The world design, in particular is mediocre, however the world presentation is amazing, what Nintendo is at fault here is the lack of reason to explore and also the poor script in the story as it goes on which evidently makes you not care anymore. Along with a titans worth of miscellaneous crap that will likely be over looked, this only proves that Nintendo doesn't quite have the formula down, at least for this game. Expand

By miles, this game is the best game for Switch, and no, that isn't a contrarian Breath of the Wild hater's opinion. Where BotW won out in visuals, this game had everything else. It hit every cord so perfectly in terms of world structure, story, combat, pacing, difficulty, and pretty much everything else.

The world, though not as visually stunning or free as Breath of the Wild's feels more polished and more tailored to what I want, where the monsters, loot, and quests are organized exactly how they should be across the map to make it interesting and make exploration exciting. Certain areas are walled off until you hit certain milestones in terms of blade development providing constant reason to care to go back and explore zones which you've previously been.

The combat, which is the best part of the game despite what critics might have tried to convince you, is easy to learn, but with incredible depth that rewards you not only in increased damage output for learning and getting good at it, but also in loot. If you do well and work hard to do well, you get better and more items providing a constant motivation to not just mash buttons. This system kept me interested through to the last moments to take every fight seriously.

The blade system, which is essentially a pokemon/booster pack opening system whereby you find certain blades in the world/story or find certain cores (booster packs) which you open with a random chance of getting something good, is fantastic. The RNG is perfectly structured where you can't just farm cores and get them all early on, but where it gets more difficult as you're getting down to your last few and pretty much requires you to wait for the cores you get later in the game. There is NO pay to win here, no loot-boxes where there could have been, just a system designed to make the game more fun, and they truly succeeded.

To address the most controversial portion of the game, the design of women and female blades, all I have to say is recognize this game was made in Japan and that video games remain to be a far more widely-held male hobby. Add 15 points to the critics' score and 1.0 point to the use score and we'd be at a more honest place discounting political nonsense spilling into video games. Then we're at a 98 for critics and 9.4 for users, the disparities from a perfect score for critics stemming from an admitted time commitment and learning curve in figuring out the combat system and for users in not liking hard games.

Also, if you need further verification that this game was scored unjustly for political motivations, look up some videos of the voice acting, hear how great it is, then look up reviews. Critics seriously scored lower for the game because they exclusively used European accents rather than a more diverse collection of accents, quality of the voice acting not even addressed.

But back to the regular review stuff, the story is incredibly thought-out and expansive; not just save the world from Ganondorf but understand the world and why you are destined to fight him in various forms for all eternity level stuff. The characters are unique and likable, their individual plots and motivations enjoyable. Mechanics wise though, my only objection would be that one spoiler unnamed character should have been a different class so as to make all the characters and team selections equally viable.

Looking forward to the expansion this fall, and though I already have the season pass, this game is so good, a big irrational part of me wants to buy the physical copy of the expansion I already have a digital copy of just to contribute to the developers.

10/10 will play several more 100+ hour play-throughs again in my life.

My initial reaction upon starting the game was that the graphics are pretty blurry compared to other big titles on the Switch. This problem becomes especially noticeable in handheld mode.

The story is what you'd expect from a JRPG, and it definitely picks up later on. The voice acting was interesting to say the least, I downloaded the Japanese voice pack DLC and played with that for the most part. Really the only strong points that I found were the music and story, which is disappointing for a game as hyped as this.

There is about 50 hours of gameplay packed into this game, or 36 if you subtract the 14 hours of cutscenes. There's a lot of content in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, some of which is interesting and may help to distract you from the long and grueling combat. The combat system isn't as bad as people say, a couple of short YouTube tutorials will set you on the right path. The actual length of the combat itself is the problem, many of the enemies feel as if you are fighting a tank. Usually, when I play an RPG I like to explore every part of the dungeon and defeat all the enemies. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was probably the first game I decided not to do this. Eventually, it became a hilarious game of "how fast can I sprint past these enemies to get to the next cutscene?"

I will give credit though, a lot of games tend to drag out the ending with useless stuff but Xenoblade Chronicles 2 did not do this and the pacing was very good. Overall, I give Xenoblade Chronicles a 6/10.

