  • Summary: Dive into Super Skelemania, a single-sitting metroidvania about an acrobatic skeleton. Jump over a pit of thorns, roll your skull like a bowling ball, or headbutt a spider like any good skeleton would.

Super Skelemania is a passable – if mostly superfluous – effort in a sea of similar games. The satisfying movement mechanics you uncover ensure that the hour you spend playing won’t feel wasted, but whether you’ll feel compelled to pick it up again – or if you soon struggle to recall ever having played it in the first place – is another matter. Nonetheless, there are certainly less competent, and more cynical releases to filter through on the eShop.

The combat is super basic and the few bosses are less than remarkable, but the exploration is done well and the game has it's charm.
The major flaw is how dark some areas are. It's so hard to see that if I didn't see play testers credited, I'd assume there were none. It's not game breaking, but really sours those portions of the game and there's no excuse for not just upping the brightness.
I got this game because I had gold points expiring that I didn't want to waste. I don't see much replay value, but at about 2.5 hrs it was worth my $1.99 in gold.

It's slightly spoiled by a baffling design decision: some areas are way too dark. On the other hand, the movement upgrades are original and fun to learn. Super Skelemania is a very small game (you may finish it in an hour or two), but what it does, it does well enough. Expand
