This was easily one of the best games of the last 5 years, I would say it's the greatest Zelda game ever created. Not only is the story pretty good, the gameplay is just out of this world. Nintendo took the best things of Breath of the wild, and made them 10 times better. It's an easy Game Of The Year and a 10/10 for me.

The story is beautiful, simply beautiful and something I was looking for a long time, a game where I really felt like a hero, because all the battles are epic and not difficult at all.
I didn't know about The Legend of Zelda until recently, now I regret having spoken so badly about this series

Looking forward to the DLCS and of course the sequel

The return to traditional dungeons was welcome, and posed a much better and more intriguing challenge than the divine beasts. The gannondorf fight at the end was just the cherry on top with many challenging and unique phases, with a climax between clashing dragons in the sky. Easily the best game I've played in years.

You can barely go 2 minutes without finding something interesting to explore, meaning I constantly get sidetracked. How the developers got this game to work on the switch is incredible. The new mechanics mean that nearly every single thing on the map is interactive and can be used to make a useful/powerful weapon or make a vehicle. Dungeons in this game have stepped up from botw with even just getting into them being immensely enjoyable. They are a lot more puzzle based than in botw which I like. A really great story especially if you get all of the memories (which are by the way incredible). The new abilities bring on whole new ways to solve puzzles and different options. Then there is the map. People are complaining that the map is the same as botw and want something different. While the overworld map is similar (and what do you expect from a direct sequel) there are many differences making each little place worth visiting. There is also the addition of the sky islands and the depths. The sky islands are brilliant to look around in. You are trying to get somewhere but then you see an interesting island and you have to go and investigate it. The depths are the same size as the over world map with so many things to do like boss battles from dungeons or completely new bosses found nowhere else. The idea of exploring a huge area where you do not know anything about it and steadily lighting it up bit by bit appeals very much to me and I would say at least 30% of my play through so far has been spent in the depths. This game is REVOLTINARY! me, a game designer cannot fathom how this was built on a switch, compared to the last game Botw it is clear that they were designed by the same people with the same people in mind, Zelda players who like exploration, creativity and a little bit of trolling. And the story is AMAZING!

The game is much better than Breath of the Wild simply due to the fact that you can make a flying machine and get around the climbing that you had to do in the BoTW. It is also much bigger and direct continuation from that game which is nice if you really liked BoTW. I did not even get the climbing gear this time around because the flying machine that you can make really makes exploration so much easier, I recommend to do the Fire Temple ASAP so you can unlock the rest of your abilities and get the companion that blows up the giant explodable rocks that you encounter alot in the multitude of caves and mines you explore. New mechanics like creation make this game so fun, and if you aren't a builder it's ok, you don't have to use it and enjoy the game at your form, only it's necessary in shrines. Talking about the shrines, i consider them enjoyable but not as much as they were in botw, that is the only low point that i see, but it's ok.
I'm in doubt about the bosses and the temples. The temples are great, easiers than botw, but great. It's just that they turns repetitive as you progress. The bosses now feel more variated, but they are easy. Also, the final boss is better than Calamity Ganon and i LOVE IT, it's "easy" but i love it. In conclusion, i think that this game is perfect, cause they took botw and they perfected it, covering all the low points of this and making them more entertaining. To no one's surprise, this game is the definition of what open world games have to be. 10/10

I hate it when people start creating bots to downvote something good because they are fanboys for something else. And I also can't stand the fact that people rate something as 0/10 because of one big problem they have with it.
Because of this I won't give 9/10 but 10/10. I hate the terrible performance and graphical problems in Totk, too, but 0/10 on the other hand is absolutely unfair.

Because of this I won't give 9/10 but 10/10. I hate the terrible performance and graphical problems in Totk, too, but 0/10 on the other hand is absolutely unfair.

