTLY superoir to that of the previous xenoblade instalment with the sound track along being leagues better as well as far less anoying with the sound actually being adjustable this time around. Another thing i'll give this game is the design of the games many blades with even the lower quality blades all feeling unique much like the plethera of guns in the Borderlands games and the higher quality blades all have very unique and creative designs, however even with all this in mind and the fact that i was just literal inches away from finally completing the story i couldn't stop myself from become fed up with the sheer wieght of this game's flaws (many of which i have not listed here due to the fact that i'd rather put this disappointment behind me as fast as i possibly can) which like many other games of its sort only grow worse and more apparent as the story progresses and promptly wiping every last trace of this abortion of a game from my switches harddrive including the save data as i have no intentions of ever returning to the world of alrest and if im being honest this game just seems like it was designed by pretentious art student who really just wanted to make an anime (which i would totally watch if they obtained better voice actors and a better translator).

Blades are basically like a cross between party members and equitable weapons. Your weapons come in the form of essentially 'spirits' which fight with you in combat. There are about 25 unique characters you can get, all with distinct personalities and storylines. The issue here is that except for the few you get as part of the main story, the process of acquisition of these characters is cancer. Rather than having awesome recruiting quests, finding these guys hidden throughout the world in awesome side quests... they are random drops from a consumable item. That's it. It's a gatcha system and the odds are not in your favor. It's ridiculous. They put what are essentially PARTY members behind these in-game loot boxes and it's absolutely awful. This alone would make me say that this game is unfinished garbage.

Blades have skills called Field Skills (like super strength and jumping really high). You might think, cool, that could change how I interact with the world! Wrong. All they are, are arbitrary skill requirements that act as keys for nodes throughout the world. Don't have some arbitrary skill at level 5 available? Too bad. It's just a way to arbitrarily lock you out without any real gameplay implications. Leveling these skills can also be a nightmare, depending on the blade. They are basically like HM's from Pokemon, except they have even less gameplay impact and you have to level them up. It's such a pointless and boring system that summarizes my opinion of this game: it lacks any kind of engaging or interesting gameplay outside of combat. It all boils down to grinding out these various "RPG" systems that have no real gameplay impact beyond resource acquisition and menu navigation. Missed opportunity doesn't even cover it. Field Skills shouldn't even be in the game.

This game has a myriad of stats and hundreds of trivial consumables that are just about worthless. You use those consumables through an asinine menu called the Pouch (which allows you to consume one consumable at a time for an hour). This system should be completely ignored, except for the fact that it's integral to character progression. Each character has favorite items, which are required to discover in order to progress certain abilities. The only way to figure this out is to GUESS their favorite item.

Quests are intensely uninteresting with about as much effort as basic MMO quests. Exploring the world is pointless. Despite being beautiful, it's filled with nothing. Since every single thing in this game is based off of RNG drops and lootbox systems, the most interesting thing you're going to find is a treasure chest with random loot in it. There is no meaningful way to explore the world (no skills that make navigating the world interesting as you progress). It's clear that this was what they attempted to do with Field Skills, but that's a complete failure. It's another open world game with nothing in it. The map is horrible for a 2D map and completely ridiculous for a 3D map. It in no way shows elevation or anything else you would expect in a game in 2017. The compass is wildly inaccurate. It's also filled with insanely high level trash mobs that make no sense and are completely ridiculous. I saw several level 70 bunny rabbits just hanging around outside the first town. Not only does this make exploring tedious, it also completely wrecks verisimilitude. You're telling me, I just killed this crazy "powerful" boss, but there is a bunny that can one shot me right outside?

Combat, while being over complicated, is very boring. Once you learn it, it's just the same combos/skill rotations every battle. No battle is different from any other battle. I never once, in 30 hours of gameplay, felt like I had to adjust tactically to the fight. It’s trivial, boring, and more about micro-managing your personal skills than actually engaging with an enemy or behaving tactically.