Next, I need to talk about the story. Absolutely amazing, and isn’t afraid to deal with dark subjects such as death, depression, and loneliness. I was astonished at the surprisingly great voice acting in English, and Japanese. For some reason, I felt like I had to play it in Dub, as the Japanese didn’t seem right to me. The blades in this game, which are the Pokémon aspects, looked good, and terrible. This game, as a blind purchase was amazing. You may see reviews talking about how the combat is sluggish, or how enemies can aggro onto you from a mile away, but, even though I experienced that once or twice, I still had a fun time with the game. The characters are so charming, and likable, I couldn’t pick best girl or boy. Maybe the best girl in my opinion is ((Partial Spoilers)) Mythra, and best boy is Zeke, or the Zekenator. I wish the game was longer, even though it took me 150 hours to beat it. No major complaints here, but this game is very niche. If you don’t like JRPG’s, massive boobs, or combat that takes a while to get good, then don’t buy this. I’m okay with JRPG’s, and I was so surprised at how much I loved this. Another wish is that I want Nintendo to bring Xenoblade Chronicles X to switch. Have a wonderful day, reader.

In short, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is one of the best games I have ever played. This game is pretty much the main reason why I bought a Switch, and honestly, I am not disappointed at all. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 with its over 70 hour long campaign, delivers a solid and deep combat system with an engaging story, full of lovable characters, paired with excellent music and visuals.

The combat system is unlike anything I've played before. I did try a bit of the first Xenoblade via emulation, but due to issues, I could only play a few hours of it. Nevertheless, the complex combat system of Xenoblade 2 feels great to play overall. Chaining together Specials to form Blade Combos, and sealing enemies' attacks, before breaking all those seals and unleashing a massive amount of punishment on them always felt satisfying to do throughout the game. But even outside of combat, things are really engaging. There are tons of ways in which you can modify your blades, as well as your party members, which kept me tinkering with menus for a long time, trying to find the best setup I could come up with.

The story is something I really got hooked on after playing for a while. There is always something to keep you on your toes and await the next cutscene or mission, be it lore or present events, but the end is where Xenoblade 2 really shines. This game has a wonderful ending, which I admittedly teared up on not once, but twice. The curiosity of what lies in Elysium always kept pushing me forward, while I gradually grew closer and closer to the characters.

Finally, the audiovisual aspects. They can be simply stunning sometimes. I'm not the one for ambient music, but this game might have made me a fan. Be it grand, and powerful, or sad and melancholic, the music always hit a pleasant spot for me. The tracks with vocals are just simply amazing, and it really feels like a lot of effort has been put into the music. As for the visuals, they are absolutely beautiful. Scale plays a huge role here. Seeing the Titan you're on move its head or wings around with you walking on it just felt amazing to witness. Xenoblade 2 also likes to switch up its locations quite variably, which is a great thing. No two areas are remotely the same, their people as well as their structures are distinct to the point where you can recognize an in game nation just by their looks and style alone.

My only real gripes with the game were the really slow and sloppy start and the gacha system. Once the story and the gameplay got going, I got sucked in, but before that, I was a bit unsure to keep playing or not. I glad I did though. As for the gacha, while it does vary up how you go through the game (with the random drops and all) I felt like the game should have been more generous with the drop rates for Rare Blades or just rarer Core Crystals. I did like how all of the rare blades have their own flushed out histories and personalities, though. Additionally, the inn system is something that I was kind of confused about. The bonus EXP you get is just way too much, and I'd advise players who are planning on picking this up to just ignore the inns and the bonus EXP, because it is super easy to overlevel yourself with it, and that's never a fun thing.

Overall, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is an outstanding game. A lot of people brush it off just because of its Japanese style, or slow starts, but it really, REALLY pays off in the end. It has so much content, polish, and love put into every one of its aspects. If you really do love JRPGs, this is a must. If you get through its slow start, you'll find one of the best gaming experiences you can ever witness on the Nintendo Switch.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I want to start out by saying that this game has a fair amount of problems, and that I would not recommend this to everyone. That said, this is the perfect game for me.

THE game has a deep and interesting STORY. I particularly loved the main blades', Morag's and Jin's stories, as they develop from just "bad" or "good" guys, to people you care for and have sympathy for, as they were all put in difficult situations they didn't know what to do about. I also love how the story introduces a little comedy whenever the game goes too deep in on a topic such as the meaning of life, morality, the death of loved ones etc. as this keeps the game from becoming depressing, but still allows the game to develop a deep and interesting story that shows that the developers cared about the player.

THE COMBAT in this game was also great, albeit not introduced in the best way (the game uses a LOT of text prompts, and doesn't give you the option to re- read about a feature you have already been explained once before). I especially liked how the game allows you to have your very own combat style, being able to choose (as long as you grind a bit) exactly what blades you want to use, with the choice of in total six different types of tanks, healers and attack blades. I, myself loved how the game lets you exploit canceling the auto attack of pyra/ mythra, to instead allow you to recharge your arts super fast, rather than doing a bit more damage. The elemental attacks and combos, their ability to seal away enemy attacks, combined with chain attacks, all while the combat is in real time, makes each combat encounter an expertly crafted strategy game, while keeping the pace of combat quite high. The enemies' abilities to have different attack styles, just like yourself, and adapt to your attack style makes each combat encounter feel slightly different, and keeps combat fun through the entire game (although I could see how it might feel a bit grindy, as this keeps each battle going for longer, and you'll be in combat a LOT).

