Spent 7 hours looking for the 4th shrine to progress the game. Ended up looking it up on YouTube, and when I saw the solution, I parted with my copy of the game. Utterly ridiculous.

The controls are also confusing AF, there are too many and I found myself getting completely lost with the myriad of options available and pressing the wrong button over and over again.

A massive, massive let down. BOTW was a masterpiece, the sequel is just an utter joke.

Juego muy ingenioso, continuación de lo visto antes, si. Pero con ganas de innovar sobre algo ya bien establecido. Más de lo mismo pero mejor, simplemente hermoso.

This game is definitely going to win Game of the Year for 2023. Massive step up from Breath of the Wild, it feels like a complete wave of fresh air in comparison. For those who haven't played BotW already but want to play TotK and aren't sure, watch the story recap video for BotW on Nintendo's YouTube channel and go straight into playing TotK. You can play BotW beforehand if you want and it won't dull your experience with TotK, but that's just my personal recommendation.

And for those who are worried about performance, from my experience 10 hours into the game so far I can say it's pretty smooth. There are a couple instances in which the framerate can dip below 30FPS such as while using Ultrahand when there are a ton of effects or entities on the screen or in that one apple orchard on Satori Mountain, but apart from that? The game is mostly a solid 30FPS. The game is using what I like to call "Cheap VRR" in which whenever a frame drop happens in those instances I mentioned, the game will lock out at either a smooth 25FPS or 20FPS with consistent frametimes to alleviate input delay and the feeling of complete choppiness so it doesn't feel as jarring.

Enjoy the game and have fun!

Great game start to finish. It improves on BotW in just about every way. No issues with performance, no bugs or glitches. Also reintroduces a lot of what made past titles great into the game in new ways. However you feel about past zelda titles this game is more then worthy of the many 10s it has received.

El juego con más libertad de toda la historia.
El juego con el mundo más grande y vivo que existe.
Un juego con una historia increíble, una jugabilidad muy buena y una infinidad de posibilidades para no aburrirse nunca.
Si Breath of the Wild tiene 97 y Ocarina of time 99... Este, sin duda, merece el 100.

This game takes everything that made BOTW great and doubles -and sometimes triples- down on it. And the things from BOTW that were weaker have been drastically improved. Whether it be combat, exploration, puzzles, or story, everything has been improved to some capacity.

How the heck this can have nearly 9 points? This game is BORING, even worse than BOTW. Since the beginning you are dropped in a dead world with barely nothing in it, sanctuaries are boring as hell, mechanics are terribly slow, butter-weapons mechanic is still there... Wasted 60€.
If you want a real Zelda experience play Link's awakening, that at least feels like a real zelda and not this crap.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The sequel to Breath of the Wild does everything that it did with the initial title, but better. This time, you are helped by the Zonnan engineers into engineering your way through Hyrule and other sky islands, as well as underground cave tunnels that give way to uncountable hours of fun, exploration, building and all the exciting puzzles and battles with game mechanics that are revolutionary and have never been seen before in a videogame. It sets another milestone in the adventurous world of Zelda and Link against the calamities of Ganondorf and its ravishing land... the land of Hyrule. Graphics have improved and the lore unveals itself from the mysteries of perhaps, the best saga today in videogames. So far, it's a more than fair candidate to GOTY. Congratulations team Zelda! I love this game! I have spent 40 hours in TOTK and I have only completed the first temple.
Things that are better than BOTW: Better load times, WAY bigger map(s), less stuttering (The 30fps are pretty consistent), much more options in combat and exploration due to the new abilities. More unique monsters and optional boss fights.

I've been a Zelda fan since the original and have played (almost) every title in this series. That being said, I've been playing for hours and have yet to have more than a few minutes' worth of actual fun. EVERYTHING is a chore. The map they start you on is a nightmare to traverse. Weapon durability is atrocious and the button map on the switch is the worst I've ever seen. I have spent the last 2+ hours trying to find my way to the temple after unlocking the first 3 shrines. How is that supposed to be enjoyable? Spending hours literally looking for a proper path to a destination? Overall, it's a serious step back from the last one and definitely not worth $70. Zelda deserves so much more than whatever this is.

The same problems that BOTW had, exist in this game: poor voice acting, very little story to drive you, side quests of older zelda games have largely been abandoned in favour of korok seed mini games and a hundred different temples scattered all over the map.

I think if they could have just taken the size of the BOTW map, but made the population of NPCs as intricately connected and as interactive as Majora's Mask with similar improvements to the story, this would have been a slam-dunk 11 out of 10 "Nintendo sets the standard again," kind of game. Instead they opted to dive harder into the open-world aspects, taking cues from minecraft of whatever. Which isn't all bad. I have definitely gotten lost for several hours just exploring and inventing things and I can see myself getting hundreds, if not thousands of hours of game time with this game.

But when I think Zelda, I think of a bustling castle with people living their lives, with hundreds of side-quests available to really become the hero the people. Instead this game is more about solitary exploration with some big bad bosses lurking around should you choose to encounter them. Good game, great even, but I think my expectations for the Zelda franchise are a little different than what we got with BOTW and TOTK.

If you would rate BOTW a 10, then I'm sure you'll thoroughly enjoy TOTK. For me BOTW was more like an 8 or a 9, and I'm probably less critical of it because it was a fresh new take on the franchise at the time. But with TOTK it does feel very much like more of the same, and I was hoping we'd get some strong improvements to the story and things that were otherwise weak in BOTW. We did not. The additions are fun and strongly support the open world aspects of the game, allowing you to be creative and just kinda muck around in the game doing a lot of nothing for hundreds of hours... but because inventions in this game also lack permanence it can feel kinda hollow when you spend hours trying to design a hovercraft, only for it to despawn between save states.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has lived up to the high expectations created by the success of Breath of the Wild with its exquisitely intertwined gameplay systems, outstanding music, and a legendary story culminating in a magnificent denouement. It's not every day that such a special video game like this comes around. Truly the stuff of legend.