STORY: Story is hackneyed, cliché, tropy anime garbage. It’s pandering and cringy. From the really embarrassing character designs that just scream horny 14 year olds, to the fact that every character is as shallow as the character trope they inhabit, this story is just an embarrassing joke. I’m constantly rolling my eyes and I actively hate every character because of how pandering it is. There is nothing good about it. They didn’t even ATTEMPT to lip sync the characters to the English actors, either. Frankly, it’s one of the worst RPG stories with some of the most bogus hackneyed characters I’ve ever seen.

CONCLUSION: This is a generic JRPG, with pandering characters, overdesigned mechanics that lack any sort of tactical depth. It is filled with game design missteps and missed opportunities. It violates every concept of good game design and is overall a cancerous waste of time.

Ok let me explain where I'm coming from and why I gave this game such a low score. I'm a huge RPG fan and have played every major series from Baldur's Gate to Final Fantasy and Zelda series. I absolutely loved the new Zelda on Switch and enjoy most but not all JRPGs.
tl;dr: An exaggerated, boring overpriced RPG with ridiculous storyline and is absolutely not worth the pricetag

Storyline is very important to me, but graphics are not. I also believe that strong narrative and story progression as well as introduction of new game elements needs to be done right for the game to be successful and fun. It's in these last elements where XB2 fails miserably.

    Let's start with a story:
From the beginning up until where I am in the game now (about 50 hours in) it feels like it was written by a hormonal Japanese teenager with absolutely no understanding of human relations. The characters are bland, boring and plain weird. Lost in Translation kind of weird. This goes beyond some of the weirdest writing I've experience in some of the Final Fantasy games and is just way too distracting.
The characters don't help this either, they're way too overdramatic and extreme with some being absolutely unrealistic protagonists or antagonists. Nothing in the story really made sense so far and some of the "twists" are fundamentally dumb. Every little encounter ends with a Deus Ex Machina like solution that makes no sense whatsoever. "Oh so we are losing the battle and now suddenly one of us is going to uncover a hidden potential that nobody thought we have and basically defeat an overwhelming foe, that also didn't really appear that overwhelming from the get-go, oh and all of this in a 5 minute long cutscene"

Music and sound - too extreme and much too distracting. Having your character announce his every move in every single battle (with battles lasting up to 5 minutes) is just plain stupid.
Music is okay in some parts, but way too dramatic in parts where it shouldn't be. Very badly executed for the most part. I more or less play with sound completely off now.

Game elements and overall gameplay: this is where the game fails the most I think. Up until about 40-50 hours in the game, you are still "learning" - the game throws mandatory tutorials at you with some of the mechanics such as chain attacks that could have been learned from the onset in 2 minutes. As you walk through various levels, you'll find a huge mix of mobs from very underleveled to extremely overleveled that will one shot kill you all the time. There's no reason for such level design and it helps nothing in the game - it's just very poorly designed overall. The battles are way too long and even when battling monsters 10-20 levels below you, you'll waste time with monsters that always aggro you.

At this point, I'm only trying to finish the game because I paid the full price for it but I honestly deeply regret it and hope you don't make the same mistake. This game is absolutely not what many people make it out to be, I feel like we're just all stuck in the deep buyer's remorse and need to justify this pile of crap as something worthy.

Ok to be fair, I thought I'd mention a few things that this game does well too:
The world is large and varied, although there isn't much to do in it unfortunately other than walking and picking up occasional loot or battle monsters.
The battle mechanics are somewhat original and the variety of character builds is good.
The battles can be challenging and rewarding, but because they can also be super boring, it's usually more of the latter not so much of the former.
There is a lot of variety in terms of weapons and classes/skills, but this of course assumes you like the battle system.
There are a lot of monsters and various designs. Seeing such a variety of creatures is impressive. If only fighting them wasn't such a chore.

Overall this game to me feels like it's an early beta of an RPG that's trying to figure out the monster placement and the storyline. This is not worthy to be released as "top RPG on Switch" as some have claimed it was.

