Quake returns in a feature-rich remaster that delicately updates the classic FPS, adding lots of optional bells and whistles, packing in a ton of content and delivering the definitive way to play this 25-year-old masterpiece in the process. There's a wealth of online and co-op options here, a glorious new expansion to blast through from MachineGames, super slick performance in both docked and handheld modes and it's all available at a cracking price point. This really is a stellar port of one gaming's true greats and an absolutely essential addition to your Switch library.

Obviously, if you’ve played Quake at any point in the last 25 years, there’s probably not a pressing need for you to pick it up on current-gen systems — it’s basically the same game here that you could’ve played at any time in the last few decades. But if you want to see a seminal first-person shooter that’s aged surprisingly well, be sure to hunt this one out.

Ultimately this is as perfect a port of Quake as anyone could have ever hoped for. The single player campaign is not extraordinary but is always fun, and the multiplayer is still rock solid all these years later. With the low price point this is quite simply an essential download.

Quake is still an incredible game that holds up well even today. You get a ton of content for the price, and on top of that, there's so much replayability between the various difficulties and multiplayer options. While I wish some effort would have been made to modernize some archaic elements, they don't take away too much from the overall experience. If you're a fan of shooters at all, Quake should absolutely have a place in your Switch library.

Quake's remastered port to Nintendo Switch is proof that big video game companies don't need to treat their fans with disrespect when it comes to bringing back old classics. The level of content for such a small price is unmatched, and that is forgetting a whole new expansion pack was created for this release, too. The fact that everything can be completed cooperatively in multiplayer means less skilled players can enjoy getting through with the help of others, and then there are deathmatches for some of the best arena FPS action around. Well done to all involved in this.

If you missed Quake back in the day, this port is a fantastic way to experience this genre-defining work, especially for fans of 2016's DOOM. While a lot of the old-school design choices may feel simple by modern standards, it results in an elegantly intense game that's still an addicting delight to pick up for even a short session of a few minutes. Quake is an old title, but a must play if you like fast paced first person shooters. The essence of Quake is in it’s gameplay, being the main reason to give this title a chance.

It's very nice that the developers left the game with minimal changes. On the other hand, perhaps the game should have been ported to one of ID Tech's new engines while retaining the limitations of the original game. Anyway, I'm very happy with what the development team has done. In my dreams I will wait for Quake 2. Expand

About time Quake started to get some attention. A far superior classic FPS to Doom, but Doom sucked all the oxygen out the room. Quake 1 and 2About time Quake started to get some attention. A far superior classic FPS to Doom, but Doom sucked all the oxygen out the room. Quake 1 and 2 are masterpieces, no question. Quake 1 is more barebones, but still solid as hell, with good difficulty curve (it gets pretty tough). There is so much content for the money, and even the option to download 'add-ons' like the full N64 version of Quake. Really a no brainer to buy this and value for money is crazy good. well done on this flawless Switch port. Expand

"All in all, Quake Remastered is an excellent remaster of an excellent shooter. Visually, they’ve done a great job making it look a lot better"All in all, Quake Remastered is an excellent remaster of an excellent shooter. Visually, they’ve done a great job making it look a lot better whilst also remaining faithful to the original. It’s also jam-packed full of content, but a really cheap price. Quake is a legendary shooter for a reason, and this remaster helps make it shine even brighter. The expansions may be a little inconsistent in quality, and a few extra Quality of Life options wouldn’t have gone amiss, but this is a must buy for fans of old school shooters, especially at this price. An absolute bargain."

The game is an exercise in frustration and I grew tired of the gameplay, it also shows as a reminder as to the progression of modern FPS games and how quality of life features and improved game design have vastly increased the fun factor of this genre. I completely disagree with critics reviews of this game and it makes me question whether they were just living on nostalgia. Expand
