One time, when I was 7 years old, my parents promised to throw me an amazing birthday party. Then two days before my birthday I got a bad grade on an exam and got grounded for a week, the whole birthday thing went down the toilet. I thought that would be the most disappointing moment of my life.
    Then I played this game.

Let’s Go also doesn’t do the Nintendo Switch justice in strictly technical terms. In stark contrast to Nintendo’s own blockbusters such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, the 2.5D world of Let’s Go is made of simple, flat textures with terrible lightning and very limited animations, more fitting for a mobile or handheld game than a fully priced console release. Expand

Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee are ridiculously easy games that cannot be lost under any circumstances, to the point that it's difficult to really call them games. Experience share cannot be turned off resulting in the player always being incredibly higher level than their opponents, and if they got any ideas about doing something earlier than before they would have a 100% chance of success, the game will outright prevent them, requiring players to have the tools needed to easily beat every boss before they fight them. Catching Pokemon is now a mindless affair that has players throw balls at Pokemon as they put up no resistance whatsoever, effectively turning the entire game into the Safari Zone from previous titles.

The game is a remake of the original Pokemon Red and Blue that offers nothing of its own, instead dumbing down an already easy game to the point of unplayability. You don't have to be a skilled gamer to be appalled at the lack of challenge in these games, as there is so little challenge that there is no real gameplay as the game plays itself, with the "player" as more of a spectator. Nearly all advances the series has made have been left in the dust in the attempt to make the game appeal to a more casual audience. The Pokemon Company has deleted abilities, held items, and over half of the moves in the Pokemon franchise's extensive library seemingly at random. Only generation one Pokemon are present in the game, as the game pretends that the advances the series has made in the past 22 years don't exist. The gameboy advance remakes of Red and Blue, Fire Red and Leaf Green, were far more respectful to the franchise as a whole, as well as having any semblance of difficulty.

Despite the greatly overhauled graphics, it somehow manages to feel less enjoyable running around Kanto than the last time I was able to back in Leaf Green.

However, there is a role for this game as an entry point for new players. It looks a lot prettier than the older games and they decided to tone down the difficulty to a ridiculously easy level. I would definitely recommend this game for new players to acquaint themselves with the Kanto region and the original 151 pokemon. For players who have even touched another game in the series, this game will get boring very fast.

Overall, this is a fairly uninspired Kanto reboot, and I hope that Pokemon doesn't continue moving in this direction.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pokemon Let's Go is a great overall experience. I personally love the new wild Encounter system, as it makes me, as a core Pokemon player who has played every game thus far, want to battle every trainer, instead of avoiding them in some places. For everything that has been removed in this game when compared with core Pokemon, Gamefreak and Nintendo make up for it with new systems. The Catch Chaining encounter system is the easiest way by far to get those desired 4IV+ Pokemon for competitive players, and players can lock in Natures for every wild encounter instead of having about a 50% rate in previous games. Most people on here with 1's and 0's for their score really have never played the game at all, and just want to hate on it. If you don't believe me, check out some articles and reddit posts about it. Nonetheless, this game is a total breath of fresh air and I hope Nintendo realizes just how good the new wild encounter system is. Don't let the name fool you, this game plays EXTREMELY close to a core Pokemon game, with a little bit of Go mixed in. I like the direction Nintendo took with this one, and I am having more fun in this game than I have ever before in a Pokemon game. Expand

Upon its reveal pre-E3, I was skeptical of the connections between pokemon go, yet the only significance is the new wild encounters which provide a shift in dynamic from trainer battles in a refreshing new way. I would not advocate for its return, yet it provides originality to Let's Go and keeps the gameplay brisk and constantly moving forward. Wild battles have stayed relatively similar with some simplifications with the removal of held items and abilities which remove some strategy, however, it can be interesting to veterans when you ca earthquake a Gengar and one shot a Geodude without the annoying study appear. Like pokemon go, you can encounter wild pokemon in the field which is one of the best additions to Pokemon Let's Go, which I definitely would love to see return along with the following pokemon. All of this together creates the most alive and vivid world in a pokemon game ever, it is just sad the NPC's are soulless puppets and characters turn at an awkward 90 degree angles.

Overall the story stays true to the original tales of Pokemon Yellow yet add many moment to the story that enhance the story, increase the quality of life, and provides cool nods to previous regions such as Alola which will be a refreshing sight to people who were introduced to pokemon in the best pokemon game on the 3DS, Pokemon Sun and Moon. Like Pokemon Yellow, you adventure with a partner pokemon, which can Pikachu and Eevee depending n the version. These pokemon are surprisingly powerful throughout with incredible stats, movesets and lovably adorable cries when petting them and feeding them food. They both shine in the cutscenes that appear throughout the story that help to characterize the region and the connection between the trainer and the partner. The worlds the story takes place in has never looked better in a pokemon game with beautiful colours that pop from the screen in both Tv and handheld mode, and the explorations of old towns in beautiful Hd with superb orchestrated music such as the cerulean city theme and the battle themes are a joy to any pokemon enthusiast.

Pokemon Let's Go has impressed me on so many levels that has made my journey through the game one of the most enjoyable pokemon adventures for a while. I hope that gamefreak has learned that a great pokemon adventure comes from freedom, exploration and natural storytelling through the region, rather than a 2-hour introduction to catching pokemon and pages of dialogue that is irrelevant. I absolutely loved pokemon lets go and cannot wait for what the pokemon company can do now with the Nintendo switch and a brand new pokemon adventure in 2019.

