Well, this game is pure garbage. Why? Because you can't battle wild pokemon as always, you're forced to do the **** PoGo mechanic. Also, there aren't abilities. It's the same **** game from 1996 but much worse. I hope the 2019 game to be better because this is a shame to de Pokemon franchise

Pokemon Lets go (which ill call PLG) is merely another entry in the series. While it is missing quite a few mechanics from the previous entries that does not make it any less enjoyable. This game is arguably marketed for a younger audience who have either heard of Pokemon at one point or those (the curious) who have never heard of it before. Its bright lights and fantastic visuals draw the user into the world of Pokemon. One of my favorite parts about this game is the introduction of the Pokeball plus controller and that you can play the entire game with just a simple ball and a thumb-stick. The games story has not changed from its original release and is just as charming as I remember it to be.

Overall the world of Pokemon has changed over the years and I personally believe that this entry is an excellent step in the right direction for the next generation of Pokemon games.

whats wrong with you people and pokemon fanboy?!! this game is clearly a remake from Pokemon Yellow/Red/Blue, of course it doesnt have Held item, ability, even breeding cause it started in Gold/Silver and later. you expect too much, use your logic. and it's for generation 1 only as introduction to new fan. even the catching method is the most sane logic if you thinking logically. Pokemon cant use moves until it trained or have their trainer. of course the wild pokemon can't be battle in wild battle because they are still "WILD" and they're not Legendary Pokemon or Smart enough , so they need direction to use moves from trainer, it's really reasonable. once again use your logic, people who gave bad rating. they just added the most reasonable thing like it used to be in Pokemon Yellow/Blue/Red with some enhancement like pokemon can be seen. even if it's seen it's still appear randomly and can caught you off guard. once again this is REMAKE so dont expect too much. I went into this game knowing what it was; it's a bridging game to get the people who played Pokemon Go, but not an actual game. But as a fan who's been with Pokemon since Gen 3, how does it stack for someone like me? Well... I'll be honest, it doesn't. Let's get into the nitty gritty here.

Pokemon Let's Go is, what I'm sure to be, a remake of Pokemon Yellow, with the additional version for Eevee fans. Right off the bat, it's the best Kanto has ever looked, with the nice visuals being present from the start till the end. I do feel it's a good looking game. And I'll be real, I didn't feel like I was getting bored through the story itself. Sure it's nothing new, but the few little changes placed here and there, be it big story changes or just little details that reference bits of the originals or even future games, are nice through and through. For example, Vermilion City has a gentleman in his house with a Farfetch'd stating he wants to go catch a Spearow, a clear reference to the little girl who would trade her Farfetch'd for a Spearow in the original games. I like the attention to detail, even if they don't impact much. While the idea of Pokemon GO catching mechanics worked okay in the game, I definitely do not want to see it become the new normal and I certainly don't want to see it come back for a future title.

I know that paragraph is pretty short for the pros of the game, but I can't help but say these games are FAR from the best the series has to offer. While the director of the games calls them core games, I can't see them as anything but spin-off titles. It doesn't matter who this game was targeted to, the amount of staple ideas removed does not cut it for a core game in my eyes. The game is missing around half of the established moves from past games, the inability to have hold items, removal of abilities, removal of more than 600 Pokemon and more, there's too much missing and there really is no excuse for it. You can make a game that is beginner friendly that doesn't remove half of Pokmeon's established progress. Hold items, maybe I can understand that. But the removal of abilities is something that won't sit right with me regardless. Even the idea of only 151 Pokemon can be worked around, instead of the developers sticking to their favorite Kanto only Pokedex. It's as simple as introducing a large number of gen 2-7 Pokemon AFTER you beat the game.

I know that Pokemon Let's Go are meant to be bridging points for people who only played Pokemon GO, but I don't think that should've been how Pokemon made it's true debut on the Switch. There's a difference between the fanbase that's been with Pokemon for a long time and people who only played Pokemon GO cause they have a phone. And to regard the fact that this is the fifth trip back to Kanto doesn't do it for someone who isn't Kanto nostalgic. I would truly recommend these games to the very audience they're targeting; the Pokemon GO only players. If you've never played a Pokemon game, I can even recommend Sun/Moon/Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon beforehand, even if those games have their own flaws. But for those who have been with Pokemon for a long time, best save your excitement and your money for the 2019 titles. These aren't terrible games, but they're not for those looking for a true Pokemon experience.

I’ll be reviewing this from the five pillars of Gaming, Story, Graphics, Gameplay, Sound, and Controls.

Let’s begin with the story – You’re a Pokemon trainer, and your goal is to become a Pokemon Master, yeah and along the way you just happen to encounter this evil organization bent on world domination, and you, being that 10-year-old Pokemon Master, are the only one who can help.
I’ll be reviewing this from the five pillars of Gaming, Story, Graphics, Gameplay, Sound, and Controls.

Let’s begin with the story –

You’re a Pokemon trainer, and your goal is to become a Pokemon Master, yeah and along the way you just happen to encounter this evil organization bent on world domination, and you, being that 10-year-old Pokemon Master, are the only one who can help.
Yup, this is basically Pokemon Yellow all over again, and that isn’t a bad thing, but again, 12th and 13th time you’ve may have done this…

Story checks out, but Gameplay is the most controversial change -
Capturing Pokemon – Bonus’s are offered for better captures like Candies, and after capturing multiple Pokemon you can capture one with better stats as a possibility.
Pokemon appear on the over-world, while still mostly constrained to the spawning areas, caves, grass, water, you can see them, avoid them if you want or force the encounter you want, instead of random encounters.

Some people were worried about wild Pokemon battles being gone and the experience Grind, but in this game, you gain XP from multiple sources which balances out the lack of random wild battles, but I still feel like it is somewhat missed.
Some people feel there are plenty of Pokemon trainers in place of wild battles, but I still find it would be better to be able to test these new Pokemon captures in a wild battle before a trainer battle, but eh…
Ridable Pokemon replace the old bike, which is pretty cool because I always wanted to fly on a Charizard in Gen 1

And this is a remake/remaster/ Pokemon GO and Yellow smashed together, so yes, I can now ride Charizard…and Dragonite, and Rapidash, and Arcanine…
This is the first Pokemon main series game that is co-opable, but the second player is more of a tag along helper than a primary player themselves.
It is very great that you can play this game with your child, cousin, friend, whomever wants to play with you can now join in the fun without getting too deeply involved in the game.

The starter Pokemon are very focused on here -
Pikachu and Eevee are the ones that are focused on most out of all the Pokemon – they have unique cutscenes, animations, and interactivity.
Pikachu has some special moves to compensate for it being an electric type as a starter, but Eevee can learn a special move from its Eeveeluition forms, just don’t judge whomever created the names, cause they are really bad, like Baddy bad.

