While you can certainly play it straight, it’s a lot better if you take all the weird detours it offers — and the end result is a game that, even if it’s not 100% unique, is still well worth checking out.

Combining horror narratives with comedy isn't exactly the easiest of tasks, yet The Innsmouth Case manages to successfully mix the extremely terrifying world of Lovecraft, with a pleasantly silly sense of humour. For a game that all you do is read, this has some great pacing, and a very high replay value, with plenty of different endings to discover. Sure, this is by no means a frightening tale, but its purpose isn't to offer eldritch terror. This is a new thing. It's eldritch comedy at its best.

Indie reveals a great passion for Lovecraftian imagery, but unfortunately fails to pay homage to it to its full potential.

I've actually read Lovecraft and there is literally nothing "problematic" in his works. I'm sick of wke developers making money off my favorite horror author while insulting him and his legacy. I swear, the way these people talk you'd think Lovecraft had slaves in the basement which he whipped every day while wearing a klan mask. Developers, SHUT THE FK UP.

As if that weren't enough, the game DOESN'T take place in late 19th century, early 20th century, AS YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM A LOVECRAFT GAME. The developers felt the need to "modernize" it with cringe inserted current day stuff like internet, phones, etc. It's done extremely poorly. A Lovecraft game should NOT feel like it was written by Taika Waititi on crack. Tone is everything.

Developers are sitting on a goldmine with Lovecraft, yet the only ones making games are the ones who hate Lovecraft. Read the story instead.

For a game which is essentially a book, it had too many typographical errors. I could not go on playing.