It's a good game even if you have been playing Pokémon since gen 1. Also, we veterans are not the target of this games. All the negative scores comes from haters complaining about it being the Kanto from gen1 again for what I have read. I missed dungons like The Rocket Base and Seafoam Islands for 2 gens now so I was happy to have them back even if the encouters were easier than the gen 1 or 3 versions of Kanto. I expected to be frustrated with the lack of wild battles, ablities, and held items instead I found I only slightly missed wild battles more so for the better control over the catch rate vs the actual wild entcounters themselves as I think back to the old games and comsider the fact I ran from everyting I didn't want to catch. Ablities and Held Items I didn't miss at all as it was this game that made me realize how little I actualy use those outside of PvP battles and how anyoing they can be on some NPC trainer pokemon aka you can now ues a physial attack a electric pokemon without the fear of static paralyzing your pokemon! The Go mechanica dont bother me but like i said before Id rather weaken the pokemon before throwing the ball. What is I find the bigest problem is the same problem is the same problem I have with gens 6&7 trainers need more pokemon and at higher levels I didn't find this a problem if I avoided uesing the chain catchng tecnique to get rare and better IV&EV pokemon to apear but when I did I very quickly found myself overleveled to the point of KOing Brock's Onix with my Pikachu as he was level 16 and all because I wanted a Bulbasuar. Also if you play pokemon with competive multiplayer in mind this definatly isn't the game for you and should probably wait for gen 8 instead of geting this. I did get the pokeball plus with Mew but I'd definatly say while it added to the experince it isn't worth $50 if you can somehow get it for $20 or $30 it is more of a value. There are a few things here I hope cary over to gen8 and those are Pokemon Box in my Bag as that encouraged me to be more experimental and rotational with my team instead of sticking to just 6 pokemon since i no longer had to go to a pokemon center to switch out, chain catching encouraged me to hunt for better pokemon and shinies so keep that too, pokemon wandering in the wild instead of random encounters made finding what I wanted faster and caves much less of a nightmare(NO MORE ZUBAT EVERY 2 STEPS!) and saved me a fortune on Repels too! Those 3 things I want to see in gen8! Overal I wouldn't say this is my favorite pokemon game (my top 3 being Gale of Darkness, HGSS, and Gen 5 parts 1 and 2) but I would say its in my top 10 something gen 6 & 7 arent ( I am counting spinoffs like mystery dungon and stadium here) this game was poorly advertized to us in my opinon to us by Game Freak as they only showed the worst of this game to us instead of anything thay would have sold us on it I only got it because of a friend recomended I try it out and I had extra cash lieing around with nothing better to get (I had smash resevered months ago) to those of you who have your doubts about the game and maybe review bombing it curently I encourage you to at least rent the game and play it from beging to end before decideing its a 0-3/10 when at bare minimum if you don't like it I think you'll agree it's at least a 4 or 5. I gave it a 7 out of 10 as while I enjoyed my time there are some issues that need worked out if they were to do a remake like this again but I wouldn't mind seeing such as long as we get more traditional games a year or so after. I'd say I'd even be willing to pay $20 bucks for a Johto DLC expansion for this game! What I am certain of is I had fun and it isn't the dumbed down baby's first pokemon I was expecting it to be. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Was going to give this a 4/5, but to be honest, theirs no reason this game should have recieved anything less then a 3/5 if being objective. For a cash grab, this isn't fallout 76.

This game is a remake of Pokemon Yellow. My opinion is somewhat skewed as I did actually have issues with the original. I've never liked random encounters, so seeing the pokemon on the overworld is a huge step in the right direction for me (love the tales franchise who started doing this with Symphonia). Also, theirs 151 pokemon in these base games and for me the battle system gets a little old when simply wanting to add a new pokemon to your party is a random encounter grind until you find the one you want, then using the traditional battle system to balance weakening the pokemon enough to catch while trying not to kill it... and this was a nightmare for the legendary birds who you only got 1 chance at. So removing the battle system from the capturing aspects is also a plus for me. It takes away some of the grind and makes battles more fun because you don't have the chance to get really tired of it.

The graphics are solid. I haven't seen any bugs myself that some others have reported, but take those bugs away (haven't heard of any major bugs) and you have a very colorful and vibrant world to explore that is reasonably detailed. The sound effects and music are also fine, although nothing amazing.

Exp share. This was a fundamental flaw with the original pokemon games. in Yellow, if your leveling pokemon up, you MUST have them participate in every battle to get experience from that battle. When you have a party of 6, and you must fight wild pokemon to level up, this just made the grind even more ridiculous. If just a single pokemon your leveling, you would put them up front and then switch at the beginning of battle (they don't have to do damage, just come out) to level them fast. If you have multiple pokemon to level, it was simply best to do one at a time and took forever. That's gone, as now every pokemon in your party gains xp. You can also switch pokemon in and out of your party without having to return to town.

If people didn't want to see the capture aspects simplified, they shouldn't have supported GO. Objectively, it's a bit boring to catch pokemon in this way and i truly feel they could have changed this from the traditional battle system to something similar to this but with more depth to it and the majority would have been ok. They really should have spent a little more time to it. That being said, i hope they continue to improve on it in future games (or updates).

I don't agree with putting a $60 tag on ports and remakes. This and the resident evil remake on gamecube brought enough change to consider it a remake, but they aren't terribly new experiences. I feel a $40 tag would fit better. Still, while this is a cash grab (in fact, all pokemon games are a cash grab, doesn't mean they are bad), it isn't shoddily done like Fallout 76 and it isn't an attempt to sell a mobile title to a pc playerbase as if it's some huge event they should care about (the Diablo name would have sold itself on mobile, didn't have to piss those pc guys off.) I don't see any of the typical cash grab schemes with this game other then just feeding off nostalgia, and that isn't a bad thing.

Wild Pokemon battles are also gone (except for Snorlax and Legendaries I believe). You don't have to fight every single Pokemon to catch it anymore, you just complete the catching mini-game. Normal trainer battles still exist and are aplenty, don't worry! It's SURPRISINGLY fun to skip the unnecessary grind and just focus on the battles that really matter.
+ Your partner Pokemon makes the game incredibly personal and adds another layer of cuteness. You can change clothes, hairstyles and accessories on your Pikachu/Evee and match your outfits! You can also play with your partner, which will get you some rewards.
+ This game finally got rid of having to teach your Pokemon moves like fly/surf/cut etc. and having to have them in your party in case you need them. Your partner Pokemon learns all these moves in a special selection screen so no space is taken up in your attack selection and Pikachu/Evee can still use them even if they aren't in your party. You can still obtain those moves and teach them to Pokemon if you want, but they don't need to be removed by the move deleter!
+ There is no need to run to Pokemon centers to change your party anymore! You constantly carry your Pokemon box around with you and can change your party whenever you like. You can send Pokemon directly from your box to Professor Oak for candy rewards that will help improve your Pokemon.
+ Unnecessary on-screen notifications such as "would you like to name the Pokemon you just caught" have been removed and you can now name your Pokemon whenever and wherever you want, as many times as you want.
+ Movement is fluid, and you can have another Pokemon as well as your partner outside the pokeball. Some of these (the big ones) can be ridden or even flown on! Moving around on Charizard for example makes you move much faster.
+ The pokemon outside your ball will help you find items hidden in the world and your Pikachu/Evee's tale will wag if you're close to a hidden item.

    NEUTRAL:
+/- The Pokeball accessory is quite expensive but in my opinion worth it. I absolutely enjoy playing the game with it and hardly ever use another controller. It fits well in the hand and is of excellent quality. You can also use it to level your Pokemon up outside the game while walking or link it to Pokemon GO for extra rewards.

    CONS:
    - There is no breeding in the game, which is a shame.
    - No GTS system, which is a major step backwards for the series and trading with people you don't know is a pain.
    - There's one Pokemon Go exclusive Pokemon you cannot get just through playing Pokemon Let's Go, and I think that's a mistake. All Pokemon should be obtainable in the one game you bought (and the other version) without having to play Pokemon Go.

I was very skeptic before trying this game but I have to say it was worth every cent and a breath of fresh air in the series. Unlike Fallout 76, it just WORKS. And to the people giving this game 0/10 after saying in their review they really enjoyed the main campaign but were disappointed with the endgame content: that is not how scores work. Post-game content is an extra bit added to the end of the game. If you really enjoyed the game up until then, that is an unfair score to give and I don't know how you justify it. For anyone looking for fun, engaging game-game content, Pokemon Let's Go is absolutely worth a try!

This bombing reviews are getting out of hand. I understand them for games like Fallout 76 and Star Wars battle front, when just the game wasn't ready to launch, lacks content or abuse of predatory loot boxes practices. Pokemon Let's Go is different, Nintendo let know that this wasn't the main line hardcore series and that they are working on the next generation.