These new moves have been called OP by many people who have played the game extensively, and to that I simply say you could get moves like Bubble Beam, Thunderbolt, Psychic, Ice Beam, Rock Slide, and Body Slam fairly early in the original Gen 1 games.
These kinds of games require a player to limit themselves if they want a challenge, because you are not required to keep either Eevee or Pikachu in your team.
The user interface is completely different, cleaned up menus seem much more modern and look great.

Go Park is the transferable location where you can send your Pokemon from Pokemon GO to Pokemon Let’s GO, via mini games, it’s great if you played Pokemon GO a lot and will save you a lot of time if you want to challenge every master trainer in the game.
Because every Master Trainer requires each and every Pokemon, Pidgey, Pidgiotto, Pidgiot… Caterpie, Metepod, Butterfree…
Every one of them, and… yeah Pokemon Go transferring will save you that time of once again, recapturing them all…

Controls would be the next biggest change because this game is reliant on motion controls…
Motion controls are not good, handheld mode works better, but the accuracy of throwing a ball via a joycon is similar to Pokemon GO, it’s not the best.
And the capture chances always feel random, sometimes a low-level Pokemon will just break free instantly for no discernible reason.
But to add to this you can buy a Pokeball accessory that contains Mew, more importantly, you can use the Pokeball as a special Joy-con controller, which is supposed to enhance the experience… but… yeah.

I’ll leave that to your personal opinion, is $40 worth the money to play a Pokemon game with a Pokeball controller, that’s a hard sale for me, but maybe not for you.
Finally let’s finish with sounds, and from the music to the sound effects, it’s gen 1 and it never sounded so good. They sound great and invoke a great amount of nostalgia.
Pokémon is really great, and Let’s GO Pikachu will bring Kanto back once again, and finally to the big screen.

If you don’t enjoy Pokemon GO, you probably will not enjoy this, but if you can enjoy this game a nice nod back to the gen 1 series, you’ll probably have a good time with this game.
I have tried to avoid all spoilers of this game by using certain footage for those whom haven’t had a chance to play this generation yet.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Positives:
Seeing Pokemon on the over world is cool but outside of the lets go style of games that focus on singular gens, i wouldn't expect to see in future titles.
The motion controls when i used them worked decently.
Some of the gyms get a makeover for the better, Blaine's gym in particular comes to mind.
Access to the PC anywhere is cool i wouldn't say its a game changer though.

    Negatives:
There is nothing new for long time fans.
Catching the same Pokemon over and over again to grind for exp is pretty tedious and battles are not much better as the game really gives you no real reason to not use your partner Pikachu. The Go inspired catching mechanics are not great as it feels like there is really not much you can do to increase your odds of catching Pokemon. This feeling is at its worst when facing a legendary Pokemon and/or snorlax as the game forces you to tire them out with a battle which has a 5 minute time limit for some reason. if you win you get to attempt a capture. However the battling phase feels entirely pointless as the Pokemon does not seemed to be affected by the battle. Connection with Pokemon go is another not well thought out part as you have to recapture anything you transfer over, these are not instant or even easy catches in most cases, forcing you to waste resources. Also for whatever reason the Pokemon you transfer over can run away, there not gone forever in fact they're right where you encounter them. Which begs the question why can they run in the first place.

    The Worst:
My biggest problem with the game comes in the form of Meltan. To get Meltan you have to transfer a pokemon from go to lets go (Which you cannot transfer back into go.) after doing this you get an item in go, using said item will spawn meltan for 30 minutes. after the 30 minutes you have to wait 7 days to reopen it which requires you to transfer more pokemon after the 7 day period. Then you can transfer meltan into lets go however there is no way to evolve Meltan in lets go. This is a problem because Meltan takes 400 candies to evolve in go and walking with Meltan takes 20km to get a single candy. I caught 10 Meltans on my first opening of the box which is 30 candies, so to get the optional dex entry for Melmetal you have to waste probably months catching Meltans and then do the one way transfer into lets go. .

I was surprised to see how much fun it was. Things that I had found bad, like the end of the random battles, proved much better than I had expected. I watched on TV all my life around me and even the pokéball pitch that I had condemned so much in the end was fun. I played with him for wanting to play and I got infected. I saw how wrong I was to have judged a game, only by a few traillers, condemning the changes, without even experiencing them. I was captivated by the game. I had fun in a Pokémon game, something that had not happened for years, since there was no fun in the others, which were more centered, so to speak. Let's Go Pikachu was a fun experience and decides to buy the Eevee version, as I found the Eevee cute and got the female with the heart-shaped spot on the tail. Me and my boyfriend happened to switch pokémons, because of the exclusive versions. All I have to say is: Those who are undecided or who condemned the game, give it a chance. But a real chance. The game is fun and exciting. Besides the graphics are beautiful and the music is wonderful. There were minor changes in the events, which made it even better. I never imagined, a few months ago, that I would be praising a game I had condemned. But here I am, defending Let's Go and recommending to my friends. Expand

If I had to sum up my problems with these games it would be that they're very shallow, unambitious and soulless. ItIf I had to sum up my problems with these games it would be that they're very shallow, unambitious and soulless. After having normally proportioned humans and non-grid based environments in Sun and Moon it feels like a huge regression to suddenly have chibi characters and unnaturally squared world designs again, especially since the Switch is a much more powerful console than the 3DS. It doesn't help that it looks much cheaper than all other big Switch titles such as Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey or even Splatoon. That wouldn't really be a problem if it wasn't sold at the same price as these.

"But graphics aren't everything!" I can hear you say and you're absolute right. Sadly, the gameplay reflects the same half hearted, lackluster attitude as the game's looks. This 2018 game's map offers the exact same content as a Gameboy game from 1996. You might try the weak excuse of "It's a remake" but even that fails when the 2004 GBA remakes offered more content in form of the Sevii islands which also greatly expanded the amount of Pokemon you could encounter. LGPE has no such thing, no new post game areas, no way to encounter new Pokemon. It has the smallest regional dex with 153 since Diamond and Pearl but even GameFreak realised this and expanded it with Platinum. So this fully priced Switch game gives you less content than the 2004 GBA Kanto adventure and has the least Pokemon of any game since 2006.

Saying that LGPE are an overpriced, lazily made cash grab is at this point an understatement. But it even gets worse. The Pokeball plus accessory is the only way to obtain Mew in this way. Locking a Pokemon behind a 50$ paywell is just bad business practise. It's especially shocking to me that gamers are just accepting this since there was such a loud outcry againnst stuff like day 1 DLC, lootboxes and pay2win strategies. And GameFreak made sure you can't transfer Mew from Pokemon Go to Pokemon Let's Go. So they're fully aware of this and simply using it to exploit their customers.

