I’ll start by saying most the early user reviews are the same Nintendo haters who lurk on all new releases waiting for user reviews to open. This review is NOT that case or is it a nintendo fanboy it’s simply a RPG and JRPG fan review. Also to add this game isn’t a 10 for me but it’s very close.. please read for an explanation.

In my opinion this improves on most things over the original besides potentially the plot itself. That is not to say the plot is trash like half the games out there as it’s actuallt really engaging. The world you explore alone is a massive achievement as it feels like a living, breathing ecosystem sometimes. The graphics quality probably sit between the wii u and an actual “next gen” game that you would see on a PS4. That’s not to say the game isn’t beautiful in its own right because it really is and besides some minor rough areas I think it’s pretty darn suitable for a game like this. I personally really enjoy xenoblade combat and it sets perfectly between turn based and fluid so it never feels as casual as action systems like the most recent final fantasy does to some. The game also rewards players who enjoy complex skill tuning and building their character the exact way they want or simply pick what works and continue. There is enough variety in weapons, items enemies and stats that it’s almost mind boggling at times. The characters themselves are pretty well thought out overall and I don’t want to add spoilers but there was a couple that really annoyed me at times and it did kinda ruin a fraction of their cutscenes. I’m not sure I even really need to mention content and value for money but I am going to for the sake of it... THIS GAME IS HUGE! and I don’t only mean optional side stuff but the actual main storyline itself is multiple times bigger then so many games these days. I have not completed this game yet but I received a copy early and I am approximately 35 hours in intentionally avoiding side content so I can focus on what the actual regular playthroughs quality is. I have to say that it’s a really top notch game that somehow after hours and hours has never felt like a chore or too repetitive. This may happen once you’ve finished the story and are trying to 100% (good luck) but the fun and value you get from the main game alone is amazing

Ok so this game has some cons for me which mostly consist of minor frustrations BUT they did occasionally impact my experience. Firstly the game has some technical issues from the 5 hours I played in handheld including minor frame drops, texture issues and rare freezing. Thankfully these issues can probably mostly be patched if they care enough. Secondly like previous games the quest markers and descriptions can be insanely vague which can result in some un needed wandering and frustrations (original had this issue but some argued it promoted exploring). Ok and finally.... this is NOT a negative for me but I feel critics and users are complaining about this and that’s the “anime” style and facial features. To me personally who isn’t a hardcore anime fan (I’ve enjoyed a few) I actually didn’t mind and I found the facial features showed some good emotion and expressions sometimes. The rest of what I have heard like Japanese cliche moments is nothing new in 90% of jrpgs and possibly will never change besides a select few.

OK, so that is my review! My actual score for this game so far is around a 9/10 and might head towards a personal 9.2-9.3 as I’ve heard there is more improvements later. I am giving this a 10 on here (as I do with some other games) to balance out all the troll reviews as it does NOT deserve a 0-6 in my eyes even if you hate the genre you could appreciate stuff.

It's not a 10 because some characters are generic, while it has a nice combat style, it's not the best for me, and I hate the clumsy animations when they're talking in a cutscene, they're like robots, the only good thing about that is I don't look all the time to them, cause I'm busy reading the subtitles. (Oh, also the English dub is, in most of cases, de-sync and pure trash. You'll probably need to download the Japanese voice patch from the eShop)

    Score/Nota: 10/10(GAME OF THE YEAR 2017)

A couple of weeks ago I received a code with the final version of the game, to embark on this odyssey and I must say that it has exceeded all my expectations in an incredible way, to such a point at the moment I started reading the first reviews perplexed to see the cons that said "experts" had seen.

The world of Alrest is immense, beautiful, but above all alive, with landscapes and depth never seen in any game of the Switch, with countless secrets to discover and tons of things to do. I do not want to put much emphasis on your story so as not to spoil anyone, i will simply say that it is by far, far and away the best story that you will find at present in any game of this platform, which is roughly epic, emotional, full of twists well thought out and with doses of comedy that will make our long, very long adventure very bearable. With Nier Automata, they have the 2 best scripts of the year.