Here is a review by a casual Pokemon Fan (Played and finished Yellow and Crystal back in the day) .

Pokemon Let's Go is a beautiful game that captures Kanto in an splendid 3D World. For me is just nostalgic coming back to this first generation and see Pokemon with such graphics. About gameplay, I was really reluctant about the new catching mechaninc. I didn't played Pokemon Go because of that. But it saves a lot of time and maintain players focusing in the story, the battles and the journey. For that part I'm glad that grinding time has been cut. May be this was one of the reason's I didn't finish any other pokemon game. When you grow up you don't have much time to play. Battles are fun and challenging. I like how I see my co workers bringing their Nintendo Switch and asking you to trade or battle. A lot of people may have experience this with Pokemon GO (Really I don't know how the game is), but I think is still refreshing on Pokemon Let's Go.

Hardcore Pokemon fans, this game is not for you if you look for the grind. Everybody else, I think this is a good chance to go back to Kanto and experience Pokemon. BE the very best like no one ever was. Have fun.

I Love the game. Best version of Kanto ever. Red/Blue were my first games and this is a great game for original players who fell off and new players who have never played before. Maybe not if you spent 100+ hours in the every pokemon game ever, becouse this game is not as difficult as the last few. But it is way more fun!

Music is clean and revived: 6 (Not better or worse, but remastered and serves its purpose)
Catching: 7 (I don't like it overly, because I wasn't really a GO fan either, but I don't hate the mechanics or how it fundamentally works) The catching combo system to give added exp, candies, stats, RNG behavior and IVs give it an interesting flare over Red/Blue. Achieve +31 catch combos for increased IVs and shiny spawns(also RNG)! A welcome addition and added depth.

Costumes, friendship, pokemon cuteness, added mechanics: 8
Your partner pokemon and pokemon that you decide to keep out of your pokeball give the overworld more life. Can you ride a Charizard, Persian, or Arcanine in Red/Blue? No! This allows you to travel around much quicker. The special abilities going to your partner instead of having to fumble through menus to find an ability on a pokemon is a welcome addon.

Nostalgia: 8 Does it capture my childhood? Yup! Does it provide a game that adheres to most of the story, combat and general feel of old-school Pokemon? Absolutely!

I do feel they dropped the "ball" a little with the catching system mechanics and it can become a nightmare at times in higher levels, however the general appeal to complete the game is still intact and having the Pokeball Plus was a nice addition, though not necessary. It made things a lot more casual and comfortable.

All in all, not a "next-gen" Pokemon title, but that's not what it was supposed to be. As a remake and casual sitdown and playthrough to relive my childhood? Well worth $60. I've paid more on a night out than this and I got 2-3 nights of enjoyment with just the story. Not terrible, but I expect a lot from the next RPG coming to the Switch.

Sure, some decisions are hard to understand, and the game struggles to find a personality with all the changes and trying to appeal to different crowds, which is why my score's not higher. But they're still thoroughly enjoyable and I'd recommend them to anyone with a slight interest in Pokémon, both new and old fans. Just take them for what they are: a snack before the main course in 2019.

This game is incredible, for longtime veterans of the franchise, newcomers to the series, AND those who have only ever played the first and/or second generations of games.

Anyone who played the originals will appreciate the gorgeous graphics and orchestral soundtrack. Gamefreak has perfectly captured the essence of the original games, and included some of the improvements of the mainline franchise. After your second gym, you can pretty much go wherever you want, fighting gyms in any order you want, foiling team rocket's plans along the way, and eventually make your way to the elite four. It's nothing special, but despite being marketed towards a younger generation, the game holds your hand FARRR less than the previous 4 entries in Alola.

The story is just as it was in in the originals, although some points of the game are accentuated by appearances from elite four members, gym leaders in other towns, Jessie and James, and even multiple appearances by Blue, who is not your rival in these games, but is more of a wandering mentor, like Cynthia or Steven in some of the other gens. Anyone who's played HeartGold and SoulSilver will also recognize a certain Team Rocket admin by the name of Archer. There are simply too many references to the other games of the franchise to list, which makes perfect for veterans.

Those who love to hunt for shinies or the "perfect" pokemon will also not be let down in these games. IVs and EVs are both back, despite popular misconceptions. By catching the same pokemon repeatedly, you increase the stats of the next pokemon of that species. After 31 catches, the next catch is guaranteed to have perfect IVs in at least 4 stats, which is simply incredible. You could go even further, up to 100 catches of the same species, to guarantee maxed IVs, but there's always the bottlecap lady, who will max out any IV of a pokemon in exchange for a bottlecap, just like the previous games.

These games truly are a reimagining of the original Kanto games in the best possible way. There is a slight compatibility for Pokemon Go players, who can transfer their catches from Go into Let's Go, but it is completely optional, and can be ignored with no drawbacks. The capture mechanics, of course, have been changed from a battle, to throwing balls with proper timing. Personally, the motion controls of this game... are completely horrid. However, playing in handheld mode completely changes the game. You simply aim and shoot. Utterly, simple, perfection. It helps that it feels like you're playing a fully 3D game on a tablet shaped like a large GameBoy Advance. Even more nostalgia. And finally, Green is in the game. She is amazing. 10/10 game for that alone

Ignoring all the haters who kept bashing the game because of all the removed features, despite this not being a "Core" Pokemon Game, I rate this even higher than some of the Core Games.
Great soundtrack, great graphics, great new interactions with your starter, great cutscenes all around, while I was being skeptical about the new "Catching" mechanic with the removal of wild battles, it turned out to be a great experience, and Pokemons that is visible is just so much better than the traditional Random Encounter in the Core games.
Being able to bring your pokemon of choice out from the Pokeballs are a huge plus, and to be able to "ride" a lot of them too!

A worthy game to be called a True Pokemon Yellow Remake. I hope there's a lot more to come in the future for Pokemon Let's Go franchise.

I didn't like the direction the game seemed to be going because I had played ALL of the Pokemon main series games since Red/Blue and on paper, Let's Go looked like it was going to be empty. My girlfriend absolutely wanted to play it because it worked with Pokemon Go and she's a bit of Pokemon super fan. I told her many times, I am not buying that garbage.

So with a lot of hesitation, I ended up buying the game. Not just the game either. The Pokeball Plus edition because I'm a sucker for Pokemon and MegaMan collectibles... I have played about 6 hours since the 18th of November and I have to say, I am really impressed. I didn't think there were going to be as many trainer battles because I really thought the idea behind Let's Go was to be a critter-catching game. The amount of trainer battles leaves me satisfied (sometimes even annoyed that there are so many). The motion controls are actually kind of fun. They aren't complicated at all. Press the 'A' button and pretend to throw your joy-con. That's it, you threw a Pokéball.

My girlfriend has played over 17 hours already, which is kind of why I haven't played more than 6 or 7. She enjoyed Pokemon UltraSun but found that the battling was a lot to take in when all she is used to is mind-numbingly tapping on a screen from playing Pokemon Go. No matter how long I sat next to her playing UltraSun it was just confusing for her at times. With Pokemon Let's Go, I can play with her in the same game and I can kind of teach her things as well as have a new activity for us to do on a lazy weekend.

