Pros: Gorgeous visuals, though they can at times be a tiny bit janky. All in all its among the most pleasant to look at on switch. 9/10

Music: As memorable and infectious as anything from Square. Though definitely not very unique. 7.5/10

Mechanics: The games true sweet spot. The battles and systems are engaging without being overwhelming or impossible. Some can be quite challenging but for the most part hard but fair difficulty.9.5/10

    Cons:

Script: Written like a middle school fan fiction of the War of the Roses. While it picks up later in the game its still very poorly written and expects a LOT of the player to endure completely unneeded linguistic flourishes that are strewn about haphazardly and add nothing to the plot but run time. 3/10

Which brings to the worst element in the game

Voice acting: Inexcusable. The voice actors all sound bored and disinterested. Too many of the voice actors sound nearly identical making characters indistinguishable. You would be better served to turn voice down to zero than listen to this because it is grating and really detracts from the game. It might be something you could overlook had it not been for how much narrative exposition went into the game. 0/10

Pacing: Poor. Its too much like a JRPG pacing where it inexcusably takes like 2 hours worth of cut scenes before getting to any actual game play. Its worse here. In 7 hours of play there was all of 2 battle sequences. YMMV but dont expect much different. It takes far too much time trying to set up these three kingdoms and their strife at the expense of the player. Once it gets that out of the way and picks up the pace it becomes enjoyable but that is beyond the 10 hour mark. That is a MASSIVE commitment on the part of the player to slog through such poorly written and voice acted drek. 3.5/10

    Summary: 6/10
If you can endure the horrendous voice acting and ball and chain pacing there is a true gem here. The mechanics and battles do make up for the terrible cliched and uninspired story once you actually get to them. I would almost say another year of development time would have benefitted this project but its not the technicals that are lacking, Someone should be fired for thinking the writing and voice acting was in any way acceptable. So it definitely drags the whole project down and inevitably this is a game that will quickly get traded in and in a year you will see copies of this for sale about 25-35 dollars because of the quality of those fatal flaws.

Definitely worth a buy, but definitely not at full 60$ price tag.

Music is a huge part in my decision of getting a game and this OST is off the charts especially the lyrical version of the main theme for this game.

For the story, the game is really interesting. Most of the time, the politics displayed is "simple" but for its simplicity, it speaks about hard topics (slavery, war, the weight of principles vs the risk to life) and all is based around 3 values: ethics, pragmatism, and freedom. I really like the idea that the game pushes me to ask myself: will I push freedom or ethics? will i go ethicsFor the story, the game is really interesting. I really like the idea that the game pushes me to ask myself: will I push freedom or ethics? will i go ethics and failure, or pragmatism and success? Should I push my ethics if it doesn't go with freedom? is freedom interesting if it means sacrificing my ethics? Should i fight enslavment for the sake of freedom, or aim to win and then handle the dark means i used to win?

Gameplay: the game is quite good but hard. Many situations have you on the "losing" side; enemies may have a bit of an advantage, and it's only using a "good" play you can compensate. Battles are often not lost when you lose some units, but lose too much and you will never win. So it's a little line on which one walk.
I have felt the grind a bit, but it was very fun because it brings gold and materials you use to improve your weapons.

Units have skills to improve and then "rank"; rank give them access to new skills, and weapins improvement allow you to do more with the skills you have already for all skills, or rarely, one specifics skill.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A great game with a solid story, characters, and gameplay. Triangle Strategy clearly took inspiration from multitudes of SRPGs/JRPGs, such as; Fire emblem series, FF, SF etc. Although Triangle strategy took inspiration from these games, it failed to create something new that sets it above the rest, therefore it is nothing unique, though the progression of the cast's relationships makes up for it, you'll clearly see Serenoa and his retainers' character growth, which will immerse you to the story, leading for you to always look forward to the next chapter. It may be slow at first, but the pacing will get better as you progress. Also, the story has alot of plot twist, so look forward to that. Expand

    The good:
    - Battle system scratched the FFT/Fire Emblem itch - diffficulty is on point, controls are great and the class system works well.
    - Music. Very well done here.

    The bad:
    - The game is basically graphic novela with a bit of action sprinkled around long cut-scenes. In comparison to FFTA & FFTA2 it feels hollow, backstories are just text-only scenes on maps you’ll never access in battle (so much wasted potential).
    - Story isn’t bootstrapped well - too many characters introduced too fast on top of the history lesson is not engaging at all.
    - The grind of getting to recommended level with the “bar fights” is just sad in comparison to richness of quests in FFTA series.
    - Flat characters - heroes are boring do-gooders, and baddies are literally Hitler.
    - The voting system - I know some people like it but I found it frustrating, especially with the esoteric conviction system backing it.

If you have an endless amount of money, this game is a fine addition to your Switch collection. However, I like to use the price tag on a game as a benchmark for my expectations. Up to 20 bucks would be a good buy or even a steal. 30 seems average and fair. But anything above it, especially the 60 euro triple A game standard price tag, is just better spent elsewhere. 60 bucks on a SwitchIf you have an endless amount of money, this game is a fine addition to your Switch collection. This game doesn't hold a candle to those games.

The game looks like Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced with a bit more polish. That's a GBA game. Back then, in 2003, when the standards for games were a lot lower FFTA was a solid buy. paying 60 bucks 20 years later for basically a graphical update and a more expansive story just doesn't make sense considering what other studios are putting out on the Switch. If you ever get this on sale for 15-30 then read this review as a 7.5. This game definitely received some love and it does scratch that grid based tactics game itch if that's what you're looking for. The combat is fine, the story isn't really my favourite but it could be yours, and the spritework does look appealing if it's your thing. But for 60, I can't give it more than a 5.

The battles are challenging, but it never feels unfair.

I especially love the conviction and voting system. This might be the first game in which it truly feels like EVERY minor gameplay decision actually affects my experience later on. It's frustrating when I can't convince certain characters to go with my choice, but that's a great thing; all of the characters you meet have distinct personalities and motivations, and the game really lets them shine. Some voice actors aren't great (though some of them are excellent, and I appreciate the full voice acting!), and the decision to use medieval vocabulary and spellings feels rather silly sometimes, but it doesn't detract that much from my overall experience.

Overall, this game is an instant classic for me, and I look forward to future entries for this type of strategy RPG.

The adventures through the Kingdom of Glenbrook provide a compelling experience, more so for those who love choice-based games that involve intriguing plots and tactical combat. Triangle Strategy is one of the few games where making decisions that matter is harder than actually winning battles. This is one of those games that could leave a mark on an entire gerne if Square Enix decides to turn it into a franchise.