SIDE QUESTS, however, get VERY grindy, and are not too original or too fun to play through if you are not a total completionist (like me). However, I still enjoyed the grind a lot, and loved levelling up blades and feeling the pure satisfaction of every affinity chart I finished (what can I say, the combat is just fun enough, and the stories in some cases justified the grind).

Lastly, this game has BY FAR the BEST SOUNDTRACK I have ever heard in any game that I have played (but then, again, I haven't played that many other games compared to most people). The environments are also extremely beautiful, and that's enough said.

    I love xenoblade games. So why a 7? Well, I'm a realistic person, I don't rate everything a 10 just because I like it.

Xenoblade 2 is a great game with a lot of rough edges. The most difficult part is the English voiceover. The main character "Rex" has the most embarrassing fake yelling I've ever heard. I have no idea how the director didn't storm into the booth, slap him in the face and when he yells "ow" tell him, good, now yell like that. He isn't the only one who gives a lackluster performance, "Gramps" the dragon looking creature and animal familiar of the party is just some old guy who reads his lines in a voice. That is it.

The game's graphics are honestly really good, but like breath of the wild, probably pushes the graphics to the limits of the console. I wish I could have lowered some settings to get fewer frame drops in some cases. I would love to see this game on PC for this reason, so I could max out the settings and see it in its full beauty.

Storywise this game is quite compelling thankfully, so it can make up for some of the poor acting. Not much else to be said without major spoilers.

The depth of the RPG elements is what will make you want to play or not want to play this game. If you like complexity, you will enjoy this. If you want a simple straightforward system, you might want to skip this. It has lots of stuff that you will probably forget about.

In terms of characters, the catcha system is what KILLS the game's fun. You have to open silly little crystals to get new characters to use, and getting good ones is almost impossible. Worse still, each one is bound the party member you open it on. This means you might open a great tank character on your healer party member. It feels bad. Only Rex, the main character is able to use any character you open, which you won't want to do anyhow, because he by default has the objectively best character anyhow.

Getting over that slog, the ability to chain together elements and combo into huge amounts of damage is even more satisfying than xenoblade 1's chain attacks which were already fun to pull off at the right time. The combat early on may seem slow and boring, but that is to give you time to warm into it, which is good for players who aren't deep RPG players. Once you get a full loadout and party, you will find yourself being mindful in hard fights of when to change, attack, and use combos. With the right line up you can create some really powerful and engrossing parties.

In the end, I was sad that it ended, and sadly this is one of those games with no post game content like the old days where you load back to the last save before you beat the game. But considering this game was such an early title for the console I can forgive that along with the already large amount of content.

The gameplay though, urrgh too slow and sloppy for my taste. Too much timewasters in missions and and battle systems is super slow and not intuitive until later on, but even then, after everything is unlocked, it still feels too slow. Maybe the battle system is just not for me, I like either relaxing old school like Dragon Quest or super real time adrenaline like YS series.

Maps and navigation are terrible, If you want to see whole area's map, you have to press X and wait for awhile before it loads and it gets annoying. If you want to see the map while moving, you can only have a partial map loaded, and for the small map, it's too small that it's useless.

I give up playing after halfway slog and just watch other people play on youtube for the sake of finishing the stories. One of my regrets on buying a hype game without further research first.

Only play this if you got a lot of free time to get through the very slow battle system in my opinion even though is is real time.

Short summary: short boy with tight ass cheeks travels with boobgoddess to garden Eden and catches some more sexgoddesses on his way.
    - character design: ridiculously bigger boobs than headsize, even though anime characters already have a bigger head than human standard. Literally ever female character carries 2 melons on herself. It looked physically ridiculous and was irritating to me.