Much of this feat goes hand in hand with a great cast of memorable characters, those that remain engraved in our hearts. Congratulations for the guys at Monolith Soft in this regard. Another section to highlight individually because of its greatness is the soundtrack, which stands with the best prize of the year and I would say, superior to the Wii delivery. In the same way, this conglomerate of aspects would not work without a gameplay to match, in which, like its predecessors, it enjoys an exquisite fluidity and dynamism, with a degree of complexity to the height which is to be appreciated.

To finish, I want to close with the technical section that is sublime in TV mode, being the portable mode its flank side, but they are forgetting that we are not facing an small game, much less, it is a Xenoblade, for which the frames and popping slumps very few are forgiven.

In conclusion, we are facing the game of the year without a doubt; a colossal adventure that would be recorded in many, masterful in all its sections and with secondary content to the height and in amounts to bore.

Congratulations to Nintendo and especially to Monolith for the game of the year. 10/10

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Acquisition of your blades is locked to a gatcha style randomized system meaning building a meaningful party setup as you play is all but impossible without massive amounts of grinding. Many areas and sidequests in the game are gated behind field skills tied to blades, and as blade acquisition is totally RNG, your ability to progress is heavily determined by your luck, or willingness to grind. Some of these field skill gates are in the middle or end of a side quest meaning you can potentially waste hours on content you can't actually finish yet.

Xenoblade II is still well worth a look if you can stomach it's glaring problems, but the further I've gotten into the game, the less I find myself wanting to pick it back up.

Now on to what changed my mind - boring, bad designed combat! Its basicall just same combat system as the one in Final Fantasy 12. You run around, and the combat pretty much is getting done by it self. Im usually not even looking on the screen, because it really doesnt matter in most of fights, they are either to easy or just imposibble to win. Oftenly they also piss me off with stupid crap - example:
Im on lvl 10, fight with couple of lvl 5 bunnies (hitting them with ridiculously big swords obviously made from cardboard because 1 hit takes 5 lvl lower than me rabbit 5% of its health so the fight drags on forever) and then out of nowhere flies a bird or runs some gorilla on lvl 78 (!?) and one shot kills me. FUN...not... really wtf.
I was hyped, after reading so much praise about the combat system, but really its bad for me atm. You cant just git gud when enemies oneshot you out of nowhere, and its not like I could run away either, because even when I try they will kill me from mile away.

Ill update this when I finish the game, but hell, this game doesnt deserve 10.
And for this stupid Tora character which I really start to hate with all my heart and this dumb infantile "mememe" or what the hell hes yelling all the time when fighting I would rate this even lower, but the game is actually good.

I was a fan of the first XBC, I never finished it cos it was wayyyyyy too long for me but the time I spent with the game was fun. XBC2 however seems to throw away most of what XBC was about. The world is still gorgeous but a lot less polished. The combat is still MMO-ish but you have a lot less to do in combat and a lot more useless mechanics. The story is, so far, run-of-the-mill Shounen **** Go here, do 3-4 fetch quests, watch a cutscene, do 3-4 more fetch quests, and I'm talking about main story quests, not optional side quests.

Lets add some examples so people reading this can decide if this game is for them or not.
I died around 30-40 times to roaming flying mobs that are higher level than me. The initial area has around 5 of them, with another area off the side where you have another 4. You puling mobs cos they look interesting and you wanna fight them? A flying mobs joins and kills you. You grind to become strong enough to kill it? You get the mob low and another on of the **** joins in.
Like, seriously, who is the idiot who designed the enemies in that world? I'm at the point where I don't want to explore because every area has 5 of these **** killing whenever I try to engage anything. It's like the game doesn't know if it wants me to explore the beautiful world they built, or it wants to **** me over for **** and giggles.

Story is boring so far, I'm around 12 hours in, it might get interesting but I doubt it. The main protagonist is a blank slate nice guy with no personality and an annoying voice. Pyra, the second protagonist is more interesting and better voiced but her design makes her impossible to take seriously. She looks like she not only doesn't belong to the world but was also designed by a 13 year old boy who wanted to make Tron porn. E.g. at night she glows, which makes her fake looking huge boobs shine with green neon lights. I have no idea who designed her, he obviously never saw boobs in his life, or why he decided that this is the feature he wants to emphasize, but whatever.

