Easily one of the most fun Mario releases in the franchise. Nintendo seemed to have approached Odyssey with just enough nostalgia mixed in with their new Cappy system. Beating the initial game was easy enough, but farming the post-ending moons and making it to the additional worlds was another game in and of itself. It promotes replaying each world and collecting all of the challenging moons during the second playthrough, forcing you to master some of the more complex controls that you may not have had to use often the first time around. This game is amazing. I love the mechanics. Just like 64 and Sunshine, this game has amazing controls and moves that Mario can do. But, when you finish the game, there’s nothing much to do. You can get the moons, but there really isn’t any point for that.

Epic. Simply Epic. This game is the best Mario game ever. Super Mario Odyssey harkens back to Super Mario 64 as an open sandbox type game and this is what makes this game so great. I can't describe it, but combined with "Cappy" where you can throw your hat, which is already great, but with the addition of capturing your enemy is genius game design. My favourite game. It have enjoy it more than Breath of the Wilde. It a game to play to play hundreds of hours and many times. The playability is brilliant, it can't be better.
The history is corrent and is graphically nice. The main game lasts 16h but, but it last a hundred hours, ore more, to collect all the moons.

Here is why. Mario feels perfect to control. There are so many options to move around massive, beautiful, and breathtaking locations like a colorful volcano made up food, a rusty greenhouse and deep scary forest controlled by friendly robots, the black and white cap kingdom, and even bower's castle is unique, having a Japanese/samurai theme. Mario moves perfectly, the controls are the best in any Mario game, and there is so much to see and do. Many mini games, like racing, playing volleyball, doing jump robe, racing tiny micro-machines, and so much more not counting the main collectible, moons. Like with Super Mario 64, you can collect the moons in (mostly) any order you choose. However this time Moons are much more common and you can collect them in many different unique ways like planting and watering seeds, completing an obstacle course, finding hidden treasure, getting a high enough score in a mini game, ground pounding in certain spots, solving a puzzle, using hint art, or even just finding them lying around randomly. However, this game's biggest feature is the capture mechanic. Instead of traditional power-ups, Mario can you his new companion Cappy to possess almost every enemy in the game to solve puzzles, defeat bosses, collect hidden moons, or even just for faster travel. Story missions are fun and varied, and you can even skip most of them if you so choose. This a speed runner's heaven, as there are so many tricks, secrets, and shortcuts to find and discover to shave seconds and make your run extra efficient. This is especially true with the amazing controls. If you are looking at getting into speed-running, this is the place to start. Super Mario Odyssey is a masterpiece beyond words, and if you have a Nintendo Switch it is a sin to not have this game in your library, physical or digital. Even if you somehow don't have a switch yet, this game alone should sell you on it. It sure did for me. Expand

Super Mario Odyssey is literally my favorite game of all time. It is really the successor to Super Mario 64 in almost every aspect. Like really, it does a lot of things so well. I've just finished the game (100%) for the second time and it's just that good.

The story of this game is simple and straight to the point. It is very easy to follow and it's not just like your generic Mario game. Sure, Princess Peach got captured again, but this time it's different. I won't get to details because spoilers, and I want this review to be as helpful as possible. It may not be as good as Galaxy 1, but I do appreciate the amount of effort put into the story itself.

Throughout the game you will go through a lot of kingdoms that have never been explored in any Mario game until now. Every kingdom gets the sense of freedom, platforming, fun... just right. Cappy is the new ally which will help you throughout the game. And he is just perfect. If F.L.U.D.D. from Mario Sunshine was good, Cappy is just perfect. The amount of stuff you get to do with him is incredible. Some people say he's broken, and I don't agree with them because 1 important reason. If the game wasn't designed around all these things he can do, sure, he would be broken, but... The game IS designed around Cappy himself. There a lot of places that Cappy can go over, and the game lterally congratulates you for doing those amazing jumps. And the capture mechanic is just... perfect. It is literally the evolution of power-ups in older Mario games, and I love it. The main collectables here are power moons. there are over 800 of these. Some are easy to get, and some are well hidden. Also there are these exclusive purple coins per kingdom that with them you can buy outfits, and also the fact coins DO matter in this game. I swear, this game i sooooo different from any Mario game, that is probably why I consider it my favorite game of all time. The graphics are pretty nice to look at and the music... phenomenal.

Even though it's my fav game, it does have some flaws. The motion controls (that are incredibly well done btw) are very stiff to use in handheld mode, and also that you don't get a lot for 100% this game. So U reccomend you to 100% this game if you're a hardcore Mario fan or just simply a Completionist.

There are a lot of stuff I haven't talked about but you get the point. Super Mario Odyssey is a must play. It is soooo different it's just soooo good. Hope you all try it because, believe me, it's worth 60 bucks.