I could go on about how the combat was stripped of all the mechanics that were introduced over the years such as abilities, hold items and natures or how the gym requirements further casualize a series that's already overblown with casualization but I think I've made my point. However, I do want to be fair and mention some positives for me like the usage of Pokemon on the overworld or that some characters were more fleshed out with more interactions.

On a technical level these games are fine. They're harmless fun for people who want to relive their childhood experiences of Kanto. But as someone who has been with this series for over 15 years I can't just ignore all of what I've said above. I can't ignore how much these games have been a regression from what came before and how exploitative and cheap they feel. It's not anyway near what the Switch or Pokemon as a franchise is capable of. And GameFreak is aware of that. They know they can just release mediocre, lackluster products and they will sell. That's the real reason why despite saying that on a technical level these games are fine I'm giving them such a low score. Scummy behavior like this should be discouraged as much as possible. I can only hope that Gen 8 will be better and have some actual effort put into them.

sigh...I am just so upset and worried at this point after playing Let's Go. It has so little content and many of the wonderful things that made the game progressively better were suddenly removed (held items, abilities, a ton of moves, BREEDING?!?!, fishing, day/night, wild battles, exp share off/on option, a developed story...) it is just so bare...SO bare that you can play and feel like you're the loneliest person on the planet. I want to attack and fight with my pokemon, not throw balls all day....but that is just me. I worry for the future...I hope they don't use these simplifications for the next game to be released because that will be crushing.
On a positive note...this game having an IV checker is fantastic and I like being able to easily tell how good or bad my catch is...that is about the only addition I was thrilled with though.
Please...PLEASE, Nintendo...also realize we are grown-ups now for the most part...intrigue us with something a bit darker if possible next time, or just keep the strategy alive so we are stimulated....

The fact that you can see wild pokemon running through the grass or caves makes it so much less tedious than complete random encouters.

However, the problems around the game are an absence of features that have come to be expected in the series. Pokemon do not have abilities. There is no GTS, and the online features are absolutely bare bones. Wild pokemon aren't battled, just caught. On top of this, the balancing of difficulty is completely out of whack, and there isn't any opportunity to customise this (such as switching off xp share in previous titles). Some animations in the game are incredibly lazy, and I'm not referencing the pokemon here as I think it's understandable to not have every pokemon have fluid attacking animations. Some character animations are recycled incoherently into different activities and it looks bad if you notice it. There's also just a straight-up shortage in the variety of pokemon in the game.

It'd be fair to disregard alot of the negative reviews for this game, as I think the game does some things well and the experience can be enjoyable. But the game is very casual even for a pokemon game, which is perplexing because the pokemon franchise was always comprehendable by young children. A genuine missed opportunity for something more - don't bother if you're looking for post-game/competitive play or a challenge. Good if you want to focus on collecting pokemon. A good bridge from pokemon go into the main franchise.

Truthfully I was't very excited by the initial announcement and everything leading up to release but I decided the game deserved a fair shot. From my time the best way I can describe the game is an overpriced mediocre rehash with some good ideas with poor execution.

Let's get the good out of the way. Firstly the music is the strongest aspect of this game all of it is very faithful and sounds completely wonderful and I hope the OST gets a release in the future.

Wild pokemon actually appearing and walking around in the world is one of the best changes to game play the series has had in a long time and I hope this aspect actually sticks around.

Difficulty of the game is mostly fine assuming you ditch your starter early on namely if you went with Eevee. The game's performance is fairly good as well. I've only encountered issues in one area where the frame rate crashed. The changes to the Kanto story we already know are welcomed in mixing it up.

The secret techniques your starter learns in place of HMs is another good change although this 'change' was basically present in the Sun and Moon games as well via Pokeride. The capture chaining is a nice mechanic as well. This mostly sums up the good points I had with the game.

    Now for the bad points...
For starters the elephant in the room... the lack of wild battles and the capture system. Whenever I went to capture pokemon after the first two gyms is when the game stopped being fun. The controls regards of how you go (Motion, gyro, stick aim) are all fairly frustrating namely the broken motion controls that very often do what they want to do rather what you want them to do. Couple this issue with the fact that the capture process quickly devolves into throwing a ball and praying that it catches with you having little influence on effecting the outcome aside form throwing a berry (Which honestly doesn't seem to help that much.) Then the added 'challenge' to catching pokemon later on is that they begin erratically hopping around which renders the motion controls worthless and makes the other schemes in undocked mode more frustrating.

The next point is the visual. Now honestly the game's visual are just okay at best, but that's the problem. The game looks like the Sun and Moon engine from 3DS up scaled to HD. This shouldn't be surprising as I believe it's likely this game was developed in a short amount of time. Hopefully next year will prove different.

Next we have the post game or rather the lack of. Once you mop up the Elite 4 and finish your pokedex there is little to no reason to keep playing. Master trainers are a thing but while I feel they are a good concept they are very poorly executed. 153 are excessive and them being 1v1 mirror matches doesn't help. It would have been more effective to have just made a master trainer for every pokemon type rather than every pokemon. Beyond these you have gym leader and Elite 4 rematches and a few 'superboss' trainers but little else.

Now another big point. The striping of a large amount of mechanics. Ignoring the 700 or so pokemon absent there are alot of staple features missing in these games. Firstly abilities and hold items are completely gone removing a layer of strategy and options. Breeding is also gone. Wonder trade is gone, Super training, Pokemon Amie and any of the likes is also gone.

Now the last point the price point. Now I will say for the pathetic lack of new content the 60$ US price tag is way too much. You can get Yellow on the 3ds eshop right now for 10$ and you basically get 80% of the same content just without the fancy graphics. Firered and Leafgreen were only 30-40$ and managed to outdo these games. Couple that with the 40-50$ pokeball plus (Which holds Mew hostage btw. You can't even transfer Mew from Pokemon GO if you play it) and they're just asking way too much for what is basically a shallow yet pretty rehash of a 20 year old game. Honestly it feels like a lazy half hearted cash grab.

In closing it's a solid 6/10. It's okay but I find it hard to recommend. If you play Pokemon GO then you'll likely enjoy it alot, if you're someone stuck in Gen 1 with nostalgia glasses you'll likely enjoy it alot as well. For everyone else I'd say skip it unless it drops to 40$ or under (It won't.) we have hopefully fully fleshed and content rich core pokemon games coming next year, so if you got an itch grab an older 3DS game and give it another go or buy the original Yellow on the Eshop for 1/6th the price of this.