As someone who has played literally all of the main series games, am I 100% satisfied with Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu?
No it has its flaws. I do miss being able to put wild Pokemon to sleep, to make them easier to catch. This whole berry system just doesn't feel right but if you are familiar with the Pokemon Go system, then don't worry about it.

Would I want to see the next main series games have the same wild 'battle' system, catching system and berry systems in it?
Hell no. The catching system can be an option because I know there are players that enjoy it way more than just mashing the 'A' button. Sometimes it's cool, sometimes it's annoying. I'm 50/50 with it. Wild Pokemon battles NEED to come back and the Berry system should go back to how it is in the main game where they are used to heal, and strengthen (among other functionalities) your Pokemon.

Is the PokeBall Plus worth it? Fun to play with? Useful?
No it isn't worth it, I'm just a sucker for Pokemon gizmos and gadgets however it is actually pretty fun to play Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu with it. I have relatively big hands so a Joy-con is pretty uncomfortable to hold whereas the PokeBall Plus being, well a ball, is easy to hold. It's kind of cool that it works with Pokemon Go too. I can put a pokemon from Let's Go Pikachu "in" the PokeBall plus, and when I go play Pokemon Go with my girlfriend, whatever Pokemon I put in will earn experience points based on what I do in Pokemon Go, from catching Pokemon, spinning Pokestops, walking etc.
So it kind of made me enjoy Pokemon Go a little more which is cool for my girlfriend and Let's Go got my girlfriend into the RPGs a little more which is cool for me.

I really enjoy Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and I'm glad I bought it. I look forward to completing it. If you're reluctant to buy it, then rent it, borrow it, or play at a friend's house. It's really worth playing.

When Let's Go was announced, my initial thought was "meh, looks ok I guess". After having it and playing though, its literally probably the most fun I've had in a Pokemon game IN QUITE A WHILE. Yes it's true that there are features missing that the original main series games have, but let me say this: This. Is. Not. A. Main. Series. Game. At all.
This is the in-between spinoff filler game that we get while we wait for gen 8. This is an entry-level game designed specifically for parents/kids/genwunners that started or got back into the franchise with Go.

It literally isn't designed for longtime fans, but it has the nostalgia kick that will still bring them in. Not only that, but the features it lacks from the original, it more than makes up for with all the new features it adds.
And there are a lot, with most being what people have been requesting for a while! (following pokemon, overworld flying, buddy pokemon, overworld encounters, it goes on).
Not to mention, the features it lacks from the original make sense for what it is (a which is, a Go combo game). Personally, I love when Pokemon steps away from its usual, redundant formula. This game is like a vacation to me.
The fact that I can skirt around an encounter is fantastic, and this is the best game I've played for shiny hunting so far hands down. I love having Pokemon following me again and hell I even like the Pokeball controller. To me, its reminiscent of the HG/SS days.
Its an easy game, because again, its entry level and wasn't meant for you. Its obviously designed to be super casual, NON-COMPETITIVE, and with young kids in mind. I would still even love to see some of the features return for a main series. It just blows my mind how veterans are having such bad reactions, because honestly, what did you expect?

Is it a cash grab? Absolutely! Thats Pokemon's entire marketing scheme. Does it work? Absolutely! The sales on the games are doing extremely well. Why is that necessarily a bad thing?

The point: Don't write off the Let's Go games just because people are being negative nancys. Its fun. Let people enjoy things.

The difficulty of the game has switched from battling and random encounters to physically catching the pokemon. The game gives ample supply of pokeballs to toss, however there is a skill gradient that comes from learning the way each pokemon moves and how to predict it's movements.

Do not allow the review bombing to dissuade you from purchasing this game and testing it out for yourself. While there are flaws that exist in the game, I would say that the game comes out to a net positive with all of the neat ways they reinvented the Kanto region!

Good luck, and happy catching, trainer!

A lot of the complexity behind the game is stripped away from the series and now you cannot even battle wild pokemons... all you can do is throw balls at them. and your pokemon gains exp from catching wild pokemon... Let's not debate if that makes any sense, the main issue is it is extremely boring. in contrast, back when you can battle wild pokemon, you can at least test the effectiveness of the your pokemons' skills and have a variety of sorts so it's more interactive than throw a pokeball, catch the pokemon, throw a ball, catch a pokemon, give all the excessive pokemon to professor, throw candy, throw a ball, catch a pokemon, fight a trainer....... this game is god awful and you should avoid it at all costs.

I've been playing the Pokemon series since Pokemon Blue on the the original Brick Gameboy, and have loved the series ever since.

the real question here is, is that is this a good enough filler game, to keep fans happy until then? well...here's the thing.

Pokemon Let's Go was made for those who play Pokemon Go, on mobile devices ( I play the game casually on my phone every now and then) to essentially ease in/incentivize those casual players of the series to get onto the Main Series Pokemon titles (specifically the upcoming 2019 Switch title)

The game is easy (but of course it's going to be for those of us who are veterans in the series), but i still can't help but personally get some enjoyment out of Let's Go Eevee.

I love the updated graphics, i enjoy the cute cut-scenes that involve eevee, and i enjoy the fact that i can take my low CP Pokemon from Go, that are almost impossible to raise the CP levels of, and put them into the Pokeball Plus or in the game itself and raise their CP/get candies.

Now that isn't to say that the game doesn't have it's flaws, because believe me, it does. There is a limited amount of cash you can obtain (as far as i know you can't re-challenge defeated trainers to get extra cash/experience points. Which in turn means there is also a limited amount of experience you can earn through the game.

Unless there is a trick i don't know of as of this review, you will eventually run of of Pokeballs and Funds.

Now is that to say that once you beat the Elite Four and the Master Trainers that the game will be permanently over?

Doubtful, as i think Nintendo will take full advantage of its success with DLC as of late and will most likely add in Events or even other Regions, like perhaps Johto?

All in all, i think this game is an alright/enjoyable filler game for the Pokemon series until the 2019 title comes out. Until then, remember to Catch em' all.

Pokémon Lets go manages to constantly make one step forward in the right direction and three steps backwards in the wrong one. It’s infuriating to see something so long awaited and with so much potential, falling short on crucial gameplay standards set by previous, older entries in the series: you can now freely move your Pokémon from your team to your PC without having to visit a Pokémon Center, but you can’t look for a specific Pokémon to trade online (GTS has been completely removed). You can see Pokémon in the wild without having to engage in multiple random battles hoping to see the one you’re looking for, yet you cannot battle them -nor make eggs to breed your own (the egg breeding system has been removed). The experience sharing is surprisingly perfectly balanced, yet 90% of the battles with trainers end up being a “press A to win” fest, removing any kind of strategical thinking whatsoever present in previous titles, which is made worse by the fact that 95% of the trainers never have more than three Pokémon to use in battles and they are almost always repeated in set of three of the same species, making it even easier to win by spamming the same move without even having to think. On top of that, the day/night cycle is gone, along with weather changes and abilities. Pokémon can no longer even hold items and berries.