I personally have never liked 3D platformers and collectathons but SMO has the be the greatest one I've played yet. It has a ton of unique and very fantastic worlds that allow the most creative way of traversing the levels thanks to Cappy and helping you transform into the enemy's. This was a GOTY contender so you already now that this game is very high quality.

Super Mario Odyessey is like Super Mario World's sister and Super Mario Land's brother. With the epic experience that Super Mario World brought, the addition of kingdoms from Super Mario Land, along with more enemies, and the 3D feel of Super Mario 64, this is a true masterpiece.

The games graphical style is varied and filled with whimsy, and the same can be said about the score. Almost everything about this game is pure perfection. Almost.
I only had one real gripe with my time with Odyssey. The role the motion controls play is far too prevalent. There is a setting to "turn off" motion controls but then you're advanced movement mechanics are essentially wiped out. I could very well be a bumbling idiot and just not be able to find button combinations for these mechanics, but, in my defence, those combinations should not be hard to find.
With all that said, Super Mario Odyssey is a milestone in modern gaming and will be revered for years to come. It is an instant classic.

Super Mario Odyssey is an awesome game, and it's a loveletter to everyone who's been playing Mario since back in the day. The controls and movement are smooth as butter, tight, and so satisfying. EachSuper Mario Odyssey is an awesome game, and it's a loveletter to everyone who's been playing Mario since back in the day. The controls and movement are smooth as butter, tight, and so satisfying. This game goes right up there with 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy, taking the super fun 3d Mario mechanics and refining them, and then going all in on the level design and exploration elements. Each kingdom you visit has its own charm with so many things to discover and have fun with. The music, the graphics, the controls, the gameplay, it's all so so good. Each kingdom is completely full of content and someone going through for the first time will find dozens of hours in it to explore everything. No idea how they'll top this with the next 3d Mario.

There are a couple small reasons that my rating is a 9/10 instead of a 10/10. One is that there are some weird quirks to the motion controls. I found myself discovering moves I had no idea Mario could do well over halfway through the game because I moved the controller by accident, making Mario throw his hat a certain different way or something. It also seemed like there wasn't a way to do some of the hat throws without using motion controls which is a bummer - I found throwing the hat in a circle around you in particular to be very inconsistent and annoying to execute. If there's a way to do that without motion controls, I would have loved to know it for my playthrough of the game.

The other reason is that some of the kingdoms (like the Wooded kingdom) are absolutely amazing. They are full to the brim with enticing exploration opportunities, innovative level design, and just dripping with charm. I got absolutely lost in the Wooded Kingdom the first time I went there and just lost 3-4 hours running around doing whatever. Then there are other kingdoms that are... just a bit more bland. They're not bad, or boring, they're just not quite up to the level of some of the others. In these kingdoms, I was glad I was done with them by the time I got to the end so that I could get to better ones. It's not to say I had a bad time with any of the kingdoms, but some definitely outshine others.

Overall this is such an amazing game from Nintendo that takes everything that made 64 and Sunshine so awesome back in the day and refines it down to the last detail. This is a must-play game for everyone with a Switch.

Mario Odyssey is nice, the movement is what really got me into it. This game is packed with challenges and stages that are super satisfying to blaze through once you get good with the complex jumps and bounces, yet accessible enough that a 6 year- old can play the game. I absolutely love how Nintendo rewards those players who choose to challenge themselves to reach places that look as though they aren't accessible, and rewards us with big shining piles of coins.

Every single kingdom also feels different, and you can always choose to travel the straight- forward path, or if you want to challenge yourself to be able to skip the more tedious parts. The bosses are a great example of this, where all of the bosses take several minutes to beat, but can be defeated in less than 30 seconds if you really know what you are doing. It is just so satisfying to skip the longer phases of boss fights, given that you dare to challenge yourself.

The kingdoms are also beautiful, and are large enough that your movement doesn't feel limited, but are not so big that the size slows you down. When this is accompanied by a great musical score, every moment of collecting power moons and searching for purple coins becomes amazingly fun.

The story itself, and core gameplay is not that great, however, and never require you to do anything more than a basic jump. It is such a shame that Nintendo didn't make this game a bit harder, and didn't encourage the players to challenge themselves more. I have recommended this game to countless people I know, and some have told me they didn't like it, as it was to easy and bare- bones, and I totally see how players feel this when they don't actively try to challenge themselves.

For those that do, however, this game is an absolute blast, and nearly perfect for a game centred around gameplay, rather than story.

While it was difficult to imagine how Nintendo could top previous 3D Mario adventures, Super Mario Odyssey is nigh-on perfect in almost every way. With the help of Cappy, Mario has never been as fun to control, reaching new heights and, in the hands of a skilled player, accomplishing impossible skips. You need only pick up a controller to see why this is the best modern Mario game ever.
