I have only played the game five and a half years after release and was impressed by how good it was. The gentle piano music while exploring the gigantic world makes for a relaxing adventure.

This game is a masterpiece. A BREATH of fresh air for the franchise, it truly brings new life to your typical adventure game. What is loses in lackluster dungeons and bosses, it makes up for in sheer scale. There is so much to do and explore, I simply wish the dungeons and story were given more effort.

However, I felt like the story, and lack of substantial dungeons really made it feel like a game that was not Zelda. I have always connected with the Zelda Franchise, more so with the games that had immersive dungeon experiences and a story that you cared about. This game was outstanding, but the actual substantial content seemed to be about the volume of small dungeons, small interactions, and small experiences rather than a cohesive whole. The DLC challenge mode was a bit of a joke, and just scaled characters' health rather than making the game a difficult one to attempt. Expand

A new evolving formula for the Legend of Zelda franchise! Does it succeed?

    Pros:
    + Visually beautiful.
+ Lots of stuff to do.
+ Combat while simple has its own mechanics.
    + Story seems interesting.

    Cons:
    - The bosses were a letdown.

I have t even fully beaten the game yet, but I already know that this game is amazing and worthy of a 10/10. The world is so huge, yet looks so good despite being on the switch for its entire life. The look and feel of this game has never been replicated ever on the switch. This game’s aesthetic and graphics looks miles better above other open world games like Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and Sonic Frontiers that came out nearly 6 years after this game came out. The combat system is also so fleshed out! The staffs are so fun, and the runes are the cherry on top of this giant $100,000 MrBeast golden banana sundae. I’m exited for the sequel as it fixing my main issues with the game with the new runes. It fixes the item durability, and scaling giant mountains that take 5 years to climb. Although rain sucks though. I hate the rain. All my homies hate the rain. Also, shrine are great, but I hate some of these like the dueling peaks shrines. I hated them. I also hate the fact that you can’t max out both stamina and hearts without glitches. This just gives people FOMO on whichever stat you don’t max out. Other than those issues, 11/10

Edit: so now, I’ve finished the game. I’m working on %100ing this game, but it’s kinda hard because of the koroks. Koroks are pretty useful early on when you could trade them in for inventory spaces, and hetsu’s gift is pretty funny, but it’s kinda just a waste of time getting all of the koroks. I also bought the DLC, and yeah, it’s pretty fun and heart warming. I still stand by my rating, even after I completed the game.

Breath of the Wild is the single-handed-ly best video-game I have ever played. This game is a bit of a mix, some elements are a bit disappointing but here are the pros and cons:

    Pros:

    Gameplay

    Replayability

    Memorable characters

    Exploration

    Glitches

    Hours you get out of

    Story

    Cons:

    Music

    Combat

    Dungeons

    So, starting with the pros:

The Gameplay is some of the best I have seen. Flying from Rito village to shield surfing down a mountain is just satisfying, the number of things to do and ways to play the game is amazing, the best I have ever seen.

The replayability in this game is amazing, I have played through this game over and over and I am still discovering new things and finding new locations. You could play through game repeatedly and still not find so many things, The hours though...

There are many memorable characters, the way Nintendo does this is great, from Ravioli’s Cockiness to Zelda’s Love is crazy compared to other games.

Exploration is crazy, Breath of the Wild changed the Idea of open world, letting the player do as much of they want and getting to do finish the game when they feel like it, the world is massive compared to anything else at the time and revolutionized open world.

The glitches in the game do not look good... But! For an open world game, it does not have many glitches compared to games like Cyberpunk, and the community only discovered the game-breaking glitches a couple of years after the game came out, if you look at them now, it does not look great but looking further it is great.

The hours you get out of it might seem like a con to some, put a big pro to others, this game is the most addicting I have ever played, and I have hundreds of hours on it, and like I mentioned before, there is way too much to do.

The story is good, not much compared to other Zelda games but it is overall good, the game focuses on the backstory and history of the world, being slightly barebone in the current time, but overall, solid.

    Now onto the Cons:

The Music is horrible compared to other Zelda games, they are masterpieces, while this is just a guy playing some keyboard notes every few seconds and is boring. I really think Nintendo could have done better but they did not put the effort in.

The combat in this game is barebones, if you use glitches this is the opposite, but the normal combat BORING. The only things you can do are normal attacks and spin attacks, that’s it. There are 3 types of weapons being Swords, Two-handed Swords, and spears, all with different fighting styles, but the combat is still boring.

The dungeons in this game are a bit disappointing coming from Zelda, the game series is all about them. The dungeons are not Horrible, but you get 120, yes 120 bite-sized dungeons that take 5-10 minutes + 4 Big dungeons that take about 20-30 Minutes, this is disappointing for Zelda.

Overall this is a masterpiece, end of story.

I'm giving it 1 because of good visuals, artstyle. Otherwise I'm deeply dissapointed. There are way better open world games, or RPGs, or "souls like" games than this, even on Switch.

I would not recommend such a game to anyone in their right mind, unless they have 1000 hours in their life with nothing better to fill it with, and there are plenty of games that do their thing in 10 hours and provide more enjoyment without the endless waste of time

About this game I enjoyed the ability to insert the player, from the beginning, in a vast and wild nature that you don't feel is yours, but in which you have to know how to live and feed. BOTW, is for this reason, in the first place, a huge survival experience. You know there is a story to carry on but what there is between two points of the plot is something of the highest quality and fun beyond imagination.