Lastly, the game's combat is, for the most part, boring. You need to time your skills to see the shining blue ring (still don't know what it does) and you need to combine skills for elemental trees (which is arguably the best part of combat) and you need to use skills to make enemies drop potions(?!?!?!?!) but the whole thing only comes together in boss fight where you have the time to build up combo chains. The usual combat isn't just a grindfest, it's a boring grindfest where you wait for icons to fill up. Also, did I mention you have 3 skills per character? Yup, you have 3 skills. 3 on each blade but the transition between blades is on cooldown as well. So you just wait...

Some of the griped I have with the game are not design flaws but issues that can be patched out (like the **** enemy placement) but a lot of it is part of the way the game was built. They want you to grind and they want you to wait and they don't want you to have any fun.
I'll try and finish it so I can get my money's worth but I don't recommend others play this.

The character designs present range from extremely bland and forgetabble to extremely try hard at "moe". The voice acting is atrocious, do not play it in English at all, use the Japanese voices, and the repetitiveness of the voice clips is grating. The combat is a real mess of useless combat functions, QTEs and needlessly padding itself out to appear more complex than it actually is. The battles take extremely long too, far more longer than they need to and it makes getting through battles a complete slog where you're just wailing down the enemy sponges while watching autobattle play out. You can't even move when doing autobattle either which makes it even more restrictive. The combat is also very slow compared to the two previous Xenoblade games.

The graphics are vastly worse than Xenoblade X on the Wii U, which is odd considering the Switch is more powerful than the Wii U, and it takes an even bigger hit when on undocked mode, a blurry pixelated mess with FPS issues across the board.

The use of different artists doing the character designs creates a huge inconsistency design wise, as everything looks like a mismatched hodpodge of characters like they belong to different games. It's utterly jarring, and the overuse of pervy anime tropes got eye roll worthy real quick.

An immersive story-driven experience unlike any other, complemented by a vast multitude of engaging side content. My only criticism would be the inability of Rex's voice actor to cry or scream, however it takes little away from the experience overall. A worthy successor to the masterpiece that was Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii.

Well I have never played Xenoblade Chronicles 1, but I came onto metacritic only to read some of the user reviews for this game (IGIVE IT A CHANCE! YOU WON'T REGRET IT! I am typically a pc and ps4 gamer, but I do own a switch to play some essentials like your big ticket nintendo games, also because my girlfriend will actually play the switch with me unlike the other systems :). Well I have never played Xenoblade Chronicles 1, but I came onto metacritic only to read some of the user reviews for this game (I wanted a new switch game). I took a chance on it without expecting too much and knowing I would possibly be disappointed.

I WAS SO WRONG. Here are the main reasons why.

1.) The game is gorgeous. Don't take this with a grain of salt, yes it is a switch game, yes it doesn't look like the graphics are much to brag about at all. Plain and simple the creators deserve immense credit. The world truly feels alive, and this is the first game where I felt like using a camera application in game to take pictures of the world. The character models are pretty old school, but the attention to detail is there and the characters are still fleshed out so well it's not something that hinders the game.

2.) Story: Well I am about 45 hours into the game and I love it. The world and its history and politics and the conflicts that the world is facing are definitely interesting. The concept of drivers and blades is interesting and how it impacts combat is fantastic for games. So far the story has been emotional and engrossing yet also not predictable which is the key to really making a story that sticks. Great twists!

3.) Combat: At first I was worried, I won't lie. It seemed boring, but as the game progressed I learned that the combat had SO MUCH MORE going on than I thought. They slowly give you more and more until there are so many aspects of combat you're lost in and so many working systems that create a level of depth in the game that is addicting. Rolling for blades is fun as hell.

4.)Sound -- Soundtrack is fantastic, compositions are beautiful and varied for the different lands. My roommate comments on the soundtrack every time I'm playing. The voice acting is also fantastic, I can only say this for the English version of the game (the only one I've tried) One gripe I do have is that during battle time, the lines said by characters do get overused and I wish they would have taken out a lot of it and just let the battle music in the forefront.