The game has the best graphics ever seen by the series as a whole, and that’s pretty much the only thing it has going for it. It’s really pretty to look at, but reveals itself to be an extremely linear (much more so than previous games) experience from beginning to end, lacking a lot of the complex game mechanics we’ve come to know and learn throughout the years. On top of that, the game presents some truly idiotic game design choices which I find absolutely baffling in a 2018 title. Gone are all the quality of life changes we’ve come to love from Sun and Moon. Every single action requires you to navigate a menu and manually select whatever action you want to take: for example, if you choose to ride your Charizard, you’ll have to open the menu, select team, then make charizard follow you. This makes you go pretty fast, but also makes you unable to interact with anything on the ground or surmount certain obstacles. It would be great if you could just press a button to dismount charizard in a matter of 1 or two seconds, yet, you are required to open the menu again, select team and select another Pokémon to follow you, which makes Charizard go back into his pokeball and consequently enabling you to interact once again with the environment. A simple action that should take 2 seconds at best takes now 10 seconds because of idiotic and archaic game design, which again, after seeing all the improvements made from previous games, simply baffles me.

Let’s go can be seen as perfect remake of Yellow, throwing 20 years of improvements in the trash and going back to lacking every single thing that Yellow also lacked. Don’t forget that Pokémon Yellow came out in the 90s, though, while Let’s Go came out in 2018. There simply exist no justification for all the things missing in this game. Will it hit your nostalgia hard? Sure, it will. Some of the moments you’ll be presented with will have a chance to make you tear up, depending on how much you loved and grew up with the original game. Once those moments are gone though, you’ll realize how shallow and hollow this game really is, making the original from the 90s seem at times more feature packed and thought out than this one.

Let’s Go comes with a lot of shortcomings. Whether you’ll be able to get past them is up to you and your love of the series. OG fans like me will surely give it a try, but not doubt, they’ll end up being disappointed. Sad to say, but this is not a Pokémon game to be taken seriously, and it angers me that Kanto was chosen to be the protagonist of this half assed, lazy “remake”. I can only hope they will learn the lesson for the eventual Let’s Go Gold and Silver.

And yes, its a kids game, but Nintendo themselves advertised it as a game "to keep veterans on their toes". Which is ridiculous.
Region got recycled for the 7th time, character animations got recycled from the 3DS models, which feels lazy. The battle animations are also extremely unimpressive considering the switch has very high potential in that regard. The frequent frame drops the game has are inexcusable for a 2018 game. As for the new additions:
Catching mons with motion controls feels klunky and bugs out often. Proper targetted catching can be bought for an additional 50$ and the Pokeball Plus is an absolute nightmare for controlling your character outside of the catching process.
Arbitrary requirements to enter gyms are now present, with one of them forcing your to enter a gym overleveled. Thanks for spoonfeeding me, Nintendo.
It is a pretty game. But thats about it. Not worth the 60$, and very disappointing for Pokemons grand entrance on the switch.

Over 20 years, Pokémon has been one of the series that make fans to enjoy new adventures. There are a lot of things that make Pokémon the huge success that it is. However, it seems that in Pokémon Let's Go everything was lost.

Over 20 years, Pokémon has been one of the series that make fans to enjoy new adventures. There are a lot of things that make Pokémon the huge success that it is. However, it seems that in Pokémon Let's Go everything was lost.

1°: The addition of grass in the overworld is pointless. Pokémons can come and by and you don't even need to walk on the grass to trigger an encounter.

2°: There is no Pokémon reward anymore. In order to get some Pokémons, you either have them in your team and train them until they could evolve by level up or by stone effect or you could spend some time searching around until you could find a very rare final evolution of such Pokémon. Now it is pointless as when you walk into the Mt. Moon and you just need to wait until a Clefable spawn or having a Butterfree spawning by your side at Veridian Forest.

3°: I get the 150 ones... But how could they exclude the whole bunch of evolutions and pre evolutions of Kantonian Pokémons found in generations ahead? It is another pointless thing for me. The game simply ignored all the evolutions of pokémons. Instead, they added Alolan forms and Mega forms. Kanto should have their updated pokedex with their 184 Pokémons.

4°: Pokémon appearing in the wild is very cool, but it causes a lag in the game. There are moments when the frame rate drops and this is due the appearing of the pokémons.

5°: The controls were terribly planned. The could let people play in the TV by the use of both joycons or pro controller. However, they force you to choose either traditional way [handheld] or with movement controls. In addition, it is disturbing because in every game, the movement control is in the left hand and the options is in the right hand. Now they force you to choose either playing with right hand or left hand. They could leave the option of playing with both joycons as if it were on handheld mode.

6°: The pokeball plus. It is bad having access to one of the pokémons by just buying a peripheral. Bu the problem is because this peripheral can't be used in any other game.

7°: The game is repetitive and does not have the replay fact. By the middle of the game, you get tired of so much battles and the lack of a catching story. You play just for playing... This could have been improved in this remake. Yet, everything was made equally in the yellow version.

8°: The game is simply easier and difficultly pokémon would have achieved its huge success if it was like this. The game turned back to everything that make it great. The playing mode in the game should have come in a "easy mode" where players could choose to play in a easy one or in a traditional one.

9°: Battles with friends is fun, but again pointless as the surprise factor and training factor don't interfere anymore. Battles were a complicated fact in pokémon core series as it demands a lot of time and lots of combinations to make everything perfect for a battle.

10°: Why removing the buying factor? What is the point of having pokéballs all the time? You can find a pack of 5 in the overworld, you can earn as reward and you can buy them for just 100$. It is like having infinite pokeballs.

I could go on and on... But I won't... The game change bad aspects of previous ones... But what we want is not make change everything and erased all the concepts, instead we want things to build up. In this past 20 years, we have seen how pokémon storage have been changed, for instance... This updates does not change the game, but make improvements which are well accepted... What Pokémon Let's Go did was basically ignore all the things the series have been loyal for over 20 years.

It seems many people who are giving this game such a low review are in need of a reality check. This is a game that is used to reintroduce Pokemon to a younger generation, the game is not a hardcore re-imagining for people who grew up with Pokemon like myself. This is a game for children not for 30 year old men who feel the need to complain because its not the Pokemon you grew up with. If you are part of the older crowd and you just want to relive some childhood memories more power to you, just don't take the game too serious.

With all that said and done the game is visually very pretty and it is fun to run around the Kanto region again. The catching mechanic of using Pokemon GO isn't my favorite but it does bring something fresh to the console. Although time to time when you throw a pokeball it will not register as well and may go way out of area originally desired to go, but that only occured for me maybe once or twice.

The Battle is just about the same as any of Pokemon game just minus not being able to battle wild pokemon. Which i will admit i was a little disappointing from time to time that i couldn't battle them but that alone did not ruin my experience.

Overall my experience with this game was a good time. It was a nice change of pace to play something more relaxing and just take my time with.

