All this is wrapped up with a generic story, centered around the girlfriend in freezer trope, and while the LucasArt-like text on-screen is a nice touch of nostalgia, the voice acting that delivers these lines is stilted. It's a disappointing experience altogether. Expand

In my eyes, this game had potential. The setting is interesting and intriguing for scifi fans. However the gameplay is abysmal. It is a puzzle platformer. The puzzles are easy but that would not be a big deal if the platforming was fluid and well done. Do not waster your time. You might get invested like I did to eventually have to give up and throw it out the window (I wish I could literally do that). Expand

Mal control. Malísimo. Saltos malísimos. Impreciso.

Besides the nice pixel graphics, this game feels as average as it can get. Dull game play and rather boring questing, I'm not sure if I could recommend this game even to retro fans.

This game is terrible do not buy it. The controls are an unresponsive mess and the game is filled with game breaking bugs. Character not spawning, enemies not dying, scripted events breaking, emergency restart sending you back multiple level worth of progress randomly when it previously worked correctly. The worst purchase i have made on my Switch so far 0/10 do not buy!

I really, really really wanted to like this game. I don't. (Reviewed version: 1.4.0)

THE WAY REMASTERED is a badly made game. This must be the reason the game is constantly on sale. But don’t be fooled, even for 99 cents, it is a waste of your time and money! THE WAY REMASTERED is a badly made game. This must be the reason the game is constantly on sale. But don’t be fooled, even for 99 cents, it is a waste of your time and money!

The game starts out slow, with lots of unnecessary long back tracking needed. The bland and plain boring look of the first section perfectly illustrates the repetitive and uninspired puzzles. This all might seem like something worth to endure to get to the more colourful locations promised by the marketing. (It isn’t.) So, what’s wrong with this game?

The story, while generic, is not to blame. The art style isn’t either, even though it failed to deliver convincingly on the promised retro pixel art, thanks to the programmers not being able to resist to move said pixel art around. The sound effects are nice. The “music” is void of melodic content, it consists mainly of synthesizer pads and atmosphere. You might enjoy it when encountering a new area, but it gets old pretty fast. The voice acting is done well, even if it is annoying after a while. (If you still want to waste money on THE WAY REMASTERED, try it with the music turned down, and the voice acting turned off.)
The gameplay is a bit of a problem. It often consists of solving an insultingly easy puzzle by acquiring a hint on one side of the level, telling you to back track dozens of screens, to find a hit area that was invisible if you had move to fast when encountering it before, only to have you traverse back to where you got the hint. This happens a lot. A LOT! Basically, that is the game.

Where the game really drops the ball, is with the controls. One could forgive the back tracking and solving Professor Layton style puzzles scattered over several screens, but 99.9 % of your deaths are going to be because of the controls not taking your input. You will respawn instantly, often in close proximity of your demise (if you are lucky… ) only to die again, courtesy of sloppy controls.

There are also still game breaking bugs in version 1.4.0 -- the game sometimes randomly decides it does not want to take any input, forcing a restart.

It is rather interesting, how many reviewers mention that they played a patched version. One can only wonder how much worse this game must have been! I personally took note of the developers (Puzzling Dream), and will avoid their œuvre in the future.

(I created an account just for this review, after YEARS of using metacritic, to warn other potential buyers how bad this game is.)

Lo único bueno de este juego es su nivel artísto. Su pixelart es bonito. Su jugabilidad es nefasta, parece tener una buena historia pero es tan aburrido que no te dan ganas de jugar....

To compare this game to any other game is insulting to those other games. The controls are so bad, I had to check if my controllers are faulty (tried with joy-cons and pro controller,) since the game would often register a false input, or no input at all. The in-game logic makes in mandatory to backtrack — a lot! That is a dangerous approach in any visually pleasing game with fun mechanics, in a game as ugly and boring as The Way Remastered, it is unforgivable. I had several system crashes, playing version 1.4.0. If this is the 'remastered' version, how bad was it before!?! The only challenges in this game are the controls and the crashes. The game must have heard me when I said, “if you crash one more time, I'll abandon you,” since it miraculously behaved well till I got to the end. Expand

Wasted potential. I love the pixelart in this game, first 30 minutes were great, but after it you realize, that the game is based on totally random and cheap puzzles. It is not even hard, it's just moving objects without any logic, most of the time. I quit the game close to the end of it, after another stupid platform section, which was totally based on luck and trying over and over again.Wasted potential. The Way Remastered isn't an experience you're going to forget in a while, but it would be markedly improved with more accurate controls. As such, it's more irritating than it is inspiring in its current form.

The Way Remastered introduces us a man who does not accept the death of the person he loves, and thanks to his experience working as an explorer and researcher, he believes he has found a way to resurrect his wife. The game does not arrive with an impeccable translation into Spanish, and there are small bugs that can complicate the experience of this adventure. However, the game is still an incredible experience that fans of puzzle games will love.

The story was interesting with captivating settings and gorgeous areas to explore. The game also featured a great audio design, with some voice acting accenting the strong background music. The puzzles were difficult but fair, and the sense of accomplishment created true highs. But between glitches and faulty control schemes, I found the game impossible to complete, and that makes it hard to recommend.