Random battles often got quite tedious and they basically made it cleaner and easier. I think if they refined it a bit, it would be a step in the right direction. The old method let you strategically place status effects and lower their health to increase your odds and that was what was missing here. All you choose is which ball to choose and maybe throw a berry. Still, I think giving a 1 or 2 score just because of the new capture system is just ignorant. What I really wish was different was the pikachu/evee part. You can play with your respective partner, but only them. Pokemon Amie for X&Y had this feature with EVERY pokemon, so I feel like they took a step backwards with that. The post game is also severely lacking. I don't understand the point/fun of master trainers. I did enjoy having the ability to travel with another pokemon of my choice though. I'm excited to see what their next game will be as I see this as a stepping stone for the devs, to test out the switch's capabilities and to play around with new mechanics. Expand

As time went by the number of people playing it decreased but, the community was still strong because of all the improvements made to it. Early this year the Pokemon Company announced two new Pokemon games which were an untitled Gen 8 Pokemon game and Let’s Go Eevee and Pikachu. Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee are basically remakes of Pokemon Yellow and the main difference with this game and the original was the graphical upgrade and the gameplay would integrate a lot of elements introduced in Pokemon Go. Like the popularity of Pokemon Go the announcement of these Let’s Go games were mixed. After playing Let’s Go Pikachu I now consider this one of my favorite Pokemon games I have ever played.

Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee storywise are the same thing; the only difference is the starter you get in the beginning. The game starts with you and your rival visiting Professor Oak and getting your respective Pokemon and in my case I got Pikachu. Now after getting your Pokemon your adventure begins; which means you catch Pokemon in the wild, train them, eventually face a gym leaders, battle the elite 4, and finally face off with the champion and that's game. This game also has you encountering Team Rocket a number of times and stopping them from doing mischievous deeds. This game also features returning Team Rocket members Jessie and James many are familiar with via Pokemon Yellow or the Pokemon anime. While storywise this game is pretty straightforward, there are many times during the game where moments with certain character enhanced the experience. It was pretty neat to see Blue again, and there was a really nice moment with Lorelei that helped make her stand out more other than just being an Elite 4 member.

Battles was something many were worried about because as much as I enjoyed Pokemon Go, the battle weren't exactly the best part of the game. And with the information being released about no more battling wild Pokemon the question was how will we gain experience in this game. There are main trainers you encounter as you go from city to route to cave to city. As for wild Pokemon themselves you only are able to catch them like you did in Pokemon Go and the process is literally the same where you can give Pokemon berries and the effect of each berry is different. If you are using a joy con you just fling the control in the direction the Pokemon is or if you are playing in handheld you can aim the throw with the control stick or use the gyro and then press A to throw the ball. Which begs the question why you can’t use your Pro Controller in this game because the controller does have gyro and what not. A really great feature added to this game with wild encounterment is that Pokemon can be seen in the overworld, so now you just have to go after the Pokemon you want instead of getting the same thing again and again.

As for complaints I have with this game, I do think this is the easiest Pokemon game I have ever played, and with your starters its makes this game a joke. Your starters can learn new type of moves for example Eevee can learn Fire, Water, Dark, Psychic, Ice, and Fairy Type moves and some of them have guarantee status ailments, and some moves can have Eevee go first every time. It’s also unfortunate that abilities are not present in this game because the intention with this game is to welcome newcomers and people nostalgic towards the original game, and in order to do that is by not bringing in the new features introduced in later games. Which I understand why the developers decided to go that route, but for me Pokemon always felt like a nice introduction into RPG’s and the fact that the developers took out features introduced in recent games that weren’t really that complicated to understand, I just fine funny.

This game has been talked bad about by a lot of fans of Pokemon. That hasn’t stopped the success of this game and really I am glad that it is doing well. This game was easy and I was fine with that. I needed a game like this because I don’t always want to play a game where you have to focus on a lot happening and in this game it was simple: catch Pokemon, battle trainers, and win that's it. This was a nice nostalgia trip for me too because I did grow up watching and playing Pokemon and this was just a great time. If the Pokemon Company wants to make more Let’s Go games true be told I would be fine with it because I know that the main series Pokemon games are still coming. Gen 8 will not play like Let’s Go but, I do hope that some features like wild Pokemon showing up in the wild is a returning feature. The music in this game is fantastic and another thing that is exciting me for Gen 8. I would recommend people to try out Pokemon Let’s Go because it is a really great time, and they may have the same feeling coming out after playing it which is excitement for what is to come for Pokemon on Switch.

The cut-scenes are great and the aesthetics is one of the best ones so far.

The game it's a bit easie than previous ones, but you can make it harder by not abusing the catch streak to lvl up.
They have made a lot easier to get shinies and pokemons with perfect IV, so if you like to go for shiny/IV hunting, you're going to like this.
Overall a solid game, it could have been better with a little more dept, but still a solid entry.

I decided to give them a chance for the "junk game," as many people said, and I discovered that they were just blind haters. Because when playing, I was excited. My niece had Let's Go Eevee and as I played, I was overwhelmed by a strong feeling of nostalgia and I became excited with each catch, interact with the Pokémon, they followed you, being the difference interactions. I decided to buy Let's Go Eevee to have a game of mine and not have to make an excuse to stay at my sister's house when I wanted to play. I started playing in my house and I was falling in love. Soon I saw that the criticisms I read so much were unfounded and the result of haters, which only turned away hatred blind and intense. I researched and saw that it would be a parallel line of games and I loved that idea. It will have the traditional line and this parallel. I was thrilled when my world expanded at the end of the Elite Four. Seriously, I was happy when I saw myself flying high in the sky, crossing the map at will on the back of my Charizard. Seeing everything from above was indescribable and the challenge of the Masters, very challenging. I thought to pass them and luckily, I bought pokéball plus. I was able to challenge Mew's master. I finished Let's Go Eevee, I bought Let's Go Pikachu. I'm in Elite Four and I barely see the time of my world being expanded. I super indicate this game and I ask to ignore the haters.
The first remake, FireRed/LeafGreen, had much more content available for a lower price (and a free dongle to trade wirelessly and play minigames) but even the original Red/Blue/Yellow is giving Let's Go run for its money when it comes to the value provided. Add to that performance issues like unstable framerate or unrefined motion controls, and it's very hard to justify the price tag to anyone who either respects his/hers money or the series itself.
While I don't condemn changes made to the game's formula in Let's Go, there being no way to adjust gameplay according to one's preferences, like turning back on wild Pokemon battles, turning off exp. share or simply allowing the players to use the ProController, builds an image of an unfinished product, which stands out in a bad way among (mostly) great games so far released by Nintendo on Switch.

Seeing pokemons roaming the overworld was a dream come true, and the new pokemon catching mechanic didn't bother me. The old mechanic of having to weaken pokemons sometimes felt like a complicated grind to me, either way I don't have a preference for what the catching mechanics should be for the next core game.

