This one surprised me. At first I was underwhelmed, because in the beginning it's very limited gameplay-wise. But these levels are quite a bit larger and more challenging than the ones on the main path. Stick it out, and you'll be treated to some great level design on-par with the Castlevanias of old. Expand

Odallus may look like an NES game, but it plays and handles progression like contemporary titles, respecting the player’s time and offering numerous secrets in an exploration-based 2D world. I went into Odallus: The Dark Call looking for Castlevania and left with an engaging experience that pays tribute to both classic 8-bit titles and modern Metroidvania games.

For now, I’ll recommend Odallus to those itching for the atmosphere of early Castlevania games and those relishing a good dose of difficulty. More casual fans may want to look elsewhere.