0 For my taste Rex got a strange unappealing character design. I did not want to see his ass cheeks in this tight suit 70% of the time. He also looks like a child, which makes it more disturbing.
0 Xenoblade is the new "pokemon" for erotic half naked anime girls (rated this 0, because it is personal taste and interest, I think).
    - feti**ization of a child robot "poppy" and (maybe?) Rex too. Her primary function is being cute in a sexy "cutie-bun-bun" costume to her master, which she says herself in a conversation. Her introduction was also in a sexualized manner as the "slutty maid".
+ long gameplay, around 10 chapters.
+ The story is interesting and has some eastereggs from the Xeno-Saga, like KOS-MOS or the Zohar, which is why I will probably play the game till the end of the story.
    - combat is the most frustrating part here for me. It is repetitive and relatively to the level difference slow. Fighting a single lvl 17 enemy with lvl 24? Nah this takes a while. Also the auto-combat reminds me of those afkleveling mobile games. This shouldn't be a thing to beginn with. The so called "complex" fighting system, aka blade combos and chain attacks, don't improve the boring auto-attacking. The main issue is the lack of dynamic in the combat, as it has a constant slow fighting speed like a watermill. I was sleeping with half of my brain at every fight.
    - through the story the main characters will repeat the same annoying battle voices again and again.
    - Sometimes there is terrible voice acting (AAAAAAIYAH), Rex sounds like a race car at his battle cry lmao. I couln't stand the english voice acting, it sounded forced and childish (which is fine for 6 year olds playing the game).
    - talking to most npcs, which do not give a quest or are not part of the story, is irrelevant and does not give anything positive to it, most of the time not even interesting lore. Why would the devs give this option to begin with? I also could'nt skip boring dialogues. Usually people are given the option to speedup dialogue speed, but not in this game (?)

I loved the Xenosaga series and Xenoblade 1 was a masterpiece. Thought I might give this game a try because it got KOS-MOS in it, but after Xenoblade 1 this is definitely a 180° turn the wrong way.

    here are the cons:
    - helpful tips that teach you how to fight and interact with the game are displayed once only, you don't have access to a menu to check if you are stuck later or need a reminder, you have to look it up on google.
    - enemies will detect/fight you unless you are 10 levels higher, it makes exploring sucks.
    - fighting system is too complicated, refined but complicated. (remember, no HELP menu)
    - [[[[ Ursula's side quest, you send her on missions to collect 99 pieces of each three different key items, these missions range from 1 through 5, mission 1 gives you 1 piece of key item, mission 2 gives you 1 piece key item, missions 3 and 4 gives 2 key items , mission 5 gives 3 key item ,,,,, WHY?!!! why doesn't mission 5 give 5! (Ursula isn't even worth it! she's a nightmare to completionists and a proof of developers being bullies!) ]]]]
    - Tiger! Tiger! , a mean mini game.
    - some of the requirements to increase a skill are displayed as question marks [??????] the game won't tell me how and no NPC will tell me what do they want! google everything.
    - no guide to tell you what collectable are where and nothing to keep record of what you collected and what not, just walk in the dark, if an NPC asks you to collect something, go to every region in the game and hope you find it soon by chance, or google it.
    - the menu controls are all over the place, I finished the game and still not used to it.

I said I would give XC2 a 9 if the above mentioned problems are not present in the game, that's because some problems can't be fixed,
    - music tracks and sound editing in this game is not good. (a region named Tantal has the most intense music ever (day music) it's like you are facing the last boss), (some environmental sounds are just annoying and not immersive (Spirit Crucible Elpys), (sound effects when summoning a blade).
    - voice acting is not the best, weird accents and sometimes it's hard to understand what the pronounced word is (the game Ni No Kuni had different accents but was amazing).

that's the cons, now let's do the pros:
    - Vast open world to explore (like the first game but better because treasure chests and secret areas)
    - Great detailed world building, you would know how this world came to be when you finish the game.
    - blades are designed by different game designers, cool designs (except Nim).
    - Nopons are hilarious in this game more that the first game, especially their dialogue in side quests.
    - the Gacha system is fun in this game.

Great sequel to Xenoblade 1, it was big shoes to fill and Monolith delivered. The story has a slow start, but is compelling overall with fantastic concluding chapters. The only complaint I'll list here is the English voice acting of Rex. He has a pleasant speaking voice, but could not show emotion at all. This caused some powerful scenes to fall flat which was tragic.

One of the few aspects in which it stands out is in the soundtrack and the world design, which are very varied and interesting.

It doesn't have any of the characters as the first, nor does it have the same location, story, or even main weapon! The battle system was hard to adapt to from the first game to the second, also. After 150 hours of gameplay, I figured it's time to write a review for Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

Sadly, XC2's story failed to amaze me. It was a good emotional ride; there were goosebumps here and there but there was nothing that made me think that the story is exceptional. The pace was not good in my opinion, and the overall tone of the game is a bit inconsistent with the narrative.

The world was very good, but it's not as good as the world of XC1 which was incredible.

Most of the characters have enough quirks to be memorable... but I didn't appreciate the anime character archetypes that were a bit too cheesy at times.