Black/White 1 and 2 which had the battle subway, musical hall, engaging stories, secret legendaries, and a tournament to fight dozens of series icons, along with triple and rotation battles. All of these games were $40 with tons of features. The you look at Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee. There is no depth to this game, it is repetitive, and while there are dozens of hours of gameplay it never truly changes up or gets more challenging. The game holds your hand the entire way through, it is extremely easy and honestly, there is very little reason to play it. The only reason to get this game is out of a lack of contest, there is no other traditional Pokemon game on the Switch. The game is going to sell well regardless due to the fact it is a Pokemon game and the Switch has such a high install base. Kids will enjoy this I'm sure, but if you want a Pokemon game with more depth, challenge, and replay-ability, tell Gamefreak by voting with your wallet by not buying this game. On the other hand, if you just enjoy the world of Pokemon and don't care about the mechanics of it and want a fun casual game you can relax and enjoy on your tv or on the go, then I would recommend this. All in all this game is not a disappointment, they advertised EXACTLY what it was from the get go. A casual game meant for casual gamers, newcomers to Pokemon, and young children or adults who grew up with Pokemon to play with their own kids. I can't fault this game for not being something it was never advertised as, a game with depth, compelling story, characters, and gameplay. HOWEVER, I can fault it for calling itself a main line Pokemon title priced above all those before it with not even a third of the content that those games had, yet is priced at 1/3 times the price. This game is a rip-off price-wise, I would not recommend paying this amount of money no matter the type of 'gamer'/fan you are. Wait for it to possibly go down in price, because in the end, you really aren't missing much. Expand

I've never felt over leveled and if I'm underleveled I know I can go into wild grass catch a few pokemon and catch up in levels. It's not tedious and I don't feel like I get over leveled. Just don't leave a negative review when you haven't even played the game. I've been a hardcore fan of the series and I finished all core games. I am very happy that this is AMAZING.

At first, the game hits the nostalgia very hard that it is almost impossible for me to dislike the game as a long time fan. Everything remains faithful to the original game. The new graphics are very cute and adorable. I love the movement of my favorite Pokemon, Pikachu. And as I kept plaything this game again, I felt like a child again.

If you are coming to this game with an open mind, I am sure you will love it. But if you are going to complain about the small stuff, then forget it and wait for the upcoming core game.

As a long time pokemon fan I was hoping what gamefreak what do next to improve the pokemon generations from handheld to home consoles and one of the recent pokemon spinoff releases was pokemon let's go a direct sequel of pokemon go and it is disappointing and heres why.

To start of it is an obvious gen 1 remake which we already got second putting in that format will have many people having questions about this game and it is important that you give them that response however what we got is a boring spinoff that has no challenge and removes wild battles, abilities, breeding, and much more which core pokemon games had. And since this is targeted towards kids it will make it sell better right? wrong nintendo did that with the wii u and guess what it had very weak sales and the console was weak compared to the xbox one and ps4 and seeing how super smash bros ultimate shows all the details sakurai has worked through and with promising gameplay buy that instead. besides this game has the most laughable graphics I've ever seen while the pokemon is on point same can't be said with the main characters and npcs but people wil defend this game by saying well what's wrong of it's chibi? freakin sun and moon and it's sequel showed actual models of the humans and that is a huge step forward for the 3ds while it held your hand it still had the core features it's post game content was somewhat alright and there was some challenges. here this game holds your hand a lot it tells you which pokemon to catch and what level your pokemon need to be in order to pass the gym what the heck whatever happened to freedom of catching them leveling them after battles it just makes the game even more easier than it already is. Plus this game doesn't have post game content even oras had the delta episodes and that was amazing this game has master trainers which is honestly a joke. plus why cant i play this game with two joy cons besides handheld mode come on and the pokeball plus is not worth it at all .

In conclusion, despite being a spinoff this game has the least effort put in to the game, it has less of the main pokemon appeal, it is very easy, and getting mew frim the useless peripheral is just not right since mew is supposed to be rare not something that can be obtained immediately. plus this game needs more pokemon, firered and leadgreen can allow you to catch gen 2-3 pokemon and even gen 2 allows you to go back to gen 1 which was amazing. I dont recommend anyone to buy this save your money

This entirely new engine, graphical updates, massive amount of love that was put into this game...oh yeah, definitely screams "lazy cash grab." You know what was a lazy cash grab? Pretty much every "third version" of the past games. Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon. This isn't.

This isn't a main series game, it's a spinoff, and y'all are acting like it murdered your childhood out back with a shovel. Get over yourselves. It's a charming, fun, and completely valid game.

You start the game, same as the others, but you don't play the game quite the same. Half the fun has been removed. Where you used to be a trainer battling Pokemon, getting stronger, catching the ones you like and having engaging battles with other trainers, well, all of that is gone now. All you do is catch Pokemon. You get bonus multipliers for experience when you catch the same Pokemon multiple times in a row. You keep the ones you want and give the rest to professor Oak. He gives you candy as a reward. At first I thought this was kind of funny 'haha I'm turning Pokemon into chicken nuggets' then the sad, glooming shadow of realization finally struck me, this is the entire game. Catching Pokemon, which levels up your party, and turning the rest into candy. The battles with trainers are shallow and lack energy. Almost every trainer you meet only has one Pokemon and most gym leaders only have at least two. This makes all the battles short and unengaging which takes away the best part about being a 'pokemon trainer'. I cannot in my right mind leave a good review for this game. Your kids will enjoy it as a fun little past time activity, but if your like me and you grew up with the games and the cards, and you were looking for the next great game, this isn't it so save your money. The franchise doesn't care about the fans that stuck with them through the years. Which is something we will have to deal with.

I'd also like to leave a short review about the pokeball pro controller. As I get older and after working with my hands they have gotten stiff. The pokeball controller is way too small. I can not comfortably play the game with it for more than an hour. Again it's great for kids but trying to grip this little controller for more than an hour is pretty difficult for an adult.

This game is simple and relaxing to play. The lack of wild battles worried me, but I quickly fell in love with it and hope they keep it that way. The game is not however worth $60, that is where this game falls short. I can hope for free new region dlc, but has gamefreak really learned that lesson yet? Unlikely.

The game was too short, with absolutely (to my knowledge) no real post game content (Master Battles don't count)
Grinding to level up past 70 is a boring chore that could have been made easier with better post game content. Catch rate is annoying, and you tear through pokeballs way to fast. And the fact the pokemon run away so much made me want to chunk the game out a window a couple times.

But Pokemon Black was the last game to not bore me, and it very well could be my nostalgia seeing my first ever game yellow brought to life, but I usually don't enjoy remakes, much less actually beat them.

This game should be $40, or GameFreak better have some free dlc around the corner as I have 10 pokemon left to get in the pokedex (trading required) so it took me 39 hours to pretty much beat the entire game. Otherwise GameFreak and Nintendo should be ashamed of pricing this game like they did.

Pokemon has gotten so complicated over the years, and the stories have continued to get worst, revisiting simpler times was nice, and I hope they maintain some, but not all of the new things in the 2019 core game.

Now, your Pokemon gain experience by catching Pokemon and you can later send the Pokemon you don't want to Professor Oak (which feels nicer than leaving hundereds of Pokemon in your box to rot). Doing this rewards candies you can use to increase the stats of your Pokemon. This method feels more tangible and rewarding that the EV grind.