But, of course, it is a Game Freak game, meaning a complete lack of ambition. The game would be so much better if Game Freak decided to expand and create fewer but bigger games. The NPCs are just standing there, not moving and all looking the same. Game Freak didn't bother giving them at least different hair and clothes colors. This makes the world feel dead or weird at times. The menus are still convoluted. The game requires so many buttons presses for the simplest of actions, like healing pokemons and looking at the map. Riding Charizard is cool until you need to go through a building to reach the next area : you then have to go into the menu and put him back in the Pokeball and take him out again once you went through...

Final point, I am clearly upset by the one joycon controls. The fact that Game Freak forced them into our throats and didn't implement the Pro Controller compatibility is such a cheap move to entice customers to buy the pokeball plus, which, by the way, is the only way to get Mew. When will the masterminds at Game Freak finally be replaced by younger people who love gaming and understand gamers ? Who knows.

Overall, the Pokemon franchise is so charming that, despite its obvious flaws, it is still a pleasure to play these games. They deserve 8/10 for me.

They change some game play since you catch most wild pokemon instead of battling them(some you do still battle). This isnt that big of a deal to me but something i would not want to carry over into the 2019 gen 8. The throwing creates its own lvl of difficulty and strategy as well. One must learn to pay attention to the pokemons animations and do not just toss balls at it. I think i would quite enjoy a combination of fighting and throwing. Since throwing the ball, especially when you have the pokeball plus, is really immersive and fun way to play the game. I recommend getting the pokeball plus as i think it is worth the price which is the same as other joycons. You can also take your pokemon out for walks and play with it to hear it make noises from the controller. Which honestly is such a great idea.

one other thing i really enjoyed that i hope makes it into gen 8 is pokemon following you. This is something fans have been wanting for a long time. I also enjoy being able to see the pokemon in the world. This makes the game a really immersive experience seeing and hearing the pokemon.

things i think are a bit disappointing is the fact that you can not play mini games in the arcade which is why i gave this a 9/10. There is no reason not to be at least able to have mini games in the arcade. This could have really raised the fun aspect of the game. Another thing is although i do highly recommend the pokeball plus as a controller i do not think including mew in it is very fair to other players. I like the idea of it coming with a pokemon so im not exactly sure what they should have done. but this is the only way to get mew so i just dont think thats fair. However it is worth the price as a controller and is a lot of fun.

While the game has a few changes it really sticks to the core of what makes pokemon pokemon. It is a full fledged pokemon game and i am personally very happy with my purchase.

I played Red, Yellow, and Gold when I was a child, and returned to play HeartGold and Emerald later on. I honestly don't miss having to battle wild Pokemon in an attempt to catch them. I also like what they have done with the Exp sharing, so now I don't have to burn a turn of battle trying to level a weaker Pokemon. I like that they used some advanced mechanics (Pokemon types, moves, etc) from later generation games. While the wild Pokemon mechanic used in this game - you can see them before you encounter them - might lead some to madness, I quite appreciate being able to pick and choose what, when, and where I encounter one.

However, the fact that this game is solely in Kanto and contains only the original 151 Pokemon from generation 1 is a huge limiting factor in my opinion of this game. In 2018, it is simply unacceptable for a feature-priced game to be limited in such a serious manner. They could've at least, and I do emphasize LEAST, included Johto. I suppose I shouldn't be particularly surprised, however, as several of the classic franchise, Nintendo-exclusive Switch games (Kirby, Mario Party) have been severely lacking depth of content. It's a disturbing trend I've noticed, and there remains no evidence to suggest that might halt or reverse in the future (may the gods have mercy on the Smash review board!). I also find the motion controls frustratingly, severely lacking the ability to pick up the more subtle movements the game seems to force one to make (L/R motion is particularly terrible!). I also find the lack of local multiplayer to be a big downside - sure, no Pokemon game has had it before, but in a game where you use one of a minimum of two Joy-Cons, I don't see why they couldn't fold in a better way to fold in a deeper local multiplayer experience. This issue is even worse when viewed in the context both of several recent open-world RPGs which do a marvelous job of incorporating local, split-screen multiplayer, and when considering that local multiplayer games is one of the biggest assets and marketing items for the Switch. Lastly, I'll just remark that they did, in fact, essentially nerf the game by buffing the starter Pokemon to high heaven; if you want a challenge in this game, you'll have to manufacture it yourself.

All this said, I still have logged over 20 hours in this game, and I will likely end up well over 100, because, hey, those Pokemon ain't gonna catch themselves!. It's a fun game, just with some glaring flaws that simply shouldn't exist in a game in a franchise that's over 20 years old now. .

Great fun relaxed style of play and occasionally very challenging. Having not owned or played any of the previous Pokémon games I was pleasantly surprised by how addictive it could be I highly recommend it.

The graphics is the best in the series and a nice thing is that another player can join at anytime for support, so a lot of fights become much easier. You can also combine for dual-catch techniques to increase your chances to catch more difficult Pokemon.
You can transfer some of your Pokemon Go creatures to the Switch (but not back) which helps you complete the Pokedex. Story is very Pokemon typical, nice, but nothing special, quite child friendly. I don't care for the Pokemon franchise (my favorite game on the Switch is Octopath Traveler), but for playing co-op with my daughter "Let's Go" is quite fun.

Having played the Pokemon games all my life since they were first released on a Gameboy, I feel like this was the first time I had played Pokemon in years.

Why, you may ask? Well over the years as I learned to use the various game mechanics (IV'S EV'S etc.) to my advantage, all the Pokemon (even new releases) just became numbers for me. They didn't feel like Pokemon anymore. I didn't feel like I was playing a Pokemon game, instead I was just playing a numbers game where you could replace the Pokemon with static stick men and nothing would change.

This game was a refreshing change in that it removed most of the numbers and made the focus on catching Pokemon (You know, gotta catch 'em all, and all that?). I felt like a kid again, I felt like I just wanted to catch them all just because I could, and not just because I felt I needed a specific stick man for breeding to get some specific skill for another stick man.

The game however was a bit too easy, but it didn't really bother me because I was having fun, honest to god fun. Something I hadn't experienced in ANY game for a long long while. Just good old fun with no calculating optimal stick figure builds or the weight of the world weighing down on my shoulders. I was on a journey with Pokemon, and that's all there was to it.

However as much I liked this nice little break between Pokemon games I still feel the next game should be a more traditional game. This game, even though I did enjoy it as a nice break, should indeed stay as just a break from the usual formula. There's just something about building the perfect stick man. Something other games can't really nail down.

The last game i played was octopath traveler and dana of lacrimosa . I loved the first one and i enjoed the second one .But from the august i didn't have played anything on my switch and i really wanted to . So i wanted to buy something new and i checked to see my options and i saw that i have to choose from 30euro games with 2 to 12 hours content and 50 euros pokemon lets go which i thought will have more than 30 hours content and technical is an rpg game which i like . So i choose the pokemon .