But not all that glitters is gold: I must to point out that I didn't fully appreciate the final part of the plot. The entire game, as many have emphasized, maintains a "low profile" plot because its focus is on the "wild" game play, but I do not think that this aspect could be a sufficient justification.

The finale is too fast and is not able to create solid memories in the player.

As far as open-world games go, this one is pretty unique, it has very innovative gameplay and fun exploration, what I think they didn't really do well is combat, with that awkward dodges and parries, unbalanced hit damage, and some boss fights that were pretty lackluster. The story is for kids, that's everything that I'm going to say, I gave it a 6.5/10 just because of the world-building, but without that is a 5/10 story if you have over 12 years old, and think that this is a good story you are a very odd individual, plus every side quest I did in the game was super lame. Cinematics and acting in general is very cringe, lip sync is absent btw. Loved the art style, animations, and everything sound related. Good game overall.

You are beset by mobs and then skeletons spawn from the ground to make it worst, you are then backed into a corner as the camera is pushed, dark-souls-like, into the back of link's head as he auto attaches to the wall, leaving you wondering why you can't do anything as an enemy kills you in one strike. The starting stamina is atrocious and is too slow to come back. Link doesn't simply move to where you want him to, but he does a little semi-circle circuitous move that punts you off of cliffs and makes it impossible to get onto ladders. All of this stuff came from skyward sword - the worst Zelda game.

I used to think that they could improve all of this for the next Zelda game. I now know different. Screw you, Nintendo!

It is quite common to get to places you can't defeat at that time, then you have to walk, walk, and walk more and grind, grind and grind more so you have to walk again and find other places you're not leveled up to face and then maybe you will be able to defeat the enemy from the befinning. You know that feeling you get when you play Dark Souls and there's a small cliff that you wish you could jump over but you can't. Or maybe you get that feeling from a different game like old Zelda games. This game full fills that feeling. While it might not have the best combat or dungeons, the open world is and freedom the game gives you makes up for it.

This game crafted a brand new physics and chemistry system and a ginormous world to explore. And the exploration and sense of freedom this game brings is what makes it so great. However, it is also a hugely flawed experience. The Divine Beasts are deeply underwhelming, the story is terrible, and the game is much too far removed from what made Zelda great in many respects. And now, the banality of the sidequests is laid bare by how excellent Tears's side adventures are. Tears would go on to address other flaws too, but not all of them and not always with great success.

This game's biggest asset is the huge, brand new world you explore. In this way, it wipes the floor with Tears' re-used map and somewhat underwhelming underworld. Whether you rate this game better than Tears depends on whether you consider the surrounding context: everything in this game is new, whereas a huge amount of Tears is re-used.

Soon after however, you really begin to enjoy and discover the open world and appreciate the effort developers put into this. BUT, eventually it begins to feel like a chore and you start to burn out. It becomes tiring to search for temples, tiring to collect additional heart and stamina containers, or increase inventory space, or replace weapons, or changing armour for weather or enemy type, or upgrading clothes or weapons. I found myself collecting all these for the sake of doing it, not for the fun of it.

I would have rated this game a 6 for the first 3 hours, and then a 10 for the next 20 hours, and eventually settle at 8 overall for what should be called Zelda Chores in the Wild.
Would be great to have voice overs instead of reading what felt like impossibly dry senseless dialogue accompanied by bizarre grunting noises. I had to lower the TV volume for fear my neighbours thinkinbg I'm watching porn (no joke).

I love that there are different communities and biomes within the world. I loved exploring every one of them one by one.

The shrines are impressive. They are amusing to solve, and also very rewarding. Increasing the stamina wheel incentivizes more exploring, leading to more shrines. It's a loop I couldn't escape. It feels very rewarding when you solve the puzzle. It makes you feel like you are the only one who could do it, as it doesn't give you any instructions. That is very satisfying.

The combat feels great. I like that weapons break. It forces you to try new weapons which present a variety and breaks monotony. I also like the food system.

There are some things that hold me off from giving this game a perfect score. Firstly, I didn't enjoy the majority of side missions. They are repetitive and dull. Also, the main story wasn't anything special. The final boss was extremely easy and disappointing. In addition, although the open world is amazing, there wasn't much to do in between the shrines.

    Still, a breathtaking game.

It's a very rewarding experience, and the world is absolutely massive with so many secrets and details, everything works as intended, which results in a masterfully crafted world full of life.

Finding shrines, doing puzzles, clearing camps and endlessly exploring the lands always feels fresh, there's a good amount of content within this game, and despite its repetitive nature, the game never actually gets repetitive.

As for the combat, it's decent, it might feel clunky at first but everything gets better once you get used to the controls. Also, the weapon durability can get in the way, it's a little bit annoying in the beginning, but it's not really an issue later on, there are so many ways to approach combat, to the point where using weapons isn't even necessary.

Weirdly enough, the physics play a huge role in the gameplay and I have to say... wow, the way every little thing coexists and interacts with each other is absolutely insane, and the attention to detail is groundbreaking.

There are so many things you can do, so many ways to interact with the world, use the environment as a tool or a weapon, solve puzzles in very creative ways and so much more. This game makes you think outside of the game, it treats the player as a smart person and gives you time to think before you act.

Breath of the Wild is a revolutionary game, and it changed the Open World formula forever, which inspired many other games to follow its steps.

    Final Rating: "Masterpiece" ~ 10/10.