Some final tidbits that I think deem comments.
-The difficulty of the game is also at a great level, your typical jrpg feel. Get to a tough part, theres ample things to do to get stronger and then ya hit it again.
-I do wish they had a better tips and info system, the system they have where you buy tips from vendors is stupid especially in a game with this much content and systems to use.

Overall an amazing game: not without a couple gripes. But it is by far one of the best games I've played this year and one of the best rpgs I've played ever. If you're a jrpg fan.. DIVE IN

However, great symphony’s can provide exquisite masterpieces while masking and blanketing the flaws in the artist’s craftsmanship. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 offers several unique elements that shape it into a great masterpiece. While Xenoblade Chronicles 2 does have a few flaws, these flaws get buried under the cohesive gameplay elements that Xenoblade offers.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has a beautiful story that provides several plot twists. However, I would be doing injustice by spoiling any major story points. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has an amazing cast of characters that support the lead character Rex. Each character has different backgrounds however, despite these different backgrounds each character still stands out as unique and well developed. Additionally, watching several of these characters interact with each other provides humorous moments that never feel forced. The well-developed interactions with each character makes the audience care about the growth of each character. Each well rounded character rallies around the main character Rex while additionally, each supporting character has the same motive. These motives involve helping Rex get to Elysium in hopes that the “dying world” can be saved. Rex embarks on his quest to Elysium based off a promise he made with his Blade Pyra. The hero, Rex, faces several trials against enemies from Torna who generally overwhelm Rex. To overcome these enemies Rex must seek the “power to protect.” However, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has several additional themes that touch the audience. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 tells a story about the virtues of teamwork, love, beautiful memories, and the importance of friendship. The great characters and important virtuous themes allow Monolith Soft to string together an excellent story. This structurally hitched story creates a rollercoaster of emotions that correctly toys with the audience’s emotions. Unfortunately, some emotional scenes get completely ruined by poorly executed voice acting (I’ll go into detail about this later).
In terms of gameplay Xenoblade Chronicles 2 offers several hours of content. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 took the great gameplay components of the original Xenoblade Chronicles while additionally, adding different components. The introduction of blades allows the player to constantly mix and match different blades. Blades come in the form of core crystals. Additionally, players have access to rare blades which have special abilities that cannot be obtained from normal blades. However, obtaining rare blades come from a ridiculous chance of luck. For each core crystal is completely randomized (kinda sucks you can burn through several core crystals without a single rare blade). You can also dispatch blades on mercenary missions. These missions give you experience, gold, special items, and raise your mercenary groups ranking which allows you take on additional missions. These missions also help level up weaker blades which can then help you on your main mission. Additionally, you can upgrade your characters affinity through side quests. Side quests were featured in the original Xenoblade Chronicles and throughout the series. Side quests can grant you experience, gold, and SP which allows the player to upgrade the affinity of the main characters. Additionally, the player can upgrade blades and characters with certain key items. With the number of customization's, the player has tons of freedom customizing each character.
The voice acting. The biggest flaw in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Most of the time the voice acting never bothered me. However, I generally found myself hating Rex’s voice acting on emotional scenes. This truly bothers me especially when making direct comparisons to the original Xenoblade Chronicles voice actors. The voice acting in Xenoblade Chronicles packed emotion and dynamic flare. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 however, went backwards in voice acting. I will not go into greater detail about the voice acting (due to the character limit) however, the poor voice acting does carry over into combat (mainly the Ardanian Soldiers).
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has several plot, memorable soundtracks, and gameplay features that make it a great game. However, the game does have a few minor flaws. So why does this game deserve a 10/10? I found myself devoting 86~87 hours while completing a fair amount of side quests. However, I never found myself wanting to put my Nintendo Switch away. Instead I continued to play and progress throughout the story wanting to continue to watch the characters grow. I enjoyed Xenoblade Chronicles 2 from start to end. Being a PC gamer, I found it hard to justify spending $60 on a brand-new game. However, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is worth every penny. I bought the special edition with the art book which cost $82. It was worth it. It's a great game.