I just finished the game with 24 hours playtime and when i say i finished i mean got mewtwo and his mega forms. its the same game as the original 3 games with some new mechanics but it wasn't fun atleast for me it felt like chore more . And the post game i find really laze for my taste to bother .

What i wanted to say is that for me the new pokemon doen;t worth the money tag but at the same time i can't find anything worth or exclusive to buy on the switch.

There are a bunch of Easter eggs and throwback moments that bring a smile to my face when I see them. Ever since I was a kid I always wanted to catch Pokemon by actually throwing the Pokeball myself and I can finally do that in this game. It did take awhile to adjust to throwing the ball to the sides. Stripping the battles from encounters stings but i'm happy that there are still battles against trainers and legendary Pokemon. Playing co-op with a friend and battling alongside them is a welcomed feature. The master trainers are also a fun challenge. I found myself trying out a variety of different Pokemon on my team because progression is VERY quick and it's easy to become overpowered right from the beginning. The extra details in the towns and the gyms always had me on the lookout for what else might be hiding in the game. It's the simple things like a Meowth sleeping on top of a cave entrance that get to me. I play Let's Go for what it is and it's a game for newcomers. Expand

    NEGATIVO:

    NOTA: 6/10

The catching mechanic is a slap in the face to anyone who found Pokemon Go already dumbed down, but I actually grew to like it for a couple gyms. But then it gets insanely old with no interesting storylines to keep us interested, and grinding for anything like a shiny is so monotonous, at least I used to have to go to the Pokemon canter to refresh PP. Battling and trying to catch a rare Pokemon used to pay off, now what's the point of training up? I can use every Pokemon I have at any time during the game, are there going to be events or expanded multiplayer? With the absence of held items, random battles, and everything else that made the main series different from every other knockoff, I feel like I'm playing a knockoff. If I wanted to just play anything with the Pokemon name on it, I'll pick up Pokemon Pinball again, even that has depth.

Really I'm just disappointed, this feels like a game that could have come out on my iPhone 5 years ago. Anyone who's played one of those online Pokemon MMO's knows the potential of this game. We could have seen real players walking around in game and spark up a battle in Viridian Forrest, or at least battle something. Why would you advertise or even hint at such potential and then deliver such a stripped down version, are they taking tips from Bethesda? lol. I really wish this game was fun. They've had me hooked since I was 10 and I want to play a great (or even good) Pokemon game, but this isn't it. Just download one of the knockoff Pokemon games on your app store, any of those will deliver about as much content.

I will say the music and graphics, etc. have improved, but who gave a hoothoot about that when playing Pokemon? Priorities are reversed, hopefully some of this feedback gets to the developers and they make a game for us again. This game is for children or people who have never played a Pokemon game or video game at all. If it was billed/marketed this way, there would be only a fraction of these poor reviews.

    cons:

i missed the pokemon abilities and the item system (Pokemon can't hold items).
But the game is not designed in that way and next year comes generation 8. so i think i can live with that but i dont think these points were to "difficult" to understand für newbies. ;-)

The Joycon controls are a little bit to sketchy for my taste. I play mostly in Handheldmode and dont understand why they dont implement Pro-controller support. (maybe in future patches)

What i dont understand is the bad userscore. The game is so lovely and you can see that they tried to give all players something to love in this game. They said that there will be a 8 gen game next year.

Oak is now a dick by making a joke about forgetting his grandson's name, "Trace" is a poor man's Hat and Green put together (and I hated Hau personally), Green is back for some reason and they changed him too much for that point in his development, and nothing has been improved. There are no more held items nor Abilities (which FireRed and LeafGreen had), the new moves are laughably bad (like the infamous Baddy Bad), the over reliance on charm means every other aspects were overlooked, and I personally did not like the Go mechanics from the ground up, even though that was also a mess in general.

Did this game do good things? Sure. The Master Trainers are a neat idea (though I feel they went overboard with every single Pokémon having one, meaning for the most part you have to stop them from evolving and feed them candies for the postgame), Blue being canon is nice though ultimately unnecessary, rematching the Gym Leaders is cool (even though it's not the first game to do so), and I guess the Pokémon following you again was nice (though not a deal maker/breaker for me). But those positives are vastly outclassed by negatives that are a lot more essential in a game. The controls barely work, but hey look at that Pikachu's clothes! It's just hiding your head in the sand.

I also think that because of the new combo feature and the Shiny Charm, it makes catching shiny Pokemon more enjoyable and easier rather than spending hours on end trying to find that one shiny Pokemon you were looking for. There are many features that are unpleasant and disappointing about this game as well. I found this game to be quite fun when I was playing it. I liked battling all the gyms and battling the Elite Four again, but after that I quickly lost interest in the game. I myself am not a shiny hunter so that takes the aspect of "chaining" as I call it and filling up the PokeDex out of the question. The "Master Trainers" don't provide a interesting thing to do after the game, and Team Rocket does a lousy job of trying to battle your trainer again after the game. Overall, I am disappointed in the post game adventure unlike Sun, Omega Ruby, and X. I also am not a fan of the catching mechanism that Game-freak used in this game. I find myself using too many Pokeballs and infuriating myself on how Pokemon somehow instantaneously flee from battles breaking my chains. I am used to spending 1-3 Pokeballs in the other core games rather than 7-9 Pokeballs in this game. I also dislike how there are only 151 core Pokemon in this game (excluding the legendary, special Pokemon, and the Alolan Pokemon). This makes for the game to be somewhat boring and tiring going through. I honestly think there is a lack of story line here both in game and post game. The way that Game-freak merged the game with Pokemon Go was disappointing and unpleasant for the core gamers. Overall, I think you should give this game a try. It's not only my opinion that shapes your mind to whether you want to buy the game or not. I think it should not be called a core series game and more of a sub-series game. Disappointing overall. I hate it when people decide to destroy scores based on their entitled notions of what they believe this game should be to them. So I wrote this to say that if you're a parent with a small child that likes Pokemon Go, it's a blast to play this together. It's Kanto of old with some fun new twists thrown in, and having Eevee or Pikachu with you feels amazing. It's like playing the anime. Don't listen to the manbabies that think every game should catter to their crystalized taste of what a Pokemon game is. I've had loads of fun with Sun and Moon, but also with this simpler entry, and I don't even have kids. But I can still appreciate it for what it tries to do. And since Nintendo will introduce the next chapter of de main series next year, I don't really understand what these people complain about.

