  • Summary: Unlike the last few entries, Picross S 5 does not add any new modes from S4, and just focuses on the puzzles. The main additions this time are an overall timer that tells you how long it took to complete every puzzle, and a high-contrast color option for Color Picross. [GameSpot]

Picross S5 is another solid entry in Jupiter’s Picross series. With 485 puzzles across a few different styles, it’s filled with a lot of great, engaging content. It still has the same old issues, chiefly no touch screen controls, but the novelty of the co-op and the new tweaks like higher contrast colors are good accessibility inclusions. Whether you’re a first-time Picross player or a weary nonogram veteran, Picross S5 is great.

To be frank, there’s absolutely nothing unique to separate Picross S5 from its numerous predecessors; this is the same number counting game it’s always been. Even so, it’s clear that Jupiter Corporation has gotten its concept down to a science, and the addictive nature of these puzzles has never been more alluring. We’d give this a recommendation if you’re looking for a solid new puzzle game for your Switch, as the puzzle count and quality of the experience ensure that this is just about the best bang for your buck possible. That being said, those of you who have picked up one or two of the previous releases and have yet to finish them may want to hold off, as you’re not missing out on anything but even more puzzles to solve. Either way, it’s tough to go wrong here, and we’re sure the exact same sentiment will likely still hold true when Picross S6 inevitably lands in another few months.

Picross S5 is definitely a case of ‘more of the same’ which for fans will be music to their ears. What it lacks in ambition it makes up for with hundreds more addictive puzzles ideal for passing those winter hours away.

Picross S5 is a simple title much like its predecessors. However, there is a certain charm to the experience, allowing for a relaxing journey for new and experienced players alike. Different modes and help settings offer the possibility to tailor the game to personal enjoyment, making this another great entry that can satisfy puzzle-lovers.

As expected, Picross S5 is just a new batch of brand new puzzles (a total of 485). There is nothing really new, except a feature to see how much time you spent to complete each mode, but fans of this puzzle franchise won't care, they just need more grids. And they'll have them.

Picross is my favorite type of puzzles, so I am pleased with what I got. There are four different types of Picross, the standard Picross, Mega Picross with numbers that stretch over two rows/columns, Clip Picross with a lot of small puzzles that result in one huge Image, and Color Picross, the same but with three different colors. It might be a bit expensive for Picross Newcomers at 10€, but its definitely worth it if you see it on sale. Expand
