The trailers really give nothing away, but I can assure you that Tears of the Kingdom is far from "Breath of the Wild but again". The amount of content in this game is staggering; it's made me feel daunted in a way no game has before.

This game gets closer to perfection than any game I've played before. Everyone should experience it.

New mechanics like creation make this game so fun, and if you aren't a builder it's ok, you don't have to use it and enjoy the game at your form, only it's necessary in shrines. Talking about the shrines, i consider them enjoyable but not as much as they were in botw, that is the only low point that i see, but it's ok.
I'm in doubt about the bosses and the temples. The temples are great, easiers than botw, but great. It's just that they turns repetitive as you progress. The bosses now feel more variated, but they are easy. Also, the final boss is better than Calamity Ganon and i LOVE IT, it's "easy" but i love it. In conclusion, i think that this game is perfect, cause they took botw and they perfected it, covering all the low points of this and making them more entertaining. To no one's surprise, this game is the definition of what open world games have to be. 10/10

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is by far the best game of all time. Its really fun, the story was great, the map had so much stuff in it, and it inproved all the things wrong about Breath of the Wild. My favorite part in the game was the depths which is basically a second hyrule and the caves on the surface had so much to discover. They really filled the map up with quests, dungeons, shrines, koroks, and enemy camps. They made breath of the wild, which was previously my favorite game of all time, look like a tech demo. I loved all of the new abilitys ecspecially ultrahand, I loved building tanks and mechs to fight and travel hyrule. They made really good dungeons that are much better than botw dungeons and the sage abilitys that you use in the dungeon are fun. Best game of all time 10/10.

My only problems with this game is the performance of the game and the difficulty. For the performance is that this game holds on to 30fps all the time if there is something big like a lot of enemies than it will freeze but, thank goodness for just 1-2 seconds. The difficulty is also my complaint because it gets so hard even in the depths but, it's a good thing to show how, when you beat the enemy or boss you finally found happiness and stop raging like me. These two complaint s can be brushed aside for how good this game is. So that's why I give this game a 10/10. Expand

THIS is how you make a sequel to already one of the best games there is. There's so much stuff to do. It single handedly upped the ante for open world games, even after Elden ring did so last year. The story is better then BoTW and there is an actual endboss now that is not a total pushover but a force to be reckoned with. It does everything BoTW did, but better with even more freedom.

However, there are some areas where Tears of the Kingdom could be improved. The grinding can be a bit repetitive at times, and the game can be a bit too easy for experienced players. Overall, though, Tears of the Kingdom is a great game that is sure to please fans of the Zelda franchise.
The new abilities are a lot of fun to use. The Ultrahand is especially versatile, and it can be used to solve puzzles, build structures, and even fight enemies.
The story is well-written and engaging. The characters are likable and relatable, and the plot is full of twists and turns.
The boss fights are some of the best in the series. They are challenging but fair, and they require you to use all of your skills to defeat them.
The grinding can be a bit repetitive. There are a few areas in the game where you need to grind for materials, and this can get tedious after a while.
Overall, I really enjoyed Tears of the Kingdom. It is a great game that is sure to please fans of the Zelda franchise. If you are looking for a fun and challenging game with a great story, then I highly recommend Tears of the Kingdom.

The new parts of the maps really set in good moods, and the new enemies are great, especially the hands. I was really invested with Zelda's story and loved to chase the new memory collections. The graphics are great and I love how they still sticked to the cartoony style, but just polished it instead. And the sound track is beautiful, the main theme is my number one on my playlist and just running around in all parts of the map, the music caters perfectly. They still keep lots of things from breath of the wild which makes it feel like a visit back to a familiar place.
The game itself runs great, with myself finding no glitches while playing nor bugs. This is really impressive as I share a switch with 3 of my siblings and the fact that the switch is a tiny hand held console.
As the story progresses more things from botw and totk just make more sense, giving the feeling of great discovery.
But apart from the everything, the pure joy I got when I saw the game arrive was like nothing I have ever felt before. Doing the Tutorial Island reminded me of my first time playing Botw on the Wii U and it just felt so comforting. The feelings the game gives you set a new open world standard that will ever be hard to beat. I hope this version of the games keeps continuing because it's been the happiest while of my life while playing this Masterpiece.

Despite all the praise BotW received, I struggled to finish the game. I only made the effort to finish BotW because at some point TotK convinced me it might be a fun game. I finished BotW months before the release of TotK, despite having purchased it at launch.