But it gets more and more frustrating the more I played. Keep in mind I did not finish this game, and I probably won't. I played up to chapter 6 and I pretty much had enough of the artificial limitations that was put in everywhere of the game. The random blade spawning is bs! The Affinity Chart is bs! Field Skills limitation is bs! The map and quest waypoint marker system sucks!
The blade spawning and Affinity Chart feels like they are taken from free-to-play games, maybe that was what Monolith was planning to do, where you can buy premium coins to get guaranteed rare blade crystals and affinity boosting items. But for whatever reason (maybe seeing the backlash at EA) they didn't implement that. So we're left with a system that was made tedious for the purpose of encouraging purchase but have no way of purchasing the premium items. I would rather they had the ball to put that into the game.
The field skill gates doesn't even make any sense, they gate the side quests, which should be giving you field skill points. I was doing a rare blade quest and it requires Botany lvl 7, who would have that by going through a normal playthrough?! On another side quest I need to talk to an NPC, it requires Girl's Talk lvl 3 WTF?! How is even talking gated behind the fking field skills.
So what I'm left if is just the main story, which was alright up to chapter 6. But now I'm stuck because all the enemies in the area I'm in suddenly became level 80 after a certain cutscene, so I need to either grind 20+ levels or stop playing. I think the choice is pretty easy.
Before I played this I saw many older posts also mentioned this game was disappointing, but I didn't think it's that bad. It's like all the new stuff they added to this game was made for monetization, but they didn't actually go through with it. I rather they just put in 30 unique blades in the entire game (no random blades) you grind money to get it, none of this lootbox stuff. No Affinity Chart at all, blade skills should be manually chosen by the player (using up experience points). No field skill requirements, that should be completely scrapped. I know this is probably not realistic as that would pretty much be remaking the entire game's progression system. So I'll probably never finish this game.

Fun to explore, battle system is highly subjective though having to stand still and autoattack is horrible, it basically has the gameplay as classic world of Warcraft for the 1st too many hours, to many phone game mechanics like having to wait real time with the game on to get some mission done, especially m I on that are mandatory for some Blade's quest line, and Blades are just a horrible gacha system that shouldn't have existed in the 1st place
Oh, also those blades tends to be cringe and really point towards a kid audience. There are some references to Xenosaga, that are ruined by some evil nopon action sketch, and this also RetCon the 1st Xenoblade, erasing one of the way you could read the game, so this horrible plot is just so bad that destroyed a good one even if they have in common only a single point.
Good game by per se, but it shouldn't have "Xeno" in the name while also being a work of Monolith soft.
Some improvements that were made in xenoblade X aren't in this game.
Good music from Mor Ardain onwards, bad voice acting and no, saying "just use the Japanese one" doesn't make it any better
Honestly, Torna is the only part worth playing, it sucks that to play it you have to own the mistake that is the main game so it automatically become not worth it.
Also the characters are so uninteresting that's almost impossible to empathize with them, even when you should. One of the protagonists is a pedophile, and there are pedophile jokes used at a funeral by another characters, that later scold someone for not paying respect to the dead. I don't understand how anyone would like this unless they are 612 yo circa and/or likes anime way too much, to the point when they don't even read or try to understand the plot, they just want to see the sketches that they have already seen in every slice of life anime ever

This is so bad it's good. Character interactions and combat dialogue are a joke and that's pretty much what the game is all about. Pretty sad if you ask me.

Quite possibly the worst 6 hours of an RPG I have ever played.
The English V.O is embarrassingly bad. It feels like each actor recorded their lines years apart from each other. The animation system makes every character suddenly jump into their walk animations. The on-boarding process just throws random gameplay elements at you without any rhyme or reason.

The characters are your basic pervy anime tropes, and if you are into lingering cameras on anime breasts, well do I have the game for you. The Christian symbology is so in your face, I'm embarrassed for the writers. "Child of Adam? Wow. Hacky writing.
To top it all off, they do not tell you how to save the game at any point while you are playing it. After twelve hours of playing this drek, my system updated and turned off, deleting all of my progress.
Truly, a horrific experience start to finish.
If you like a game with even a reasonable unique story, look elsewhere. Play Zelda for another near until something good comes out.