And those who rate this game as 0/10 because the story is "bad" or the characters "poorly" written, then they should stop buying Nintendo games because I can't remember any Nintendo game to be focused on a more than basic story with complex characters. Nintendo said already more than a decade ago that their focus is gameplay. The story is just a "pretence" to explain the world and not the main point of the game itself. GODDAMIT

TloZ: Tears of the Kingdom is a masterpiece. And of course nothing is perfect but it can get as close as possible. It makes Breath of the Wild (1) look like a demo because of the size of the world, the mechanics, the quests and YES even the story has a little more. Breath of the wild (1) didn't have as much story context/focus spread in the world and the quests as Totk has. There are story missions that give you context to what happened. But don't forget, the story still does not fill 99% of the time in the game.

Not to forget the musical improvement and the fascinating atmosphere because of the dynamic playback of single music notes depending on your interaction and position within the world.

But the biggest and most important plus here is the gameplay and the quests: Tears of the Kingdom is filled with quests and things to do which can suddenly create context to another quest, the main mission or a new area.
Botw(1) was way more basic when it came to quest and mission which were VERY often poorly rewarded so you stopped caring about sidequests after a while. But in Totk you get multiple rewards/items from certain quests. Some of them even give you great advantages, open new paths and improve your equipment.

The world is full of stuff and things to do. I don't get why people say things like:
"The entire world+story feels forced, and carried by a gimmick which distracts you from how empty and lifeless TOTK really is"
WTF MAN? did you even bother to enjoy the atmosphere? If you can't stand your own thoughts for one second you didn't get the Title "breath of the WILD". It's NOT "Breath of Duty: Modern wild II"
It's an open world game which give you atmosphere and time to breath the wild in.
    Get it?

Of course I consider that these type of critics are subjective and we all just say what we think about a game or movie. But when I give my opinion I also try to consider what it's made for and if I personally only can't stand some aspects of an art piece.

It's just that I absolutely don't agree people saying it's the same as Botw (1), nothing changed or that you don't know what to do.
This just shows you guys are NOT "made" for this type of games. You need something right in the face and don't like to think even a single second about the world and its possiblities.

As I said above: It's subjective, but statements like these are ignorant and just false.

    EDIT:
It seems haters have been caught mid-suavemente:

Given the way most AAA franchises are treated by studios, with routine and uninspired follow-ons or remakes (looking at you Assassin's Creed), this is a triumph from Nintendo. If you think this is a $70 DLC, or just two DLCs put together due to the sheer size of the world, then I just don't know what you expect out of a video game.

If you think this is a $70 DLC, or just two DLCs put together due to the sheer size of the world, then I just don't know what you expect out of a video game.

If you didn't like BotW, you won't like this. It has a much bolder storyline with some added creativity that feels like a (close) return to form of the narrative-driven Zelda that I missed in BotW. The world is still an open world, which means most of the side quests are still scattered in pockets – stables, villages, etc. But that was also the remarkable thing about BotW: you really could just go anywhere and they've retained that. But they've added some linearity to how you should progress, which I quite liked.

The main mechanical difference is the relationship between monster parts, materials, weapon breakability, and rupees with the new Fuse ability. Feels a lot more balanced vs. the hundreds of Bokoblin fangs you could gather in BotW only to be able to use them in...elixirs? A much needed upgrade.

Main complaints which I overlook for the sheer imagination and scale of this game:
    - Performance is extremely laggy in some areas. And that's with the internal witchcraft Nintendo already has to make this game seamless as possible.
    - The added collectibles. I felt like the orbs and Koroks were enough in BotW. Here, they've added even more and it's what most AAA franchises do to make the game "interesting" after you've beaten the main storyline.
    - The scattered armor sets. I felt like BotW rewarded you for exploring the world, whereas TotK requires you to. Good armor you could purchase, special armor was findable. The sheer size of the world requires many more hours to really find the good armor than probably should be required.

Many other aspects of BotW were improved: more linear main dungeons, a harder final boss fight, the ability to revisit main dungeon areas, and again, can we talk about that story?

TL;DR – it makes BotW look uninspired and simple, which is just saying this should be Game of the Year.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has lived up to the high expectations created by the success of Breath of the Wild with its exquisitely intertwined gameplay systems, outstanding music, and a legendary story culminating in a magnificent denouement. It's not every day that such a special video game like this comes around. Truly the stuff of legend.