The difference between the two is night and day. TotK is NOT glorified DLC. Those who claim it is DLC are clearly lying about having played the game. It is a highly fun and addictive game.

    Pros:

The game is seamless. You can find the highest sky mountain and glide into the deepest chasm without any loading screens. That is impressive when you consider it's all on the Switch.

The game is visually stunning. While it's doesn't have the graphics of something like FF16, it's watercolor art style feels just right. I play this game on an 80" 4k tv and I don't mind the look of it.

The way the story is delivered has some issues, but the story is touching. Zelda is not just damsel in distress like in previous games. She plays a major role in helping you defeat the Demon King.

Ultrahand is the bread and butter of this game. It has limits but there's a lot you can do with it. It all depends on how creative you are. Some of the fusions look wacky, but they are fun to play with.

    Cons:

It does have some frame rate drops. This game really does push the Switch to its limits, but for what this game does, it is truly impressive how much it gets away with. The drops aren't too frequent to ruin the experience. The only moment I remember seeing a frame rate dropping was when I jumped off a sky platform chasing a fire-dragon that was going into a chasm. I glid alongside the dragon until it reached the depths then landed on it. It was just a moment the game stuttered.

There are some narrative issues. I don't think this is a spoiler, but the narrative revolves around you finding Zelda. If you've grown up with the series, you know that's a staple of the franchise.

I encountered Impa early on, and she sent me on a quest to find all the tears. I have an obsession with unlocking the world map in these open world game before starting the story. It usually results in me reaching max level before I even start the campaign.

Finding all the tears reveals what happened to Zelda, yet Link still runs around pretending he doesn't know. It's funny but it's still a glazing narrative issue.

This is minor. In my exploration I also stumbled across the Master Sword without receiving the quest from the Deku tree since I couldn't find the entrance to the Lost Woods. The entrance alluded me until my brother said, "Why do you climb everything." Then my it clicked in my BotW brain.

I just feel certain reveals could have been held off until certain criteria were met. I know it would complicate the game for some players, but it could have held the narrative a little better.

All the champions have the same cutscenes. These moments could have been used to expand the narrative.

This game is almost flawless, but since I can't give it a 9.5, it takes the whole 10.

New abilities of Link are the core now, and truly you can almost build everything with that if you find how and are creative enough: now you can travel and resolve puzzles with a lot of more freedom and the world is designed for this to work perfectly. The story follows the previous one, but I have the feeling as if were more years passed instead of a few ones, like hundred instead of a bunch, anyway, this is explained better once you play it and it make sense, but the story is now a bit more serious, prove of this is hat now we must face our archenemy Ganondorf to save the world.

Those negative ratings are from review bombing losers and must be erased, but even with that the game have a great score here and just like in Zelda series, the truth and light will always prevail and erase the darkness and evil. Play this masterpiece and enjoy.

I love the return of proper dungeons, but I do wish there was more of them. My one gripe is what I feel as a clunky system to fuse weapons, shield, arrows and the like. You have to scroll through a slew of items in the quick menu to find the one thing you want to fuse, or find it in the main menu, hold it, drop it in game, then select the option to fuse. Doesn’t feel intuitive. But! Other than that, this game is damn masterpiece, and very much a Game of the Year contender for me! Expand

The reintroduction of like-likes, gibdos, and what are basically floor masters, and basically kargaroks, really round out the enemy variety, the reintroduction of gleeoks and gohma is awesome and all the other new bosses are real fun as well, story was great, I often felt more rewarded when completing a side quest as the rewards were often more worthwhile, side quests were much more memorable than Botw. The voice acting is just as bad as in BOTW for most characters (Rauraru and Zelda specifically), made worse by there being even more voice acting. There's no standout performances, but Tulin and Ganondorf are acceptable.

Performance was abysmal overall. Using the God Hand power would drop my Switch to what felt like 15-20 fps. The fire temple also ran at about 10 fps the entire time.

THE LEGEND OF ZELDA – TEARS OF THE KINGDOM REVIEW

As a long time, Zelda lover, for this new iteration to the franchise I was expecting Nintendo to polish some of the things I did not like from Breath of the Wild, and indeed they did polish them, but many other aspects were not touched and to me, personally that is something I did not like. Don’t get me wrong, this game is amazing, but if you disliked some of the things you played during the previous switch game, you will feel a little disappointed here.