A lot of critics say that the main series is more complex than this game, they also say that Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee feels like a spin-off with an easier approach to its systems, one that might be cool for new players who think Pokemon Sun and Moon are too daunting for them to get into. They are right. And I want to extend a hand to those players, who love Pokemon Go, and want to try something a bit more hardcore, but not as much as the mainline RPG games. This is made for you, but also for those who like Kanto and gladly see it in HD on the big screen. Honestly, this game is polished as hell, it's not bad or broken in any way. It's loads of fun too, but it's just different from what we're used to with Pokemon RPG's. And that is fine.

Firstly the story is near identical with the exception of a few minor changes so nothing worth going into in that much depth, it's enjoyable never something that will completely engrossing but it's also not exactly boring, it's basic and dull but you can't ever expect much from a Pokemon story let alone one that's been done over and over by this point.

Most people were concerned about the catching mechanics, with the usual format of battling a wild Pokemon until their health is low enough to attempt catching them being removed and replaced with the Pokemon Go style of throwing a Pokeball at every Pokemon you run into. To be completely honest it's far more fun than I ever expected it to be, I'm didn't stop for each and every pokemon but I certainly would go out of my way to catch any Pokemon I had not already caught. it made completing the Pokedex less of a chore, this is aided by seeing the Pokemon roaming around it just helped create a charming and enjoyable tone.

The difficulty was the next fear is it the super easy introduction we all assumed it would be... Sort of, I found it harder than I had expected but I thought you could basically complete it the first time without even looking at the game. But it could be difficult at points never too difficult but points that took me back thinking this is far from what I expected, but still a million times easier than the original incarnation of the Kanto games that being Red/Blue.

Something that may interest many of you is the shiny hunting. Is it tiresome and tedious? It's about as easy as you would expect with the game. But the roaming Pokemon certainly aids the experience of shiny hunting, I ended up catching a shiny Bulbasaur when just testing the shiny mechanics on a Weedle.

Another post-game feature that you may spend time on rather than shiny hunting is the Pokemon Mastery trainers, where there are trainers who have a strong version of a specific Pokemon and you get the chance to challenge them with your own version of that Pokemon to see who is the ultimate (insert Pokemon) master trainer.

I found my time with Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu enjoyable throughout, even with the parts that are purely for newcomers to the franchise they were never too frustrating or annoying but it would at points take away from my experience but I still would recommend it to Switch owners as there is truly nothing else like it on the system right now and until next year main-line Pokemon game release I fine with playing this game, I'm fine completing all the Pokemon mastery trainers and shiny hunting. And with that, I give it and 8 out of 10.

My advice is... Don't believe the user score, it has become a HATE CAN just for not being the main line some where expecting. Even if you don't like it, it does not deserve a 0 or 1, is NOT that bad. This is a GOOD quality game, and those trying to deny that aren't judging through the right lens.

-The coop sounded amazing in theory but it is propably the worst thing about the game. As player 2 you are not only unable to interact with anything in the game but you are mere a teleporting hologram following the protagonist to enable him a 2 v 1 battle. Thats it (well you can stun roaming pokemon for about 1.5 seconds to help the real player catch it more easily). Oh and if the protagonist initiates a 2 v 2 battle you are getting straight up benched. The most anoying thing about coop is that it unbalances the allready ridiculous easy game to a point were it is just not anymore enjoyable.
-The catching system is straight out of Pokemon Go. I personally didnt enjoy this concept but i get why people would prefer the "throw ball in face feature" over the old fashioned way. What noone should enjoy is that the throwing mechanic is frustratingly unpredictable and shouldnt have left the aplha version of this game.
-The xp rate of just blindly catching anything you see wins against all other means of getting xp wich leads to the pokemon mass production playstyle we all love from pokemon go. Catch a lot of pokemon > Put them in the "send to oaks blender" > Get Candy > Feed the pokemon that matter. Oh and the pokemon that matters is really just Eevee, wich is so ridiculously overpowered that after teaching it its new abilitys, we at some point had to remove it from the team for ruining the combat experience.
    - The new Breeding experience for the people that love to create the perfect Pokemon is quite non existing. After seeing a ditto pillow in the daycare center i got shortly exited, but then i realized you can put there only one pokemon at a time. Removing another aspect i loved about the main series.
They just removed pokemons selling points, copied the cashgrab mobile, increased the graphics , increased the price and created the most casual experience i had for a very long time, almost as if this game was targeted towards toddlers.

Cons: Public need more quickness when they are playing than we had 20 years ago, and I think there is not enough work on it in this game. We deserve an open world of pokemon. I think there have been different forms to play pokemon apart from pokemon go or latest games of pokemon from 3DS, Nintengo pelase, take a though on it.

My score would be 75. Nonetheless I think that the current 5.9 is unfair, so i am going to put 10 instead.

All days I go out my home and catch pokemon on GO and then ,in my home, transfer my new pokemon to switch. Pokémon: Let's Go, Évoli! was heavily criticized before the release. Especially the removal of battles against wild Pokemon was described as a burden. When playing shows, however, that the new system also has its advantages. So it is less dependent on chance, because you can choose the desired Pokemon

That said, I'm having a really great time, if you don't go around catching every pokemon you see (thus keeping the exp you get under control), or limit your party when they're getting too strong by swapping with weaker mons (that actually makes you feel more like a trainer that takes care of every mon he's got), the game can "feel" challenging too, but again...pokemon's never been challenging in the first place, I wasn't expecting challenge here either.
The graphics are great, the new catching system is less grindy in a pleasurable way, keeping the experience at a decent pace and allowing you to enjoy and relax trough te story.
I don't know why people was expecting something different, given that this game has been marketed as an entry point for new players that have discovered and got passionate about pokemon trough the mobile app.
There's no need to make it a matter of principle, if you are into the competitive/more focused approach to the game, stick to the current gen till the next comes out, in which I hope some of the quality of life improvements (such as the new catching system) will be carried over, in tandem with the more strategic-rpg like elements like held items and so on.

If you wanna have some relaxed fun and have some spare money, just get the game and be positive, this game is about childhood and positivity, it's the game I would have wanted to play when I was a little kid, and it's the game I'd like nowadays kid to play.

However aside from those issues, the game is quite fun. I love the overall art style of this game. It really suits Pokemon quite well. The only real problem I had was how the game was marketed, but the marketing does not affect the game.
Pokemon lets go is a truly fun experience for all ages, also the game hit over 3 million copies sold in the first week, which is a record on the Nintendo switch, meaning it beat Mario Odyessy and Zelda botw in the amount of units sold on the first week.

Pokemon Lets go, Pikachu is essentially a 20 year old game with 5 year old graphics and a slightly new catching system. The only enjoyable aspects of this game for me were collecting the 150 pokemon. The trainer battles are a slog and ultimately come down to getting out your type advantage and spamming a move until on pokemon dies. So i'm glad there aren't any wild battles because they would've made the slog much worse. The battles do get better though and I find myself cheering for my mons like I did when i was a little kid. Unfortunately this was only around the 6th gym.

