If you’ve been looking to get into Mutant Mudds or have been simply wanting a new retro platformer on Switch, there are few better options than Mutant Mudds Collection. With two already spectacular titles in Mutant Mudds Deluxe and Mutant Mudds Super Challenge, fans will spend hours plugging away at their immense (and rewarding) challenge. Throw in the solid Mudd Blocks, which is an out of the blue and pleasant surprise (and arguably better than 3DS puzzler Bomb Monkey), and not only is Collection a satisfying time to be had, it’s also a great value, to boot. Switch’s library is stuffed with great games, but don’t let this one pass you by. It’s easily up there with some of the best software on the system.

Mutant Mudds Collection gives Nintendo Switch owners the chance to own two fantastic platforming games in one handy, portable package, as well as a nice extra in the new puzzle game, Mudd Blocks. The difficulty of these games may well put a reasonable amount of players off - Mutant Mudds Super Challenge in particular is one nasty fiend – but the overall quality of the two original titles places this collection amongst the best within its genre that the eShop can offer. If you love platformers, and you don’t mind a hefty challenge, do yourself a favour and buy this game.

Two incredibly satisfying tests of gaming prowess with a quaint oddity on the side – what's not to love? [Issue #32 – March/April 2018, p. 18]

Mutant Mudds has seen ports to just about every console under the sun (with good reason), so I figured it’d only be a matter of time before it graced the Nintendo Switch. What I didn’t expect was to get Mutant Mudds, Mutant Mudds Super Challenge, and Mudd Blocks all in one convenient package. With the great gameplay of three games present and brand new leaderboards for each game, this is the ultimately collection for anyone interested in the Mudds franchise. The lack of stereoscopic 3D is the only blemish, but hardly enough to diminish an otherwise fantastic offering.

A tough, generously proportioned retro 2D platformer package - with a decent match-three puzzler thrown in as a bonus.

It’s a quality collection of games which combines fun and frustration in equal measure. The addition of Mudd Blocks is very welcome though not essential. If you love a good platform game, then this is a no-brainer and I can’t recommend it enough. If you are not so keen, this may be a little more frustrating than you’d like.

The level design is smart, making Max's jetpack skill fun. Furthermore, the superimposed layers manage to impress and offer the player something surprising.

The character moves slow and there is no run button which took some getting used to, but ultimately meshed well with the difficult and precise platforming required. The gameplay was excellent, was fantastic in hand-held mode, and it was great game to play in short spurts, knocking off a level or two on the bus, in the waiting room, or before bed. Overall, it was I great. I 100%’ed this baby and found doing that challenging yet not overwhelming, with the emphasis on execution rather than exploration, the former being more of my forte. I bought this game deeply discounted, and it was one of the greatest values I purchased for the Nintendo Switch. Expand

Not big on story, just thrusts you into addictively designed levels. Super Challenge gets quite difficult, building off the first game, and I didn't have the time to invest in mastering it. But at the price point, I felt I got my money's worth even just playing Mutant Mudds Deluxe. Expand

It's controls are also slightly unusual in that the "double jump" is a hover. The collection is made up of a deluxe version of the original game (Mutant Mudds Deluxe), a more challenging set of levels (Mutant Mudds Super Challenge) and a puzzle game (Mudd Blocks).

I 100% completed both of the platform games and booted Mudd Blocks to see, but it's not my kind of thing.

Mutant Mudds Deluxe is really good. It's made up of bite size levels and the difficulty ramps up as you go. There are also two "hidden" tougher levels within each level as well as a haunted version of each level (also more difficult as you can't shoot enemies). I really like when developers do things like the haunted levels because you get a lot of mileage for a smaller number of levels

The Mutant Mudds super challenge is still good, but not as good as the original. The levels are more expansive and a lot tougher. There isn't a ghost level set like the original. Instead, some of the levels are ghost levels. This took me ages to complete compared to the original. But the levels feel a bit unfairly tough, especially with the enemies that drop bombs. There are some sections where these bomb enemies are hard to predict when they're above you, so it takes many attempts to just muddle through.

As usual, the Switch is missing content compared to other platforms: the achievements / trophies.

Overall this is a good package.

A collection of three games, two platformers and a ‘Columns’ style puzzle game.

The two platformers aim and succeed at recapturing the old school style seen in the early 90’s, but aren’t actually very much fun and the puzzler is decent but there are plenty of better examples available.
