    Owlboy sets a new standard. It’s a gorgeously crafted adventure that’s jam packed with detail, endearing characters and a memorable heart warming story. Rarely do we see platformers donning such care and attention to detail, further upheld by fluid well rounded gameplay that doesn’t let go once it captivates you. Owlboy is a must have.

    Despite an unsatisfying final act, Owlboy is an enchanting and dazzling adventure. The heartfelt tale will tug at your heartstrings, while the solid gameplay will make you want to see Otus' journey to its conclusion.

    Owlboy is obviously a labor of love, and not some cold and calculated syndicate product. Altogether, it would have needed some outside help to do doctoring, especially to the latter half of the game. In the end, Owlboy is true to its inspiration: a retro-platformer both in good and in bad. It’s a shame that it couldn’t grow beyond that.

    Owlboy is a game I’ve heard many good things about and to say I was looking forward to playing it on the Xbox One would be a massiveOwlboy is a game I’ve heard many good things about and to say I was looking forward to playing it on the Xbox One would be a massive understatement. Thankfully the game was worth the wait and in my opinion it’s one of the best 2D adventures I’ve ever played which is no small feat because there have been many 2D adventures I’ve enjoyed over the years. If you love games with charming stories then Owlboy does more than enough to satisfy that urge. The story is both fun and interesting throughout and in the end you get really attached to the characters that are present in the story. The characters on the whole are wonderful and you can tell that a lot of thought and effort has gone into them because each character feels important and plays an important part throughout your time with the game. The gameplay that accompanies the fantastic story and characters has been done to perfection. Everything about the gameplay feels tight and responsive and each different mechanic has been done that well that it adds something different to the gameplay. I was also very impressed with the level design in the game and the amount of variety that’s present in each level makes exploring a very fun and enjoyable experience. There is also a number of different puzzles for you to get to grips with in the different levels and thankfully the clever design of these puzzles meant that I hardly ever got frustrated, which is a bonus. I must admit that I was surprised by how much content the game has and it will keep you satisfied for a number of hours and the best thing is that you never seem to get bored throughout your time with the game. Unfortunately though once you complete the game you’re highly unlikely to return back to it and that’s a shame because the content that’s on offer is absolutely amazing. The presentation that accompanies the fantastic content is also amazing and I loved everything about this aspect of the game. Visually the game can look really beautiful at times and when you combine that with the very charming sound design it ends up bringing the gameplay and story alive at every turn. At the end of the day Owlboy is one of them rare games where I don’t really have a gripe with anything that they offer up and I must admit that Owlboy is one of the most enjoyable game’s I’ve played so far this year. In fact as far as the 2D adventure genre goes it may very well be my most favourite game I’ve ever played in the genre and to say that’s an impressive feat would be a massive understatement to say the least. Without a doubt Owlboy gets a massive recommendation from me and if you’re a fan of this specific genre then the game is an absolute must buy.… Expand

    but you set out to prove yourself with your best friend geddy and take down the pirates that are out here tryna collect some relics and use their power for evil
    Owlboy is a very unique 12 hour long platformer like game wit ha ridiculous amount of heart put into it.
    There is so much charm and care put into the pixilated annimations, in the characters you meet throughout your journey both in their personality and their diolog…
    this is basically a platformer where youll be flying and shooting instead of jumping..
    at first you have your best friend geddy with you..
    you can carry him and use him to help you shoot through obstacles and shoot enemies in your way as you make it through this games different levels, doing small puzzles and throwing switches, collecting as many coins as you can to spend on upgrades..
    and as the game goes on youll unlock more characters to handle other obstacles, and you can switch through these characters freely,
    The level design here starts out really charming but for me I liked the game less and less as it went on..
    levels stopped feeling like a treat to get through and more like a chore…
    they just drag on forever..
    all of them containing multiple boss fights which are the most frustrating but most satisfying aspect of this game..
    regular enemies are challenging enough.. though there are fruits you can grab to refill your health.. in boss fights theres no fruit grabbing, you gotta beat them with the health that you have at that point… all of them taking multiple tries for me to defeat… some of them making me want to stop the game.. but at the same time fair enough to make me feel like im losing because of me.. its my fault,, I can get back in there and beat this boss and once I did it was a great feeling of relief getting to continue through the level or go onto the next…
    The charm of the characters and the challenge of the boss fights waiting for me is what really pulled me through this game as after about the 2nd level things started to feel like your pretty standard platforming levels… I felt the heart draining the deeper the game got and I feel it over stays its welcome a bit…
    my biggest issue with this game though is its current stability problems…
    the game crashed on me more than 5 times.. theres one spot towards the end where if you die in that spot the game crashes every time without fail, but the most heartbreaking crash was after a hard boss fight that I was on like try number 12, I finnaly beat the boss trophy pops and crash, I have to do it all over again..
    having beat them before beating them again was nothing.. but it was still annoying..
    Owlboy is worth pushing through its crashes and late game level design just for the heart put into its story characters and world…
    it’s a shame I stopped having fun playing the game.. but I never stopped enjoying it…
    I give Owlboy an 8/10    … Expand