The story is fantastic! it has such depth in it and definitely kept me coming back, you learn a lot about the characters as they come and go, there is plenty of unexpected twists with some unexpected comical moments, the world is massive, albeit linear in terms of progression it's not big a deal, you can fast travel whenever and where ever you like throughout the story so you can take a break and go salvaging to develop your rating with the cities you've visited or catch up on side quests or see further blade development and then revisit the story where you left of at a later date, the freedom is great and exactly what I wanted, no restrictions on having to do the story at certain points.
Let's talk about what I disliked... the combat system... it works but it's not that fun, after time it's just tedious and long, you can get from A-B in a few mins, but the battles in between can pad that travel time in excess of an hour if you take on all encounters, consumables aren't really clear.. lots of options but not a clear direction on which is ideally best.
The menu system is atrocious, too many buttons to press to get to where you want and the navigation can be frustrating, too many menus within menus.
Obtaining blades is so RNG it's ridiculous... rare cores don't guarantee a rare blade.... legendary cores don't guarantee one either... infact I got 0 rare blades from 3 legendary rolls, most of my blades came from common cores.
You can feel at times that game reaches it's technical limitations when visiting towns with high density of polygons and effects, the game's fps starts to slow and you notice it, not a big deal but worth mentioning.
Side quests are just fetch quests and a lot of back and fourth, the chain quests were annoying sending you to fetch and kill stuff all over the world several times over, there's no depth there.

I completed the game with 81 hours on the clock, I rushed the last 2 chapters because I just got bored of it, the games system started to be a grind and it didn't feel fun, the story became weird as like in a lot of JRPG's towards the end.. I did expect this but it disengaged me more than I anticipated. For me it felt like they tried to cram a lot of ideas into the game but a lot of the areas needed more refinement, it started to feel more like quantity over quality... when that feeling kicks in it I lose interest in the title.
I did stick it out, I enjoyed my time in the game, would I recommend it ? yes! is it perfect.. definitely not. This could be my first and last Xenoblade purchase.

At the heart of this game is a story that's not afraid to be exaggerated, over-the-top ridiculous at times(often just for the sake of it!), but still manages to tell an emotional tale of a young boy discovering truths about the world around him and what it means to really be alive and grow up in a world full of evils.

In terms of gameplay, the game, (namely combat) is a lot to take in, while all the same, presenting itself as overly simplistic and unengaging during the early parts of the game. This wasn't the case for me at all however. The game did a decent job at easing me into the world that i was thrown into and it gave me a lot of time to play around with the mechanics and evolve my own experience of the combat. Now sitting at 368 hours with the game, I am continuing to experiment blade and equipment loadouts for the fun of it, and I still have quite a few sidequests to do, and I just don't want to stop. The world of this game is beautiful, I love the characters, the sound design, the art, I just love this game so much.

There are definitely a few things that could frustrate players though, such as the unintuitive map and objective markers, and RNG gacha systems of core crystals, but if you're completely fine with making do with what you can get, taking things at a slow and steady pace, instead of trying to collect ALL the rare blades and 100%'ing the game as quickly as possible, I think this game will be a much better experience for you. As someone who plays the game exactly like this, I can say for sure I am in love with this game despite its flaws; definitely one of the best games I've played in my life and my definitive game of the year for 2017.

    - Some of the more advanced combat mechanics are not detailed at all.
    - Drop rates on the Rare Blades could probably do with a bit of a buff.

The combat system is deep and takes time to master, while the rest of the gameplay is monotonous walking. Every single chapter is phenomenal, but each chapter has at least one terrible moment. There is so much good, but all that good comes with something terrible. However the good is so darn good and the story goes from an interesting, but relatively forgettable story to an insanely intricate political war by the end of the 8th chapter. The story was so carefully designed, and while the still animation is less than appealing, the fight cut scenes are a wonderful sight to see. If you are willing to go through a few tedious, frustrating moments, this game opens up in an incredible fashion. Expand

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a satisfying sequel to a great series. The deep story, immersive combat and charming characters make this franchise stand out like no other. Between the Empire of Mor Ardain and the Kingdom of Tantal, I found myself rocking out to one amazing theme song after another.

A quick warning, this game is more like the original Xenoblade Chronicles than it’s predecessor Xenoblade Chronicles X, which is to say it is more linear and story focused. That could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your preference. Like the first game, the rich landscapes offered in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 take place on the backs of giant Titans. The combat is also similar to the first game with break-topple abilities but improves upon it by adding a status bar that runs down so you can time your attacks with more efficiency, and the combos are just so satisfying to pull off between your teammates. Expect to put anywhere from 100 to 200 hours into this game.