    SETTING
Sometimes Nintendo reuses their iteration of Zelda and Link, and this one was no exception. The spectacular intro of Tears of the Kingdom will leave you breathless, it is simply the darkest and most gorgeous intro in a Zelda game. From the start you know that this game will be complex and that the journey ahead will be full of adventure. Exploring not only the overworld of Hyrule but gliding and soaring through the skies of Hyrule is incredible. But hey, not only that, but you also explore the depths of Hyrule, so it is like three worlds seamlessly connected. It can be a bit overwhelming at times, but jumping off a ruin in the sky to land in the depths of Hyrule is amazing!

    MECHANICS
    • Exploration:
The core of the game, and the best aspect from Breath of the Wild. Now exploration is upskilled with the introduction of two new worlds for you to engage: The sky, the land, and the depths. Finding shrines of light is your main objective, you need to increase your stamina gauge and your hearts if you mean to survive. Yes, the land of Hyrule may seem the “same” as BotW, but many changes have been introduced. There are a plethora of caves, shrines, and places of interest in this game, that after 50+ hours of gameplay, I thought for sure I had done at least 70% completion… a meager 40%, this game is BIG! And yes, there are once again Temples to be visited, but not in the regular Zelda fashion that you know. Still, those temples made me feel happy as I really did not love the big machine like temples we got from BotW.

    • Combat:
Sorry but this is the main flaw of this game. I simply do not like to engage in combat. The combat is too simplistic, and it is a copy-paste from BotW… weapons break, but with the addition of a new ability to “glue whatever you find to a weapon” (which sometimes feels ludicrous to me) you can extend the duration of a weapon, but in the end they will break. Yes, even the Master Sword when you get it will “break” and you need to wait 10 minutes for it to recover. This system does not make sense to me!
Additionally, Link is pathetic in combat, if you get swarmed by enemies, you will die, a lot! So, the best tactic is to run away and find a sweet spot to try to smash enemies one by one. I did not like the combat in BotW, and I do not like the combat in TotK either! Instead of giving us the ability to “create” stuff to solve puzzles, I would have preferred a more robust combat system.

    • Abilities
As an engineer, I love to see how things can be built, and how to create new things. This game will provide you with that. The thousands of ways you can solve a puzzle are amazing, and the developers really did a good job here. I personally don’t like games where you need to build stuff, and in TotK I find myself many more times being frustrated because I’m locked down on a specific puzzle, than amazed for the way in which I cleverly managed to solve the dratted puzzle.

    VISUALS
When will we get a Zelda game with graphics like God of War, Horizon Series, Dark Souls, or Final Fantasy? I’m unsure why Nintendo keeps giving Zelda a cartoonish look when this series is so amazing. Visuals are ok, if you liked BotW you won’t have a problem here. There is a revamp and an upskill in terms of graphics in here, but the amazement comes not from the graphics per se but for the grandeur of the setting, the world, the bosses, the temples, and Ganon… oh my, Ganon and the dragons!

Is this the best Zelda game? Not for me, Twilight Princess will still be the best Zelda game, but this game has an amazing exploration system, which is undermined by the simplicity of its combat, a core and a foundation for the Zelda franchise. Still, you will have a blast with this game.

The main boss fights and dungeons also felt like a major upgrade from botw, although the dungeon puzzles still weren't to the level of something like A Link to the Past, so I would've liked some more interesting puzzles. Considering that link had such interesting abilities in this game, they could have had Portal level puzzles if they wanted to tbh, although I guess they wanted to keep the game accessible to younger kids too. Another thing I would've liked is if they had more challenging shrines and also some more spots in the overworld to really use Link's abilities. Like mainly I would just use recall every once in a wall to throw a boulder back at an enemy or I might use ultrahand to make the world's most simplistic boat, but i feel like they could've had more interesting puzzles link might just come across in the environment that would make the player think a bit further outside of the box. But that's a pretty minor complaint, and it was overall a really really enjoyable experience. Expand

While much of the game felt like I was replaying Breath of the Wild, it really started to grow on me the more I played. The shrines were much fun and focused on solving puzzles. The weapon durability is annoying, however, it does encourage you to use different weapons, which can be fun when using the fuse ability to modify them. Ultra hand is cool and adds a whole new dimension to the gameplay; it's not a gimmick and is quite useful.

The game doesn't have traditional temples, but I do feel that it makes up for that by having an interesting world full of different regions, numerous shrines and also wells, which is a new staple for the series. Traversal is quite good even without the need to use a horse. The horses are difficult to control anyway.

