A game that every Switch owner should own. [Issue #33 – May/June 2018, p. 71]

Like the gentle flapping of an owl, Owlboy arrives on the Nintendo Switch promising to make us fly. Soar across the skies of his world to discover an enigmatic story full of emotions, together with memorable travel companions, impressive graphics and a soundtrack that, despite its small faults, will make you feel free.

One of the greatest indie game of the last few years has arrived to consoles. A great Metroidvania with awesome art and pretty good game mechanics. A very intense story with all types of incredible moments.

Owlboy is amazing thanks to it's fantastic set of characters and an incredible world to explore. The game has beautiful pixel art and great dialogue that will make you laugh out loud. The only downside is that the game crashes for no reason sometimes.

Owlboy is a magnificent piece of work with marvelous visual details, an amazing soundtrack and a very well-crafted plot. Its lifespan may not be the most expected for a game of its kind but Owlboy offers very good arguments on every other component that make this game stand out for the passion its creators put into it. Yet another gem arrives in the Nintendo Switch catalog.

Ten years in the making and certainly worth the wait, Owlboy is a fantastic platform/adventure game that succeeds in making you care about the game's characters through a great tale of an underdog (or owl) wanting to prove himself to those who doubted him. Looking for a new indie game? You'd struggle to find one as well designed as this!

Owlboy tells a story of failure, redemption, and heroism with an excellent art style to prop up an addictive and creative platformer that continually throws new game mechanics at you to keep things fresh. It’s hard to put down once you get started.

An insuppressibly charming journey of sky-high exploration and Metroid-style underground dungeon crawling, Owlboy offers a whole lot of heart alongside its innovative takes on tried-and-true adventure game staples.

The Switch port of Owlboy is mostly perfect. The controls translate well and it looks drop dead gorgeous both docked and in handheld mode.

A superbly crafted 2D adventure that is a near perfect blend of new and old influences, in terms of both gameplay and the stunning visuals and music.

Owlboy is consistently charming and surprising, and when its final act doubles down on every front, it's bittersweet to see it end.

As it was in 2016, D-Pad Studios has crafted an excellent adventure that should be played by all. If you’ve already experienced Owlboy on another platform, there’s nothing here you haven’t yet seen. But if, like me, you never did play it before – now is the perfect time to experience one of the best indie adventures in modern memory.

Owlboy is a three-pronged attack of success: the gameplay is tight, satisfying, and remains fresh throughout; the game’s world is visually stunning thanks to some truly masterful pixel art; and you’ll find yourself really caring about the cast of characters and the world surrounding them thanks to a compelling storyline and background lore. The game could be improved with the inclusion of map to aid exploration, but when that is the only real thing we can pick at as a negative point it is clear that we’re on to a winner.

Owlboy on the Switch is adorable, cranky and a must have for all fans of the genre.

Owlboy arrives on Nintendo Switch (and PS4 y Xbox One) retaining all its charm and beautiful pixel art that make it an indie hit in 2016. It's a nice adventure that shines in its characters and writing, but if fells short in playing time, collectibles and use of the world. At least, you can now enjoy this little gem anywhere.

Owlboy is a game with quality artistic style and music that leaves the ideal mood for fun. In addition to good controls with a quick response, the game makes sure to vary the gameplay.

Imaginative, beautiful and varied. Owlboy is one of the most outstanding 2-D adventures today, despite the small bugs of the Switch version.

An old school game that manages to do almost everything well being a living homage to some gaming classic while still retaining its own and unique flavour.

When that patch comes, Owlboy is absolutely worth checking out, even if just for the pretty artwork and enjoyable story. Fortunately on top of that, the gameplay is also sound, delivering a nice puzzle platforming experience with a wealth of variety and distinctive elements. That being said, the Switch version is rough around the edges right now. It’s still possible to play through and enjoy, but it might be worth holding out for the patch (or even the physical version in May).

The Switch version of Owlboy is as good as the PC one, which means that we're in presence of a quasi-masterpiece: the ingredients are a touching story, a varied and funny gameplay and an outstanding presentation. If only it were a little shorter... it didn't have to reuse puzzles and ideas.

If you called Owlboy a piece of art, I would nod my head and agree wholeheartedly. This game, in visuals alone, is a masterful achievement. For those breath-taking visuals to be matched by equally beautiful characters and unique gameplay moments just elevates it even further. The beginning of the game is a bit too slow, and sometimes the gameplay was merely okay, but those are minor blemishes on a video game experience that is absolutely worth your time, and definitely worth the decade that it took to bring it to life.

Too bad that the conversion for Switch brings some problems, as a scheme of commands not always intuitive and annoying crashes that could damage the enjoyment of the experience.

Owlboy has a beautiful adventure with a good story, and while the game is short and not perfect in terms of gameplay, it has the ability to leave you with plenty of memories. Owlboy is not for everyone though.

9 years in development and expectations were high when Owlboy came out; and it didn’t disappoint. While gameplay is very classic and simple and story doesn’t have lots to say, visuals and music are where the game really shines. Easily one of the best platformers of the year, if not ever.

Owlboy is impressive if anything for its amazing visuals and animation. The gameplay gets by thanks to it being competent enough, but won't really inspire anyone. This is a pretty straightforward 2D action-adventure game that does a bit more heart than the average. Do not expect much replay value since it seems the developers poured their heart and soul into the main story and could not spare much more to have side content or any diversions to mix up the action. Also, do not go in expecting a metroidvania, because it is not.
