Nintendo Force MagazineApr 28, 2020If regular kart racing has begun to feel too routine, then you should definitely give this one a go! [Issue #41 – September 2019, p. 72]
-
Jun 2, 2019A nice and ingenious twist to karting games. Perfect to compete with friends or have a nice time sharing leadership.
-
Jun 7, 2019If you’re looking for an enjoyable alternative after playing Mario Kart 8 for the past five years, Team Sonic Racing smoothly drifts its way to a decisive silver trophy. Start your engines!
-
May 24, 2019Team Sonic Racing is yet another solid racer from Sumo Digital and a must for those looking for something fresh beyond Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. While the team-based aspects may not leave quite the same mark that Transformed’s changing tracks and car to boat to plane racing did it’s still a heap of fun and easily one of the more unique ideas the genre has seen for some time.
-
May 29, 2019Despite being in the shadow of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Team Sonic Racing crosses the finish line as a solid kart racer in its own right. With a fun teamwork mechanic, solid presentation, fantastic score, and a cheap entry fee, I would highly recommend Team Sonic Racing for kart racing fans looking for their next fix.
-
May 28, 2019As a single-player experience, Team Sonic Racing is a competent, if entirely derivative, kart racer with a great cast of characters and vibrant, inventive tracks. But in multiplayer modes, it excels and stands out in its crowded field with new and exciting innovations and cooperative features that challenge the tried-and-true formula.
-
May 28, 2019Team Sonic Racing is the perfect addition to the Switch’s kart racing lineup. It’s a fast and exciting roller coaster of a racer with the style and spunk you’d expect from the Sonic series. While it doesn’t perform on the Switch as well as on other consoles, that doesn’t change the fun of speeding through this iconic universe.
-
Jul 8, 2019Team Sonic Racing is fun and enjoyable kart mascot racing game. Even with its few faults, it can be enjoyable for the whole family or just in singleplayer.
-
Jun 3, 2019Team Sonic Racing is a fun, competent and well executed kart racing game that could benefit from being more ambitious but overall, it does very well what it proposes and acts as another good example of a game that gathers a cast of characters from one of SEGA's most popular universes.
-
May 24, 2019Team Sonic Racing is a decent kart racing game that you’d do well to try out. It handles really well and, despite running at a mere 30FPS, looks pretty good for the most part. However, the team mechanic is entirely unnecessary to the experience, and the game just simply doesn’t match up to Nintendo’s own karting effort.
-
May 24, 2019Although I found a few cracks in the facade, I still had some decent fun with this game. The Sonic aesthetic is plastered over every surface, the songs kick you out of your chair, and teamwork system adds a lot of mileage. Some of the campaign stages landed with more grace than others, but the races themselves feel great. I’m even ready to go back and scoop up some of the completion markers I missed the first time around. I might not have the patience for any more Mod Pod shopping, however. In spite of its flaws, Team Sonic Racing is a fine and fast-paced chapter in the annals of Sonic gaming. If you’re looking for a fun romp with the Blue Blur and his pals, definitely check this one out.
-
May 23, 2019Mod pods aside, the game's few weak points do little to weaken the thoroughly enjoyable kart racer that they inhabit. Team Sonic Racing is a blast to play alone, online, or at home with friends, and it's more than worth its $40 price tag.
-
May 22, 2019Taken on its own merits, Team Sonic Racing is a fun karting game that doesn’t quite match Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in terms of either performance or sheer level of content, but still offers satisfying handling and should still keep Sonic fans entertained for a while. It’s impossible not to compare it to its predecessor, though, and in all the areas where Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed excelled, Team Sonic Racing is merely competent. By no means a bad game, then, but when we look back years from now it won’t be standing on any karting game podiums.
-
May 29, 2019To be sure, Team Sonic Racing isn’t really a bad game. It works, and even if it’s a little lacking in personality, it has polish. But there’s a vast gulf between solid (which is what this is) and good (which is how I’d describe previous Sonic racing games), and it’s very clear that this game is stuck firmly on the “solid” side.
-
Jun 24, 2019Team Sonic Racing is competent and fun, but also unimaginative and uninteresting. You’re not going to love it, you’re not going to hate it - you’re simply going to shrug.
-
Jun 17, 2019Team Sonic Racing is a great kart racer in it's own right, but one I don't see myself coming back to after the credits finish rolling.
-
Jun 4, 2019The Switch version of Team Sonic Racing is still a good game. It still has an interesting mechanic, addictive (but microtransaction-free) loot boxes that can make you change up the cars you race in. The story is nonsense, but the racing is fun, but it’s just such a strange game to put out when you consider the competition. Regardless, this is an alright version of a good game.
-
May 23, 2019What you get with Team Sonic Racing is what you honestly better than you might expect from any modern game bearing the Sonic moniker. It’s a flawed but mostly competent kart racer that is budget priced and might be fine for kids who like the blue hedgehog and his furry friends.