Bottom line: In a year where Nintendo released Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the final piece of the triforce that capped off a great 2017 for the Switch. If you enjoyed the previous entries in this series, you owe it to yourself to play this wonderful game.

The bad: Let's just get this out of the way. There has only been 2 flaws I've had with this game, and luckily if you are playing this game in 2018 or beyond, there is a very safe simple solution.

The map / directions in this game are absurdly vague. I caught myself wandering around the map trying to get to the key point for a quest for sometimes 60min+. There's no reason for the game to be so vague about where to go or how to get there. Perhaps set mini-check points to help guide me up a secret path? But that complaint was easily dealt with by hopping online and checking where to go. Is it cheating? Sure. But the game can be otherwise very annoying if you let this one particular thing plague your session.

The other bad thing about this game is how much there is to learn. I made it a good 70 hours into the game before I really started to understand two things that made the game infinitely easier.

Thing 1: Learn the Break -> Topple -> Launch -> Smash combos. Figure out which blades can do them, and abuse them. Make sure you are either in a level 1 or level 2 phase of an elemental combo and you'll do bonus damage with the Topple->Launch->Smash abilities.

The Smash piece, during a level 1 or 2 elemental combo phase does very high damage that I simply didn't understand until much later. Required tech to know? Not really, but does it make the game MUCH faster and easier? Absolutely. They teach you it once and then never really come back to it. Always look for ways to pull off this combo. I usually have the main character equipped with blades that can handle the Topple->Launch->Smash part and have my teammates set up with plenty of weapon/skill combos that have Break and Topple to get the combo started often.

Next is chain attack. I don't know why, but I sort of ignored this mechanic through most of my play-through. It wasn't until I watched a video about the game's mechanics that I really understood ...

You can pump up chain attack damage+crit ... to unbelievable numbers. Going from hitting for 2-5k damage to hitting for 900k damage is ... big? And it turns out ... if you KILL the opponent with the chain attack and enter the overkill mode ... you get BONUS loot, exp and skill points depending on how much you overkilled the enemy by.

Chain attacks make enemies/bosses that have an 'explode' like mechanic trivial. You can generally kill most bosses (if you are set to do bonus chain damage) with 1-2 orbs available at almost any stage of the fight. I'm at the end game and every fight my goal is to finish 1-2 elemental combos to build orbs (make sure they end with different elements) orbs and then just go into my chain attack as soon as possible. Or if I'm really greedy I can ALMOST kill the boss/enemy and then pop the chain at the end for maximum overkill.

Either way ... these two, easily overlooked, mechanics make combat 100% more interesting and interactive. Also speeds up combat by a lot to just be able to end a fight after doing only 30-50% of the boss's life. And if you beef up chain attacks? You are looking at being able to 1 shot most things in the game with no orbs.

    ====

Game mechanics aside. This game is wonderful. The characters are awesome, I personally enjoyed all the voice overs (during combat can get annoying), and you never really get the sense that you cannot die, which I often get in other games if I take a little time to power level.

The side quests are fun, discovering new blades is pretty cool (i wish I had them all unlocked but farming cores isn't too bad later on) ... the first 40 hours I would have said this game was a 7/10. Then I started to understand the mechanics more, combat sped up as a result and I started to really get into the story. Not that the story was bad up til this point, but it was hard to get into the game when combat was going so slow (I was just spamming abilities til stuff died).

The last 70 hours have been pure, enjoyable addiction.

The main issue with the game is the early game combat, when special moves are limited, some fights can take an age but that's just an early game issue which I personally don't have an issue with, the player shouldn't always be so powerful that they easily defeat everything.
The random nature of getting blades can be a negative too, there is so much content connected to the blades themselves that unless you are particularly dedicated, will never get to see.
Overall, I personally believe the negative aspects of the game for some, are positive aspects. It isn't a game for everyone, but it's a perfect masterpiece for me.

