It’s hard to believe that The Binding of Isaac has been around for a decade. And in that time, not only hasn’t the spark of creativity diminished, but the game just kept getting bigger and better. And I really believe that with Repentance, we’ve reached the best possible version of the game. Not only is it challenging, but it’s well balanced. This is a love letter for fans, especially considering how cheap the DLC is for those that already own Afterbirth+. If you’re a fan of tight, twin-stick rogue-likes, you can’t miss playing The Binding of Isaac: Repentance.

Repentance by name, and wonderful, welcome repentance by nature, this expansion is an apology for what became of Isaac and a promise to do better — a promise that it very much delivers on.

While it's good to finally see a Repentance DLC for Switch coming after nearly a year, it fails to be a pleasant experience that you would like to complete. Sadly, even with a day-one optimization patch game still runs poorly in some areas (i.e. Downpour and Mirrored World, Dross) and it also doesn't have the latest 1.7.5 and 1.7.6 patches that greatly improved game's mechanics and fixed ton of bugs. I don't regret buying it tho, and I still hope that more optimization patches will come in future, but sadly it's quite a disturbing experience for now, especially if you are doing some crazy combos.

While there is a lot of new contents, I would say this DLC has a real problem with balance.

Because they decided to make it more hard for veteran players, they decided to nerf a lot of items, kinda buff some others (that were not really good or useful in any kind of run), make ennemies much harder and add new bosses even more hard (with sometimes unfair and unavoidable attacks).

Even after player for 350h on Afterbirth +, the difficulty curve was really steep. It took me 15h just to be the new Corpse Mother, even on normal mode. The thing is that before doing this, you cannot really unlock anything new (except Bethany). To unlock all the tainted characters you need to first beat Corpse Mother, then do a run for every character to do a Beast run (which, in comparison, is a **** joke because it is really easy).

After more than 80h of play I can say that I got used to the new difficulty and I can enjoy the game more, but a lot of people will stop before that. On the contrary, some new characters like Bethany or Tainted Lilith are just owerpowerful and you can easily get every marks on hard, while impossible to do just a normal Satan run with Tainted Lazarus or Tainted Jacob.

Maybe the issues will get fixed as time goes by, but I highly doubt it. For 30$, I think it is kind of an expensive DLC that is mostly accessible to people who are already veteran on TBOI.

If you want to make a game that has so many input possible to play with, at least make sure that it will not 75% of the time be unfair to the player lol.