I don't like Rex as much as I like Shulk from XC1. To me, Rex is a stale, typical Shonen protagonist fighting against the odds with the power of friendship, recklessness, stubbornness, naivety, and optimism. There is a sweet spot in every character that lies between ideal and flawed. Rex is a character more skewed towards the former, which I didn't like simply because I couldn't connect with his struggle. His struggles were only ever fleshed out whenever the "boy meets girl" theme comes into place. I loved how Shulk reacted to the things around him the same way me and other people normally would; Rex lacked that authenticity. Also... Shulk's growth with the monado is incorporated in the gameplay which I think is very cool.

I love the music! I really hated the background music for two locations but aside from that, the music in this game are EARGASMIC.

The gameplay is nice. I just hate the grind because some of my experience with it are ridiculous... jump from a high point, jump 6,000 times, walk a lot. What the heck, game? Can't you think of something else to do? (I grinded hours to unlocked all blades, except for the ones you can get from new game plus.)

Overall, I think the game is mediocre because of the emotional but average Shonen story and the main character BUT...
The sheer amount of work put into this game is amazing. There is a ton of side content in the base game, and I am looking forward to playing the DLC. If you love JRPGs, you should not miss this one. It's great, but it's far from being a masterpiece. I don't hate the game, I was just a tad disappointed with the main character, the grind, and the story; the most important RPG elements to me... I felt like they could've been executed a lot better.

I thought the English dub was horrible in general... but Japanese voice DLC fixed it for me, at least there's that.

It has a terrible way of balancing difficulty... In normal is hard, and in easy isn't fun... And even in easy there're moments that became too hard.
There are too many roadblocks and some secondary missions are impossible until you finish the main story... And not even finishing it, makes you viable in ending a mission.
You also need a bit of luck... So if the games can't balance the gameplay properly, why you should play it?!... It also need a lot of time to barely finish the main story or get in the good parts...

This game is a shame in so many ways that is hard to say. The storyline is childish. The story is **** The gameplay is confusing. I don't know what the hell happened from the frist game, which is a masterpiece. But I would feel ashamed if I was the director of this.

I'm still glad I got to the end though, it's conclusion impactful and beautiful in a way, retroactively improving the first Chronicles game, which I love. Has its issues but if you can sit down for a 60 hour game and get past the bad moments, there is something truly enjoyable here.

Also this game has the worst tutorial of all time, I'd recommend Chuggaaconroy's "Everything I wish I knew about Xenoblade Chronicles 2" guide video as it clears up a ton of stuff the tutorial utterly fails to properly explain.

I'm very disappointed with XB2. While it has good music, that's about all it has going for it. Rex doesn't really grow throughout the plot, relying too heavily on his teammates for everything he encounters. When something important happens, he's either shouting or yelling. Additionally, one of the biggest flaws of this game is that the motivation of the opposing faction is very unclear.

    -GAMEPLAY-
    PROS.
    -Sistema de combate complejo.
    -Historia interesante.
    -Una exploración inmensa.
-Variedad de estrategias para derrotar un enemigo.
    Contras.
-Bajones de FPS en modo portátil.
-El protagonista en ocasiones lo quieres ahorcar.
-Misiones secundarias poco interesantes o repetitivas.

    - To find items required for a quest you have run around and guess where they are
    - Level grind level grind level grind; as soon as the 2nd chapter starts, you have to grind from level 15 to level 35 to progress further. Why???
    - Only one save slot. Why?
    - Random blades -> lootbox mechanics bad. Get the same blade 6 times? Yes. Exactly what I want to see in a game (no it's not).
    - Most battles are boring because you're either level above so you kill the foes easily or the foes are level above so you run away which is not fun. When the level is close or the same then it's not boring but it happens rarely

Overall the two biggest problems are: poor tech (blurry, stutter) and level grind. Both need to be solved for this game to be even considered remotely good. Perhaps SwitchPro will fix the tech side but it's too late anyway for a 2017 game. It should be good when it's released and not 4 years later. Level grind is awful, it needs to go away. From all games, not from just this one!

I loved Xenoblade 1 and Xenoblade X but this game is overwhelming. If there was a player's guide, it would be the size of an encyclopedia. There are too many options, too many items, too many things to upgrade, too many menus to manage.

Even watching the battles is overwhelming. You control one character, who has a partner character ("Blade"), and you're on a team with two other people who also have partners. Often the people you are battling also have these partners. It's a mess to watch.

Each of these characters and each of these partner Blades have items/weapons you can equip, with skill trees that you upgrade.

You don't just get those items from beating enemies or doing quests. After you get them from enemies or quests, you have to find spots around the map, press the buttons right on time, and dig up materials that activate the items you can equip. To dig up materials, you have to buy a kind of digging license. You can sell excess materials at a specific shop, but there's no real way to remember which materials are important.

You can upgrade your skill trees by simply playing the game, or you can do discrete tasks like "go talk to people" or "collect and use this kind of potion."

