This was the second game by JoyMasher that i played, the first being Oniken. I enjoyed Oniken but wouldn't call it a mini masterpiece. This game i would certainly call a mini masterpiece. The aesthetic is gorgeous, and the overall map and gameplay mechanic totally solid. Glad i picked this despite my relatively lowish expectations. Expand

Amazing game! Lots to explore and combat! The final boss is super challenging. You’ll have to memorize his moves in order to beat him. But it’s al worth it and very satisfying! Overall great game.

Odallus may look like an NES game, but it plays and handles progression like contemporary titles, respecting the player’s time and offering numerous secrets in an exploration-based 2D world. I went into Odallus: The Dark Call looking for Castlevania and left with an engaging experience that pays tribute to both classic 8-bit titles and modern Metroidvania games.

For now, I’ll recommend Odallus to those itching for the atmosphere of early Castlevania games and those relishing a good dose of difficulty. More casual fans may want to look elsewhere.