The graphics are charming and for the first time I actually feel immersed in the Pokemon world. My interactions with Pikachu feel real and I actually feel a bond to my Pokemon, something which Let's go does better than all the previous iterations of the game.

The lightheartedness of it all, the relationship building with Pikachu, the cutscenes are beautiful, and the nostalgic feel of it all. Everyone saying that this game is shallow and is mediocre, I feel they are too blinded by their hatred for the Pokemon GO mechanic to the game. The fact that I can have another Pokemon in my team follow me while I have Pikachu riding on my shoulder is awesome. I always love it when I can interact with the Pokemon in my team and I feel like it should be in every title Pokemon game. The battling system is still great and the animations of the moves are great. Being able to interact with Pikachu by petting him, having high five games with him, and him giving you presents; makes you feel like you are developing a bond with him. That being said, the only thing I have a huge and negative criticism for is the Pokemon GO mechanics. I hate that I can't battle the wild Pokemon in the game. Whenever I catch a Pokemon, I don't feel like I earn it because it all feels like random luck to get it. The throwing mechanic is a nice idea and makes you feel more immersed, but it could be better. Sometimes I feel like I throw it nicely, only to have the Pokeball fall to the ground right in front of me or have it go sailing over the Pokemon. The worst is when there's Pokemon that jump from side to side and just stay all the way to the side, I have not figured out how to throw the ball in an arch to the left or right; and when I finally do throw it to the left or right, I don't even know how I did it. Also, the only thing that I know of right now because I only just beat Surge is that Razz Berries make it easier to capture the Pokemon. If berries are a big mechanic in the capturing and you can't weaken the Pokemon; why are they not for sale in the shops at the beginning on the game? When you get to the Rock Tunnel, even Great Balls do little in the capture of the Pokemon. I ran out of Razz Berries and I spend like five minutes trying to capture just one Pokemon sometimes. The Pokemon GO aspect wouldn't have been so bad if they didn't make it feel like it was complete random ass luck to capture the Pokemon. They should have kept that we can battle wild Pokemon in between trainer battles to increase our teams strength, rather than relying on catching Pokemon to gain experience. Imagine battling the Pokemon and weakening it to make the ring on the capture screen turn into a different color to make it easier on you to catch the Pokemon. But, the catching part of the game just feels like a long stint in the Safari Zone. I don't feel like I earn the Pokemon I capture. Will I play this game again? Yeah, I'll have another play through. The game isn't all bad, just the Pokemon GO aspect could have been done a whole lot better. Expand

As a HUGE Pokemon fan, I have blind faith in the franchise and literally went out and bought a switch specifically at the prospect of a new Pokemon game, but unfortunately I have never been more disappointed. While the game is beautiful, Nintendo really took a HUGE step back here in gameplay... taking away abilities and held items is probably the biggest mistake they could have made and completely removes any form of depth from the game. Outside of typing, Let's Go has no meta game WHATSOEVER, which resulted in the most dumbed down, bland experienceI have had in a game in years...

I get that the idea here is to onboard new comers from Pokemon go so that the company can make as much money as possible, but this game does a terrible job at it because it actually a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT game from what the legit core series is about.

Someone said Mewtwo should beat your as and not be a ball chugging match, ummm you have to fight him before you can even catch him....asshat. I strongly advise all who read these go by the actual critic reviews and ignore the user reveiws on this one, people are just so bitter, which is surprising considering it was announced when they announced this game that the 2019 Pokemon would be for the core fans and this was to introduce newer players who never got to experience the Pokemon game that started it all.

Firstly let's say this is a main series (as pokemon has been saying) and not core (i.e. RBYG to USUM and the games in between) games. If this spawns a series of let's go games, creating it's own separate thing than whatever. However the craze of pokemon go has largely died down since 2016, although the game still as just over 2million active users, it seems odd that pokemon company has even bothered to draw these players closer to the core series via this weird hybrid of the two. Not stating this without reason, the core series consistently sell over 10million, with exception to installments like emerald, crystal, platinum (that sell over 5million). Total core series sales is just under 230 million units. The begining of the last generation; Pokemon sun and moon sold over 16million. Making an attempt to add 2million Go players at least seems to be pointless, as if they had any interest in the core series they would have already picked one up or stayed with it. So kinda seems like a waste of time to make these games, objectively. But let's go over the games

What are the positive aspects of this game:
    1. It looks nice; the art direction is HD for the most part so nothing to complain about to much*(N.B on the much part)

    2. It is super easy; if you have a child who is a recent fan of pokemon go, then this is a good start i guess, and a start in which many players began 20+yrs ago.

    3. Pokemon walk around with you; this was a feature in Heart Gold and Soul SIlver back on the DS system (however that included around 450ish pokemon, just a bit less than that), it's nice to see your partners mostly to scale behind you

    4. If your a new commer the game only includes the first 151ish pokemon, so completing the pokedex isn't as intimidating as a task as it is in the newer games with over 800 pokemon. For old first generation fans returning to the franchise it is also nice for the same reason.

    Negative aspects of these games:
    1. this game costs $60 USA ($80 AUS, if like me you live in Australia); ok so normal price yeah, the games on the handeld lines where about $50is only a $10 increase. yup a $10 increase for a game that has 80% less content. oh boi.

    2. Mew is behind a pay wall; i hate microtransaction, lootboxes, you name it. DLC i don't mind as long as it is worth the price, i.e. witcher 3 DLCs absolutely worth the price, Breath of the wild, yup sure worth the low price, you get it good quality extra content for a fair price, most of the DLC i enjoy are ones in which i feel like i don't need them to have a full experience. SO what does this have to do with Mew, well mew is 1 of the original pokemon and has a lot of lore and fan love, so what do they do, the slap that **** behind a $50USA ($70 AUS) controller that is not needed to play the game and is only used for a gimmick. They also want it to be the only way to get mew, as you can't transfer your mew from Pokemon go to these games.

    3. 80% less content compared to core: like i said before this is not worth the money. This game only includes 151 of 8010ish pokemon in the franchise, removes held items, abilities, EV's, anything competative. Removes wild battles for GO's simple capture. This doesn't work, the motion control are inconsistent and you have to use them, it **** wth leveling. People for this complain about core series, "RNG" system of battling and weakening pokemon (which by the way is not slow, annoying or grindy, cause it has many methods to increase your odds of catching pokemon and if your tired of running into pokemon just use a god dam repel, you have access to them form the start of the game), however this supposed better system is so so much worse; wild pokemon can just spawn at your feet (one top of another pokemon, why is this a thing) they glog the overworld (just try using any rideable pokemon you hop of them at any ledge or inconvienience), catching pokemon gives you more exp that trainer battles (which is dumb) meaning to level up your box will be inevietably filled with hundreds of pidgey's.

4.This game is so easy. Every trainer or rival, gym leader or bad guy never has more 4 pokemon or even 2, they force you to enter gyms with a requirement that makes it easier, your partner literally has a broken movepool and can solorun, stats and moves are broken, and you can use the other joycon to go 2player and effectively tag team 2v1 anyone, all the critic reviews or people saying this is hard, are **** at pokemon and videogames.