You can also use multiple "Blades" in the same battle, and there are more Blades than you can realistically manage. You get them in a kind of lottery system that is similar to micro-transaction RPGs (which does NOT cost real money, just in-game items). One goal is to get "rare" blades rather than throwaway, weaker blades. The lottery is another dimension to the game that no one really understands.

There is a lot more - quests, where you collect items or talk to characters or go places or kill things, then Mercenary Quests where you deploy your blades for 10-45 minutes at a time and can't use them, pouch items that give you temporary upgrades, and I'm sure I'm forgetting like five things!

    =NO EXPLANATIONS=
I have no idea how much all of this effort actually has on playing the game, because the game is so overwhelming that no player really understands what they're doing. Is this weapon better than the other? Is this skill more worthwhile? It's often too complicated to figure out. When I look something up on google, I see contradictory answers in the same thread. That means people who think they know how to play and are giving advice don't actually know.

This is because the game RARELY EXPLAINS what is happening or how to play. In the first ten or so hours of the game, you're bombarded with new systems, and the tutorials don't really give you a baseline understanding of what you're doing. Even some of the terms have really similar names. A skill with a Smash effect has a particular effect on enemies, but many skills are called "Quick Smash" etc without having the Smash effect. There are Blade Arts and Blade Combos and Arts Combos and I can't remember which is which.

    =MISSTEPS=
What's strange is that the game is lacking in a few basic areas. You can't control the rest of your party (much different than previous Xenoblade games) and their AI is stupid. They will, for example, walk off a cliff and die in the middle of a battle. When enemies drop items, sometimes the items will fall off a cliff or fall onto a spot that you can't jump to because you're still fighting. The map is a total mess, and the great little arrow from Xenoblade 1 is replaced with a kind of countdown radar that I regularly get lost with. The big map when you hit X is also really bad. It's very small and has no real detail on it.

    =FUN=
Despite all this, I like the game! It's fun, I like watching the numbers go up and pretending I know what I'm doing. I play it on Normal and it's actually not that hard! My characters die with some regularity, but it's not often frustrating. I would say among the Xenoblade games, this is my least favorite. It seems to ignore a lot of the steps forward in playability that Xenoblade X took (e.g. the quest menu and map is worse now), and the story is very awkward, dull, and cringeworthy.

If you have nothing to do during, say, a pandemic, and nowhere to go, you could easily lose yourself inside this game. You could probably play this for 4 hours a day for years. I am baffled that there is DLC because there is so much to do. I don't know what they would add.

I also love how there are so many small things which wouldn't be necessary for a game but make it feel more lively. For example all dialogues from NPCs changed after it came out that the chairman was doing shady businesses behind everyones back.
The humor is also really great and I didn't skip a single cutscene which is a first for me.

The lip syncing is also non existent which kinda breaks the immersion but isn't too much of a problem and the game doesn't do a very good job at explaining things a lot of the time, as well as the waypoint which is pretty bad at directing you on where to go. Most of them utilize turn-based combat, which is something I almost always really don't like, but even when they don't, I find them to be too weird for my taste. But Xenoblade Chronicles is one of the few JRPG franchises that I love, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is no exception.

The story of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is great, as it includes a very memorable cast of characters and many interesting and shocking plot elements. If you were disappointed with the story of Xenoblade Chronicles X, don't worry, this game has a story that is leagues better than the previous one. Though, it does get off to a very rough start, as the first 2 chapters are not very impressive in the story department. But, believe me, once you get past that point, the story and characters completely explode in quality and make the first 5-10 hours so worth it. I won't go much more in depth on the story, as you really should experience it for yourself, but I will warn you that the last couple chapters include some very shocking and unexpected moments that you will never forget. And what happens, you may ask? Play the game and find out.

Now, I would like to discuss the negative parts of this game, because this game can certainly be bad in places. Firstly, as I said before, the early chapters (1 & 2) are rather lackluster and really failed to impress me. Throughout these chapters, the combat is rather dull, most of the characters feel very stereotypical, and, worst of all, the game has technical problems in the early areas, which include slowdown and framerate drops throughout a lot of the second area, Gormott. Thankfully, these problems seem to have been mostly fixed now, but they definitely were a problem closer to launch. Secondly, and this is a subjective choice, but I am not a fan of the art style of this game, as the previous two game had art styles that helped them feel more ambiguous (like a combination between western and Japanese RPG's), whereas this one looks way too anime-like for my taste. Speaking of which, this game includes some very weird and cringe-inducing moments within the earlier chapters, and some of them even made me want to stop playing for a while. They become less and less prevalent as the game progresses, but still, they feel out of place one way or another.

