    Overall, the design of Super Hyperactive Ninja is fun and engaging, but I think that more could have been done with the caffeine theme to make it feel less generic. The music is good and though the gameplay can be frustrating, people who love a challenge with find Super Hyperactive Ninja to be worth their time.

    This crossover between ninjas and coffee has good ideas but its level design is somewhat chaotic and its gameplay can frustrate the player. Caffeine has managed to decentralize a good playable core and turn it into a somewhat unstable game.

    Cheap level design, uninspired visuals, and poor controls make this a game that’s difficult to recommend, but moments of enjoyable gameplay can still be found for those who look hard enough. Even so, there’s no shortage of excellent platformers on the eShop at the moment, so you’d be best served passing on this one. If you’re looking for a challenging, retro-inspired side scrolling ninja game, go play The Messenger instead.

    A quite good game, despite its flaws and lack of production values. Music is cool (chiptune-style) but there is only two themes for each "world" (one when normal, and the other for hyperactive) and as you die a lot it ends being repetitive soon.

    The game itself is pretty well designed around its main mechanic, the hyperactive mode. While in normal, the game is your usual platformer, you can move around your character and jump. And at first that's pretty much all. When you enter hyperactive (holding down the ZR button) the character starts running really fast and only changes direction when hitting a wall. You can use this to wall jump and reach parts of the level you couldn't before.

    There is a charge time to enter hyperactive mode, and when you release the ZR button to stop using it, the character has to rest a while to catch his breath. If you leave hyperactive mode near an enemy that's quite a sure death, as it will come and kill you while you're resting. That's where a lot of the deaths will come, at least until you learn what's a safe space and what not.

    At first, I faced the game with a trial and error mind, but at the end, having learnt how the enemies work I could plan beforehand. The game can get really hard sometimes and may frustrate some players.

    As you advance you unlock other characters with different attributes and an equipped item. Those items can be used by any character, but the characters you unlock come each with 3 items at the start of any level. These characters can be used to revisit some levels and play them in new ways.

    At the end of each world there is a boss battle. To defeat the boss you usually have to use the item you just unlocked. Boss levels can be easier than regular levels, but are a change of pace that is welcome.

    To sum up, a good game. Maybe not the best platformer available for Switch (as there are a lot of games), but has pretty good ideas and I've been having a good time playing it. I got it on preorder for less than 5$, but it's worth its full price    … Expand
