Super Bomberman R is the game that Switch needed at its beginning. Quick plays and lots of action with your friends in a very entertaining game that brings back the nostalgia.

Super Bomberman R makes a great party game if you have your hands on some extra Joy-Cons or Pro controllers, and playing with up to eight of your friends or at a party can be one hell of a time. The online options are also there if you want to play with friends or with strangers around the world. The boss battles even manage to make the single player game worth playing though, and that's almost unprecedented for the series. It's games like this that show the Switch is more than just a Zelda machine.

The White Bomber and family head up a worthy return for the Nintendo Switch. Barring hiccups with online lag and repetitious voice clips, Super Bomberman R is a satisfying candidate for multiplayer competitions and online battles.

If you're looking to share the joy with your friends at launch, Super Bomberman R is your best bet, but for those flying solo, it might be a less fulfilling experience.

An absolute joy to play with gameplay that's as explosively addictive as ever. Besides a few minor complaints, I couldn't be happier that Bomberman's back in a modern interpretation of the series.

The in-game currency decision was a head scratcher, as it adds an unwelcome grinding element to much of the gameplay. If you can look past that, then there’s a decent campaign and the same addictive multiplayer Bomberman is known for sitting at this launch title’s explosive core.

Super Bomberman R is a surprise winner in the Switch launch line-up, and well worth considering for old-school players, multiplayer enthusiasts and lovers of cute things.

I've got a huge soft spot for Super Bomberman R; it's a gentle throwback to simpler times, and a welcome revival for a local multiplayer classic for what's set to be an outstanding local multiplayer machine. An effective slice of nostalgia, then, albeit one that comes at a considerable price.

Power ups return from previous games, and the appeal and timeless gameplay is pretty self explanatory here. As a home console game and portable multiplayer system out of the box, it represents the strong appeal this IP represents for single and local multiplayer. Having a 2 joy con controllers out of the box with the Switch is very helpful, allowing 2 players from the get go...

Playing through multiple modes and taking on bosses is a blast (i dont recall the boss battles being this fun in the early ones).

Along with Zelda Breath of The Wild and 1-2 Switch, this is one of the 3 essential launch titles.

Not great. The lack of a level selection screen is bad enough but the voice acting is terrible! I wish the characters weren't trying to be funny! 4/10

GoodAs someone who long lost interest in the Bomberman series and wasn't putting any faith at all in this game, I was pleasantly surprised. Good characters, good humour, good gameplay, all things that I never expected to see again from a ip owned by Konami, seing their recent distancing from games as a whole. It's a good experience if you like Bomberman games. Full Review »