Even though this game has some very low points, the high points do so much more than just make up for them. First, once you get past chapter two, this games combat system becomes so addictive and fun, as it not only allows the player to use a variety of different fighters but just feels that perfect refinement of typical Xenoblade combat. Even now I still cannot get of the combat in this game, and I don't think it will ever grow stale for me. Next, the areas of this game, which are referred to as "Titans," are very memorable and well-designed, as most of them are open to exploration and include many different side quests to complete. Some of the most memorable titans include Gormott, Uraya, Tantal, and Leftherian Archipelago. Also, the character development in this game is absolutely amazing, as most of the characters go from being typical JRPG characters to unique and loveable characters throughout the course of the story. I won't mention any names, as I really want to avoid spoiling anything, but just remember not to be so quick to judge any of the characters in this game. Some other excellent parts of this game include fun and challenging super bosses, large affinity charts to complete for each character, memorable side quests and seemingly endless customizations to give.

In conclusion, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, when its at its best, it is a top-notch RPG. However, thanks to its shortcomings, I cannot give this game any higher than a 9/10. If they would've given us a better early game and more realistic art style, then I easily could've given this game a 10/10. But, you know, this is still a fantastic game, and I highly recommend that every JRPG fan picks this game up, as you will not be disappointed.

Altamente recomendado.

For me, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a double-edged sword (just like the Aegis though it means shield) type game.

At times the game excels like its fun and complex combat and music. Then there are neutral elements such as the graphics and voice syncing. And then there are the bad things like the awful navigation system where I got lost a bunch of times, and some really cliche parts. Though

Though at the end of it, I think the pros outweigh its cons, as I personally got invested into the story and characters, which is necessary for its 50+ hour length.

I think that XC2 is a really good addition to the switch and is the game for the anime JRPG audience. From playing the previous entry, I do think the current Xenoblade is a good and better successor.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was like playing (and for many hours watching) long anime series with very good characters, music, overall setting and engaging quicktime/strategic combat. I have tried Dragon Quest XI before this (for 8 hours) and it was boring, extremely easy and utterly stupid (I have quit playing DQXI after receiving quest to save the cat from the roof - WTF). I highly recommend XC2 for any RPG/JRPG fan, specially if you are looking for game to play in bed during the pandemic. :-) Expand

To me, the best aspect of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the strength of its main narrative, which tells an emotional and beautiful tale in an equally beautiful world called Alrest. Alrest is filled to the brim with stunning environments that are a joy to explore, and the characters you lead through your journey are well-written and hard not to love. A deep and satisfying combat system (which admittedly does take a little while getting fully fleshed out) ensure the gameplay is up to snuff with the great world-building and chill inducing narrative. The soundtrack is equally on par, with some distinctive, captivating tracks that add to the grandiose nature of Alrest.

It's a huge game full of content that could easily have you playing for over 100 hours - and what a time you'll have!

The game touches on some pretty deep themes like the fleetingness of life and the need to find meaning to it on an individual basis. 'Blades' struggle with the idea that their memories are reset in their cycle of death and rebirth. I was really happy with the introspective dialogue and complex feelings of the characters.

This is one of my favourite games on the Switch and is easy to recommend, especially if you're into JRPGs or are looking for a huge game to sink your teeth into. It's standalone expansion, Torna - The Golden Country, is also well worth checking out for fans of this game.

I'm now on my second play through of the game and I'm just as marveled. Between the engrossing storyline, battle system, fulfilling characters, colorful graphics, vast environments; there's little room for improvement.

One complaint I've noticed across the board with people is the graphics and framerate. People like to compare the graphics to consoles such as the PS4 and Xbox and fret over the lack of. I do not find this to get an issue. But then again, I understand the hardware limits of the Nintendo Switch. For it's form factor, it's quite impressive. As for framerate, this was remedied a few updates ago.

I will say, if you're not a fan of jrpgs, this game might not be for you. There are very heavy jrpg elements to this game, from the story to the music. I find them to get enchanting however.

This game deserves every bit of praise it gets and is a 10 in my book.

Having never played a game in the Xenoblade series and looking for an RPG to get into on the Switch, I made the decision to jump right in and see what Xenoblade Chronicles 2 had to offer. Although there are pros and cons, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a fantastic RPG that every Nintendo Switch owner should consider looking into.

Let's get some of the negative things out of the way. This game needed a bit more polishing to smoothen out some of its rough edges. One of my biggest gripes is that some of the game mechanics are simply not explained to the player, or they're confusing. So it is possible to go through the game without realizing its full potential unless you look them up. The way side quests are handled can be confusing because sometimes the game won't mark a quest on your map properly, which can lead to frustration. Also, sometimes the environment can work against you during combat. For example, you find yourself fighting and killing an enemy next to or over a cliff, which you may or may not be able to reposition, and lose those item drops as a result. Lastly, prepare to spend a lot of time in the menu since you'll need to unlock skills, swap out characters, etc., which may become tedious.

