The scales are what really brings this game to a 9/10 for me. Making choices that matter is awesome, but gathering evidence and making arguments to your party members based on their personalities is amazing. It encourages you to pay attention to the main cast and see what motivates them. Overall amazing game must play. Expand

    Les + :
    - style graphique

    - le rythme... très soporifique malheureusement

What a wonderful story-driven game. If you like books, you don‘t shy away from medieval themes and you always wanted to be able to influence the story, this game is for you. I enjoyed the round-based tactics, the rpg elements just as much as I did the very good plot. Hope there is a successor in the works - well done, developers!

the story battles: 10/10 so well made maps and encounters make every battle unique and fun

Non story battles : 7/10 the non story battle are push overs with no fun just play for the XP/itens

Customization 3/10 there is none, most stuff is based on level, you cant equip anything besides 2 accessories for each person. there is no class choices, you just level up until a upgraded class unlocks, and its the same as previous class with a new sprite + 2 skills then 1+ skill.

the game is based in the story of your main party, the story is good, the main party is so/so and they change according to your choices, ALL Choices stats are hidden, but some are too obvious other are not.

and here we get to the good part, the choices, there are so many that changes the course of game play, that is the high light, even that 80% of the choices are obvious if someone will like or not, also every 5m a message saying that you resolve changed will pop up, but since its a hidden stats... well

and here the bad: the main party suck compared to the people with no story that joins... and you cant take everyone into to battle so you have to choose, good chars? or story important people that you can care?

For me this is the biggest disappointment in 2022 (so far).

Triangle Strategy is unfortunately nowhere as good as Octopath Traveler... It's just average game. It may be important information for people who were excited about this game due to OT, like myself. I know it's different genre, and I very much like games like Fire Emblem (which I scored 8 or even 9 in case of Three Houses),

I know it's different genre, and I very much like games like Fire Emblem (which I scored 8 or even 9 in case of Three Houses), but it's not the point. Anyway, there has already been told enough about all drawbacks of Triangle Strategy in here, so please refer to other mixed comments which cover them honest in detailed way.

I just wanted to warn all people who could possibly hope Triangle Strategy would be of similar quality to Octopath Traveler - there is a big chance you'll be disappointed :(

Also, It's a pity to read all these "Very positive" comments with little justification. Not because of the other people opinions. It just makes me sad how much money they put nowadays into marketing and amplifying a product instead of making simply a good one. It makes me really sad, because if developers keep same trajectory in Octopath Traveler 2 one day, this could be disaster... :(

    - Very fun turn based combat. This is the most important thing about the whole game.

    - The story is like "choose your own adventure" GoT.

    - Huge cast of unique characters

    - High replayability

    Cons:
    - The music is absolutely shockingly bad. Colossal disappointment after hearing the Octopath Traveler soundtrack, which they just did not long ago. The music is extremely important in a game like this because it's designed after FFT... and the music was extremely important back then. because you're forced to listen to battle music for hours. The battle music in TS is just grating and repetitive. I had to turn it off, which says a lot.

    - The story blatantly "borrows" moments from GoT and FFT. Not original enough.

    - Story recaps "the story so far" over and over and over and unfolds very slowly.

    - Rewards on New Game+ do not scale with the increased difficulty. So, you can't afford upgrades for the first half of New Game+

It would be 8.5-9 easily if not for the huge misstep of the soundtrack.

Whoever wrote the story for this game really thought their audience would be captivated with dull political lore and hidden nuances within the story. I have probably skipped like 6 early game cutscenes waiting for the next battle. Even octopath wasn't this bad. Square Enix dropped the ball on this Story wise. Gameplay is what you'd expect out of a tactical rpg. Nothing blew me away.

The battles are challenging, but it never feels unfair.

I especially love the conviction and voting system. This might be the first game in which it truly feels like EVERY minor gameplay decision actually affects my experience later on. It's frustrating when I can't convince certain characters to go with my choice, but that's a great thing; all of the characters you meet have distinct personalities and motivations, and the game really lets them shine. Some voice actors aren't great (though some of them are excellent, and I appreciate the full voice acting!), and the decision to use medieval vocabulary and spellings feels rather silly sometimes, but it doesn't detract that much from my overall experience.

Overall, this game is an instant classic for me, and I look forward to future entries for this type of strategy RPG.