The game offers a LOT of side adventures, side quests and shrine quests. I generally focused on the main game but did one or two dozen side quests here and there. This is the first ever main Zelda game to feature voice acting. The voice acting is okay; nothing special. As usual, Link doesn't talk.

The graphics are slightly improved over BotW but not by much. The game may appear graphically outdated compared to other games on other platforms, but overall it looks fine and nice. The frame rate could be better though.

Many assets from BotW are indeed recycled for TotK, such as musical pieces, certain characters, flora and fauna, items and enemies. I really think that this, and the fact that there are no traditional temples, is ultimately what prevents me from giving this game a 10. But it makes up for it by having plenty of new things like the depths, the sky, new abilities, etc.

Let me explain: Breath of the Wild was an absolutely monumental leap from previous Zelda games, as well as open-world games in general. Tears of the Kingdom, however, feels lacking considering its development time. Six years is quite a stretch of time to be working with the same world and many of the same assets. While the fusion mechanic and overall building are lots of fun, they do lose their shine. What this game lacks is any real suspense, surprise, or weight during moment-to-moment gameplay.

For a world that is massive, there is not much to find beyond the main story quest. Shrines are definitely an improvement and there are new monsters for sure. But this game feels like exploring a theme park ride on foot. Once you've finished the ride, you've seen it all. Combing through the details will only leave you finding half-baked animatronics that look shabbier in the light. Don't get me wrong, that initial theme park ride is fantastic, which is why this game is still an 8/10. But don't imagine you're going to find anything interesting that isn't explicitly in a main story quest. Compared to Elden Ring, which clearly took inspiration from Breath of the Wild, there were so many moments of real, genuine surprise. There were so many secrets to find that were truly secret. The fact that Placidusax and others are missable makes every moment of gameplay feel like it matters. Meanwhile, exploring the depths in Tears of the Kingdom feels like you're going to find another mine with another chest with a copy of the exact same green tunic but in a slightly different shade that Link wears in every single game. Yikes.

Ultimately, it's a dopamine-filled journey that is an absolute blast in the moment. But this game truly lacks any real substance for it to be memorable in the same way Breath of the Wild was. I'm glad i played it, but I can't imagine going back to it and enjoying it again.

This game is fantastic. The scope of it is absurd: so many times I couldn't believe just how big it was and how I could see so far into the distance and know I could go there without a single loadtime. Then there is the fact that there is a whole area of the same size underground and a much smaller but still great area in the sky and is becomes almost unbelievable that this is running on the Switch.
Still, that is not without its problems, as the game is 30 fps with constant framedrops, which is a shame, as it really detracts from the experience.
Nevertheless, this is a world worth exploring. There are NPCs and field bosses and interesting quests at every turn. You 100% get sidetracked all the time because there is just so much to do.
The physics are impressive. So many shrines rely on you solving puzzles and they can all be "cheated" by exploiting the game's systems, it is wild and sparks creativity.
The building mechanic is quite impressive as well, but I have to say a lot of the time it is difficult to make it work. A lot of the contraptions are kinda wonky and it takes a long time to build something more stable, especially without autobuild just doing it for you out of the schematics.
The companion mechanic is kinda bad, it seems half-baked. Activating their abilities should be tied to a menu, instead of you having to turn the camera to find and run all the way to them whilemashing A, and they should help out in combat more. I don't know if it's a better mechanic than the abilities in BotW.
The story is a bit mixed. It's good, but very repeated from BotW and due to the non-linear aspect of the game, you kinda have the same experience(story-wise) whenever you do a regional main quest, the characters don't react to the things you already know, which is especially jarring after you learn about what happened to Zelda.
However...the ending is superb. From the moment the Ganondorf fight starts to the end, it is just out of this world. Both great in scope but also a tearjerker. I have not felt this good after a game ending in a long while.
All in all, a fantastic game, worth of all the praise and will be remembered as one of the great titles of the Switch.

The story might be the best Zelda Story of all time. I didn't expect Nintendo to tell such an emotional story in one of their games. Especially the cutscenes with Ganondorf are spectacular.

A true masterpiece. This game honestly is perfection. From the open world to explore, to the dungeons to conquer and the enemies to slay, I have enjoyed every aspect of this game and could simply not recommend it more. This game is a absolute must have for switch users and Zelda fans. I could genuinely sit down and play this game for hours.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has lived up to the high expectations created by the success of Breath of the Wild with its exquisitely intertwined gameplay systems, outstanding music, and a legendary story culminating in a magnificent denouement. It's not every day that such a special video game like this comes around. Truly the stuff of legend.