I'm sure if you're reading reviews you have probably already read all the good things about the game and want to look at the cons.
If I were to try and list all the cons of the game I would say:

The English voice acting isn't perfect and the lip syncing is just way off, I personally never really had much of a problem with it but if it sounds like something you don't like don't worry, there is free dlc on the Nintendo e-shop which can change the language (including the original Japanese) and you can keep English subtitles. Also all the voices in the English voice option are from the Uk.

Sometimes after you fast travel it can take a minute for some of the textures to load in, minor but I feel like it should be said.

There are skills on blades called field skills where you can affect things out of battle on the massive open world the game has to offer. My complaint with this is that in one section of the game it is required to have some of these unlocked on your blade to progress the story.

For some people they might not be able to get past the slow beginning when It comes to the combat but trust me when I say that it gets REALLY GOOD later on.

The game is massive and some might think that there's too much to do at once and get overwhelmed.

One blade in particular is so hard to get and you have a really low chance of getting it. (People who played the game know who I'm talking about).

These are really the only real issues some might have with the game in my opinion.

If this is your first JRPG XB2 is kind in the middle of the scale for your first experience, otherwise you'll enjoy it very much.
Depending on how many side quests and grinding to level up you want to take the game may last you from 80 to more than 120 hours.

The game presents you tons of mechanics to learn at least the first 10-15 hours that are built on top of others. This allows you to play the game in many different ways. You can either grind a lot and buff your team purely leveling up, you can master the chain attacks, you can use a lot of items or ignore them, get experience from battles and/or quests, find all the secrets of the world, and a long etc.

You're the hero in a land where humans, blades and titans live peacefully. Humanity lives in giant titans, but the titans are starting to die. The hero sets his journey to Elysium, searching for a way to help humanity survive. Along the way you meet lots of characters, some of them even join you on your quest.

Some titans are bigger than others, the environments are varied and most of them have very challenging areas to move. Some titans have unbalanced zones where you can fight against level 10-20 monsters and then catch the attention of a level 90 monster that knocks you in one hit. That is annoying but not a game breaker because each time you're knocked down you appear in a nearby point and lose very little time to reach the same spot.

You have blade partners, each blade have a role (fighter, healer, tank) and have a kind of weapon (sword, hammer, ball, katana, etc.). You can switch blades in battle to chain special attacks.
There are unique monsters that are much tougher to take down than the regular ones. To kill some of those or some of the bosses you need to level up and grind a lot. There are a couple of times where you need to grind even more than usual to conquer some bosses, delaying the story.

The music is amazing, it sets the mood just perfect on the different places and environments. The game is packed with cut-scenes that tell most of the story. While the English voice acting is great, the animations are a little under-performing and the lip sink fails now and then.

The game runs fine most of the time, the framerate has its drops specially at the biggest and most packed places but it's not a game breaker. The drawing distance for some NPCs is weird. The visuals are much better when docked, the resolution drop is noticeable when in portable mode.

As every JRPG you need to have patience and grind a lot. I loved the story and the game lasted me more than 120 hours with lots of things still to do (leveling, quests and unique monsters). This game had me hooked and I enjoyed a lot my time with the game. You don't need to have played Xenoblade Chronicles 1 to enjoy this game, it's not a sequel and you will learn what links both games near the end.
Very few games touched like this one and the end even made me shed a tear. I really recommend this game. Is one of the best Switch exclusives.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Damn.

    One of my favourite games.

Xenoblade 2 introduced me to the franchise and it made me stay.

The main characters are the best cast I’ve seen.

The only issue I can see with Rex is relatability (seriously, who here grew up in a village, worked from 10 years old giving to his family, and has three blade wives?), other than that, a character you may not like, but respect his actions.

Pyra and Mythra’s arcs are great and show mental health and depression in a new light. Their designs aren’t as bad as everyone says they are (their Smash designs are better though). Maybe if you hate Rex, look from Pyra and Mythra’s perspective, rather than your own.

Actually, Pyra and Mythra’s true form, Pneuma, fixes a lot of the design issues that Pyra and Mythra had. Pneuma is best girl.

The other characters like Nia, Poppi, and Zeke are super enjoyable to watch.

Malos is epic. Man literally has ‘Chad’ energy and it feels acceptable here. Jin also has a good arc, remembering his driver and not wanting to forget and die.