Unfinished game with a PENOUS graphic section in portable mode. I'm faithful to Nintendo but this time I've been totally disappointed because this is not his style. They had to supervise him and prevent him from going to the market like that, all because of the **** haste and putting him in for the Christmas campaign. Fatal, the second-hand market goes, with just 5 hours of play

PD: whoever I think I exaggerate or am a hater or a crazy graphics, just say that I tried Xenoblade 2 and at the time I had to put Skyrim and Breath of the Wild to compare results because my eyes hurt ... I advise you to all who do and judge you. My conclusion is that a game from the past gene like Skyrim should not look better or go more fluid ever, unless the Switch game has a bad job or is unfinished as is the case with Xenoblade 2.

I look at the characters face and they are emoting very strongly and I can just imagine what the japanese voice track would sound like, but that is not given as an option in the game. The story has interesting ideas in it, but the way it is presented is quite bad, with characters flying in to save the day at the last moment, having previously given no indication they could fly. the way it is presented is pure deus ex machina, before the first chapter starts. The environments are cluttered and busy right from the offset and came across quite overwhelming. there aren't even any artistic cues to help environment traversal. at one point there was a set of stairs that led to the objective but because of the angle and the colour of them, they looked just like one of the crates that littered the area. This is a small subset of numerous issues.

The game is bad. so bad it is shocking.

The music ranges from generic music that grates on the ears after a few hours to some good tracks but mostly generic JRPG music.
The graphics are blurry, it cant keep a constant resolution always changing every few seconds which gets annoying really fast, the game looks best on the small switch screen(not the oled model, there the blur is way more noticable).
The "localization" is bad, not Fire Emblem Fates level of bad but still bad, they changed many texts, names and stuff from the original japanese, some people don't mind but i prefer an experience that is as close as possible to the way the devs/writers originally intended, playing with Japanese voices gets rid of the horrible british accents that plague the characters and voices that absolutely dont fit the characters(Rex especially) but the texts don't line up with what is actually being said a lot of times which is frustrating in itself.
The game is grindy as **** some people like it but for me it's too much.

Get the game for 30 or less if you are interested, it's not worth even a cent more than that

Cutscenes and character designs are cringe weeb s**t, gameplay consists of approximately 5000 convoluted systems that fail to interlock in any meaningful way, writing and voice acting are absolutely horrendous, and the game berates you with dumb tutorials every five minutes for ten hours plus. I really liked Xenoblade DE, but this is borderline unplayable.

Story is mildly interesting, but nothing is interesting enough to make me invest so much time in such boring activities to move it forward. Open-World RPGs have evolved but Monolith Soft seems to have lived in a cave the last decade.

If you are into MMORPGs then buy it by all means, you will find more than 250 hours of repetitive grinding, farming and blindly search for resources in gigantic environments here.

If you value your time though, stay clear from this one.

The combat sysem is automatic where you only combo specials together. I walk away whenever a fight starts and let the game play itself. You need to switch characters often in the middle of a fight, and thats not an option. There in combat menu! You are actively punshed for not partcipating in mini games. The cut scenes are far longer than ive ever played even in other multi hundred hour rpgs averageing at least 20 minuets. If you think you will like this game because you are a jrpg fan or even a xenoblade fan, BEG you to reconsider. I wish i could finish the story right now, but i can't play for 30 minuets because the game is punishing me for doing too much main story content! Expand

    The Bad
The gameplay though, urrgh too slow and sloppy for my taste. Too much timewasters in missions and and battle systems is super slow and not intuitive until later on, but even then, after everything is unlocked, it still feels too slow. Maybe the battle system is just not for me, I like either relaxing old school like Dragon Quest or super real time adrenaline like YS series.

Maps and navigation are terrible, If you want to see whole area's map, you have to press X and wait for awhile before it loads and it gets annoying. If you want to see the map while moving, you can only have a partial map loaded, and for the small map, it's too small that it's useless.

I give up playing after halfway slog and just watch other people play on youtube for the sake of finishing the stories. One of my regrets on buying a hype game without further research first.

Only play this if you got a lot of free time to get through the very slow battle system in my opinion even though is is real time.