The resolution is a step up but it should be and the cut scenes with your avatar are nice. However, in x and y(not sure about sun and moon) there are moving dynamic backgrounds with flowing foliage and petals dancing in the wind; these effects aren't present in lets go. There are these nice models with some pretty stellar battle animations(Lovely Kiss, Blizzard are two of my faves) but the arena's themselves seem very rigid and almost lifeless. Also the limited amount of camera angles become noticeable a dozen hours in. In pokemon stadium there would be a lot of wide sweeping shots or aerial shots that aren't present here. I think its because the battle arenas are too small and to properly see large pokemon like onix or alolan exeggecutor the camera would have to zoom past the boundaries.
The overworld locations are almost all pretty forgettable and some places even bleed into eachother. The gyms are kinda nice though and the 7th one is a real treat.

catching pokemon is a lot more fun and probably was the most enjoyable part of the game for me.
I never played much go so maybe it would've been stale if i played that. I love that you can see pokemon on the overworld and I think the catch combo system is pretty neat. I never bothered shiny hunting in the previous series because it was a whole lot of work but it seems almost feasible in this game. Also the ability to just avoid pokemon is really nice if i want to get on to my next objective. Ultimately, in the previous games catching pokemon boiled down to getting the enemy pokemon down to 1 health, giving them paralysis or sleep and then hoping for the best. Once you figure it out it's not fun or engaging it's just an extra hoop to jump through. The new system is straight up gambling with a minigame but it's a lot faster and cuts out the extra steps.

All in all this is a pretty lazy remaster of red and blue. there's still a lot of fun to be had in building up your team and catching the 150(171 i think if you count alolans, meltan and mew). But everything else just feels like work. definitely not worthy of a 10 but also definitely not worthy of a 0.

My Pokémon journey started way back in the day, on my Gameboy Pocket (a red one) with Pokémon Blue. I've played nearly every mainline game since that point with a few exceptions so needless to say I'm familiar, even a little worn out with the formula.

The Let's Go games are an easy, very streamlined version of Pokémon Yellow. It's an attempt by Nintendo and the Pokémon Company to entice users of the Pokémon Go mobile game into a home console setting, of which many may never have considered themselves "gamers" or ever owned a home console. This is evident with several similarities in terms of core game mechanics along with tie ins to the mobile game.

The first, and most obvious one is the name, there's no doubt the decision to name it "let's go!" was done to draw the attention of Pokémon Go players. Secondly, and perhaps the most controversial decision was replacing the traditional wild battles with the capture mechanic from the mobile game. Normally, you'd wander in grass until you "found" a Pokémon with the type you face being dictated by RNG. From there you'd fight it with your own Pokémon until it was in a weakened state at which point you'd chuck a few Pokéballs in the hope that you could capture it. With the shift towards the mobile game this has been entirely cut and replaced with simply throwing a Pokéball at a Pokémon that may or may not be moving around the screen. There's also a shrinking ring which dictates whether you get a "great" or "excellent" throw, whether this has an impact on catch rates I'm unsure but it certainly gives you higher XP gains. Needless to say, there's very little depth to this sort of encounter. You can throw different berries at Pokémon to calm it (stop it jumping around) or to make them slightly easier to catch however that's about all there is to it.

Outside of these encounters the game is mostly the same as it always has been, you fight trainers on the road and endeavour to collect eight gym badges so that you can challenge the Elite Four and become a Pokémon Champion. You also have your "friendly" rival, who this time is a childhood friend and not a jerk. I called my rival "(Not) Gary" and you meet him many times on the course of your play through as per previous titles.

Graphically the game is rather basic in terms of it's art style however that's not to say it looks bad. Pokémon has never looked this good in my opinion and it's great to see a HD title finally hitting the Switch. The Pokémon themselves look fantastic and some of the moves have really exciting animations which really put things into perspective when you think of those classic 2D sprites on a greyscale LCD screen. Put simply, the game looks great and performance was solid across the board. I did notice a few very minor FPS drops when playing in hand held mode but it didn't detract from the overall experience at all.

The music also sounds great, with those classic tunes getting a rehash for modern times. The voice work for Pikachu and Eevee is also lovely, with Pikachu sounding incredibly cute with his "Pika pika!" antics as we've come to love over the years. I was however disappointed that the other Pokémon still use the tired old sounds from the old Gameboy games. In this day and age with the development budgets involved for Pokémon I'm sure they could voice ALL those pocket monsters and not just the two titular examples. It's very jarring switching out Pikachu with the "pika!" to a frankly low quality and dated "grrrrdbrrrrrr" or whatever from whichever Pokémon you're bringing into the fray. You can do better here Nintendo!

Controls are limited strictly to the joy cons and Pokéball Plus. I can understand the lack of Pro Controller support to a point, but it's still a little disappointing. Personally I got the bundle with the Pokéball Plus and while it can feel a little cramped after a long play session for a child it will fit perfectly. I do have one criticism however and that is the lack of documentation for the device. You have the B button in the top of the Pokéball and the A button is a push button as part of the micro stick, what they don't tell you is that you can use the "Y" button by shaking the device to the side to access some menu options. It would have been nice to see some more explanation in game than what we get however it's a minor detail. Motion controls for both Pokéball Plus and joy cons work well, with just the occasional "where did that go?" moment when throwing Pokéballs. In hand held mode motion controls are used to adjust your view with the A button to throw Pokéballs.

In all, I'm enjoying the game. It sets out to do what the developers intended and that's to bridge the gap between the mobile and main line titles. It's not for everyone especially veterans of the series. However it's fun and I can respect it as a Pokémon game in it's own right.

So if you're a fan of Gen 1 Pokemon this is a great remake. It's definitely the best looking Pokemon game since all the rest have been on handhelds with lower powered systems. The Switch offers both hand held & more power.

The game is about 30 hours of content & then there's end game content. You can go hunt down the legendary Pokemon which is really fun. They brought the Pokemon Go mechanic into this game. It adds a nice variety to the battles. Now you have traditional battle since now you fight against trainers all over the world & not just inside gym & you also have the Pokemon Go style to catch Pokemon. It actually feels refreshing so you don't get tiresome of the same thing over & over. Pokemon games were known for their repetitive level grind heavy game play. So this is a refresher.

That's where the hate for this game is coming from is cause of the Pokemon Go mechanic being added. But Pokemon Go is extremely popular with 750 million downloads & a user base of 65 million people consecutively each month. If you're a fan of Pokemon I employ you to give it a chance. You'll find that it is actually very enjoyable & quite addictive to catch them all.