    5. This game has sudden frame drops (how? like how?), the shadows are still pixelated (why? this is a switch that can run Doom with decent fedelity and frames), the art style is booring, so are the characters, they introduce meltan just cause (mythical for the sake of being mythical) to enitce people to buy it for complete pokedex's. The music is eh, heard better fan remix's.

This game is only worth $20. Wait till this goes on sale

Yes, they know what Nintendo said about the game not being exactly like the others and, yes, they know about the mechanics that Nintendo said would not be in the game. With that said, that does not invalidate their entire review because, like everyone else, they had their own experience with the game and just want to share their thoughts. So, don't be so quick to down-vote. This is what reviews are for, to show an overall reception of a piece of media. So take in all of these reviews and form your own opinion about the game.

    ANYWAY,
I beat Pokemon Emerald in 3 days when I was 5 years old. That being said, Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu (and Eevee. They're the same game. Don't be a sucker and buy both) are dumbed down to the bear minimum.
    - Always on exp share (not a big issue though)
    - Pokemon GO wild battles
    - constant hand holding
    - friendly rival (because children are sensitive and words hurt I guess)
    - No abilities
    - No held items
    - Only first 151 Pokemon (plus Meltan and Melmetal)
    - No working game corner (because I guess that counts as gambling and we must shield the children)
It's almost as if Game Freak assumes that kids these days are getting dumber every year. The games were already easy and, now, they're just lifeless.

I don't have a problem with going back to Kanto because I really like Kanto. The issue lies in that there are no new places to go. In fact, places like the Sevii Islands have been taken out. Personally, I would have really like to visit Johto afterwards but I guess that was too much to ask for.

I also don't have a problem with wild pokemon appearing outside of battle rather than being randomly selected when running through tall grass. The issue with this, though, is that there are so many of them and, a lot of times, you will have your path blocked by randomly wandering wild pokemon whom you can't touch because then you'll be forced to play carnival ring toss with them.

The story is fairly the same as pokemon yellow with little to no change. You start out as a trainer in pallet town and end after beating the pokemon league. Simple. There is also no post game unless you think that "Master Trainers" actually qualifies for being post-game content. I don't see why Nintendo made a big fuss over master trainers. They're just 1v1 battles of the same pokemon and you get a title of that specific pokemon when you beat them but, those titles don't make sense in any context if you use more than one species of pokemon.

You can also try to complete the pokedex but that only works if you get mew who is locked behind a paywall. That's right! You have to buy the pokeball plus to acquire mew which is another $50 ($40 dollars if you buy the bundle pack) because, I guess, EA must've taken Nintendo aside and told them that consumers love getting screwed over at every turn.

Also, half the animations were quite literally ripped from SM/USUM so expect a lot of things to look familiar. ALSO, the graphics look sub-par. The switch is definitely capable of more than just SM/USUM graphics without the black outlines. So, that was unimpressive.

Character customization is pretty shallow despite being much better in previous titles on an inferior console. Once you pick your character appearance, you are not able to change anything about it from then on (hair style, color, eye color, etc.) You can still customize your outfit but, that has been dumbed down to just a few sets (some of which are version exclusive) and any attempt to mix and match between the sets never looks right.

The thing that I think this game does right is the music. The music is always top notch, largely because everything else is still conveyed through text. Taking the soundtrack up to orchestral level is always nice though.

Overall, this game is just... okay. It plays fine. It looks fine. However, once you beat it, there is no reason to ever come back. The online sucks and, now you need to buy a Nintendo Switch Online Subscription to even do something simple like that.

(TL;DR) Not worth $60. Designed to appeal to the very small brain stunted children. This game is Baddy Bad.

Back to basics Pokemon game, adds lots of fun features and mechanics that I'm sure will make it into the next game. Enjoyable to go back to Kanto, can't wait for the new game next year! Also, for those saying it is way too easy, maybe try getting past the first 2-3 gyms? Difficulty ramps up near the mid-end game, pretty enjoyable as long as you don't double battle the entire game.

As a 'old school' fan of the Pokemon franchise (started watching the anime and playing red/blue on gameboy colour in 2000 and have played every game since including GO), I'm a little frustrated by the number of negative reviews from supposed hardcore fans.

Yes there are aspects of Let's Go that are bad, like all games, however I feel as though these are greatly outweighed by positive features. Here's my thoughts.

Positives: Change to the 'wild encounters' so that pokemon are visable is the best change to have been implemented in years. Makes exploring new routes fun and engaging when new pokemon pop out of nowhere and prevents the need for repels when trying to get through areas as you can just avoid wild pokemon .Franchise tagline is also 'gotta catch em all' not gotta battle em all.

Graphic's are phenomenal, especially for pokemon, far better than any of the recent 3ds games. This add's to the overall nostalgia/enjoyment of replaying Kanto with high quality visuals.

Catch mechanic is no where near as bad as people are saying, in agree it can become repetitive over time but so can spam battling the same pokemon to get exp as well. The joycon's can be a little clunky in terms of aiming but overall It's pretty fun in the beginning and pokeball plus is a nice gimmick. Plus its definitely not easier than wild battles, catching legendaries/rare pokemon is very challenging even with repeated excellent throws.

The switch as a console is amazing, and suits let's go so well (granted i haven't played any other games on switch yet). Both handheld and console mode are great and joycon's are a cool twist on conventional console controllers.

Negatives: The multiplayer/co-op feature is a flop. Has the second player as 'support character' so they can't actually catch their own pokemon/have their own account. This also makes battles wayy to easy, basically making it a 2-vs-1 in every situation. And the co-op catching mechanic isn't particularly good.

I do agree with most people in saying that the game is made to be fairly easy, that said if you're not trying to rush through as fast as possible and enjoy exploring all the routes, wild catch streaks, building a high IV team, exploring all buildings and characters etc and trying to complete the pokedex, there's easily 40+ hours of playtime. Not the 1 hitting of every trainer as some purport.

^ This could be improved if they removed the exp share component wherein all pokemon in your party receive exp for catches and battles. Though this is not a let's go feature as it's been present in the last few main series games.

Overall I've found let's go to be an enjoyable and fun reinvention of the Kanto region with enough for hardcore players as well as providing a great into to main series pokemon for POGO exclusive players. You have to remember that this was never marketed or intended to be a traditional pokemon rpg, but there are some features from Let's Go that i would love to have included in future mainseries games on switch.

A simple, nostalgic return to the Kanto region, offers little if you are a series veteran eager for complexity and challenge. But if that's not your main interest, Pokemon Let's Go has it all! It's a simple, cute and fun game that will keep you hooked for hours. An excellent starting point for newcomers, and a great nostalgia trip for those in a search for one.

It’s hard to make sense of the game that’s basically a Switch port of iOS/Android remake of Pokemon Red/Green. Is it a step forward, step backward – or maybe just a shameless cash-in? Turns out, it’s a great remake – the world looks exactly as we imagined it back when we were staring at black and white pixels of original Red/Green. [Issue#235, p.44]