The side quests and extra blades are… strange? Maybe because they were designed by completely different people.

The Torna DLC provides insight to why Mythra and Jin are the way they are.

Xenoblade 2 is great, and I’m tired to pretending it’s not.

    Also, Dunkey is mid.

Xenoblade is a JRPG fan's JRPG. There's so much to do in the game with a very deep lore and storytelling as simple or complicates as you want it to be. Went into this game with no prior experience to Xenoblade, just thought the special edition box looked awesome so I bought it. Turned out to be one of my favorite games on switch so far. My favorite game on the switch. I love the characters, and the combat is very in-depth and addicting. You will easily get more than 50 hours of gameplay. Worth every dollar.

This game is amazing! Anyone who liked the first game will surely enjoy this game! Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has one of the best stories I have ever heard from any form of entertainment. As I just said the story is amazing but the combat is really solid too. There are tons of different move-sets for you to equip so it never gets boring. This game also has an amazing soundtrack. There isn’t a single song in the game that is bad. The great songs in this game add a lot to the cutscenes. The only problems I have with this game is that the characters lips don’t match up exactly to what you hear because they didn’t change the face animations on the characters to be in English. Another thing is that the tutorials in the game suck so maybe watch a tutorial on YouTube but those are the only problems and they are very small problems. To wrap up my thoughts I would just like to say that this game is incredible and you can really tell how much time and effort the developers put into this wonderful game. Thank you for taking time to read this. This is one of my favorite games of all time! Expand

One of my favorite RPG games in switch. I also bought the expansion pack, which is very worthy due to its ample content.

This game, to me, it's a 9/10 only for two minor problems.
The first one is the combat system. It feel empty and bland, you can only press 5 button to make an attack after an auto-attack and that spetial attack has to reload and you have to wait 6-15 auto-attack to be able to re use it and ,unlike xenoblade chronicles x, you don't have the liberty to move while you're attacking and your

The second little probleme is some affinity charts for some blades. Those are really rare ocations like Perun or Dagas but still a little anoing because you have to make good action wich is a very ambigus hint or a special quest wich is not bothering when you're on the post game but when you're first rare blade is dagas it can get a little frustrating to make.
But overall the game has a very deep and intresting story. It has some funny and emotional moments wich makes you connect with the characters. The world is pretty big and vast to explorate every mistery and compltete some intresting side quests. Not to forget the amazin personalaty of the principal charaters like Zeke, Morag or even Rex. throug the story you can see the evolution of those characters and undestand them by their back story. Plus the principal characters are not the only ones who got a personality. Every blade has it's own personality and the game let you intercat with them so you can know better about them and increase your affinity like Electra wich is a crybaby.
I'm looking fordward fo Xenoblade Chronicles 3 hopping that they fix those little issues and the story would be as amazing as this one.

In my opinion, this is the strongest Xenoblade Chronicles game. Everything from the Characters to the OST are such big improvements that it's hard for me to give this game anything but praise. The game does have it's fair share of issues, I will admit that, but I'm willing to overlook those flaws for the simple fact this is just a good game.

A incredible game with flaws. I'll start of by saying that I would give this game a 9.7 but metacritic doesn't have points and I think 9 is more fair. There are some cringe worthy cutscenes that are few and far between but exist. The voice acting isn't as horrible as people say but it isn't great with some roles mainly rex being awful but some such as malos being excellent. The game is incredibly slow to start and can be pretty boring combat wise for the first 33% of the main story. This game is a incredible buy if you are willing to go through a rough patch at the start. Overall a excellent game with problems. Expand

A fight with an ordinary enemy whose level is slightly higher can drag on for minutes, especially if you’re fighting it alone. The combat itself is also rife with problems: sometimes main character even fails to draw his weapon, or locks onto a far-off enemy, while another already is eviscerating him in close combat. Despite some rough patches, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a worthy addition to any Switch owner's library, especially if you have a predilection for RPGs and enjoyed either of the previous entries in the series. [Issue #32 – March/April 2018, p. 75]

Extensive and massive JRPG. Although with a rather cliché story and characters, it comes with a beautiful world and a fighting system growing more and more complex with every hour played. [Issue#282]