The game's challenge doesn't end with the battles themselves, it also includes several of the difficult choices the game forces you to make throughout the game. There's a number of games with moral testing choices that I spend more time than I really should on, but choices you have to make in Triangle Strategy are choices that you may find yourself spending an entire day thinking over. Often times, you're faced with choices that are either both good or both bad, really testing your convictions. I initially thought this conviction testing mechanic would just be a simple means of unfolding the story a certain way, but rather it's a situation that makes you question some of your own values and weigh the possible outcomes between the one choice or another. It wasn't something I expected to have such a profound effect on how the game is played and how the events of the story unfold. I gotta hand it to the writers of the story, who put a lot of thought and care into developing a 3rd dimensional world with several 3rd dimensional characters portrayed in HD-2D.

As tactical RPGs go, it's one of my favorite non-Fire Emblem games. I still prefer Fire Emblem: Three Houses for Switch tactical RPGs for its variety of gameplay options and more colorful cast, but Triangle Strategy has plenty of charm and things going for it that it's definitely worth getting. There's a ton of characters to recruit, a lot of story to unravel, and the writing style is one of my all time favorites in a medieval age setting. This is a recommended game for anyone who enjoys a deep, thought provoking story where your decisions actually matter.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I tried to like this game but it's just lacking. The story pacing is slow that made me keep on putting the game down and do other stuff. Just didn't keep my interest outside of the battles. Characters definitely lacking skills or far too similar with one another: 3 elemental spells, push, multiple slash tiles, pretty much it. And what I dislike the most, there's one ending where you need to do veeeery specific choices in the game. I would've been fine that there'd be multiple paths to reach such ending, but with the way how the game is so slow, 1 playthrough is enough for me. Game is pretty though, but the graphics isnt as crisp as I thought it was gonna be. When I look at it hard, I find it hazy and cloudy. Character promotion could've been nicer but then again, it's just 1 path. No other choices. Only special thing about this is its 2D HD and a lil bit of a story that tries. Expand

Don't let its simple graphics fool you. Beneath its pixel art style is a deeply nuanced story of political intrigue and scheming. Honestly, at times I got some serious Game of Thrones vibes. Actions (sometimes seemingly small in nature) can have noticeable impacts on later parts of the narrative. Something as small as not helping a certain character at one point can have them turn on you quite dramatically later on.

Combat plays out like Fire Emblem, but without the constant worry of permadeath that the aforementioned series is known for. The array of unit types is wide enough to keep combat interesting and engaging for a long period of time. I've currently played the game for around thirty five hours and reached chapter thirteen.

At times you really must act with caution when considering unit placement and terrain. These become key components to securing victory, as you're oftentimes outnumbered.

For me however, one of the game's most interesting mechanics is its voting system.

As a young lord within a kingdom, you don't make single-handed decisions. You defer to your closest friends and allies for guidance. From there, two or three choices are given to you on how to tackle a specific situation. You then vote on it, and the majority decision is put into action. This doesn't mean you aren't free to negotiate with your friends and comrades, however. You're given the means to talk them around to your way of thinking should you wish to pursue a certain path.

My only gripe with this game, and it may just be a personal thing, is the difficulty of one or two levels. A couple of them feel a touch unfair. A few enemies have moves which can be easily abused, all while your cast of characters are left ill-equipped to deal with them due to situational reasons.

All in all though, Triangle Strategy is a must try for those of you who like tactical RPG's and enjoy deeply engaging storytelling. I'd give it a solid 8.5 if that were an option, while deducting just a small amount from what would've been an overall score of 9 if not for the slight issues with combat I just mentioned.

    - Music. Very well done here.

    The bad:
    - The game is basically graphic novela with a bit of action sprinkled around long cut-scenes. In comparison to FFTA & FFTA2 it feels hollow, backstories are just text-only scenes on maps you’ll never access in battle (so much wasted potential).
    - Story isn’t bootstrapped well - too many characters introduced too fast on top of the history lesson is not engaging at all.
    - The grind of getting to recommended level with the “bar fights” is just sad in comparison to richness of quests in FFTA series.
    - Flat characters - heroes are boring do-gooders, and baddies are literally Hitler.
    - The voting system - I know some people like it but I found it frustrating, especially with the esoteric conviction system backing it.

Written like a middle school fan fiction of the War of the Roses. While it picks up later in the game its still very poorly written and expects a LOT of the player to endure completely unneeded linguistic flourishes that are strewn about haphazardly and add nothing to the plot but run time

The adventures through the Kingdom of Glenbrook provide a compelling experience, more so for those who love choice-based games that involve intriguing plots and tactical combat. Triangle Strategy is one of the few games where making decisions that matter is harder than actually winning battles. This is one of those games that could leave a mark on an entire gerne if Square Enix decides to turn it into a franchise.

Nevertheless, the quality of story battles makes up for the wait because they offer a lot of variety, and every problem can be solved in a multitude of ways. [Issue#260, p.44]