Short summary: short boy with tight ass cheeks travels with boobgoddess to garden Eden and catches some more sexgoddesses on his way.
    - character design: ridiculously bigger boobs than headsize, even though anime characters already have a bigger head than human standard. Literally ever female character carries 2 melons on herself. It looked physically ridiculous and was irritating to me.

0 For my taste Rex got a strange unappealing character design. I did not want to see his ass cheeks in this tight suit 70% of the time. He also looks like a child, which makes it more disturbing.
0 Xenoblade is the new "pokemon" for erotic half naked anime girls (rated this 0, because it is personal taste and interest, I think).
    - feti**ization of a child robot "poppy" and (maybe?) Rex too. Her primary function is being cute in a sexy "cutie-bun-bun" costume to her master, which she says herself in a conversation. Her introduction was also in a sexualized manner as the "slutty maid".
+ long gameplay, around 10 chapters.
+ The story is interesting and has some eastereggs from the Xeno-Saga, like KOS-MOS or the Zohar, which is why I will probably play the game till the end of the story.
    - combat is the most frustrating part here for me. It is repetitive and relatively to the level difference slow. Fighting a single lvl 17 enemy with lvl 24? Nah this takes a while. Also the auto-combat reminds me of those afkleveling mobile games. This shouldn't be a thing to beginn with. The so called "complex" fighting system, aka blade combos and chain attacks, don't improve the boring auto-attacking. The main issue is the lack of dynamic in the combat, as it has a constant slow fighting speed like a watermill. I was sleeping with half of my brain at every fight.
    - through the story the main characters will repeat the same annoying battle voices again and again.
    - Sometimes there is terrible voice acting (AAAAAAIYAH), Rex sounds like a race car at his battle cry lmao. I couln't stand the english voice acting, it sounded forced and childish (which is fine for 6 year olds playing the game).
    - talking to most npcs, which do not give a quest or are not part of the story, is irrelevant and does not give anything positive to it, most of the time not even interesting lore. Why would the devs give this option to begin with? I also could'nt skip boring dialogues. Usually people are given the option to speedup dialogue speed, but not in this game (?)

I loved the Xenosaga series and Xenoblade 1 was a masterpiece. Thought I might give this game a try because it got KOS-MOS in it, but after Xenoblade 1 this is definitely a 180° turn the wrong way.

One of the few aspects in which it stands out is in the soundtrack and the world design, which are very varied and interesting.
Still, I don't think it's worth wasting so much time in this game just to entertain yourself a bit at the end, especially when the first installment fulfills all these sections in a better way.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I didn't like this game for one reason; it's not Xenoblade Chronicles. it says it's a sequel to the first, but it isn't. It doesn't have any of the characters as the first, nor does it have the same location, story, or even main weapon! The battle system was hard to adapt to from the first game to the second, also. If this was a standalone game, it would've been great, but it's not. Overall, it was just disappointing, and if you want this game because you liked the first and want more, I beg of you, please don't. It will just disappoint. Expand

It has a terrible way of balancing difficulty... In normal is hard, and in easy isn't fun... And even in easy there're moments that became too hard.
There are too many roadblocks and some secondary missions are impossible until you finish the main story... And not even finishing it, makes you viable in ending a mission.
You also need a bit of luck... So if the games can't balance the gameplay properly, why you should play it?!... It also need a lot of time to barely finish the main story or get in the good parts...
Play anything else, and you can even COMPLETE games before you finish the main story of this bad game.

I'm very disappointed with XB2. While it has good music, that's about all it has going for it. Rex doesn't really grow throughout the plot, relying too heavily on his teammates for everything he encounters. When something important happens, he's either shouting or yelling. Additionally, one of the biggest flaws of this game is that the motivation of the opposing faction is very unclear.

A fight with an ordinary enemy whose level is slightly higher can drag on for minutes, especially if you’re fighting it alone. The combat itself is also rife with problems: sometimes main character even fails to draw his weapon, or locks onto a far-off enemy, while another already is eviscerating him in close combat.
