While it has it's shortcomings, Rise of the Third Power is still a wonderful JRPG with great gameplay and music that Switch fans, JRPG fans and quite frankly - History fans, will definitely enjoy.

It reminded me of SNES era RPGs, in terms of graphics, music, and gameplay. The battles are snappy, with some really nice animation. The writing was very humorous at times, and the plot was very clear and easy to follow. The map and quest are large enough to feel epic, but not overwhelming. Every side quest feels meaningful and ties into the story or main characters in some way, which made me feel like I was never wasting my time completing them. The weak points for me would be that the character portraits don't seem as well done as the pixel art, and some of the more serious plot points don't seem as well written as the humorous portions. If you're looking for a fun, SNES style rpg with a nice story, definitely give this one a try! Full Review »

Do you call Blazblue and Skull Girls good for a throwback to Streetfighter 2? No you don't.

I think it's a bit of a **** insult when reviewers praise **** games all the time, then turn around for a great game and insinuate that it's alright for a SNES throwback nostalgia trip and don't jusge it on its own merit.

Anyway, I'm only 4 hours in. I'll update my review later. For now it's 8.5/10.

I just got Eastward the same time as this and that got praised like hell. I've already deleted it. That was like a ****ty copy of an old SNES Zelda game but with snide graphics, snide sound, awful boring dialogue and crap combat. Yet 100 and 90 scores on that. That is my thing too. I was always action adventure RPG, over story driven turn based.

I sometimes wonder what planet these "pro" reviewers are on.