Now, let's focus on all the good. The soundtrack is simply amazing, I found myself just wandering around and exploring an area just to listen to it. Speaking of, the game rewards you for exploring: looking in every little nook and cranny might yield something useful. The characters develop in a meaningful way, their conversations are well written, which are often very charming and funny. Once the mechanics are understood, the combat can be complex. Finally, for those who like to hunt for every item, this game has much to offer in that department.

All in all, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a damn fine RPG that is fun, engaging, and will have you sinking, possibly, hundreds of hours into it. Sure, this game is flawed in many ways, but despite that, it really is just great experience throughout. If you are a Switch owner, do yourself a favor and pick this one up.

Up to now: I have played for 2 weeks (50+ hours) and I am in chapter 5. There are significant cons of this game, but the game plot and combat system is way better than any other RPG I played this year.

Cons: There are two large cons of this game. First, literally, the map of this game sucks. You don't get many useful information from your small/large map on the screen. Whenever you need to find an npc or just try to figure out where you are, you need to press X, and search for a little while in another navigation system. Moreover, the map system is fragmented. In any other open-world RPG like Zelda, Watchdog etc. you will have a large map that illustrates everything. But it's not the case in Xenoblade 2, which is super annoying. Second, the combat system is great, but the tutorial sucks. I don't use the word "suck" very often in my actual life, but I used it twice here, because the map and tutorial of the combat system literally sucks. To be fair, the combat system is super cool but complicated. However, you don't get much out of the super long and fragmented in-game tutorials. I don't understand how the combos work at all, and what's worse, there is no way you can replay the tutorials! Then I searched online and there is some combat guide. Hey, you know what, I understand how the combo system works by spending 10 minutes reading some short paragraphs with picture illustrations. Come on Monolith, can you put some illustrations and tutorials in the game so people can check whenever they want? How difficult would that be?

Pros: With all that said, it's very hard to start enjoying the real fun of this game. But, if you are patient, and you get through all the initial hurdles of learning the basics, you will realize the game is fabulous. First, for people who like RPG or JRPG, the game plot is very good. Second, the combat system is really, really fun. My problem of RPG is that I get tired of the battles very soon, because all the battles are generally the same and you just repeat your moves. The thing you do is to get your level up, get better equipment, and repeat the moves in a battle. Well, it's still the case that you "repeat" your move during a battle in Xeno 2, but there are so many varieties you can play with. First, different combination of blades will give you different strategies to play with, and you need to focus (in an enjoyable way) to play different combos in the game. It feels so good battling in Xeno 2, because the "reward" or "joy" of playing good strategies and combos is tremendous. There are some other pros of this game, like collecting blades, nurturing them etc., which is super fun and keep you interested in playing this game.

One critic says only "die-hard" JRPG fans will love this game, but I really want to say any people who loves RPG will love this game. This game will definitely be better if it's released one year later, when it's better polished and all the small problems are fixed. But hey, this game is really worth of a 10/10. Overcoming the initial hurdles, and the real fun is waiting for you.

The game plays much different than it's predecessors and incorporates characters that fight in pairs. The drivers, which are the player character, and blades, who assist the former. The characters are typical altered tropes, but are incredibly likable, and play different from one another, do to certain roles they possess. The soundtrack is also phenomenal, and tracks like "Counterattack", and "Awakening" really engage the player. The Titans of Alrest make for incredible places to visit, and are a notable upgrade from "Xenoblade Chronicles 2"'s Mira, and are quite beautiful to look at and explore through. The battle system is a bit simpler, and it is notably easier to defeat bosses with higher levels than you, while still being difficult when it needs to. However, there are notable shortcomings. Characters often repeat battle phrases WAY too often. The animations can be choppy at times, especially when on the go, which hurts an otherwise fantastic JRPG. Then, the final nail in the coffin, the character designs are...questionable. It wouldn't be a JRPG without this popping up in some form but in the case of deuteragonist Pyra (Voiced by Skye Bennet), her design is ridiculous and makes it hard to take some characters seriously. Thankfully, this does not apply to everyone, and a lot of other designs stand out, say, Fire Blade Dagas. Overall, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a joy from start to finish and is right at home on the Nintendo Switch Expand

A fight with an ordinary enemy whose level is slightly higher can drag on for minutes, especially if you’re fighting it alone. The combat itself is also rife with problems: sometimes main character even fails to draw his weapon, or locks onto a far-off enemy, while another already is eviscerating him in close combat.
