This is one of the more unheralded Super Nintendo JRPGs, but the update is of a high quality, and while I don’t think it’s a classic example of the genre by any means, it is still a very enjoyable game. A clean, enjoyable combat system, plenty of enemies to fight, and a bit of exploration and puzzle solving on the side; this is the kind of classic JRPG experience that I’ll never get tired of.

Allowing you to pick your own heir to the throne and affect direct change across a whole country is impressive, making the story feel like its your own. This is emotionally strengthened by other elements like permadeath. While it can be frustrating to play at times, it is absolutely worth experiencing Romancing SaGa 2; a truly hidden gem in the Square Enix library.

A game that we recommend to jrpg enthusiasts who do not fear experiences of gameplay sui generis.

After 24 years, Romancing SaGa 2 finally comes to the West with a few add-ons and a subtle graphics restyling. This is an old-school RPG which offers a different take of the classic formula, building the progression system around the skill points instead of the experience. This is surely not for everybody, but if you can live with heavy grinding, high difficult curve and laggy controls, this game could really entertain you for several weeks nowadays, still.

The Skill Points system was a great bet, since it's faster than the experience system. On the other hand, the high difficulty of the enemies in addition to the lack of specification of a clear plot, will give you serious headaches.

Romancing SaGa 2 is a welcome return, proof that the RPGs of the past still have something to offer. But despite fascinating mechanics, its porting nature from the mobile version penalizes the entire production.

Romancing SaGa 2 makes its debut in EU after the '93 release with new HD graphics, but the port is the same we saw on mobile devices.

Romancing SaGa 2 is really intriguing new JRPG. The combat system has a great sense of depth thanks to its distinctive take on levelling, the inclusion of formations and how the player is held accountable for each party member. The kingdom management aspects also provide a greater sense of player agency and helps set it apart from conventional role-playing games. Due to this design, the story and character development – including the dialogue throughout – aren’t quite as refined as other Square Enix titles. Regardless, the entire concept has aged surprisingly well – even by modern standards.

Romancing SaGa 2 is an alluring blend of esoteric and impenetrable that is as vexing as it is fascinating.

Romancing SaGa 2 has a certain old school charm that invites any old school RPG fan to give it a shot. I don’t think it’s as polished as Square Enix’s other titles that came out during this ’90s era, but it’s something worth investing in if you want a different take on the standard RPG formula. It’s not for everybody, but Romancing SaGa has enough good qualities to give it a go if you’ve never played it before.

With appropriate updates and feelings of nostalgia, Romancing SaGa 2 feels like a game from the 1990s, but looks a lot more polished.

Overall Romancing SaGa 2 was a good game for its time, though the lack of an instruction manual for this version really hurts the enjoyment of it. After all the pros and cons are factored in, it really boils down to a very mediocre RPG.

Romancing Saga 2 is a game very much trapped in the early 90s, while it’s great to see a title translated into English after all this time, it’s a shame that it’s one that offers very little fun or entertainment.

Romancing SaGa sub-series are considered like the best on the franchise and Romancing SaGa 2 is a very good example.

    Positive:
+The battle system is actually the second best on the series (i consider the best SaGa: Scarlet Grace) with a lot of forms to play it and use very well the turn-based system an LPs system. I give it 9/10.

+The world feels alive and very interesting to explore, with tons of localizations and dungeons filled with enemies and NPCs to talk. I give it 9/10

+The Bosses are the best from the Romancing SaGa sub-series. In the other RS games the bosses had something interesting, but they didn't felt like they were something alive, but here, the thing changes and now you are feelling like they actually want to kick your ass. I give it 10/10

+The soudntrack is amazing! the composer is the genius Kenji Ito, who is considered the main compositor of the SaGa series. The game contains memorable songs like "Battle 1" or "The Seven Heroes' Battle". 10/10

+The plot behind this Romancing SaGa is by far, the best from the Romancing SaGa sub-series. But that doesn't means it is flawless. Romancing SaGa 2 starts about how the seven heroes saved prevously the world, and then how they were forgotten. You are the emperor and your will is to protect the empire from the fallen seven heroes. Yes, it sounds interesting, but in the game it doesn't explain that much how they become evil and that stuff. I give it 7/10

    Negetive:
-This game it's very difficult, i mean, i've died like tons of times and it's kinda frustrating for me.

-The lack of plot at some points of the game.

OVERALL: 9/10. A very solid game with some flaws, but that doesn't make it less fun (Expect a lot of fun from this game)
